What are the differences between Apartheid and Untouchability???
If Untouchability is reintroduced, will the world ban India?? South Africa was impacted with serious bans when it was having Apartheid policy.
In my opinion, the Untouchability concept in India is worse than the Apartheid policy.

Untouchability was abolished in 1950 when the constitution came into being. South Africa banned Apartheid only recently.

Myla,
Untouchability is still prevalent in Indian Soceity..
In TN, there is the double tumbler system in few villages. Last year when a person from Dalit became a president, he was killed with 7 others in broad daylight. Every week, a dalit girl is raped in UP, which is ruled by Iron Lady Mayawathi.
Even among Dalits, there are people who claim to be superior and torture other people.

Apartheid in South Africa was different in the sense that it was a state organised discrimination.. To remind you USA was actively leading and participating the embargo effort in order to discourage the practices of the South African while there was a battle raging on the home turf with regards to civil rights movement..
Practising untouchability is a crime according to Indian Constitution.. SO in terms of International Law the government has all the tools in place to discourage the practice.. However it doesnt enforce the rule of law, just as in the case of dowry, sati or any other social crime..
We cant jump on the bandwagon and say emphatically that untouchability is abolished.. just because there is a paragraph in constitution.. The truth is that the paragraph exists in letter, not in spirit..

The Indian government is committed to the abolishing of untouchability.
