From Bhakta Jayadeva( Telugu), a composition from Jayadeva's Ashtapathi.
Yaramita vanamali.....

This composition has been used in another movie. I will post it later.
Raj, yes I too think this needs a separate thread. Good start, btw..
Good idea and a good starting song Raj! :) I know another version of this song from a 1980s movie, but will wait till you post your next pick.
From Gaanam(malayaLam) (1982)
Adri Sutavara by Swati TirunaL in Kalyani:

Thanks RD and RR ! :)
I will cover a few composers before I repeat !
RD: I have a pretty good guess about the version you have in mind and the movie! :)
Good one Raj! This one has Balamuralikrishna, Yesudas and Susheela singing the Swaathi Thirunal krithi... GAANAM was a great movie with a radical social theme. The star cast included Lakshmi (Tamil), Ambareesh (Kannada), Poornima (Mallu/Tamil), and the movie was directed by engineer turned poet/musician/story writer/artist and movie maker Sreekumaran Thampi (Mallu). It had several of the traditional classical compositions as well as some pleasing raaga-based melodies composed by Dakshinamoorthy Swamy. I may be tempted to post "yaaramitaa..." here if you don't post it soon! :)
Yaramita Vanamalina from Gaanam

RD: Happy now? :)
One of my favorites.. just because of the rendition. BMK sir :notworthy: Note that he doesn't sound like a carnatic singer at all in this song. I think it all comes so naturally for him.
RD: I forgot about the movie plot completely (I think I watched only half the movie). Can you brief us on the background to this song..
RR and RD
Here is one sanskrit song from the film Ranadheera Kantheerava 1960 film.
Part of geeta govindam have taken for a dance sequence in this film. sung by PBS and Komala AP.
Melody Music is by G K Venkatesh.
Directed by Shri N C Rajan
Watch the song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3zd9EqFr6I
Thank you Sudarshan. PBS sounds so mellifluous. Haven't heard the song or seen the movie before!
RR: It was a long time ago that I saw the movie! Can't remember the exact situation of this song. I have the movie on a VHS tape in some box somewhere; will look for it. In Gaanam, several of the traditional classical compositions were used for regular scenes too. I will post a link to a Youtube collection of most (if not all) songs from the movie on the Malayalam Film Music thread. It is a great collection.
From Morning Raga(English?) (2004)
Maathe Malaya Dhwaja Pandya Sanjathe.....(in Khamas)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiAS8-JyYHw
This is a composition of Harikesanallur Muthaiya Bhagavathar not commonly sung in concerts.
Good song Raj. I don't remember hearing this when watching the movie online. Morning Raga is mostly in English with a little bit of Telugu in it. Shabana Azmi played a major role, and Mani Sharma did the music/orchestration. I really liked the upbeat recital of "thaayE yashOdha..." in the movie.
Now I remember! The movie is still available on Youtube.
rajraj nga.....have not heard any of these songs.....but i am enjoying each & every one of them.....thank u.
Here is one more sanskrit song from the Kannada film Bhagya jyothi 1975.

From Hamsa Geete (Kannada)(1975)
Himadri Sudhe Pahimam...... (in KalyaNi)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=argPFug43Oc
RR: They celebrate Radha KalyaNam in Alangudi,Mayavaram and other places in Tanjore and sing Krishna Leela Tharangini and other KaNNan/Krishna songs. Unfortunately the video clips do not list the compositions. They also celebrate 'Tharangam Festival' in Varahur ( between Tanjore and Trichy) and sing tharangams. If you are in hurry you have to listen to all those clips to find Alokaye. :)
From Vinayaka Chavithi (Telugu)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYvyrtL6hO0
The song starts with a slokam on Ganapati that is not part of the composition 'vatapi.....'.
There was a time when carnatic concerts began with this composition. That has changed now! :)
The raga is Hamsadhwani.

People sing this Ashtapathi in different ragas. This rendition sounds like Dwijavanti or variation! :)
Yes it's indeed Jaijaivanti/Dwijavanthi based. Very conspicuous in this line "rOchayatu lOchana chakOram priyE"..
Meaning here: http://www.sangeetasudha.org/jayadeva/j19.html
Here is another version of "priyE chaaruseelE..."; from the Telugu movie MEGHASANDESAM:
