"Vanakuyile" - Priyanka
I'm fine until I hear this song...but when I do...I cannot escape from its music...happily ensnared...may the magic never be broken...SPB's voice...his yearning...painfully sweet....such romantic lyrics...whatever new gems there are to find...though i am happy for the opportunity to add to my enjoyment of the Maestro's work...it is those pieces (gem or not) that for reasons unknown capture us and their magic never ceases to mesmerize...truly grateful for being able to even amateurishly appreciate the work of such a genius...play on Maestro...play on...
very circular song. one phrase leads to another and taken individually, the phrases are not very sweet, but when arranged in a seamless fashion by the musical architect, it opens up a new breathtaking architecture - representational of some western classical music pieces. Raja proves he is the maya (master architect or indian puranic literature) when constructing such musical architectures,,
Que,
Thanks for the pick.. Jaiganes a ezhudha vechuteenga. adhuku oru Thanks.
Jaiganes,
Rajavin paatai kaetal kidaikum oru inimai.. Ungal Writings lum kidaikum......... Thank u.
Vanakuyile is a tricky composition - in terms of the way he structured the pallavi. I like the song. Infact, someone should try the instrumental version of this song - instead of the usual tried and tested kaatril enthan geetham & other songs from 80s. There are many songs in which raaja changes the percussion in charanam and gets back to main percussion for Pallavi. But in this song, the change doesnt happen right in the opening lines of charanam but in the middle of the charanam - which is unusual from raaja. Good to see someone suggesting it - been long time since I played it!
Sankara ninnu - A hilarious song (sung by MV & group) from the movie Kavidhai Malar:

Made more hilarious with VA Moorthy's voice. This is an avial song with comedy dialogues, carnatic bits (mainly Shanmugapriya) and remix of Paruve Pudhiya padal, vadi en kappa kizhangu, etc.
A song that I never heard before:
Ennai Thodarendhu from http://www.thiraipaadal.com/album.ph...R00338&lang=en
I dont know the basic raaga of this song, although i do feel panthuvaraali at some points. Raaja's strings ensemble in the interludes goes for a kill. (ah, get the same strings sound today mr. raaja - we yearn for it). a very balanced rendition by both Yesudas and Janaki. The composition sounds very mature - as if everything was in proper place. The first interlude especially flows so naturally from pallavi and raaja cuts in the mood into a panthuvaraali more with a string section stroke. lovely!
The opening piece reminded me of the opening piece in the song Aval appadi from Angadi Theru. slight resemblance.
Thanks Kamal for reminding me of this song. Don't remember where I have heard it earlier but I have :) Anyway it is quite difficult to get the raga though as you say Panthuvarali dominates. Wonderfully sung by Jesudas and Janaki. And as usual for some vague movie!!
CRV,
A super song. I have this CD. Lovely song. Similarly 'Jyoti' was lot of freak out songs.
Lovely song Aakarsh , really really nice
The Interludes are just magical
Another great 90s find :)
