Sathuragiri vel,
I agree...there seems to have been a sort of flexible approach to castes during the P.S times...
only the Saivite-Vaishnavite divide seems to have been great at that point(seeing the Azhvarkadiyan-vandiyadevan word-duels)...
all my friends seem to have a sort of blind faith in PS...see a friend's site here:

"flexible approach to castes during the P.S times"
Flexible approach ? - > we had jati very well entrenched by even the Camkam times but did not become the four fold Varna even till today.
So when we talk about "Caste" within a Tamil perspective we are stil talking about Jatis which is nothing but tribal affliations, clans and extended families.... some concentrating on exclusive job types as a survival mechanism in an ever incresaing feudal regimes.

1000 years back....a marvellous rewriting pf history., succeeded as a story burying the truths, like .. rajarajan = aurangazeib., killing A.K, later madhuranthakan., sending his own son away (kadaram) while building the big temple, andabove all this killing more than 1000 sculptors concerned with temple, later wolfily involving in chalukiyas regime ........HIS OWN SON RAJENDRA would have hated him., sothat the 300 yr old traditional capital was changed. i have some history

Raveen,
Do you have any information on this Tanjore Kallar caste, all that I know they are minority, only agriculture is the occupation, and they have surname's, marriages are not allowed with the same surnames. It could be nice if I know something about the origin of my caste..., my surname is Kandiar.

Hi ilamkavi,
Well, when we read PS, we all get great impression on Rajarajan. But when we read Nadhipurathu nayaki(its like a continuation of PS), the impression we had declines.I also started to think like u abt rajarajan.I guess, it might be possible.

Who are Brahmin Sozhiyar caste who currently ( for the past 175 years atleast) populate the seven villages crisscrossed in and around Tiruchi ( example : Puthur Agraharam near Woraiyur, Tiruchi and Amoor near Gunaseelam, near Tiruchi ) They profess themselves to be Iyengars ( Vaishnavites ). Just wanted to know their history , origins etc .. Will really appreciate any info.
