If Tamil is such a beautiful language why don’t we have many Carnatic songs being created in Tamil.

Does Tamil language have some defect which prevents people from writing Carnatic songs?

Nothing prevents non brahmins carnatic
musicians (ha ha ha - isn't that an oxymoron)
to sing only in tamil and patrons like you
boycotting brahmin carnatic musicians. Leave
Sudha's concert to brahmins.

Sri Hari is right. The reason why we have Carnatic songs in Telugu is because when it became popular Telugu was the language of choice of the rulers.
But the fact that most songs have remained Telugu actually reflects our cultural mindset of wanting keep thing as they are.
Art and culture will grow as the governments spend money on it as well as people enjoy it.
So you have popular culture and the elite sanctioned culture.
Popular culture of India (not just TN) is based on film songs, gazals etc.
Carnatic music is become dated and is restricted. Unless en effort is made to rejuvenate it and make it popular again it will slowly wither away.

I consider Sanskrit as mantra - mozhi (language)
Tamil as bhakthi mozhi
telugu as isai mozhi

I am sure everyone agrees that music in any language is beautiful. But if one can understand the meaning of lyrics the appreciation for the song increases by 50%. I would definitely enjoy ‘Oli padi tha kaninai va va va’ than ‘brocheava evarura’

The correct way of popularising Tamil devotional/classical songs would be to compose more songs in Tamil. Not by asking artists not to sing Telugu songs.
By the way, Karunanidhi, who ordered that temple archanas be chanted only in Tamil, at the first instance he should convert his Samskrit name from Karunanidhi to Iyarkkaikadal.
People who crib about Telugu classical songs and those who try to disrupt Tyagaraja Aradhana, how much they know music ?
I am for more Tamil songs but not by degrading/banning Telugu classicals.

ISAI TAMIL IS NOT DRY POND EVEN DEVOTIONAL PART OF IT. WHAT IS LACKING IS THE WILL TO SING .REMEMBER MOST BRAHMINS IN CARNATIC MUSIC DEVELOPMENT WERE NON TAMIL BRAHMINS THE TELUGUS THE MARATHIS THE KANNADIGAS OF TANJORE BELT.PRIOR TO THEIR ADVENT THE ENTIRE DEVOTIONAL MUSIC WAS IN TAMIL PANN.SEE THE PRABHANDHAMS TIRUMURAIS.THIS ONLY SHOWS THE TAMIL BRAHMINS WERE EVEN SIDELINED DURING NAYAKS VIJAYANAGAR &SERFOJI REGIME.DEFINITELY THE TAMIL RENDITIONS ARE FAR SUPERIOR AND EVEN TODAY VAISHNAVA & SIVA TEMPLES ARE FULL OF IT GALORE.THE MUSICIANS SHOULD RESPECT & REVIVE THE SAME.IT IS COMMON FOR MUSICIANS TO PUT FORTH THE ARGUMENT THAT SONGS DONT NEED LANGUAGE & ADVANCE THE INTEREST OF KANNADA TELUGU IN TAMIL LAND.IT IS UNCOMMON FOR A KANNADA &TELUGU SINGER TO INCORPORATE TAMIL RENDITION INTO THEIR CUTCHERY.HOWEVER TAMIL MUSICIANS GALORE WITH TELUGU THOUGH WITHOUT KNOWING THE MEANING.EVEN THE OTHER TAMILS SHOULD START DEVOTIONAL CUTCHERY IN PURE TAMIL DEVOTIONA OF ALWAR & NAYANMAR RENDITION.

Get out Anti Thamizh! We and I don't give a dam for Karnatic Songs or to Karnatic Music and plz zip ur mouth of talking about that. Already Thamizh ppl don't know what kind of music they are learning in their School i mean lot of the ppl don't know and they just learn it because the teachers who teach it don't even know that!! We have songs and music in Thamizh and it's consider to be good and have u ever heard them? Do u know the different between Karnatic and Thamizh music and we don't give a dam for Karnatic and i'm not being as racist but that's the truth. I would look forward to that Thamizh get in touch with their own music rather than a foreigner one's. I blame the Cinemas and ppl and school who use Karnatic Music and Songs! Why do u need to to go to someone else's home when u have a home where u can live happily?! Because Morons with no head and brains just do that because they dont' know a dam about it and because of the community and leaders who are in power!

it is easy to sing the telugu songs for the carnatic singers since they were written music notes and raga by teh peots and the writers. but in tamil they have to write the notes and raga for themselves. are there any composors or the singers have time to write them if so we will here the tamis songs or thevarams

varny:
There are lots and lots of Tamil songs for which the musical notes are available, either written by the original composer or musicians at a later time. The Telugu kritis of the Trinity are immortalized by sustained efforts of so many musicians and have been propagated by the disciple lineages. That is why they are popular.
Even now the songs of Gopalakrihsna Bharathy, Oothukkadu venkatasubbaiyer, Arunachala kavirayar, Marimutha Pillai, Muthu Thandavar (the latter three are known as the Tamil Trinity who preceded the other Trinity, namely Thyagaraja,
Shyama Shastry, and Muthuswami Dikshitar) are very popular in Carnatic concerts including Thamizh Isai vizhA. As for the Thevaram, Tiruvacagam and other religious Thamizh works, these were tuned to traditional Thamizh paNs which can be retuned in the Carnatic music style. The Thamizh Isai sangam has to sponsor such retuning efforts.

Using four-letter words should be prohibited in this forum. *dam* is a three letter word but that indicates a reservoir to hold water and not what is implied in the post by mavalankiLLi

Very few devaram and thiruvasamgam songs are being sung in carnatic concerts. When a kid starts learning carnatic music, they start with Telugu or Sanskrit varnams. In any carnatic music learner’s book, there is not a single Tamil song. Tamil in music has a long way to go.
