Kumki's grand audio launch

After making super hits like Paiyaa,Vettai and Vazhakku Enn 18/9, Thirrupathi Brothers is all set with their next highly anticipated film Kumki's audio launch. Padmashree Dr.Kamal Haasan will release the audio of the film and actor Suriya will receive it.

The expectations are high since Kumki is coming from none other than Prabhu Solomon whose earlier film Mynaa won several awards and honours apart from critical acclaim. Yet another alluring aspect is Prabhu is introducing debut actor Vikram Prabhu, the grandson of late thespian Sivaji Ganesan and son of veteran actor Prabhu as the hero of Kumki . Also Solomon and D.Imman are coming together for Kumki after their sensational musical hit Mynaa. The film is being produced by renowned production house Thirrupathi Brothers.

This Friday is a historic moment. Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan's grandson, Vikram Prabhu, Prabhu's son, makes his on-screen debut in Kumki. This movie is presented by Thirrupathi Brothers' N Lingusamy and produced by N Subash Chandra Bose. It is released by Studio Green K E Gnanavelraja. In the Prabusolomon-directed Kumki, Vikram shares screenspace with Lakshmi Menon and Manikkam, the elephant.


How has his debut flick shaped up? Vikram says, "Kumki has been a wonderful experience to me. We have shot in spectacular locations for the film. Shooting for the flick was physically tiring. I lived a different lifestyle during the making of the film. I had to run barefoot in the forests, tame an elephant and trek gigantic mountains during the shoot. When I saw the outcome, I was so happy. This is the magic of cinema and I understood it in my very first film itself."


On playing the role of a mahout and forging a special relationship with the elephant, he says, "The character taught me a lot of patience, which is the most important aspect of a mahout. I miss Manikkam now. He was incredible."
So, is Vikram feeling the pressure of this momentous occasion? The actor says, "The pressure is very much on. All these days I was excited about the release. My fingers are crossed for a good response for my debut film. I have an added responsibility as I have come from a renowned film family. There are high expectations riding on me. I hope I do not disappoint my grandfather's and my dad's fans."


Ask him how his family background helped him bag Kumki and he says, "My family tag helped me for the first step in films. But I know only my hard work and talent will take me further from here."


Vikram recently met Rajinikanth at his residence. He says, "Rajini sir has always been very supportive. I met him on his birthday and got his blessings for my debut film. He wished me wholeheartedly for Kumki's success."

"Vikram was the perfect fit for the role which I had in my mind. Also, he equipped himself fully well for the character. He will rock after Kumki's release," Prabhu Solomon says.

After completing studies at the Theatre of Arts College in Santiago State University, Vikram assisted Vishnuvardhan in 'Sarvam'. Then he wanted to try his hands at acting and was picked by Prabhu Solomon for 'Kumki'.

"I worked at the gym very hard and shed 30 kgs. My wife assisted and motivated me a lot to achieve the mission. I am hopeful that my performance in Kumki will be talked about," Vikram Prabhu says.

The Censor Board has cleared 'Kumki' with U certificate, which means the film can be watched by all age groups. Following this, the movie is gearing up for a big release, quite appropriate to its title. Welcome 'Kumki', we say.

தணிக்கைக் குழுவினரின் சான்றிதழுக்கு முழு தகுதி பெற்ற படம். குடும்பத்துடன் சென்று கண்டு களிக்கக் கூடிய படம் என்ற தகுதி இப் படத்திற்கு மிகவும் பொருத்தம்.

பிரபு சாலமன் இப்படத்தின் மூலம் தன் மீதுள்ள நம்பிகைக்கையத் தக்க வைத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார். அதற்கு சான்று இப்படத்தில் கதாபாத்திரங்கள் அதனைப் பின் பற்றுவது. ஒருவருக்கொருவர் நம்பிக்கை துரோகம் செய்வதற்கான வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தாலும் அதனை செய்யாமல் நல்லொழுக்கத்தைப் பேண முடிவெடுப்பது நல்ல துவக்கம். இதன் அடிப்படையில் ஒரு கதையை உருவாக்கி, அதனை ஒரு யானையைச் சுற்றிச் சுழல வைத்து அனைத்து மனித உணர்வுகளையும் சித்தரித்து கச்சிதமாக ஒரு படத்தைத் தந்து மக்களிடம் சென்று சேர்க்க முடியும் அதற்கான முயற்சியும் மனமும் இருந்தால் என்பதை சாலமன் இப்படத்தில் நிரூபித்திருக்கிறார். கிட்டத் தட்ட இரண்டரை மணி நேரம் ஒரு மலைப் பிரதேசத்தில் சுற்றுலா அழைத்துச் சென்று அங்குள்ள மக்களுடன் நம்மை பழக விட்டு திரும்பும் போது கனத்த இதயத்துடன் அதே நேரம் மனித நேயமும் மனசாட்சியும் உறங்காது என்றும் நிரூபித்துக் காட்டியிருக்கிறார் பிரபு சாலமன்.

பொம்மன் ஒரு யானைப் பாகன். ஒரு மலை கிராமத்தில் கொம்பன் என்கிற காட்டு யானை அட்டகாசம் செய்து பயிர்களை அழித்து மக்களை அச்சுறுத்தி அவர்களின் வாழ்வாதாரத்தை நசுக்குகிறது. இதற்கு ஒரு முடிவு கட்ட வேண்டும் என வன இலாகா அதிகாரிகள் முயல ஊர் மக்கள் அந்தப் பிரச்சினையைத் தாங்களே பார்த்துக் கொள்வதாகக் கூறுகிறார்கள். அதற்குக் காரணம் அரசு சலுகை என்ற பேரில் அரசியல் வாதிகள் நுழைய இடம் தரக்கூடாது என்று அவர்கள் எண்ணுகிறார்கள். அறுவடையை நல்ல படியாக செய்ய விடாமல் தடுக்கும் காட்டு யானையின் தொல்லையை ஒழிக்க ஒரு கும்கி யானையை அமர்த்த முடிவு செய்கிறார்கள். தற்செயலாக பொம்மன் அந்த ஊருக்கு தன்னுடைய யானையுடன் செல்ல நேரிடுகிறது. அந்த யானையின் பெயர் மாணிக்கம். மாணிக்கம் கும்கி யானை அல்ல என்றாலும் பொம்மன் துணிந்து அந்த ஊருக்குச் செல்கிறான். சந்தர்ப்ப சூழ்நிலைகளால் அவன் வள்ளியுடன் காதல் கொள்கிறான். பொம்மன் காதல் என்ன வாயிற்று, காட்டு யானையின் அட்டகாசம் ஓய்ந்ததா, இது போன்ற கேள்விகளுக்கு விடையை வெள்ளித் திரையில் காண்க.

பொம்மனாக வரும் விக்ரம் பிரபுவின் கடின உழைப்பு ஒவ்வொரு காட்சியிலும் தெரிகிறது. அனாயாசமாக யானையின் மேல் ஏறுவதும், தந்தங்களைப் பிடித்து தொங்குவதும் யானையின் நெற்றியில் முத்தமிடுவதும் அவருடைய ஈடுபாட்டிற்கு சிறந்த சான்று. கதாநாயகி லட்சுமி மேனன் மிகச் சிறந்த அறிமுகம். வெளியீட்டில் சுந்தர பாண்டியன் முந்திக் கொண்டாலும். நீண்ட நாட்களுக்குப் பின் விழிகள் பேசும் நாயக நாயகியரை இப்படத்தில் பார்க்கிறோம். குறிப்பாக தன் யானையை உரிய சான்றிதழ் இல்லாத காரணத்தால் அதிகாரிகள் அழைத்துச் செல்லும் போது பொம்மனாக வரும் விக்ரம் பிரபுவின் பார்வையில் அந்த ஏமாற்றம், சோகம், இதை முதலிலேயே சரி செய்திருக்கலாமே என்கிற எண்ணம் போன்ற பல உணர்வுகளைக் காண முடிகிறது. குறிப்பாக யானையுடன் அவர் உரையாடும் காட்சிகளில் நாம் நம்மை மறந்து விடுகிறோம்.

இந்தப் படத்திற்கு மிகவும் பக்க பலமாக இருப்பது தம்பி ராமையாவின் நடிப்பும் இமானின் இசையும் ஒளிப்பதிவும் படத்தொகுப்பும்.

சொல்லிட்டாளே என்கிற பாடல் எத்தனை முறை கேட்டாலும் சலிக்காத பாடல்.

தம்பி ராமையாவின் சிறந்த நடிப்பு இப்படத்தைத் தூக்கி நிறுத்துகிறது. ஒவ்வொரு காட்சியிலும் அவருடைய பண்பட்ட நடிப்பு காட்சியை தொய்வின்றி எடுத்துச் செல்கிறது.

மலைப்பிரதேசங்களும் அருவியும் என ரம்மியமான சூழலிலும் சரி இரவுக் காட்சிகளானாலும் சரி ஒளிப்பதிவு மிகச் சிறந்த முறையில் உள்ளது.

நல்ல திரைக்கதை, படத்தொகுப்பு என ஒரு முழுமையான படத்தைப் பார்த்த திருப்தியிலும் அருமையான முடிவின் தாக்கத்திலும் நாம் வெளி வருகிறோம்.

Vikram prabu is no winner in the looks department - but he does have screen presence and he can act - expression sit well on his face and his eyes are something else - prabhu jaadai konjam irukku - i am happy :)

dont go expecting a happy ending - it is a clean family entertainer... you will enjoy it

Prabu Solomon is a director who takes his chances seriously.. he has put in a lot of hard work in this movie.. antha Jog falls scene ellaam well thought out and well executed.. very good response in the theatre.. (Marudanaaayagam falls scene theatre-la paathaa eppidi irukkumnu yosichen :sigh: :( ) .. climax is good ..

The movie follows commercial-class movie format.. thats the grouse I have with this movie.. Thambi Ramaiah is intolerable at places.. though he acts well, he is aping Vadivelu in almost all the scenes and his character is tooooo predictable.. Ramanarayanan movie range-kku one or two scenes .. BGM is loud and jarring in the first half atleast.. thats all about the negatives..

louuu scenes are good at places but lacks depth and too naive at times..

the movie does connect emotionally with the audience.. graphics are good enough..

Vikram Prabhu deserves praise.. very believable as a yaanai-paagan.. :thumbsup: he emotes decently too..

now coming to the songs.. Imman thambi kalakkittaaru.. this guy is a Don Bosco pass out.. but the songs are in superb sync with the situation and milieu .. antha climax tribal song :clap: none of the songs are waste.. lyrics :clap:

definitely the movie is going to be a big success..

I was in dialoma to book/ not to book ticket for this movie...

Watched Lee @ theater, because of it I watched Mynaa in DVD. To me both are two extreme. The question in my mind was Where do KUMKI fall....

On my view, it was not upto Mynaa but it is not far away from it.

kumki... above average... for the story, backdrop and the actors... the tribal gramam looks believable... nalla pannirukkaanga...

i think this guy is a bala wannabe giving negative climoxes... aah ooh'naa kattukkulla poi padam edukkuraar... the village, set pieces and stuff, heavily inspired from aravaan... including the heroine character and the hero coming from a foreign land... but it was gripping a bit with too much buildup for 'komban' who did not stand up to his image in the climax... both the hero and the heroini did well... and thambi ramaiya started well and was getting irritating towards the end... i liked him in mynaa...

bgm was adequate for the visuals but the songs were a bit monotonous for me... that kerangura folk melody which we listened in aadukalam... ayyayyo, yaathae etc., all the songs followed the same pattern and hence a bit boring for me...

ellaam nalla pannittu kadasi graphicsla konjam kOttai vittuttaanga... if they cannot afford to do a realistic animation, they should have atleast planned to have the climax in dark... so that the animation would not have looked so obvious due to contrasting lightings...

Kumki : Kumki is a trained Indian elephant. They are used mostly for taming and training of newly captured wild elephants and also to lead away wild elephants that stray in to human settlements. They are also used for the purpose of breeding.

A beautiful (& fresh tale) of an elephant, Manikkam, and his journey with his trainer Booman into the bright and dark side of life and reality. Without giving out much : A remote tibal vilage is threatened by a fierce elelphant Komban (attention he looks out for young girls). How Manikkam and Booman come across Komban and puts an end to the misery of the tribals forms the story. On their arrival to village, Booman falls in love with Alli, which leads them to stay in the village and backfires with the confrontation of Komban.

Appreciations to the Prabhu Solomon to have woven out a wonderful story. He had partially suceeded in the execution too. Why partially : The main problem is as huge as the beauty of the story. You could realise the confusion of whether to move the story in the emptional pov of the elephant or its trainers. Finally the confusion lands up in an abrupt ending, where eventhough the emotion is well captured, the impact is missing due to the stray in the narration. Eventhough I did not appreciate the ending, I feel that if the ending was reversed, the impact could have been more, as most of the part minus the love angle focuses on the elephant.

Vikram Prabhu has come out with a neat performance. Whether smile or cry, he emotes what is needed. But still he has to focus on his body language and the manerism of the role he has taken. He comes around in the "lungi" with an attitude in "jeans". Secondly as all the newbies, dialogue delivery and giving the right emotion in the voice during dubing has to be worked upon. Climbing on the elephant is a treat to watch, and he does it with ease. All the very best to him.

Expectation on Thambi Rammaih was huge inside me, but it fell flat. He has given a decent performance, but more could have been extracted from him. Music / sound is a major plus, paring beautifully with the cinematography. Another mention is for the CG elephants. I wouls say they have suceeded but tunning to the perfection is needed - to highlight, in the last fight, suddenly the elephants look bigger than trees. But its indeed a great effort to put the imagination of the writter on scene with a very good choreography.

The feel of drag is mainly due to the repeated episodes of Thambi Rammaih and the villagers, nothing different or heart warming love moments.

Kumki is a film to experience.

another cliched love story with the same cardboard friends and ruggedana oor makkal.idha ellam maraika oru yaanai.borenu oru varthaiyoda mudika mudiyadhu..the much appreciated thambi rammaiya(good in parts) is all but trying be a Vadivelu..broken english,getting humiliated,giving frozen looks when hero is in love ellam vaigai puyal odadhu..
d.imman's songs are good.vikram prabhu nalla irukaru,looking forward to his future movies.

Kumki is the number one movie of the year in many aspects. especially cinematography is award winning piece of work. Also Vikram Pirabu has proved him self in many scenes that he is grandson of the legend. I really liked the movie.

It failed to provoke the sadness that Solomon wanted to extract from us. During the film before the climax, Thambi Ramaiya character became irritating and him geting fried came as a releif.

OKish movie. Vikram Prabhu has a good future provided he chooses good scripts. Cinematography and music was fine. Thambi ramaiya was funny due to Vadivelu's comedy template. Without him this would have been a boring movie.

Finally watched Film after very long time(after billa 2 :P)

As I start I want to appreciate Director and cinematographer for the research and execution. these films can be stored coz there are hardly less films that reflects the right culture and lifestyle 'Malai vaazh grama makkal'.But during the course of shooting i could literally feel how much the environment was disturbed(Thats a sad part :( )

Coming to movie all actors did well,I'm greatly surprised to see lot of ppl got irritated of him whereas i see him as savior of several dull scenes and all great movie with lot of good moments except few of the minuses

- Lack of punch in the climax (actually directed wanted us to get emotional but failed)
- Wasted some characters after giving so much of build-up,Like Komban(villan elephant :)) and two police rangers.
- Choreography of SOI SOI song.

Over all good movie but can be even better.

No. 1 REJECT is Vikram Prabhu who is not fit to be a hero. idhula nadigar thilagam pEran vere :banghead: I have said many times that Prabhu is not even 10% of his father. However Vikram is not even 1% of his father. No acting ability, no body language, no emotions and quite ugly to boot with. :oops:

No. 2 REJECT is characterisation. I hate it to the CORE when young punks treat elders with disrespect in the name of comedy or otherwise. Prabhu Solomon has done it AGAIN after Mynaa. I shudder to think what kind of person he is in real life. :(

No. 1 HIGHLIGHT of the movie is the fantastic camera work. A 100 :bow: to the cameraman. Fantastic sceneries and the waterfall moments are overwhelming! Technically its so brilliant. The animation could have been better.

No. 2 HIGHLIGHT is D. Iman. He is actually the hero of the movie. True that there is an overdose of songs to make up for the paper-thin story, but the songs capture instantaneously and NOT a single person walked out for the 6-8 songs!
BGM and theme music were excellent. Not only juniors, but seniors too can learn from him.

Special mention: Thambi Ramaiah, love him or hate him, the movie would have been a total bore without him. Enna oru acting, body language, timing :thumbsup:

And finally Prabu Solomon - I wonder how many times he is going to force-extract sympathy. Myna ending was so cinematic that it spoiled the whole movie for many. Here it is worse. No sympathy at all. However the screenplay is good, in spite of the one line story.

Verdict: Myna, in spite of its flaws, is a better movie. (And I didnt think I will live to say this: That actor was 10 times better than VP)

- the comedy track by GM, Vivek or Vadivelu that we still share links to ?

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan together!

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan will once again been seen together not onscreen, but off the screens at the 100 days celebration of Prabhu Solomon's Vikram Prabhu starrer Kumki produced by Lingusamy. The two super stars were also present at the the audio launch of Kumki a few months back as they have always been close to the Sivaji Ganesan family.

Lingusamy already invited Kamal Haasan and got his nod, it is learnt the Kamal has said it is his duty to attend the family function and also blessed that Vikram Prabhu will become a big star.

The film which hit screens on December 14 in approximately 300 screens was declared a hit. The film's simple story that revolved around an elephant and the music by D Imman cast a spell on the audience. Now with the movie emerging a big success and fast approaching the 100 days mark, the producers of the film Thirrupathi Brothers have decided to invite Kamal and Rajini again for the 100 days success bash as well.

While the director is planning his next film with Gautham Karthik, who is making his debut with Kadal; Vikram Prabhu is already busy with Saravanan's Ivan Veramadhiri and Sigaram Thodu.
