can anybody tell me the history of the construction of Thanjavur Periya kovil. How Prahadeeswarar was taken inside the 'garpagriham'when the entrance is so small?Anybody knows the stroy of 'Karuvur thevar'?

  Will look for references. I read in a theepaavaLi malar an article about the construction of the temple. It mentioned a village 20 km from the temple with the name "yaanai....", where the elephants used for the construction were stabled. Also it mentioned another village where the ramp used to drag the stones up the gopuram started from.
  
  One would guess the temple was built around the main deity. But that is my guess.

  Go through Internet with the search Engines under the Titles "Thanjavur", "Chola", "RajaRaja", & you will come across many web sites which will provide much informations on Thanjvur Temples.
  
  Other than these there are many many books both in English and Tamil available on Thanjavur Temple.
  
  You can as an example try the beautiful book by Mr Thevamani Rafell on Tamilnadu Temples available in both in Tamil & English versions at "Then India Saiva Siddhantha Nool Pathippaham" in Madras priced at Rs 900/=

  He is one of th leading disciples of the great Siddhar BOgar
  Quite an interesting guy.
  He is also classified among the important Sivanadiyaars.

  They have ruked Java, Sumatra Nicobar islands and Srilanka.
  Rajedhra Cholan, was governing entire south india, and Kalinga. He had waged war against Kings of North on his way to bring Ganges to "Gangai Konda Chozha Puram". The inscriptions for this, seems to be present in Lingaraja temple in Orissa.
  
  Samanta Sena, a Chola cheif, settled in Bengal after the defeat of Mahi Pala of bengal, and gave a start to Sena Dynasty.
  
  This proves, Chozas has conqured north.
  
  If is a proved history that Rajendhra Cholan - I, has inflicted defeast on Srivijaya Samrajya and one of his sucessor, Vira Rajendhra Cholan, too.
