Kannadhasan brought the works of legendary authors to the ordinary man by simplifying them.
From Kamban to Bharathiyar; from Thirukural to Paasuram, he wrote their work in simple Tamil, which otherwise may have been lost to ordinary people.
This song "Thookam un kangalai thazhuvattume" was inspired by none other than Shakespeare!
In Romeo & Juliet, Shakespeare writes, "Sleep dwell upon thine eyes, peace in thy breast."
And our poet laureate interprets it to Tamil as
தூக்கம் உன் கண்களை தழுவட்டுமே
அமைதி உன் நெஞ்சில் நிலவட்டுமே
அந்தத் தூக்கமும் அமைதியும் நானானால்
உன்னை தொடர்ந்திருப்பேன் என்றும் துணையிருப்பேன்
