Why TN lacks so much in Tourism Development?
We arent even getting 10% of the tourists from outside the country with after having rich historic places and temples.
Is it a total failure because of the Dravidian Govts? Even in South Kerala is doing great work on tourism.
What are the places that can be used as a tourist places?

IMHO, the Kanchipuram/Chennai area holds the most potential. Certainly there is a great deal to see there, and the sites are not very distant from each other.
I still have a tremendous respect for the sites located further inland, but the problem is that they are located far from each other. The Sri Meenakshi temple in Madurai is certainly impressive, but what is there nearby which would be 'touristy?'
Kanyakumari is and will always be a destination stop. No doubt about that. I just think that it wouldn't be a bad idea to clean the place up a little bit. It was cleaner about 20-30 years ago.

Tourism department is in very bad shape in Tamil Nadu, eventhoug we have got lot of tourist places like Mahapalipuram, Chennai, Kanchipuram,Trichy - Srirangam, Ooty, Kodaikanal, Pazhani, Vedanthaangal, Madurai, Ettayapuram, Panchalamkuruchi, Kutraalam, Thiruchendur, Suseendhiram, Padmanabapuram, Kanyakumari....etc.
Why these places are not attracts the tourists?
There are so many reasons.
Tourist places are not maintained properly by the government, tourist department and the respective municipalities.
Connecting roads are in bad shape.
No public toilets (or) bad condition of public toilets.
Water problems.
Hihg accommodation charges.
Auto / Taxi hi-fi rates.
Beggers and touts.
Less Public awarenes.
Less advertisements.
...etc.
We have lot of tourist attraction places, but because of its bad conditions it is not attracting the public towards it.
Our Government, Tourism department and the respective Municipalities must wake up fast to attract the touristers.

Saravanan,
Very true. I feel miserable thinking of our Country and the state. Why nobody is giving any thrust to tourism? when countries like Malaysia making use of Temples/Bharatanatyam to attract tourists?
Leave alone auto/Taxi they are cheaper compared to most countries it is the unfriendlyness that irritatess What kind of airports we have?
Chennai airpotrt supposed to be 3rd biggest and handles 10% of Indian air Traffic, It would not compare with any of the average Asian Airports such as jakarta or manila

Police, tourism dept officials, archaeological preservers all are interested in making money and smuggling out Tamil heritage.
autorickshawas mostly running by benami names of police ownerships are another big problem for tourist who get cheated and harassed. Can you file a complaint against autorickshaw in Tamilnadu? you cannot because all those autos belongs to police and they inturn give it for hire to drivers . Cheating , fraudism would never promote tourism in Tamilnadu. Try getting down at railways station and you will know what Tamilnadu is? Talking tourism is big thing. A tourist is also raped by police and he/she never been helped specially if they are people from other states.

There are several reasons for the lack of good quality tourism in TN. The govt is more interested in bribery, corruption etc than in promoting any industry. Take a look at the web page www.tamilnadutourism.com and compare it to www.salzburg.com and you will see the world of difference in the professionalism. TN simply does not get it about what it takes to promote any industry. It has improved despite its politicians. Anyone can make the tourism better, all it takes is willpower, ethics, professionalism and someone who will say, "If you improve the tourism industry by 10% every year in the next 3 years, I will give you this industry portfolio". But no one will do that, will they?

On marina beach on average 100,000 people visit every week , but not even a single public toilet... what tourism we can think about, when tourism minster do not even know the basic need of tourist.... fuccccc tourism...and make money by lootin tourists

1) overpopulation + depleting natural resources + bad governance = poverty.
2) poverty = hunger + anger = degradation of human character = cheating, corruption and the loop connects again to bad governance.
first control overpopulation. chennai has already crossed 1 billion population. its not only due 2 influx of ppl from interior tn. the main reason is conservative attitude in s*ex education. no need 4 conservativeness and hypocricy in talking abt s*ex when ppl know 2 breed as fast as rats. infrastructure will automatically improve with lesser stress on the whole system.

How are we going stop overpopulation? Make them pay for it. India can't act like China where people can't have more than one child. What we can do is to prevent them from using public facilities like schools, jobs, hospitals etc.
Whatever we do, unless we control our population, our infrastructure can't cope up. That in turn will affect our tourism.
Also, cleanliness should be taught. Public toilets should be built and maintained well (unlike the ones in bus stands - they stinks).
Above all, we should have a good hearted person looking after the ministry.

indira gandhi made birth control compulsary and lost the next gen elections. population control measures r extremely difficult 2 implement in a democracy. no matter what kind of policies the govt. brings in 2 chk over-population, ppl continue 2 reproduce as they hv little forms of entertainment. only education can make any difference. or india needs a bold politician who will make tubectomy compulsory after birth of second child.

So you mean americans have less sex, or europeans have less. I have seen them all the time indulged in sex for 6 or 10hours a days. where as indians finish in 3 minutes.... so entertainment cannot be cause of population.

Tourism in Tamilnadu will improve after 75 years. when people will know how to accept tourism and newer culture.
