We are all living the same way, the same way,
We are escaping the same way, the same way,
Circling.
We are a part of the same play, the same play,
We think we're making our own way, our own way,
Circling.
You don’t have to hold your head up high

I wanna hide the truth,
I wanna shelter you,
But with the beast inside
There’s nowhere we can hide.

We still are made of greed,
This is my kingdom come,

Rajini Murugan Movie Songs

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CGuGgwXVIAIDoTd.jpg

Got the CD yesterday, and been listening to Rajini Murugan movie songs. A quite regular album with few graceful moments esp. Yennama Ippadi Panringale Ma was loaded with tiny bits of electro music which were catchy. Suprisingly, the upgraded version was listenable too. Then, Rajini MuruGun song was so cheesy that it is so good, plus Siva gets a paragraph for self this time. Found Un mela oru Kannu quite slow for my ears giving it ample time to enter and exit several other songs. But again, I have to hear them for another week to suituate whether I am keeping this album on my playlist. Jigiru Jigiru is a typical folk with matching lyrics - cliché : Marikozhunthu.

My favourite for the moment from the album is Aavi Parakkum Teakadai. Rendu Reason : The rythmic beats where the original is my favourite, can't deny the likeness here too (for a movie title like that, you got to have music bits like this too) & for the awesome vintage commerciales. Think just like Moda Moda song from Kanchana 2, this song should be quite fun too : Odunga Odunga Mr. Jack, antha kodiya mirugam nambala nokki thaan vanthukitu irruku (LoL).

This is a very typical Ghibran song, not meant as a bad thing. He has done many songs that has a children song feel to it. Other songs are: Sara Sara Saarakaatru, Amma wake me up, Teddy bear. The difference is the orchestration of the song. This song has an international touch of brilliance to it. Way to go Ghibran. We expect more great songs from you.

I saw the trailer for this movie, and got hooked to this song. It sounds better in telugu, but the music is still catchy. The autotune could have been avoided, good singers doesnt need their voice to sound robotic.

Song of the Open Road; literally! :)

A homeless man who just happens to be a piano virtuoso is finding a glimmer of hope on the streets of Sarasota, Florida.
The city recently installed pianos in the downtown area for the public to play. Now, Donald Gould is displaying his passion
for music and a talent that might have gone un-discovered. It just so happens, someone captured video of him playing which
quickly went viral with two million views and counting.

I have a feeling the movie wont do well in tamil. But the songs from the movie are good. Anup Rubens has re used the same songs from Ishq. Anup Rubens is like Deva ( copies many songs) and Thaman S. (using auto tune a lot too). But in this song he broke his pattern and composed a soulstirring melody. the best part is Hariharan "melody song specialist" has sung the song. I dont know about others but when it comes to me a melody song can work like a pill to reduce stress from a hard day in life.

Andhra Mess, the movie's OST proposes 3 straight songs (Orey Oor Mudhale, Sittham & Aana Oona), a remix version of Sittham & a hindi version (Shiddath - which is wonderful) to the same song, plus 4 instrumental pieces including the Themes (Two liberated Souls, The Loot Ride & Loot Plan) & Orey Oor Mudhale instrumental version.

We recently learn how producers with 20% of money, are getting financing for a movie! The same must be true those days too! :)

Afro-Cuban percussions smoothly get the rhythm started and thus a Salsa vibe appears which mingles with a piano and the slapping of a double bass allowing a Jazz flavour to slide in. That’s not all, flutes, uillean pipes, mandolins, accordions, and in addition to this, a backing female chorus provides a tranquillising harmony to a vagabond’s energy driven blithesome interaction with his lover and the world. It’s a complete eclectic mix of Mediterranean, Latin American and Highland music. Before its ending, a warm and mellow homage is payed to yesteryear’s Bollywood music but the consistent catchiness is not compromised but gets even more polished.
Heer Toh Badi Sad Hai – Mika Singh and Nakash Aziz
This is an excellent example of an item song not being commercially over the top or having the need to rely on vulgarity. Yes, it’s a Bhangra song but it certainly doesn’t express womanising or alcoholism. The xylophone is a fine touch within the realms of traditional instruments but it is the captivating second interlude which hits bullseye followed by an ecstatic ending making one wonder if they heard a happy or sad song.
Tum Saath Ho – Alka Yagnik and Arijit Singh
The melody possesses an old-worldly charm but it’s feelings in a Romantic Duet that always deserve to be dealt with precision as the emotional quotient is something reflective of inner sentiments that bind lovers. This song does exactly that but goes a step further and tries to exploit both belief and disbelief in love.
Wat Wat Wat – Arijit Singh and Sashwat Singh
A kind of Wedding song with a Reggae backdrop is used to expose a rowdy’s frustrated nature who wants things to go his way but unfortunately lands in unfavourable situations due to kismet. The average listener could easily relate to many comical mishaps presented in this song not to mention the gripping flow which gives a quality of addiction.
Chali Kahani – Sukhwinder Singh, Haricharan and Haripriya
The young generation can learn about cultures, heritage, epic legends, etc. with this song. Both Cantatas and Hindustani chants merge together to create a Classical chemistry with references to history that go beyond geography.
Safarnama – Lucky Ali
Musically, the subtle but unmissable Taiko Bachi adds to the Folk and Country aura in this song. There is fine poetry and the love for poetry here is sweetly fragrant. This song isn’t in the same comfort zone as the others but by being different it revives sensuality, escapism, nostalgia and simplicity. Enjoyment via music happens to anyone and everyone but self-discovery via music is rare but when it does happen then a feeling evolves beyond comparison.
Parade De La Bastille (Instrumental) – A. R. Rahman
A. R. Rahman provides yet another instrumental which is Medieval in its sound treatment but highly reflective of a composer who knows that stardom isn’t the destination as the journey should always continue. This is a passionate piece of music that should allow listeners to identify the bright composting flame that he has conveyed till date.
Wat Wat (Vengance Mix) – Arijit Singh and Sashwat Singh
The Dubstep element in this remix accentuates the original whilst retaining the Shehnai. Beyond its conveyed message, the song on a musical front reciprocates between different and not necessarily wacky sounds thus exploring global lifestyles.
Tu Aur Koi – A. R. Rahman, Alma Ferovic and Arjun Chandy
Ending the soundtrack, comes a hypnotic Downtempo track. A. R. Rahman always selfishly reserves the best for himself, but maybe he doesn’t see any other singer suiting that particular song. It is important to acknowledge that ultimately it is talent that reaps recognition and with this song, he tries to reach, touch and absorb the listener but before this he has to drown in his own music. The resulting odd sound due to Operatic and Gregorian echoing, melodic hooks and manipulated rhythm are just what listeners expect from A. R. Rahman who is popular because of these unconventional approaches.
Time has always been a filter, deleting and saving as it pleases. Mainstream and commercial projects are just as old as meaningful art house projects. More and more people are joining social networks, viewing and listening to media with an open mind and within seconds of hearing a new song have power in deciding to skip or continue with it. Both Cinema and Music reflect two sets of people in society, those who accept change and those are quite firm with their attitudes. The songs bring about this baffling quality with which listeners might try and figure whether the lyrics were provided first compared to melody or vice versa. The beauty of “Tamasha’s” music should eventually turn out to cater towards everyone’s needs. It has regional, traditional and international elements intact. Diamonds come from a coal mine and it’s fair to say there are a handful of stellar songs here but whether a particular song is a unanimous favourite is yet to be seen but despite this everyone should at least have two or three memorable favourites whilst not discounting the experiments and surprises that A. R. Rahman and company have delivered.
Happy Listening!
Sunil

Song is from upcoming malayalam movie Anarkali starring Prithviraj, Miya George. Song is composed by my alltime fav MD Vidyasagar. Singers are Shadab Faridi and Shreya Goshal. Some parts of the song remind of Shenbaghame Shenbaghame, but I still like the song though.

I like such type of sound tracks too, and sometimes those which are mixed for Dubstep (if done properly). I prefer them over the 'auto-tune' chart busters, at least these type of songs have some character in them, and I am a huge fan of Black Comedies. In 'Domer-u Lord-u' you can hear the chorus Oh-Oh sounding like dogs barking (LoL). And I have no idea how and from where these guys pick the vocals, Kavita Thomas is amazing.

Not in any form of defense just because its IR or contridicting how the songs made anyone feel, but just to layout, not in detail, briefly about the Genius Album - Thaarai Thappattai.

It's difficult for me to distract myself from the songs. The major highlight of the Album is the orchestra, which is not unique but original. In recent years the rise of 'Thara Locals' has dumbed the ears with synths & keyboard driven beats camouflaged with loud vocals. Here, an instant note is that the pitch is the same and the gel between the vocals, percussion and the wind & string instruments which are intervened together.

The next is the choice of vocals and instruments for the setup. The movie is about about professionals, so tunes and rythms are manualed too, not like a 'Local Boy' dancing in the rain. Paaruvaya song opening is a hint to the long lost glory in TFM. 'Idarinum' is very vibrant and the setup is entirely different. Again the wonder is not about tunes, but bringing back good music which the ears were longing for. So when the auditory organ grasp the sound waves, the happiness is felt all over the body. The gushing sound lifts the song and places it in the distinct category well assited by the violin/flute/guitar bits.

The theme music in Thaarai Thappattai is the best out of the best, rightly put by K as 'An Ethnic Symphony'. A musician with immense caliber could only conceive a musical piece such that in folk. And I totally agree with Hulkster - "The interplay with different percussions is one thing but once those nadhaswarams come in and lay onto you, it becomes a symphony of anger."

The Album is a kick off of an emotional drive where the visuals will force itself to bend and blend.

Paranitharan,

I remember having a similar conversation with you, here (http://www.mayyam.com/talk/showthread.php?8427-%A4-TH%C5L%C3-%A4-Thagaval-Mayyam-PART-10&p=1127929&viewfull=1#post1127929), and expressed that I hardly use Headphones/Earphones. Headphones, however they are marketed, are just enhanced stereo outputs.

I got :

Sony wireless Headphones [MDR-RF855RK] => using it primarily for gaming with some dubstep on them to rest assured on battlefields.

Sony Earbuds [MDR-EX650APT] => attached to my Sony Vaio, to initially listen to 'crappy-mono toned' Youtube audios.

Sennheiser Earphones [MX475] => attached to a Sony 5.1 player at my private bar, listening Reggae during 'transcendental meditation' sessions.

I always recommend an acoustic room with decent speakers, soundcards, original/good source of the music, gadgets like players/amps/broadcaster/receiver/more importantly the cables/etc. Most of the collections include vinyl records, cassettes & CDs. For flac, as these days our industry depends more on Youtube Sensation, there will be a gifted soul who will upload it on torrent, just got to search and get it => google is your friend.

I use audio-technica's ATH-M50x Professional Monitor Headphone. It gives authentic audio without any filtering. It is used by most professionals I know. I have been using it 2 years for audio editing for video games and trailers. It is pretty great.

Great Mr. GreyShirt.

Sony MDR-7506 Studio Headphones, its one of the oldest, I think. Try them if you get a chance. It comes with OFC coiled cord (OFC=Oxygen Free Copper) and gold connectors. It can be directly connected, be it to a system or instument.

Here is a quality and well mixed song that should be bouncing in your headphones. The song particularly has singers pitching in with different high & low notes, with a choral accompanying them, where the mixing is damn good between percussion, wind & other managed sounds. The first half of the song has the string (mandolin) following the vocals, later it gets a solo. Then the beats take over. This song should sound amazing as the recording is awesome with a terrific treble to it.

From Malayalam movie Double Barrel composed by Prashanth Pillai [Singers : Arun Kamath, Shabaraeesh Varma, Rahul R Govinda, Gagan Baderiya] :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_6MxCq7OyI

EDIT :

The album Double Barrel also features an original French Song written & sung by Gilles Denizot - Amour Amour (My Love). It features during a witty satirical suituation, when 3 teams battle it out to get hold of Laila & Majnu, the yellow & red gem stones. Taking a close range standoff with arsenal ranging from handguns to pistol to automatics, the bunch are motionless until a 'nature's call' brings the bullets roaring down the roof, not to mention a contract sniper killer is out there close by.

mappi, you should do a compilation of the comedy songs in tamil cinema.

off the top of my head, starting from the black/white era, we have 'jambulingame jada jada', 'poonthamalliyile', 'vaa vathyaare' etc..

then raja did a number of amazing comedy songs - 'ooru vittu ooru vandhu', song in chinnavar - kadalora kavithaye, 'suba raagamae' in kanni rasi and various janakaraj/kamal songs (jappanil kalyanaram and vikram)

deva did a great job too - vaadi potta pulla veliye, poya un moonjila en kayya vaikka, chappa chappa (colour kanavugal) and kokkarakara giri giri from chocolate comes to my mind straight away.

karthik raja did 'aathu metula rosa' from enakkoru magan pirappan

rahman did not get much chance to play in this genre. he got only 1 chance and imho didn't do a great job - barotta barotta song in vandicholai sinraasu

Not an easy question to answer, as the more you look at the question, the more complicated it becomes, atleast to answer. I will try :

Music, be it instrumental or lyrics or both combined inside a song, is psychology dependant - the one who impliments (the composer) and the other who accepts or prepares to be affected (audience).

When a (genuine) composer watches a footage, he immediately can sense the need to enhance the performence inside the images. He prepares himself not to distract but to arouse an interest which is his prime objective. Amoung several others aspects, the two major difficulties are to bring in a change in mood and sustain it at the same affective state. For exemple, irrespective to the occupied state, a good music will take the listener out of the initial state and place him into another modified & confined state. It acts as a medium to concentrate or atleast tries to buckle up the audience, while not really forcing them to be interactive. Thus, a composer works on wuch a conclusion where he makes arrangements to perform and deliver according to the nature of the need.

There are few methods employed, and our BGM score depends mainly on the composer who actually doesn't only compose, but conduct and direct the muscial score (Ref: your post on Kadalora Kavithaigal BGM). With the arrival of Santosh Narayanan (& Anirudh esp. in Vedhalam), the film makers get a draft of the music after the initial discussions - a kind of score with minimal sounds to direct their scenes from the script. Iruthi Sutru music was composed for the script and then enhanced with the visual. Same with Theri Theme Music in Vedhalam. (There maybe few other exemples, but these are the ones I can come up with).

A cinematic film score can be with or without vocals, and the vocals can be a choir. All this is decided by the Musician (some cases the script holds such informations if the film maker is very specific (very rare) /or/ the film maker can ask for different musical bits for the footage to see which one suits the mood that he had visioned and visualised). If it comes to IR or ARR, the film makers can take a break !

The composer also decides the tonal range, the choice of instruments, the silence (which is a wonderful music by itself when invoked correctly), rhythmic, high/Low pitch (instrument or vocal), repetition, timing etc. So he picks up an instrument with which he can easily meddle with to produce the needed sound that suits the suituation at the same time enhance the presentation. Here is what I had talked about Thalapathi BGM (http://www.mayyam.com/talk/showthread.php?10454-Why-I-Consider-IR-Unparalleled&p=1166700&viewfull=1#post1166700[B), where you can notice the choice of instruments used for the same tune over different suituation to provoke the appropriate emotions embedded with sensibility (and understanding).

The essential is to make a person, like me who are not well versed in music, to get integrated within. A good composer envelopes the listener just like the sound of rain where the individual is not wet but could experience the rain even when protected by a shade. A composer is more like a provocator who makes the indulged ones to stop what they are doing and allow them to follow the music. A latest exemple is in Thara Thapattai BGM score.

A normal BGM (Dramatic Background Score) or Comedy BGM, depends how the same instrument is made to produce different sounds that bring out varied reactions (as in Joy or Sorrow). In several occasions, IR has demonstrated how he flirts with the instruments and notes. The one I liked the most is his explantion on the approach he made for the song Oru Poongavanam from Agni Natchathiram where he pleased the film maker as well as marked his stamp into the song (Ref: Nee Thane En Pon Vasantham Audio Launch).

For me : Tune played on lead instrument to produce melody/harmony to suit the mood, with or without vocals, depending on the context or the suituation addressed.

great explanation mappi (as always).

if you close your eyes and listen to the bgm without seeing the visuals, you can tell easily whether it is a bgm for a comedy scene or a normal scene. IR has well and truly mastered this art.

With only four tracks, the album definitely packs a giant punch and who knows whether the album would've been better or not with more songs. Sometimes more is less. Ajay-Atul are at their best with this and I feel very fortunate and elated to hear such an album. After Hrishikesh, Saurabh, and Jasraj's Phuntroo this is another soundtrack that is pushing me to hear more and more Marathi music this year!

Many individuals daily glance at the sky but only a fraction appreciate its breathtaking scenery, the sky is a constant reminder that there are no boundaries. Some individuals are always staring at it looking at its beauty, be it admiring the Sun which is the reason we're alive or gazing at Stars and both are exuberant examples of perfection.

Another example of perfection is Music which like the Sky doesn't have any boundaries. We go out in the open air when it's sunny to feel the breeze but sometimes decide to stay indoors whereby the breeze flows and enters its way into our environment.

I feel this song has done exactly that, it's breezed into my life fortuitously and I want more of it so have intuitively granted all the spare time I have to it but beyond this its unraveling in my system at all other times. The result is nothing but Love and Peace, both for nature and this song.

Sairat's title song has musically inundated me, I can't escape or rather I don't want to. Along with "Taal Se Taal" its by the far the most opulent title track I've ever heard.

It's bursting with folk flavours making me detached from yet bound to the earth. My feet are tapping naturally, my head is undergoing a psychedelic rush and admist this I feel my heart is beating at the tempo of this song.

Happy Listening!
