Yes Cedy, the songs were superb..this one was nice to the ears... and Vaadi Vaadi song was the last song before he sang Google Google. His dance moves in that song too were mindblowing.

DSP's Voice, I agree :).

Was very appropriate for King of Chennai (Badri), but for a melody, not very effective.

But the song's tune was too good.

Love this tongue twister! The bitterness in this twister never seems to stop!

Betty Botter had some butter,
"But," she said, "this butter's bitter.
If I bake this bitter butter,
it would make my batter bitter.
But a bit of better butter--
that would make my batter better."

So she bought a bit of butter,
better than her bitter butter,
and she baked it in her batter,
and the batter was not bitter.
So 'twas better Betty Botter
bought a bit of better butter.

These days, every time a music director is signed for a Vijay movie, it's become a norm for them to claim that it's the biggest in their career. First Anirudh and now DSP.

http://cinemalead.com/news-id-devi-sri-prasad-says-vijay-58-will-be-the-biggest-vijay58-27-06-145444.htm

Devi Sri Prasad has recently confirmed in a TV show that he is composing music for Vijay's 58th film which is to be directed by Chimbu Devan. Devi Sri Prasad has said that Vijay 58 will be the biggest project in his career and thanked Vijay for giving him opportunity to work with him for another time.Vijay 58 will have Hansika, Shruthi Haasan, Sri Devi, Sudheep playing important roles. Produced by Vijay's PRO PT Selvakumar and Thameens, the film will have cinematography by Natraj and art direction by Muthuraj. The shooting for Vijay 58 is likely to happen in the month of September.*

I don't understand why some people care so much about this pole. Even Vijay fans don't even go on about it here. If anything, the only people who truly should care about are Rajini fans if anything. But they know that Rajini has nothing more to prove. He is already at that height that no one will be able to even shake. A simple pole can not give or take away the status Superstar.

(I thought I would compare a useless pole to a poll. It obviously made more sense in my head than when written)

Mappi Anna,

Yeah, as you rightly say, the discussions here about Sachin was to relive some of the Vijay's past fanworthy performances and share each others' experience. We will rightly get back to that and some of Vijay's subtle performances were between LoveToday-TMT days and it would be fascinating to discuss about that.

Having said that, all the hungama over a recently concluded poll and the whole lot of crap written cannot be past under the carpet.

Will post it as a seperate response.

Guys let's just end this ... I don't know about earlier. .but ever since I've joined the hub... the pattern I see is that everytime some good news about Vijay or some success about Vijay is celebrated, a few people want to play spoilsport by trying to provoke. I haven't seen any of us doing that in another thread. I would request all Vijay fans to divert our attention back to talking about Vijay and his movies and good things. Let's ignore all this negativity around...now that the cover of all these fake news have been blown off.

The comedy scenes between Vijay and Vadivel could have been better. I felt, the backdrop, the 'guest house' gave the scenes an artificial feel. But still Vijay was as always, pretty cool :)

One of my favourite movie of Vijay. I would never miss a chance to watch this movie whenever it is available for watch. Vijay summa casuala panniruppar[I do not think any other person could pull this role of with such ease] and thats the greatest strength of Vijay.

Only drawback I felt in that movie was vijay's hairstyle, which I never liked.

Songs, Dance, Comedy timings, Romance[that can be felt] all in one display by VJ in this movie, If at all I would like some random person to watch some Vijay movies, Vaseegara will be on top 5.

For me,
Start was with Kadhaluku mariyadhai and Ninaithen vandhai for obvious reasons.. I still consider Ninaithen vandhai is one of best thalaivar's look..and then irubadhu kodi nilavugal song..lovely visuals & dance..wonderful to watch the best onscreen pair ever..
finally comes Kushi.. made me a complete fan.. very close to my heart.. still it tops among my list of favorites and always be for some reason..

GSV... Shajahan is one movie in which Vijay has given one of the best performances in the climax. Amazing and outstanding acting...you just get so emotional and feel for the character. As I always say...Vijay is a brilliant performer and his acting skills have been overshadowed by his mass hero "larger than life" image.

Cheers!!

2. Jilla - 3367 plays
3. Maan Karate - 2566 plays
4. Cuckoo - 2397 plays
5. Yennamo Yedho - 2320 plays
6. Veeram - 2208 plays

Good to see all our friends sharing their opinion about Vijay and their favorites among all his great movies. It may probably be a good idea to talk and know what people think about what kind of directors should Vijay work with and why?

I can start ... I feel someone like Vetrimaran would be a good choice if possible. A subject based movie with some local flavor to it would be awesome to see Vijay in.

ajaybaskar
30th June 2014, 08:50 PM
Maniratnam and his Ponniyin Selvan would've been a great thing. Unfortunately, the budget didn't allow the project to be a feasible one, at least at this juncture.

Mudhalvan was another miss. Vijay was 28 then. Pughazhendhi character was of the same age, played by 40 something Arjun.

Paruthiveeran and Autographs were golden misses too. But I felt Cheran fit the role to a 'T' and Vijay in that role wouldn't have worked out this well.

Yes Paruthiveeran was definitely a miss. Wish he had done that. Anyway hope he does try doing these kind of offbeat roles at times. Commercially, they may not be huge as his other "mass" movies, but these roles definitely do a world of good for an actor like him to try roles in different genres.

Couldn't agree more with you guys.

Vijay-Vetrimaran would be a dream combination.

A rare director who keeps the commercial flavor alive all the while providing ample scope for the lead character to perform and excel. Would be a great outcome.

I am not sure how many would agree, but i still think if Yohan happens, that would be splendid too...I know the risk involved with the project, but still would be happy if it happens.

Ameer sure would bring a different dimension to Vijay. He spoke in length about Kannabiran for Vijay.

As fellow hubbers had mentioned, Paruthiveeran was a golden miss. If I am not wrong, even Mounam Pesiyadhey was supposed to be written for Vijay.

But the only problem I see with Ameer post paruthiveeran is his tendency to drag the project beyond reasonable time like how Aadhi Bhagavan turned out to be.

Looks out of form, but Ameer is class. Vijay with Ameer would be an exciting prospect.

The director also revealed that Vijay was ready to shed his mass image and do some experimental characters at this point of time, which gave him optimistic the optimistic feel . if time permits the duo will soon join for a flick. http://www.kollyinsider.com/2012/04/mysskin-wanted-ilayathalapathy-vijay.html

Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Jilla delights fans again!
We earlier reported about the Top 10 Albums of the first half of 2014 in Chennai's FM Airwaves. Jilla, which had composer D Imman’s music, stood in the second place, only next to Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiiyaan, that had AR Rahman’s songs.
At this juncture, Star Music India, the label behind the music of Jilla, has released the Original Sound Tracks and Background Score of Jilla, to the delight of fans. The Music Box can be accessed here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6mwURwqwYU
Jilla, starring Ilayathalapathy Vijay, The Complete Actor Mohanlal, Kajal Agarwal, and Soori in the lead roles, turned out to be one of the big money spinners of 2014. http://behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-cinema-news-14/ilayathalapathy-vijays-jilla-directed-by-rt-neason-delights-fans-again.html

Hari-Vijay combination also has a chance or two to topple some box office records.

IMO, Hari is yet to work with the the best-fit actor for his commercial scripts :)

Plus, his schedules are well planned and quick.

Hope it happens.

Personally I feel Vijay should consciously make sure he gives a gap of 3 films at least between 2 out and out mass masala movies, even though that's in his sweet spot. So Hari and Vijay combo, even though may break a lot of commercial box office records, would probably be best if made after a couple of years.

Is that Mysskin article true? If so, I will personally be very happy to at least hear that Vijay is ready to shed his mass image and opt for subject based roles.

Roja actress Madhoo Bala has made her comeback with Vaayai Moodi Pesavum which got good critical and commercial acclaim. Now the actress will be acting in the Kannada remake of Telugu blockbuster Atharintiki Daredi opposite Sudheep. In her recent interview the actress has said that she used to watch commercial films when she was in Mumbai, apparently she expressed her desire to act with Rajini and Vijay. Madhoo Bala has also said that Vijay films are the most entertaining ones.

I agree with that Dammy.

But i also think Vijay should give atleast 2 movies a year and if that needs to happen consistently, Vijay needs to work with quick finishers like Hari and Suseendran.

The worst thing with Thalaivaa with all release-issues and all is, it robbed Vijay of the hard-earned Thuppakki-momentum & form and with no further releases in 2013, the year turned out be an average one.

This is where the likes of Susee and Hari would come in handy.

After Chimbhu's project, which in all probability will not release any sooner than Summer '15 or later, Vijay should join hands with the likes of Susee to ensure a quick and crisp commercial release.

I just happened to watch this completely last night. Not sure if anyone else shared this, but I truly loved the part where Kamala theatre owner talks about Vijay and his movies. As a Vijay fan, I felt good after listening to stuff that he said. Some key things that I remember :

1. A Vijay movie is NEVER a risk. The debate or conversation is always around how big a hit it will be. If the movie is good, it's gona end up like a Thuppakki. .even if it's an average one, it ll run better than most others' movies.
2. If it's a Vijay movie, the audience is not one sided (his words), but men, women, entire family comes out to watch his movies.
3. He also said a Vijay movie is like a festival. ..and he quoted that within 13 minutes of opening the online booking, 2 shows get completely sold out for his movie.
4. The comment I liked best was when the host asked..how is a Vijay movie compared to others...to which he said...Vijay movie gets a massive opening which even others get..but what makes it different is the longevity..i.e. a Vijay movie will sustain even after 10 days (through the 2nd Monday) due to his fanbase.

If you guys haven't seen it, you should watch it. I think his section starts around the 1hr 2minute mark in this video. Felt great to watch and listen to it as a Vijay fan; that too coming straight from a theater owners mouth makes it so impactful.

Cheers!!!

“I Want Vijay’s spot” – Jai’s frank talk
Fresh from the success of Vadacurry, actor Jai was caught in a very frank conversation with a popular magazine. When he was questioned about his ambition as an actor, here’s what Jai had to say –
“Like Ajith, Vijay, Suriya and Vikram, a new set of actors like Simbu, Dhanush, Jiiva and Arya have made the list of top actors. I want to make it to the top five too. Right now, I myself am wondering where I belong. But frankly I want Vijay Anna’s spot.”
The young actor started his career as Vijay’s brother in Bagavathy and here he is, with an ambitious mission. Here’s wishing him all the luck for his career.

Sachein

Completely contrasting to his customary larger-than-life intro, but just loved his subtle intro in Sachin.

Name titles and the background score lead into the first scene where a subtle looking Vijay watches from the window as his car hassles towards the airport.

Those where the Ghilli-Maduray-Thiruppachi days and watching him in a cool underplay of an opening scene was refreshing.

DSP's background score was good too.

Sachein was cool and breezy and was much different from the action masalas he was doing then. He and Genelia made a great pair and vadivelu rocked too. On the downside, the plot was quite similar to Kushi and Bipasha disrupted the flow of the movie.

But I liked the way Vijay dared to release it with two biggies and come unhurt.

Next one is obviously Gilli introduction.

Velayudham sonna puriyaadhu song entry :notworthy:. - Colorful

I like Nanban's introduction also though it had shades of Amir Khan. Very calm but commanding.

Other good ones are - Youth, Thirumalai, Thuppaki, jilla, Puthiya geedhai ...

HR Anna,

Thanks for sharing this video.

Without doubt, Thirumalai is one of the most important success stories in Vijay's career so far.

Vijay was doing o.k. before Thirumalai, but nothing spectacular as such and all the while Vikram was making merry with so many hits/blockbusters in such a short span of time.

More than anything else, Thirumalai made Vijay fans happy and then Ghilli was accepted and celebrated by everyone.

It all started in the Saamy 125 days function when K.Balachandar Sir spoke how we will get to see a 'viswaroopam' of Vijay in Thirumalai :)

Prophetic words those.

Yes. That was a good sequence and good that you mentioned it with the video. As you said, Thirumalai set the perfect platform for Ghilli and it also helped people forget the Udhaya debacle which released between Thirumalai and Ghilli. The trimmed mush also showed Vijay much younger. Compare Priyamaanavale Vijay with Thirumalai Vijay and you would see the difference.

And another surprise was Kavithalaya signing Vijay. They don't often do mass entertainers and if I am not wrong, Thirumalai and Saamy are the only ones.

One of my favourite duets of Vijay. Rendered by Sriram Parthasarathy and Saindhavi, this song is a melody with an abnormal pace to it. And for someone like Vijay, who looks so energetic on the screen, this song fits like a 'T'.

'Hai' Madhan, who was a part of Ananda Vikatan, spoke very highly of this song. The BO result of this movie may have made the public forget the whole album. But its a treasure for all ARR fans.

Not one of my favourite movies, but I liked this scene. In fact this scene was my only solace in an otherwise forgettable watching experience. I am talking about Kuruvi and the club fight. Vidyasagar’s background score and Vijay’s intensity makes this scene a definite watch and I have liked this more over the years. Offcourse, the sequence has a few over the top flying, but we are talking about Kuruvi here and considering other high-fly’s in the movie, the ones’ in this sequence are a lot better.

Are we on to songs now?

If so, this could lead to some of the best Vijay discussions/sharing in hub.

I am sure a lot of us, not just fans, even a lot of neutral hubbers' here would have a list of Vijay songs that would be in their favourite's list.

Infact, the popularity/adulation some of them have enjoyed over the years has been pretty unbelievable.

Vijay is probably the only actor who can carry both a fast dance number and a slow melody with nonchalant grace and ease.

Let's share the very best of Vijay's songs :)

I would like to start with everyone's favourite from the maestro.

It has always given me an impression that Udhayanidhi got the call sheets of Vijay, Trisha and roped in Dharani and then they wrote up a story in quick time just for the sake of making a movie with this hit combo. There were few Dharani touches but as a whole, the movie disappointed the general audience. And the songs weren't good too. When a combo returns after delivering an all time blockbuster, the expectations would be sky high and you have to fulfill at least half of it. It didn't happen in the case of Kuruvi.

I agree Ajay. Everything looked rushed and half-baked, beginning from the title.

Dharani tried to make a typical Dharani/Vijay movie in the first half and took a more serious 'Charkram' theme in the second half. Both looked under-cooked.

Nevertheless, Vijay's brilliance was to be seen atleast in this club fight sequence :)

After seen the first look of Kuruvi, I thought the movie will be a dark action thriller . Hit combo + first look increased expectations only to get disappointed.
It was a wasted oppurtunity for everyone in the team. As Uday rightly said, they shud had given impotance to story and screeplay rather than hit combination.

As a VJ fan we always have soemthing to enjoy in a movie even if its a disaster (Naan nadandhal in Sura ) ... Things I liked in Kuruvi
1. Promotion posters
2. Thaen Thaen and Happy new year song
3. Bar fight with theme music background
4. Kaadu na singam - Sequence after interval

Dammy, if you remember KSR in another audio release openly requested Vijay to try working in different genre. I don't remember which audio function. Vijay had announced that he will work in the remake of 3 Idiots and after hearing Vijay say this, KSR spoke in length about how Vijay can expand his horizons if he chooses different movies.

In a lot of ways, KSR may have triggered this positive change in Vijay.

Good share, bro :)

Vijay retains the top spot yet again in his strongholdJul 06, 2014
Ilayathalapathy Vijay is known to enjoy a fabulous following and market share in the UK. Even his average films go on to do good business there. In the first half of the year, Vijay had Jilla to his credit and as expected, it has emerged as the number 1 grosser in the UK, among all Tamil movies released in the first 6 months of 2014.
The top 5 grossers are as follows
1. Jilla - £243,029
2. Kochadaiyaan - £157,020
3. Veeram - £150,090
4. Maan Karate - £65,225
5. Tenaliraman - £34,185
Vijay's Kaththi would hit the screens in the 2nd half of the year and we can expect it to dislodge Jilla from the top spot.
