Does India still need to sponser Haj ?

India is a poor country with the largest share of malnourished , illiterate people . Rather than addressing these problems why is the GoI wastefully spending Tax-Payers'-Money in sponsoring Haj ? This also renders secularism a misnomer for India because Kashiyatra and trips to Vatican , Amritsar etc are not funded .

//visit kasi,rameshwaram once in their life time . //
Better don't visit Kasi. The original Shiva temple there lies in ruin and over that an ugly mosque struts!
Its painful to see this site. The northies bother about ayothiya. But what about our Kasi??
The First and foremost of the 18 Tamil siddhars, Nandidevar is said to have attained samadhi and the original Visvanathar Aalayam (over which now the mosque crudely stands, unlike ayothiya, this can be seen by plain eyes) was built over his samadhi.
Hence, kasi was venerated by Tamils over the millenia. Now, even though ample evidence is there that this mosque was built over that temple (even now the land records of that place are of the Temple and still the temple ruins are seen from behind the mosque), no north indian hindu is ready to reclaim this Holy place of Tamils.

This is the picture of that place. See the temple remains below the dome:

The great siddhar like nandidevar have given us valuable knowledge on various topics to us and it is sad to note the concern authorities have done nothing to preserve the original samadhi site of our great siddhar Nandidevar.

My opinion is that no secular country should provide any subsidy for any pilgrimage.
