Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan - Part 5

Remaking the films of NT is no joke. Plum avargalin list-il Devar Maghan, will be a treat to watch to see the Kamal/Surya to raise their acting skills from their current margin to the level of the great Sivaji/Kamal !

I think if any NT's period movie had to be remade in Tamil, the only actor to be quoted for them will be Kamal. I dont think anybody in the current market, has the expertise to technically handle the tamil language as Kamal does. Maybe NT is the reason behind Kamal's inspiration towards Tamil and he would be the one would do justice to the movies like Kattabomman. The Rangaraja Nambi of Dasavatharam is running through my mind as I say this..

Dear friends,
I too am not against remakes. But to my personal self, I feel the remake of the same language is itself not worthwhile. You may remake films from other languages, which is meaningful. But that too is not an immediate solution. Each and every language has its own culture and has immense talent available. As to my humble knowledge goes, the number of magazines publishing novels monthly is around 20 to 30 which itself is an achievement for a language. Why not producers and filmmakers encourage new talents and original writings and bring out more and more creations to limelight? This is one question.

Coming to remake of NT's movies - well, the best thing is leave him alone. There is no body who can match him, incl. Kamal. His diction of Tamil is unmatchable. How many actors nowadays have such a voice culture? Or will the directors allow to speak in such a tones and lengths when each and every letter is recorded separately. And how clear the words will be? Can you point out any actor who is capable of speaking the language of Tamil clearly?

In the name of reality, our language is sacrificed. That is a sad truth. NT alavukku thelivagavum thulliyamagavum Thamizhai pesa ingu yaar irukkiraargal? Yaarukku andha alavu kural valam ulladhu? Idhaiyellam puram thalli vittu avar padathai remake panninal adhu eppadi irukkum?

The skill in Adaptation, as we have seen for past so many years in Tamil cinema, is well known. Then how can we expect present day film makers would do justice for the remake films of NT?

Though I am not for remake of NT film , in another angle it will be good .. when a remake of NT film comes ,more people can realise why NT is unmatched.

Yeah I mean remake in the context of reinterpretation.

For instance a man moving to a new love, finds his past haunting him. He knows it cannot be. But the only way to get past it is to confront it. And that would be suicidal to his newfound persona. At one point he breaks down and invites a confrontation upon himself. Only to know that a more cruel twist is yet to come.

Imagine taking just that shell alone from Pudhiya paravai. Don't do piano on a cruise boat, or the vestless wail of despair. There's no point.

I mean things of this sort.

For most of reinterpretable Sivaji films, with subtle performance demands and <given that we don't spend money for chewing cud thus :lol2:> I think Rajini will be great to watch.

But these reinterpretations, I like to believe, have happened anyway, distributed across films and characterizations in their own subtle way.

The most poignant moment in PadikkAdhai mEdhai is when Sivaji refuses to be insulted. He cannot understand it. It is we the audience who feels the insult and feels saddened and angry, he is just goodness personified that he just doesn't get it.

When in PKS, Simran says she does not have feelings for him, Kamal's response is : "yEn". That one moment, seemed to pick right out of Rangan.

MMKR - Michael intro scene - the way kamal gets up from slumber and looks around - very similar to the thug Sivaji played in Bale Pandiya or Uththama puthiran villain sivaji..

It has been done already, Plum. Except they were not called official remakes.

Rajini's Mullum Malarum is a beautiful reinterpretation of Pasa Malar. So does Padikathavan, though it is a Hindi remake, does it not remind you of NT and the Pa varisai films, as would Darmadurai? What about Kamal's Per Sollum Pillai, it was intentionally made with NTs early 60s films in mind and they hired KSG for the story. Let's not even talk about Karnan's remake. These are good interpretations.

And then there are podipassangga remakes. Totally unacknowledged one where due credits are not given. There was a Vijay film where Simran would not know who he really is owing to her blindness, does that not remind you of Niraikoodam?

Avavan kaapi adichittu busyyaa poykittirukkaangga. Ippo ethukku remake-u podalangga ellam :huh:

True, Grocucho, I would say dharmadurai is similar to remake of Bhimsingh's pazhani?

Yes, Thamiz, Pazhani comes to my mind.

There are only two actors who can do and have done NT film remakes - Rajini and Kamal.

It's amazing how sometimes when you think carefully, how some films have immediate narrative connection to some NT films.

Take Rajini's Muthu, for example. Sure, it is a Malayalam remake, but the film that came to my mind when I think about it is one with similar title, Muradan Muthu. Strange, considering both are remakes.

Just for fun.

Rajini's close relationship and loyalty to Sarath Babu, then he was forced to leave.
NT's close relationwhip and loyalty with Banthulu then he was forced (though it was his decision) to leave.

Ride on horse carriage with philosophic song.
Muthu: Oruvan Oruvan Muthalali.
M.Muthu: Ponnaasai Kondoorku Ullam Illai.

Rajini has love affair with someone of his own status, Meena.
NT has love affair with someone of his own status, Devika.

The end.
Rajini becomes part of the Jameen.
NT becomes part of Jameen (Asokan's family)

Of course, I did some selective thinking there, but you get the point. :wink:

Oh, did I mention that both lead characters name are the same :P
