Dear Yokesh Babu Sir. Thank you for your good intentions in projecting NT as a role model to Rajini or for that matter any other generations' actors. At the outset it is apparently true that Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan, hailed as the 'Suymbulingam' of acting could shape up and refine his acting career by trial and error process without copying any other actor in this world be it his contemporaries like Marlon Brando or Charlton Heston...like that. However, NT had resorted to give life to his characterization by way of getting inspired by some people in real life whom he admired, like the Kaanchi Periyavar for his role in Thiruvarutchelvar, TVS Krishna (?) for his Gowravam Barister Rajinikanth role... like that. In Pudhiya Paravai too NT's Paarththa Gyaapagam illayo intro scene is an inspiration from Bond/Connery's intro DrNo tuxedo get-up and cigarette/drinks handling styles. ...Inspiration is little bit different from xeroxing!
(RKS Sir had already posted in this thread some comparative photograph gallery corroborating NT's inspiration and character polishing approach)
As far Tamil Cinema is concerned, NT has made such a terrible impact as the dictionary of acting for the successive generations of actors to follow his foot prints. That is why any actor when he performs in an exemplary way, it appears to our eyes that this actor tries to copy NT. Kamal Haassan or Rajini Kanth are no exceptions, even though they have reached their present day ultimatum by way of their hard work stemming as inspiration from NT's guidelines.
What you feel may be correct as regards the initial years of Kamal and Rajini's attempts to establish their image in the minds of people. Kamal got inspired both by NT and GG while Rajini totally by NT, but as an inevitable starting trouble for them to anchor their roots in Tamil Cinema. But over years, both of them could come out of the shadows of NT and now they have their own originality to be emulated by their next generation, acting traits by Kamal in the NT pattern and style patents with punch dialogues by Rajini in the mould of sheer MGR pattern entertainment arena!
Let us say, Rajini or Kamal had been impressed by NT's acting school of thought and inspired by his immortal acting presentations, rather than merely 'copying' NT!!! But Mu.Ka. Muthu an ardent follower of MGR at that time simply resorted to copying his icon's mannerisms!!!
But Mu.Ka. Muthu, the then upcoming youngster star also has contributed some pleasing and energetic song sequences, though he failed to anchor his roots in the minds of movie goers!(Stars inspired by NTcould reach their top while a mere copying MGR youngster could not make it!)

Dear Yukesh Babu sir, inspiration is the polished usage of words rather than copying, in my opinion!! Rajini's style base is derived as an inspiration from Uththamapuththiran's Yaaraadi Nee Mohini mannerisms of NT (and to some extent the dancing style movements of Ravichandran too! For cigarette handling style Rajini's inspiration was Shatrughan Sinha who only first introdured that style of spinning cigarette to reach lips!!) and his do-gooder image from MGR formula inspired by Errol Flynn's Robin Hood type roles!!For Kamal, needless to say as all NT movies are inspirational guides to him Legends always live and guide us even as generations are consistently changing.
My humble request Yukesh Bab(y)u sir. Let us not hurt the feelings of our youner generation Rajini and Kamal fans as we already had some surges regarding such 'Pandora's Box opening' issues.
