Captain Prabhakaran is a 1991 Tamil action film directed by R. K. Selvamani. It features Vijayakanth in the lead role. It also features Mansoor Ali Khan, Roopini, and Ramya Krishnan. Sarath Kumar appears in a small role. It was Vijayakanth's 100th film; he earned the nickname "Captain" after this movie. The character of the antagonist Veerabhadran (played by Mansoor Ali Khan) is loosely based on the forest brigand Veerappan.

Plot

Captain Prabhakaran (Vijaykanth) is an IFS officer sent to Sathyamangalam to nab terrorist Veerabhadran (Mansoor Alikhan) who tortures the people of that place. Prabhakaran not only going to nab Veerabhadran but also to avenge the death of his friend Rajaraman IFS (Sarathkumar) who was a forest officer killed by Veerabhadran. Police commissioner, collector are corrupt and supporters of Veerabhadran. In the climax, Veerabhadran kidnaps Prabhakaran's wife and son. Prabhakaran comes in correct time saves his wife, son and nabs Veerabhadran. Ramya krishnan loved Sarathkumar and she dies by giving birth to a child. Veerabhadran is shot dead by corrupt inspector and collector. Prabhakaran kills both of them and he is dragged to court for killing police inspector and collector. Prabhakaran tells the truth that they were corrupt and the film ends with Prabhakaran being released from the court. This film was dubbed in Telugu as Captain Prabakar with packed houses.

This film was dubbed in Telugu as Captain Prabakar with packed houses.

Why they have to involve so many people for dubbing the film. IMO they might have wasted lot of money in that dubbing process.

Yes, Captain prabhakaran is my favourite movie too,, basically im a rajini fan but watching movies of captain too..
Captain prabhakaran is highest collection movie among vijayakanth movies, i saw the film in my 13age with my family @ Kilpauk sangam theatre, on 90's time sangam will placed cutouts for every movies they having 3 screens if they released 3 movies there will be 3. they placed 70 feet cut for CP Dont know wheather fan made or theatre.. captain prabhakaran ran some 200 days .. run at kerala 100 days (The only VK Movie ran 100 day in kerala, vanathaipola also not reached 100), and the telugu dubbed also run alomost 120 days in AP, Very big movie, but i dont know why these guy are posting like these comands they did not see the movie but they post what ever their opinion's.. CP is one of fav movie that is why im here..

some says that 91 year movie captain prabhakaran did well but its next to chinna thambi asp collection.. chinna thambi ran 175 days in some 10 theatres, where Cp celeberates there 175 days on 6 screens on Tamilnadu, but im sure china thambi is a not re release material, and no persons to watch the movie in rereleases, but surely tell CP is one of the movie which ofter used to releasing in cities, urbans.. same way i like pulan visaranai. whenever is think about captain prabhakaran felt why rajini not did any movies like this, anyway some movies are fits some actors only, basha/thalapathy - captain cant do like this, and movies like pulan visaranai & captain prabhakaran will not suit for rajini

என்னுடன் ரொம்பவே நெருக்கமாகிவிட்டார். எங்களுக்குள் நல்ல புரிதல் வந்துவிட்டது. கதைகூட கேட்கவில்லை. `ராவுத்தர் சொன்னால் போதும்' என்று கூறிவிட்டார்.

படத்துக்காக கடுமையாக உழைத்தார். எப்படிப்பட்ட அபாயகரமான காட்சியென்றாலும் சற்றும் தயங்காமல் இறங்கிவிடுவார். சாலக்குடியில் 60 நாட்கள் படப்பிடிப்பு நடத்தினோம். ஆள் நடமாட்டமே இல்லாத பகுதியில் எந்த ஆபத்தைப் பற்றியும் கவலைப்படாமல் துணிவாக நின்றார். படத்துக்கு 110 நாட்கள் படப்பிடிப்பு நடத்தினோம்.

ஹீரோ விஜயகாந்த், ஆற்றைக் கடக்கிற மாதிரி ஒரு காட்சி. இரண்டு மலைகளுக்கு இடையில் கீழே ஒரு கயிறு, மேலே ஒரு கயிறு, நடுவில் அவர்! அதாவது ஒரு கயிறு அவர் கையில்; இன்னொன்று காலில்! கூட வந்த ஐந்து பேர்கள் கயிற்றில் கால் வைக்க, மேல் கயிற்றுக்கும், கீழ் கயிற்றுக்கும் இடைவெளி அதிகமாகி, கை இழுபட்டு அவரால் தொங்க முடியவில்லை. அவருக்கு, தோள்பட்டை இறங்கும் பிரச்சினை வேறு இருந்தது. மிகவும் சிரமம் அவருக்கு. இருந்தாலும் எதையும் அவர் பொருட்படுத்தவில்லை.

அதுமட்டுமல்ல. அவர் வீரப்பன் இருக்கும் இடத்துக்கு வரும் காட்சியை ஆறு, மலை, அருவி போன்று பலவற்றைக் கடந்து வருவதுபோல் படமாக்கினோம். இதற்கே பல ஆயிரம் அடிகள் எடுக்க வேண்டி இருந்தது. அதுவே பெரிய சாகசம்.

பெரிய ஹீரோ என்ற பந்தா இல்லாமல் எல்லோருடனும் அன்பாகப் பழகினார், விஜயகாந்த்.

இருப்பதைச் சாப்பிட்டு, கிடைத்த இடத்தில் தூங்கினார். சாப்பாடு பரிமாற ஆட்கள் இல்லையென்றால், அவரே எடுத்துப்போட்டு சாப்பிடுவார். மற்றவர்களுக்கும் பரிமாறுவார்!

அவருக்கும் எனக்கும் நல்ல புரிதல் வந்துவிட்டதால், யார் கூறும் புகாரும் அவரிடம் எடுபடாது. படப்பிடிப்பு எந்த பிரச்சினையும் இல்லாமல் போயிற்று.

மிகவும் சிரமம் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, இரவு - பகலாகப் படப்பிடிப்பு நடத்தி, படத்தை முடித்தோம்.

24 ஆயிரம் அடி

எடிட் செய்தபின், படம் 24 ஆயிரம் அடி நீளம் இருந்தது.

பொதுவாக ஒரு படத்தின் நீளம் 14 ஆயிரம் அடி. அதிகமாகப் போனால், 16 ஆயிரம் அடி இருக்கலாம். இது கூடுதலாக 8 ஆயிரம் அடி இருந்தது. அதாவது, ஒரு படத்தின் பாதி பாகம்! ஒரு படத்துக்கு முக்கியம் நீளமா? அல்லது எடுக்கப்பட்ட காட்சிகளா?

நல்ல காட்சிகள் எல்லாம் இருக்க வேண்டியது அவசியம் என்றாலும், மொத்த நீளம் 14 ஆயிரம் அடிதான் இருக்க வேண்டும்.

இதனால், மிகவும் சிரமப்பட்டு நீளத்தைக் குறைத்தேன். விஜயகாந்த் சார் ரத்தம் சிந்தி நடித்த பல காட்சிகளை இரக்கம் இன்றி வெட்டி எறிய நேரிட்டது. அப்போது என் மனம் பட்ட பாட்டை விவரிக்க முடியாது. அவ்வளவு மனச் சங்கடத்துடன் என் கடமையைச் செய்தேன்.

லட்சம் லட்சமாகச் செலவு செய்து எடுத்த காட்சிகள் வெட்டப்படுவது ராவுத்தருக்கு தெரிந்தது. அவர் கோபமாக, "என்னடா படம் எடுத்திருக்கே! ஒரு தயாரிப்பாளரை காலி பண்ணிட்டியே!'' என்றார்.
ராவுத்தரின் குணம் எனக்குத் தெரியும். எப்போது திட்டுவார் என்பதை கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியாது. அவசரப்பட்டு பேசிவிடுவார். பிறகு வருத்தப்படுவார். உணர்ச்சிவசப்படுபவர். எதிர்பார்க்கிற நேரத்தில் பேசமாட்டார்.

அவர் இப்படி சொன்னதும் எனக்கு அதிர்ச்சியாகத் தெரியவில்லை. காட்சிகளை எடிட் செய்து, படத்தை ரிலீசுக்கு தயார் செய்தேன்.



விஜயகாந்த் மகிழ்ச்சி

படத்தைப் போட்டுக்காட்டியபோது, விஜயகாந்த் சாருக்கு திருப்தி. "சரிபண்ணிட்டியே... நல்லா இருக்கு!'' என்றவர், "ஆமாம், நான் கஷ்டப்பட்டு கையில் ரத்தம் வர நடிச்ச காட்சியெல்லாம் காணோமே! அந்த காயத்தோட வடு கூட இன்னமும் அப்படியே இருக்குப்பா!'' என்றார், சிரித்தபடி!

படம் அவருக்குப் பிடித்துவிட்டது. அதுபோதும் எனக்கு.

ஆனால் ராவுத்தரோ திருப்திப் படவில்லை. "படம் நல்லா இல்லேப்பா!'' என்றார். அவர் மனம் மாறும் என்ற நம்பிக்கை எனக்கு இருந்தது.

வெற்றிக்கொடிபடம் வெளியானது. திரையிடப்பட்ட இடங்களில் எல்லாம் பிரமாதமான வெற்றி.

அப்போது, தமிழ்நாடு, ஆந்திரா, கேரளா, கர்நாடகா என்று எல்லா இடங்களிலும் 100 நாள் ஓடிய ஒரே படம் இதுதான்.

படம் இந்தியிலும் `டப்' செய்யப்பட்டு வெளியானது.

இந்த சமயத்தில் ஒரு சோதனை. படம் ஏப்ரல் 14-ல் வெளியானது. மே 21-ல் ராஜீவ் காந்தி படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்டார். அதனால் தியேட்டர்கள் தாக்கப்பட்டன. அடிதடிகள் நடந்தன.

இரண்டுநாள் இப்படிக் கலவரமாக இருந்தது. பிறகு படம் வசூலில் அள்ளியது.
