What is the origin of Shaivism? Why is it that even kashmiri pandits follow shaivism?
What is the major difference between Shaivism and vaishnavism? My folks say Shaivism delves more deeply into philosophy?
Can anyone shed any light on this?

www.hamsa.org Guess people like to believe what they like to believe. The fact that nothing can be proved leaves space for speculation and that feeds our imagination and makes life so interesting. Most religions say that we might be living in end of days. So we might live to see how the story ends !

Yes it is, for there was a seal on Lord Shiva found in the Dravidian Mohenjo Daro Indus Civilisation. Moreover, "Shiva" means red-one, a term to explain fair. The Thirumurai Hyms give such descriptions. Shiva was also not mentioned in the Vedas ( not to be confused with Rudra). Shiva was also the preceedor of the First Tamil Sangam, therefore, showing that he has been ardently claimed as a traditional Godhead by the Tamils. The Form of the Lingam is also basic, indicating its primitiveness. The Tamil Civilastions, being older than the Aryan ones, naturally adopt this symbol, to this very day
