This raaga is said to be at least 1500 years old.
It seems there's a Bharathiyar song sung by Varalakshmi in this raaga.
@app Engine - need to hear it to see if it was actually tuned by IR - For bharathiyar songs, most of them have the raaga to be used specified (though IR deviated from the set raagas in his songs). Need to check if it was an actual bhairavi or a modification.
That apart - are you by any chance in a data mining project?
Jai,
I don't think the writer literally meant it. My take is that he was saying that Raja has used a wide variety of ragas and talas and in that he is correct.
 இல்லீங்க. சில சமயங்களில் "பொழுது போகாத பொம்மு" ப்ராஜக்ட்'ல இருக்க வேண்டியிருக்கு, அவ்வளவு தான்:-)Quote:

Bhairavi, Thodi etc are called "gana" ragas and as they are quite difficult to play around, normally our film MDs avoid them and esp Bhairavi" is close to Mukhari which is considered as an "oppaari" raga :))
And Rahman's "enna seiya pogiraai", except for that tiny flute bit in the interlude is just not Bhairavi
