Hai friends,

This is my first thread at this site. My name is Clarissa Gopalan. My mother is from Europe and my dad is from India. We live in USA. This is my third trip to India. I came across this site a few days ago. Though I am 21 years old, there is a lot i have to learn about Indian habits. I am rather puzzled about Indians. They seem to magnify the small and insignificant differences between them. This is what i found at this site too. When people from so far away live happily together in my country why cant you Indians do that? Always blaming one another for problems often caused by one's own negligence.

Let me tell you folks about myself. My dad did his engineering out here in India in a university called IIT Delhi. He did his graduation studies and his Phd at UPEN. While working on his research project he met my Mom. She was doing research in his beloved University as a lecturer having just secured her doctorate degree. My mother was born an American citizen but her father was from Germany and her mother was from Hungary. So she is a pure European. Our family is very much different from most other families. We have a completely different opinion about god, about humans, about gender and about food.My mother has always been believing in God.But she seldom goes to church. There are many reasons. Her mother left catholic church because she felt that the catholic establishment was deviating from the true teachings established by the great saints of yore. She was not convinced by the protestant sects either. Her husband though born in a good christian family seldom thought about religion as he was too busy with his job and family. In any case my mother believed in the bible and in christ. My father is a hindu. He is in fact a vaishnava.I am now staying with his dad raghavan. My father and mother could not come here as they are busy. Every trip to India is like a journey into my dad's past. I learn something new about India every time. I am also aware about many details of india's past. Only a few years ago did i come to know that my father belonged to a caste called iyengar. I have witnessed many interesting traditions out here in India.I thought that these can be made into topics for debate and discussions.

Girl and boy interaction- One thing that i have never understood is why do girls and boys have such hesitation in interacting with each other. After all both of them are humans and is it wrong to feel attracted towards one another and explore each other?Out here in USA it is not like this. In fact parents pray that their children interact with the other sex because they fear that otherwise they might end up as homosexuals. So indians beware.dont supress the urges of the youth. In fact only then will marriages come out sucessfully. How can you be sure you will find marital happiness unless you actually find out how it is to be together?
Arranged marriage-Is it right?
Dress-I decided to try a saree once.I found it too uncomfortable for hot Indian weather.so should indian women wear sarees and churithar?
potu-Should women wear potu all the time.why do they wear it.Is it to look good or is it for religion?
Why vishnu wears namum and why shiva wears vebudi?
why do bramins wear punel?
why there are so many subcastes?,why dont they intermarry?
why caste exists?
why hindus dont eat onion and garlic on holy days?
Before i complete this thread i have some advice to give.My mother's brother is doing genetic research. He tells me that from dna analysis it is found that most indians share ancestors with people of other castes. They have common ancestors who might have lived in india not earlier than 8 thousand years ago.The indians are more similar to each other genetically than to any other people. All humans orginated in africa anyway.so does it matter, which community you are born in?.cant you just intermarry and be happy when you have already done that earlier?why should you fight about dravidian and aryan civilisation? There is more news.Dravidians are also caucasians.i dont find any difference between a brahmin and a non brahmin.my father ,a brahmin is darker than most people in chennai.so why fight about color?
