I would advocate
I would advocate Solaris. A really good movie which questions the basis of human existence and its ability to comprehend extra-terrestrial life. George Clooney has given wonderful performance. Syrian is also good. Here again George Clooney has acted very well.
By the way , I have started a forum dedicated to just the four southern states of India. You can discuss everything there , from spirituality to music to films to Pre-History. You can access it at www.dravidanadu.com . I would also like some help in developing it and loooking for some moderators. If anybody is interested , please let me know.

Persepolis (French) : I don't remember the last time a cartoon left me so heavy at the heart. Persepolis, mostly drawn in monochrome, is the autobiographic account of an Iranian girl, as she grows in the one of the most tumultous periods of their country's history - that of the revolution and subsequent war with Iraq. Being sad and funny at the same time, the movie is statement against tyranny and yet stops short of being sententious. It works on many levels - as a story about a girl's longing for freedom, as a peek into the lives of ordinary Iranians and as a reminder of oppression in all its forms around us. A very big
to Marjane Satrapi for adapting her graphic novel into a movie.
Please do youself a favour and watch it.
"Why do we need filmmaking equipment?"
"Because, Marcel, my sweet, we're going to make a film. Just for the Nazis."

I watched it right after it was nominated by the academy. It deserved better than the film that won eventually, Ratatouille. That's another fine film and I loved it. (in spite of the aversion to major animation studios)

I liked Ratatouille too, but this one was way above. What it lacked in sophistication, it more than compromised by way of narration, characterisation (the grandma was the best, IMO) and dialogues. Ippo novel thedum padalathil ullen.

Oh yes, I personally think the lack of sophistication personifies the theme of the film.
