I was in Chennai recently and was watching a quiz program compered by a pretty lass on one of the Tamil cable channels (forgot which). The compere had this accented Tamil which I think is typical of their breed nowadays. For example, instead of asking a participant "neenga enna panninenga?", she was saying "neenga enna phanenga?" which is taken to be a glamorous way of speaking Tamil by todays youth. Also "moondru suzhi" Na's are freely converted to the softer "rendu suzhi" na's.

Has anybody else observed what I have?

  I quite agree with you. Why would they invite people, who can hardly speak clean Tamil, to be an annoucer or a product introducer or a specialty announcer. Many who were educated in Tamilnadu are not fit to speak Tamil properly. Fifty percent Tamil and fifty percent English. It is a disgrace to Tamil language.

  Chennai Thamizh is worse. Every Thamizh know that as Thamizh Language go north it's pronouncation is different along with it's way. That's now causing our youths by the Cinema. I hate that happening and by the way 'Neenga enna Pannininga' is not a good way to say. Guess ppl are using easy Thamizh in education which is another worse thing.

  Over here (singapore) for some tamils here it could be one whole of string of malay words ..i am not talking about a coversation between a tamil and a malay but between a tamil and a tamil.
  a lot of them say they are proud to be tamils blabla..but they do not show it..not only they mispronounce tamil interntionally, they consider it is a shame to speak it..they (a few that i have across)prefer and even die to learn a ching chong ching or a malay word..

  lol I know..for one thing i would wear vaeti and go to school:) but the place where i'm living is a foreign country where i have to stick to my cultures and i wish i could go to Thamizh School here and speak Thamizh lol. I know it's better to know other languages but sometime i guess it's a better thing to learn it ur native language. Well if we only have a country then i wouldn't be far away from it:( and living in Canada:(. I wish we get a country soon and live as Thamizh there atleast:(. Before our culture dissaperar:(

  Nice Thamilzh names. I wish all the 'Thamilzh Lovers' name their children with good Thamilzh names(or atleast more percentage of Thamilzh in naming). This is one way to extend the gratitude to Thamilzh Molzhi and protect the language.
  
  Fellow Tamils, please don't get fooled by the astrology,religion etc to name your kids. There are historical proofs that many achievers in the world don't carry astrology based names. Samples Rajaraj Cholan(ArulMolzhi),Kulothunga Cholan,Kamban. The famous writer Ilango Adigal who challenged Astrology and turned into a saint.
  
  
  Talking about the topic, I have seen many who mix other language words,stylish pronounciation,etc.
  I feel they fall into this crap for any of the following reasons:
  
  They they will be recognized as high-society
  By doing this they are modernazing and cope up with the changing world.
  The environment(eg.their parents)encourages them by not giving preference to good Tamil
  
  These people have slavery mentality,inferiority complex and lack of knowledge about prides of Thamilzh mozhi.

  Let us not forget that a rich language, based on strong grammar as Tamizh is, is very difficult to be used in everyday conversation. That is why *kochaith Thamizh* or colloquial Tamil evolved. Forget the city folks who are influenced by foreign languages. Go to the villages and hear what they speak!
  The same thing goes to English too. Go and talk pure English to the average American or Englsihman. Apart from your accent, they would be hardpressed to understand your pure English.
  If you ask some Thamizhan, *nIngaL enna seidhIrgal*, he will look askance at you as though you have come from some other planet. Each group of Tamilians has their own idyosyncratic distortion of pure Tamil words.
  Having sad that I still would like to see the great Tamil language neither mutilated nor murdered.

  pErAsiriyar that's not how I feel when I hear and see corrupted Thamizh in Thamizh Medias..I want to burn the newspapers and break the TV or the Tape. I asked a Main Thamizh Organization in Canada to fix the language on their newspapers as I haven't had any respond yet..sometime I wonder if those who claim to be saving Thamizh perhaps are doing it for $$!

  If one fifty perscent is pure Tamil and complete and the other 50% is pure English, then I can accept it.:-)
