Oh godess whom i worship you are there in every women as mother.
In general in india women as mothers were adored and respected.the sons have seldom let down their mothers.have they shown same degree of respect to their wives?

Kovalan had such a lovely and affectionate wife called kannagi.why did he go to Madhavi?But the whole tamil society adores a faithful wife.why werent husbands expected to be equally faithfull?

Dowry system exists in villages even today.

Female infanticide exists in dharmapuri district

Women are not part of the village panchayat

Unlike neighbouring kerala men inherited property of ancestors in ancient tamil nadu.

Even among nayanmars the women are a minority among the large body of saints

Tiruvalluvar's wife vasuki is described to be well treated by him.But he let her do all the house work.and he never advocates women education in his kural!!!!!!

All communities of tamil nadu have treated the women badly ,even the illiterate people who quite often being adicted to liqour have been involved in wife beating and other form of tortures during intoxication.brahmins also placed severe rules on their women.a few centuries ago,a brahmin was excommunicated for teaching sanskrit to his wife.devadasis were exploited by the brahmins.in the villages young girls used to be pledged to amman even by low caste societies.these women were then sexually exploited.

even in amman koils,the pujari is a man.

there is not many references in sangam literature for women being head of any institution.

the custom of taali is discriminatory.why should only women wear taalis.



On the other hand madurai can boast on having one female ruler.

  you are 50% correct man. but you have not bring some other important factors about women in tamil nadu. they are given below.
  1. still women children are thrown in the dust bins once they coem to this world.( it is very common in salem,dharmapuri distrcits)
  2. women are not at all given importance in any village activities.
  3. still women are treated as a house hold worker in many educated families.
  4 what ever education, status, still women are the one who are compelled to cook in the houses of tamil nadu.
  5. dowry harresement is a common phenomenon in tamil nadu

  u can't clap with one hand. if there is a problem there must b problems on both sides. as to women, i think that since it is a woman who rises her sons & shapes their ideals in a gr8 way. no matter how hard the society's rules may be, if a woman chooses to raise her sons with the idea that both men and women are equal then most problems in families and societies would not arise. a man learns to accept a woman as an equal. so its not just men 2 b blamed all the time 4 women's lack of position in the society.
