Masss - Entertaining

Just back from premier show.. I liked it and enjoyed.. didn't felt bored.. Yuvan's bgm superb.. Surya excelled in dual role..

Satisfactory fun ride!!

AB mentioned movie is for kids.. may be adult with kids heart like me will enjoy this movie ;)

Comparing Anjaan with this movie and claiming ANjaan is better than this is too much IMHO..

I watched Anjaan after all the dust had settled and found it to be entertaining, at least in parts. Hence the comparison. :)

Since many haven't watched Masss yet, let me not get into what I felt was bad with the film. Let me reserve it for another day so that we have company. :)

Glad u liked it..

Saw ur fb post. Have to agree on one count. Even when i watched the film, many refused to walk out after the movie was over. Only the ushers were finding it difficult to wake them up. :lol2:

Anyways, let me stop here. The real picture will be known in a couple of days. No individual's opinion (Ennaya sonnen) is going to affect the film's fate.

the discussions in prev page brings the question again : why does both vj and aj fans have a common dislike for suriya? to put it other way, why does a vj hater or aj hater brings up suriya to bring down any of them..... i speculate that it is the 2nd qn that will come as an answer for 1st qn :)

Mass ..... Quite a few highpoints with the majority of the remaining portions being flat. Was neither boring nor completely entertaining. Despite all the surprises working well, the execution was lost somewhere. Good to see different dimensions being put to thought in a commercial entertainer. But somehow felt something big was lost in the translation to screen.

DeMonte Colony

Finally one intelligent horror film after 13B. The real film starts only 10 minutes before interval and from there on, it was one hell of a ride. The first 40 minutes was just a 'கோடிட்ட இடத்தை நிரப்புக'. Credit to Ajay Gnanamuthu for making a film which is an answer to films like 4Bia or Oculus and to Arulnidhi for selecting different scripts unlike his cousin Udhayanidhi

On the downside, the score was kinda noisy.

It is not that kind of film which will chill your spine by showing a haunted house with free roaming spirits inside but one which can infuse a fear in you when ur at your own house.

+10 I loved the movie, kalakitaanga! It was more like 1408, but the twists are superb. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Demonte colony is at Alwarpet is it? I never knew it.

Kaaka Muttai - states the fact if a movie wins NA it wont make any impression on the average moviegoer. I felt sleep after 25 mins, I have no idea what happened after wards, last scene I remember is they showed the pizza store catalogue to the kid behind the fence.

Sorry Kaakka mottai is a borefest for me. I hope others with patience will enjoy the movie.

in a very long time i was able to catch up two movies in one stretch yesterday, both were fantastic, thegidi - crisp, to a point thriller. wonderful story progression and never felt bored even for a minute. great music. I'm upset with the ending though as (i guess) we need to wait for it's second part to come? second films was predestination. it's the weirdest story and after watching this movie i downloaded the novel it's based on (i'm my own grandpa) and read the whole nover in one go. It's fascinating how people imagine and try implementing things on parellel universe and time travels. kinda gave a sense of bioshock inifinite experience but for acting all three characters performed extremely well (including ethan hawke the guy who rarely acts)

bioshock inifinite

Truely an amazing game. Eventhough the Big Daddies/Little Sisters/Adams were missing, I liked the way they gave a new dimension to the series and continued to narrate something extrodinaire just like in BioShock. Now they have hell number of doors to open, each having a potential to be an independent game. Really clever franchise.

http://media.webdunia.com/_media/ta/img/article/2015-05/30/full/1432998503-7537.jpg

http://media.webdunia.com/_media/ta/img/article/2015-06/09/full/1433829095-8569.jpg

Sorry Kaakka mottai is a borefest for me. I hope others with patience will enjoy the movie.

Romeo & Juliet - William lost his spear with his shaking hands

The kind of movie we have seen thousand times in tamil cinema, yet repeated again. In first half the girl makes guy feel bad, in 2nd half its the opposite and at the end they re unites. The movie is not worth the hype it created. D Imaan dissapoints for a change, only Dandanakka is up to mark. Considering the ending this movie would have been a perfect valentines day release.

I cant help thinking the Dandanakka TR made against the movie is part of the movie promotion. and BTW Dandanakka song picturisation is awful. Hit songs deserves really good visuals.

Men want good looks
Women want financial stability

That's how nature planned it but in general only women are taught lessons.

I'm waiting for the day when the hero is taught that good heart is more important than fair skin and beautiful face.

During the day, I don't beleive in ghosts. At night, I am a little more open minded.

Our four little friends, catch-up at a bar and end at De Monte colony to pass their wonderful late evening in the quater's bunglow, a building rumored to be haunted. Day breaks, the daily routine eats them and the following evening they assemble at thier appartments to find out that their place is no more the same, including their television set.

A Horror Fest material for its originality, outstanding sound-track and setup. De Monte Colony-The Movie is a typical genre film-making. As there are not much materials in TFI to track down De Monte Colony-The Movie, please excuse me to bring in few foriegn works. To track its inspiration you have start from John W. Campbell's novel "Who Goes There?" and then come down until the movie 'The Things'. Basically its made out using the concept - Cabin Fever [a person or group is isolated and/or shut in a small space]. Nothing to do with De Monte Colony, but Reeker (Rated R - 2005) is another movie where a group of teens get caught in an abandoned town and start running in rounds. And I watched Assylum [goes also by the names Exeter or Blackmask (Rated R - 2015)] before De Monte Colony. A group of teens - cliché - get stuck inside a building where one by one get pocessed - cliché - their eyes change white. There is a bunch of other movies, maybe when I find some time I will put a note in Foreign Film/Horror Film threads.

Yet again not going into the technical aspects of the film and going 'bla-bla' about how hard its to film inside a 20x20 box-room by taking much care to calculate the height & length and to fix shots depending on the lighting without burning down the arists and pronouncing cuts for the post-production, but just an exemple : Camera (no shakes) moves up to show Alwarpet Sign board, then, moves down (no shake) De Monte Colony sign board. That's how they used their team work efficiently to get a convicing final product.

Soundtrack - Title Card presentation, when De Monte returns and finds about his wife, the violin bit for the TV & the climax revelation - all the pieces were simply superb. Then the 'half-death-metal' suituational song 'Oru Naal Odangal' was excellent. The De Monte back story narration was clear - A De Monte Shining - eventhough I have seen those type of image style elsewhere. Also When De Monte searches for his servants, reminded me of the 'killer-dinosaur (whatever biological name it goes with)' looking for the kids.

The casting is great too. MS Bhasker and his assistant (what is his name please, been seeing him in many movies - also the one who surfs internet) give a nice comical plus plot touch to the film. The whole of ACT 2 is taken care by Arulnithi, Ramesh Thilak & Sanath, while their 4th friend takes a nap. The events that happen in their room are interesting, including the 'ash-arrow', which was kind of creepy. Srinivasan, played by Arulnithi, character gets a bit edged showing what really happens when death knocks and its your turn to open the door. Arulnithi brings out the scary face very well & Ramesh Thilak with his funny lines and comical moves lightens the suituation. The whole idea behind the pocession is great - De Monte playing with his preys. But I did not get the last frame where we see the back of an head upside down beside Arulnithi. What is it & why is it there ?

De Monte Colony brings in an excellent genre-twist where Ajay Gnanamuthu narrates us his horror story rich in Art and has depth in its Content.

De Monte Colony - Hall of Terror

Time travel concept was used well. It didn't seem so unbelievable.... konjam Back to the future types thaan... but nothing silly or jazzy... Is this the director's first film ??? I didn't notice any continuity errors/bloopers - but I wasn't looking for any !!!

Indru Netru Naalai - Good one. Director used his short movie story with different concept (time travelling). Could have easily lost the plot if director concentrated only on time travelling concept but he did not and thats what got him the success. Predictable screenplay but always engaging.

Vishnu, Karuna and karthik have done a neat job. BGM from HipHop Tamizha was apt for the movie.

Indru Netru Naala i - time matters

Definately a movie worth watching. Vishnu made wise choices in his career opting for movies with different subjects. He knows clearly the story is the hero and doesnt try to become larger than life character. Mia George, I am not impressed with her looks, but acting is okay. Another character that stole limelight besides Vishal, Karunakaran is TM Karthik the scientist. A familiar nutty scientist type, who I feel director could have used more in the movie.

Where the movie becomes too clicheed is the Villain. A mad brainy Villain who ends up making the movie too cinematic. We are back at the good vs bad guy type of movie in 2nd half.

Another minus are the songs. I am dissapointed the nextgen directors doesnt dare to go away from songs in a movie. Aadhi's BGM was good, surprised me a lot, only his 2nd movie.

Mr Ravikumar can be proud for making a movie in tamil which deals with timetravel. This has to be best movie in summer so far, but the summer has just begun. Kollywood is certainly going places if more directors like him get chances in tamilcinema. I dont want 80yish, 90yish or 00yish type of movies, my request is make movies that gels with current type of moviegoers taste.

Samsara

Placed an order for Blu-Ray Disc Version. Thanks for the recomendation. In the promo clip you see a Thailand beauty doing the Dance of Thousand Hands. Its a wonderful dance representing Thousand-Hand Guan Shi Yin [Guan = observe, Shi = world, Yin = sound]. Thus Guan Shi gets the name 'The Goddess of Mercy', as she sees over you, listens and responds to your call.

The interesting aspect of this legend or relegious belief in Buddhism (including in China & Tibet) comes from Buddha himself. In Bodhisattva (wisdom over the world), this form is known (in sanskrit) as Avalokitesvara. Closely connected to Saivism (no relegious talks, if you are interested, there are fabulous materials available, and don't forget to get the glimpse of the pictures of Thousand Hand Buddha), Avalokitesvara is the form of Buddha who vowed not to rest until he attained Samsara. He became so cautious to the sufferings of the human kind (mind), so starts to enlarge himself and with the help of Amitabha (the celestial Budhha) he gets more eyes, heads & hands. Now he's got 1000 ways to reach the struggling man.

Year 2013, I visited an Asian Art exhibition at the Guimet Museum Paris. It was one of my memorable visits, where the expositions included arts/sculpture from India, China, Japan, Tibet & Thailand. Watched in marvel those ancient structures standing strong and tall even after about 2K years. Back to the subject, I had a chance to see the 800 year old Chinese representation of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. Below is the photo :

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q7IVDm615Q8/TgTlccDQx9I/AAAAAAAAENg/-S7hQHCOJYw/s400/Guimet+Arms.jpg

(Also witnessed several other representations of the same seperated by several years, culture & dynasty.)

Eagerly waiting to see Samsara on Blu-Ray.

Four Friends ... wait, let's restart ... A mysterious man lands up in Mumbai, gets a gun from the black market and looks for Mudhaliar, the Mumbai God-Father. Soon, an attack puts Mudhaliar wounded in the hosiptal, but he will live. The mysterious man watches Mudhaliar who is now waving to his devotees from the Hospital terrace. Thus begins a tale of the hunters and the hunted - how their roles mingle and make them stand before each other without a clue who is hunting and who is chasing.

Yagavarayinum Na Kakka (YNK), a home production from Adhi Pinisetty-the actor, is a Thriller. Written & Directed by his brother Sathya Prabhas Pinishetty, the film locks itself inbetween Suspense, Mystry & Drama and rides on with it's wonderful title. YNK is loaded with awesome cast - Mithun Chakraborty [Nariyal Wala from Agneepath (hindi)] & Pasupathy (who jointly played with Adhi in the film Aravan), including Adhi taking the prime spot by narrating the story of Saga (meaning Friend), the character he is playing in the movie. There are several artists playing brothers & sisters, parents, friends, goons, side-kicks etc., making the whole story crowded with characters who are vital to the sub-plot.

Satya Prabhas uses fragmented narrative style in a very convincing manner. He juggles with the ample sub-plots, takes in or out the events, when and where he finds suitable, without hindering the flow and allinging them well with the flash backs & forwards. Its a complex narrative structure and when the suspense is releaved, it gets riveting - the way its visually told is gripping. The mystry and the way its gaurded thru memory bits, makes the movie interesting as the writer jumbles up various sub-plots and arrange them in an order that slowly extracts the story.

For some reason I was reluctant to watch 'Mirugam', but when I did I was glad to see a promising artist, Adhi. Eeram was under my favourite genre, so I liked it instantly. In YNK, Adhi remided me of a gangster character called 'Baby Face' from a spanish film. If anyone out there looking to make a gangster film, just put Adhi inside and make him do nothing terrifying, he will still look terrific. His physique bends well in the two well choreographed stunts. He looks massive at the same time like 'a rabbit before the headlights' whenever the respective moment demands. Pasupathy casually plays the 'Don with a heart'. Still love his awesome accent. Mithun Da as Mudhaliar is pacific at the same time undisputed, that mix is a terror and when you include his sunken eyes, he immediately becomes the only one to be dreaded. His short dialogues folds the screen into darkness. It's sad that these guys don't do much films anymore, but at the same time glad that they are still rocking.

The director should have kept away from romance. How many more films are going to be made where a female is going to get slapped or been given a moral lesson on how she should lead her life ... or with all these clichés. Not going to rattle much on that, think the message is passed. As for the technics, you cannot miss any of them as all the work was so neat including sharp cuts, sets & the way each scene was filmed. 'Oozhi Koothu' song is pulsating & 'Thozha Thozha' is gloomy.

YNK is a 'non-hasty' film, well stuffed with thrills and twists.

Yagavarayinum Na Kakka : 'Ab Tera Kya Hoga Saga'*

*Adapted from Hindi Cult Film Sholay dialogue 'Ab Tera Kya Hoga Kalia' meaning 'What will happen to you now, Saga?'

2065 to 2015 to 2012 to any millenium year is just 30 seconds away, thanks to the time machine designed by Scientist Arya with flashing specs. Demo goes wrong only when the initiator is in trouble, but its a sucess if the end user could manipulate the demo material. Ilango & Puli are typical youngsters who wish to make easy money. When they stumble upon the device which could make them rich, they use every possible way to correct and re-correct their lives suiting to their materialistic desires. But everything comes with a price tag with it, and the charges they pay are heavier than what they earned using the Akshayapatra (inexhaustible vessel).

Death can be funny. One guy knew when and how he is going to die. So he traveled through time, corrected few things and returned. Happy, he went forward but was shocked to see him dead but in some other way. He tries to recorrect, but each time only the ways he died were gruesomely different, but he never escaped death. Adding horror to his over enthusiam is that he died all the gruesome deaths several time. And then there was another guy, who tried to cheat death thinking that the death operates on the time discovered by man. He knew the minute exact, so he hid in a time zone where either that minute is past or yet to arrive. What a fool, he got stuck in the new time line eventually, where everyone are strangers, a suituation more dramatic than death itself.

Indru Netru Naalai (INN), treats Death in a similar manner on a Sci-fi background using Time Machine concept. A bad guy who escapes death is the potential danger to the one assosiated with Ilango. Correct it, but remember one must die. The humoristic narration gives a 'light-vien' experience to such a dark tale, very well adapted for TFI audience.

The beauty of INN is that the whole episode is just 40 secs long, where all the events starts and stops within 10 secs. In that 10 secs, the medling with time by Ilango and Puli triggers other events and it gets into a long chain reaction within time itself. Just like the Newton's Cradle (you could see that under the Title Logo in posters), when time in its equilibrium position - suspended straight, is distubed by the force from the Bob's trajectory, impact on the other side known as Massive Bob, as the name suggests, would be massive. Thus, from present, our Duo travel to the past which in return changes the future which is actually the present time they initated the travel. This basic concept of time travel is well handled in INN, eventhough its nothing original in the making, but certainly a grand Sci-Fi film from TFI loaded with tingling drama & smart suspense mingled with comical events.

Ravi Kumar writes & directs INN for C.V.Kumar (What a Man !). Thirukumaran Entertainment streak for proposing and delivering quality films is going unstoppable. They are a threat to my PS3 Headshot Kills Streak, as they are closing in with 9 released films and 5 more filming. Ravi Kumar & team's writing is extrodinary. They have tabulated the events with the characters and they played to their strength. For exemple, the complexity is when more Ilango & Puli are in the same time zone, and handling them with the occured events with respect to the occurence which eventually turns into an incident, is not that simple. There was another man who embarks to change the present, by altering the past. Each time he went he wanted to perfect it more. But eventully he finds more than 5 other selfs in the same time zone, and he could not take it anymore. So he deciedes to go to the 'time-spot' when the first event was triggered and tries to kill his oneself there, so that he can stop once and for all the entire alteration of events. Funny guy ! But in INN, they have it limited, and don't complicate to make them meet in not more than 2 or 3 sequences - the wandering in the alley was funny. By this strategy, the film gets neat else it would have become nasty.

There is a 'over-show' of the Time Machine. All the flashes and disappearences in the begining were excessive. Similarly, all the 'stolen-found' episode were funny but turns out hazzardous for the concept on hand. See you change the past, you alter the present. The variated time of the victim & the stealer is crossed by Illango who directly affects both their lives. There are consequences. If they do many, it just gets multiplied. Similarly the Stock Market episode. Could have avoided such (too much) elaborations, but I don't think anyone is going to raise their eyebrows over it as they all are carefully masked. And the romance is the only tragedy in the film. Kind of felt that the movie had a rushed ending - could have taken the time from the inutile romance and added few more thrills to the climax. But the ending suits the mood of the film. The film is visually appealing, catchy and with a neat musical score makes it look brighter and more beautiful.

To understand INN, we got to see what concept of Time Travel Ravi Kumar has used. There are 3 categories of time travel - Fixed, Dynamic and Multiverse.

Fixed - The point of time they start the travel cannot be altered. How ever the past is altered, the present adopts to give the same result.

Dynamic - You alter the past, you pay or reap the consequences in the present. It may land yourself non-existant.

Multiverse - Lost in time as there is a new time line created where returning to the original time line is impossible.

Then there are various theories using which materails for entertainement are made be it novels or films.

Time Travel and multi-dimension were present in our tales (and Puranas) even before anyone talked or wrote or made a film. Everything co-extits, the floor on which one is walking could be a bed of water in another dimension where one is swiming at the given point of time. The great architect Mayasura who constructed Indraprastha (from Mahabaratha) is still a mystery that one can awe at. It is said (or beleived) that the Siddhars, the Saivaite Saints, had the ability to walk through time. Thiru Gnana Sambandhar once met up with a rich merchant. Sambandhar listened to his pain and could understand the agony of a father who witnessed his 12 years old daughter Poompavai's death by snake bite. Sambandhar made him bring the ash pot, and prayed. Before him now stood a pretty woman Poompavai - she was 12 years old when she died, and now several years after Poompavai has become a lady when Sambandhar brought her back. This is the best and the most ancient Time Travel episode.

INN takes the Dynamic Time Travel and adds its own theories and laws to narrate an interesting story that is span across several years and mixed with major interlocking events.

Premam

A very simple story told in such a manner that the audience laugh, smile, cry from start to end. The plot is quite similar to Autograph but the making is much different and genuine. Nivin Pauly has the knack of picking the right scripts and Premam is no different. The surprise package is Sai Pallavi as Malar, who steals the show with a splendid performance. Everything else is good about this film so that we forget the length of the film which is slightly on the higher side.

A must watch!!

Param ji,

Terminator is a franchise. If you followed it from 1984, I don't see any reason why you would skip Terminator: Genisys, assuming that you have watched 'Rise of the Machines' & 'Salvation'. If you have got past them, you will survive Genisys too. Hollywood keeps on pumping sequels after sequels, and if you have noted, that's what they have been doing for the past decade.

Well, as you have asked : Electronic occupation continues. The characters are retained - Kyle Reese, John Connor & surprisingly T-800 too - and the fight for survival is up and kicking, this time around 2017, if you accept to take the journey from 1984. This is where they try to revive the franchise adding in a new time line to make Arnold fight Himself, which was fantastic. Genisys tris to draw its energy from Judgement Day and the way it juices itself up is just fine, but the way it holds on is questionable as Genisys attire looks stunning but aspect looks older than Judgement day. And if you have followed Rise of Machines, the resistence gets re-written with a new survival mode - Genisys, which is nothing new, but for Alan Taylor, yes. So, the other details depends how much you love the series - like they have a new sound track for Genisys and upgraded Judgement Day machines. Arnold is inside striking with his awesome lines (I will be back - still looks excellent after 30 years), where they try to justify him as a Gaurdian - 'I have been waiting for you'. The tricks makes Terminator a technical mythos.

Genisys depends on your likeness to the series, how much attention you would like to invest and nothing to do with anything negative or positive. I liked Genisys and will like Terminator 6 too, and am not bothered about tomatoes that are rotten.

If you choose to watch it please let us know more about the movie.

Baahubali - :banghead:

I saw it with so much expectation and I was left disappointed. I don't know what people were saying about the visuals. It is good but not spectacular. You can tell what are CG and what is not. The story has been done in more than half the movies in India. It was very popular in 70's and 80's. Even far back. There were so many scenes that made me facepalm out of stupidity. some stupid scene made me laugh and others just made me angry. What is up with Indian cinema that creates strong female characters and then reduce them to a sex object for the man to lust over and save. And the hero's motivation was driven by lust. What a pathetic hero.

I hated Nan E and I hate this movie too.

Loved the Dandanakka Song. Everything else was a pain to watch. Wish they deleted the last 5 minutes of the movie and went with the "not-so-happy" ending.

Same feeling.. wonder how this movie got a HIT or Above average status??

36 Vayadhinile: An ok watch. The first 30 - 45 minutes were really good with characters establishment and a police investigation added to the curiosity. The president meeting scene failed to connect because of an unrealistic idea. Will a person's meeting with president garner this much of attention among public? After this episode, the movie lost its natural flow. Every scene look imposed with the central idea as women's empowerment and later the movie became preachy with a documentary feel. Jo was really good and her performance makes the movie enjoyable despite the flaws in the script.

Kaaka Muttai: The USP of the movie is the realism it portrays without being boring. The movie has beautifully written characters. The way, the director has brought out the selfish motives of the people is absolutely realistic. The performances of kids, their mom, their grandma were all superb. I liked the the way the events are interlinked echoing the truth, How a small desire of kids impact people from different walks of life and how each one tries to exploit this opportunity to their own self interest was really written and executed well.

Paapanasam: It's been a long time tamil film industry has created a tightly packed and gripping crime thriller that leaves you at the edge of the seat for most part of the movie's running time. The movie also breaks the notion that, to exhibit heroism, a hero should be larger than life and beat 100's of goons. The man whom you see here is a common man who has simple intentions and big brains and the use of his brains in a realistic way is what gets him applause from the audience. It was really a treat to see kamal in such a down to earth role and nellai slang. I felt, the cruelty in the police station scene could have been reduced. Jeetu Joseph can definitely take pride for creating such a script with no logic loopholes.

Purambooku: Before the start of the movie, I thought I am going to hate it but surprisingly the movie was good. The movie started very slowly but started to engage once the characters start evolving. By interval, the characters are clearly established with their motives. The movie has s p jananathan's signature moments of revolutionary dialogues, communism, nationalism etc., I felt Arya's character does not have the emotional connect ,because it never showcased, what he has done for the people. The movie is little dramatic with even the common prisoner mouthing revolutionary dialogues, but those small things did not hinder the entertainment it offered.

Starting few mins, idhukku dhaan ivlo build-upaa feeling.. CG is not that great..but poga poga screenplay arrests you throughout.. Interval block and Baahubali revelation are goose-bump moments.. Second half super.. especially the war sequence!! BGM is very good!! Casting is perefect!

Even though he made it rich.. usual build up for hero, item song ellam irukku.. but mannika koodaiya alavil ;)

Completely satisfied and kudos to Rajamouli!!

Bahubali - sorry, but I'm not impressed.

Of course Rajamouli should be congratulated for trying to achieve the grandeur of epic movies.

Maragathamani provided epic-worthy background music. Ramya Krishnan was awesome and so was Rana, the villain.

Watchable once but don't expect the earth to move. 😊

Story reminded me of Linga, with some bits of Adimai Penn thrown in. 😁

The sets reminded me of Sunway Lagoon. Heeheehee. 😂

As for the hero, he reminded me of our mass heroes.
All the dance moves are there including the ridiculous stunts and heroism that even our heroes have abandoned nowadays.

Battle scenes were quite ok except that I was half expecting Bhagavadgita in between (Karnan). 😀

Conclusion: my wish is for Tamil films not to compete with Hollywood but to concentrate on what they excel in - like in Papasanam or Kakkaa Muttai.

Samsara

Impatiently waiting for the Disc Samsara, I checked the making of the documentry over internet. I was sweetly surprised and glad that Sony digitalised it for 4K. So, 4K - remember Baahubali was promoted to be released in 4K (limited theatres), but no one took notice of it, leave alone talking about it. I was glad because I can watch Samsara on a Ultra HD (UHD) 4K : Curve 65" TV (mark Samsung). And below is the image taken by my partner with her mobile phone.

http://www.mayyam.com/talk/attachment.php?attachmentid=4267&d=1437140426

Samsara is nothing but a marvel. It has all inside - Nature, potraits, images & reality. Few presentations stings, but the whole product discusses non-narratively about life & lifelessness joining them both with beauty. The colors are original - a sample to those who show our Heroes Rose and Heroines Pink. There are few episodes in Africa which are strong and colorful. To start with, there is a volconic erruption sequence where you can see different shades of Black, White & Grey. Here is a solution for adjusting your screen's resolution. And for colors, there is a Monk doing a Sand Mandala. [Mexicomeat, this is my favourite sequence]. Between life & culture, images from deserts, isolated snags, floating rocks, cracked monuments and crystal landscape are inserted to amplify the happiness & horror we are living in. And slowly, but effectively Samsara introduces the agony that we ourselves create - consummation industry.

The early parts depict most fabulous moments of Nature & Culture and the later narrates the daily life. When the birth to baptisme are wonderfully pictured, the manufacturing of an electric iron press is detailed right from screwing to covering. Tribes living in colony, grinding their day-to-day food, is inbalanced with mass meat production. So on and so forth, signing off with the 1000 Hand Dance, which makes sense to every single image and the title of the documentary.

The parts of Ladak Monastery and Indonesian palaces were extremely live. The European architecture, notably the French ones - Palace of Versaille, Mount of St.Michel, Church of Saint-Sulpice - are covered through different movemental angles. Mecca & tour of Saudi Arabia were breathtaking. And all the portfoilios with such a zoom close up are crystal clear that the debris in the dress are visible. The humanoids were cool. There is this Japanese Anime Girl whose one strand of hair flies near her ear which is illuminated by the sunlight from behind. Thats the summary of crispness present throughout the footage. Being a Horror Genre Fan, I enjoyed a lot the Mono Acting of an artist who enacts the scenes of gore. There exists several make-up/edit techniques which does not use computers to enhance their picture. This artist (think he is using Argile), takes the clay and disguises himself to produce grusome faces and horrors of being multifaced. There are many such little suprises in its runtime of 1h40m.

Few behind scenes : Shot in 70mm on Kodak film with Panaroma Super 70. Ron Fricke shoots & edits the documentry with his producer and co-partner Mark Magidson. The initial digitalised size of the footage was 20 Tera Bytes. Sony took care of the processing it to 4K resolution, also registered the OST & sound in Dolby 7.1. Further more details are present on the Disc with various audio-visual options to choose from.

Samsara - The Beauty Within

I once again thank Mexicomeat for this fabulous recomendation.

This weekend will watch Bakara, and will wait patiently for Baahubali Disc Version on 4K resolution.

Indru Netru Naalai - Excellent movie with an intelligent screenplay, appropriate actors and good humour. Especially, I liked the performances of both puli and parthasarathy. The music was a great match to the movie's tone. I think what works for the movie is the application of time travel concept to a simple plot.

The concept of time travel raises few questions. Vishnu and Karunakaran is aware of the fact that because of the disturbance to the past events, the future is recreated but what about others? For example, Using the device, they are able to seize the stolen jewels from the thiefs and return it back to the owners. In the mean time, what if the thiefs have sold the jewels? Will the jewels disappear magically? As per the standard event, the police who killed kozhandai would be alive in the present but since the events were again disturbed, the police man is no more. So, in the present, will the police man would get vanished off suddenly? what would his family members think of it?

Puli and vishnu forget the past events and so no confusion in their life but what about others such as vishnu's girl friend and her family. Will they experience two realities?

yagavarayinum naa kaakka: Good plot spoiled by directors obsession to create a commercial potboiler with cliches through out the movie. The 15 - 20 minutes block after intermission is the only high point of the movie. This 15 - 20 mts session is completely realistic with great intensity. Rest of the movie is just an average watch.

If director has given a different treatment to this plot with no commercial elements thrown into it, the movie would have been terrific...

Maari - hated the movie.

positives:
1. robo shankar and the first half had some funny scenes
2. thara local was picturised well

negatives:
1. everything else - where do i start. vijay jesudas was a complete misfit and he has no talents what so ever. it was as unfitting as watching a sambhar like gemini ganesan in a don role.

2. anirudh - he sings all his songs and now he is showing his ugly face in all movies. imagine what more he would have done if he were good looking.

3. direction - director tried to emulate aadukalam. like how the mediocre director saran used to force some setting into the movie (like mla hostel in jay-jay, bus in parthein rasithein, mess in kadhal mannan etc) the director tried to use pigeons and failed miserably.

4. unnecessary buildup - when i watch movies like "thirumalai, billa, thirupachi, sivakasi, attagasam, osthi" etc.... i usually feel very irritated with the unnecessary build up for the heroes. i hated all of the above movies. maari was no exception. given that most of the movies i have listed here were superhits, i think maari will become a hit as well.

thank god, in the end they didn't say that maari was an IPS officer in disguise.

Surajs hit ratio is: Thalanagaram and Marudhamalai and Padikkaathavan (heavily promoted by SUN TV)

Actor Sathyaraj said in recent interview that if you wanna be in the field you need to update yourself. I think directors like Suraaj, Sakthi Chidambaran, A. Venkatesh are not that kind. More directors fit in the category I cant think of any one else at moment. Feel free to add the directors you think make outdated movies these days.

Orange Mittai [2015 : Tamil : Melodrama : 100 mins]
Written & Directed by Biju Viswanath

Starring : Vijay Sethupathy, Ramesh Thilak & Arumughan.

Before going for the movie, I convinced myself that I am going to watch a melodrama, not my favourite genre, but one just can't ignore Vijay Sethupathi. And I was pleasantly suprised how the drama was handled by the writer & director Biju Viswanath. There was not a single dramatic sobing with fake tears, but Biju projects a hyper sensitive relationship is a positive manner. The Trio who are present in the movie are natural, so are the few other supporting characters. A simple story of a young man, still recovering from the demise of his father, meets up with a stranger during a medical emergency cirucumstance. Here, the young man is juggling with his personel and professional life, where as the aged patient is just profiting his unmerry life amoung the crowd until it lasts. At a point they both break down and realise a commonness between them - in search of affection, someone to hold on to, anyone who could just listen. These 2 mixed personalities mix together, just like the films title.

The immediate thought I got after watching the movie was that it should have been a Tele-Film. And Vijay Sethupathi, eventhough appreciating his attempts, should start hearing to larger works meant purely for feature films. Biju Viswanath struggle to get Orange Mittai above a short film and even better than a documentary is clearly visible, as the content for which it has been scripted is not for a full length feature film. Eventhough its in an Arthouse format, it does not gather enough elements. An immediate exemple that comes to my mind is Veedu. In Orange Mittai, the elements that are thrown in are not so vital to the film, except for the begining and the ending. For instance, the scenes are long, it was like they were still in an audition. The 2 major characters dont get involved at all, except during the last few minutes which was simply superb.

Original Music Score by Justin Prabhakaran is outstanding. The scene where they 2 walk through rough paths to reach the home of the patient was neatly scored. And there is a lot of tiny tickling moment throughout the film. The guy with suicidal ideation was funny and has cleverly performed his role. There is fluency is both picturing and rendering the film within its chosen runtime. I liked Kailasam, the aged patient played by Vijay Sethupathi. The tiny mischiefs are great to watch, and there comes a point where he does not utter anything, but just looks. The connection he makes with the audience is tremendrous. There are several scenes I liked in the movie - with the inspector, the doctor, with driver Arumugam (played awesomely by artist Arumughan), and esp. the hug from Sathya (enacted by Ramesh Thilak - hats off). But the dance from the promo was a disappointment but suceeds when Kailasam smiles at the cresant moon.

Question : Does the supervisors's voice belong to Bobby Simha ?

If you choose to watch Orange Mittai, please try also the french movie 'Hippocrate' directed by Thomas Lilti. Its got the same medical theme, but completely different from Orange Mittai.

I would recomend Orange Mittai to all drama movie lovers, who had seen enough of whining on the screen. This film will be a different experience.

If you like different fare from the usual, you will enjoy this movie.
No heroine, songs, fights or other corny stuff. No real story either.
There are no flashbacks to explain why the lead characters behave the way they do.
More than Vijay Sethupathi, this is a platform for Ramesh Thilak to perform and what a performance it is!
Laid back but nevertheless very interesting. Just 2 hours and it will get your attention throughout.

I'm a fan of the series Balajee. Have enjoyed all previous ones. Tom Cruise has aged but he isn't slowing down.

Of course there are a lot of cinematic stuff but because of the pace, you won't realise or bother about them.

Son of Satyamoorthy (telugu) - uninteresting family drama

Huge cast (Allu Arjun, Upendra, Samantha, Nitya Menon, Sneha, Prakashraj, Sampath etc.)

Great dissapointment, the director totally messed it up.

Transcendence - I caught this running on some channel this sunday and am quitely surprised that this movie wasn't a hit that it deserved. I overlooked it when it was originally released as critics were pawning it left right center but amused by the quality of this movie. this is one elegant movie both on emotional front and on physiological front and my recent time favorite rebacca hall did a fantastic job. (offtopic: there's something about her that fascinates me more am so infatuated to her and her selection of movies only getting stronger, first movie i saw of her "the town" only recently another great film. Affleck's direction was best and in tamil if i have to compare him with someone i would say director "Kathir" not a great fan of him but his direction and visionary are always poetry. there's always this poetic feel to every scene he captures in films). the only negative on the film is as usual kate mara who i dislike with my whole heart (may be house of cards effect) and have seen her dying scene in house of cards multiple times weirdly that's how much i dislike her :-)

Few Santhanam comedies were OK. Otherwise its a strictly avoidable film, even if u r planning to watch it online.

Don't know why some directors refuse to try making films out of their comfort zone. If you suddenly tell me a scene from a Rajesh movie and ask which movie it is from, I will surely stumble. Same TASMAC comedy, making fun of appearances of women, same kind of mother characters, another hero's cameo, etc. Please change, Mr Rajesh. Else, this may be your last film

- hindu

- VIKATAN
