It’s confirmed, Yuvan to join Kamal Haasan

Media had been talking about it for some time now and it’s now confirmed- Yuvan signs a movie with Kamal Haasan. The composer will be teaming up with the Vishwaroopam man for Uthama Villain.

When the producer of the film, Lingusamy asked Kamal if they could rope in Yuvan Shankar Raja for the music, Kamal Haasan had supposedly said that working with Yuvan would complete the circle, considering his earlier tie ups with Ilayaraja and Karthik Raja. Meanwhile, Crazy Mohan will be working on the story and dialogues.

Kamal Haasan's Facebook Revolution

Kamal Haasan joined the ranks of the few celebrities in India to have a verified account on FB. Kamal's account, that recently touched about 6 lakhs fans, is a prolific one that gives periodic updates about Kamal's whereabouts and activities. The verification is an authentication provided by Facebook to endorse that an account of a celebrity is indeed original.

Of the other South Indian stars whose accounts are verified by FB, Mohanlal is prominent. It must be noted that Kamal's account is maintained by Mayyam, managers of his online presence.

A few weeks back, there were rumors that Kamal Haasan had joined Twitter and 'netizens' were mighty excited and were following this account at a record pace. But soon enough it turned out to be a fake poser and this account was quickly taken out.

I was just wondering what role Kamal might have played to kick start this project. You and Anban seem to have up-to-date (good) inside infos on Andavar. So just wanted to ask.

EDIT : I think Kamal has no role in kick starting the project (to be confirmed); but the film maker was inspired by him to enter into the celluloid world !
I let anyone to look into it, if possible.

I think, 'Alavanthaan' was produced based on this short story 'Thaayam' written by Kamal.


I have not read Thaayam (never heard of it - post the series if possible please) - but I would like to highlight a (well known) work "The Diary of Anne Frank" which could have been used as a reference material for Alavanthaan - The Dairy naration part + childhood (in the book its about sisters) + addressing the dairy + hatered - are quite similar.

The Diary of Anne Frank is a very good read if you are interested in War / Sociologic subjects.

Kamal Haasan is ready with some new scripts, which he claims are more viable all over India than his last film, Vishwaroopam. The actor-filmmaker had taken a huge risk with the film, even mortgaging his house to finance it. Now, he intends to make films in Tamil as well as Hindi. “We are ready with many scripts and are looking for the right kind of producers who can take the films up north. I can’t take risks all the time,” says Kamal.

Having realised the importance of marketing a film, in addition to appealing content, he says, “Now marketing is as crucial and difficult as film-making, if not more. I want someone who can do that properly, otherwise I can’t make those films.” Thankfully, the mortgage for the house has been paid off after the success of Vishwaroopam, but Kamal isn’t relaxing just yet. “I can’t say I’m a rich man now. Some people took advantage of the situation and made lots of money, and I’m glad about that,” he says.

Reportedly, his Ek Duuje Ke Liye (1981) co-star, Rati Agnihotri, is vying for the rights to remake the film with her son Tanuj Virwani. Although unaware of this, Kamal says that he has no issues with the remake, but he wouldn’t want to star in it. “We did try making a sequel, but it never came to north India. Now I’m old and can’t play the role again,” he says. “K Balachander (director), who is my mentor, didn’t want to tamper with the original, but I thought of a sequel. We made it in Tamil, but it never got made in Hindi. Now, it’s too late.”

It shows clearly that he has not profited much -- towards the end with so many issues/problems, he could have sold the film for less than the initial estimated amount. The movie was essentially ready around August and the delays caused initially by the prolonged negotiations and later by many unforseen issues must have impacted his take, although there were other beneficiaries.

Firstly, Kamal can only draw comparison or mention or talk about/with Rajini, as from his "peak" there is only 1 other neighboring mountain in sight.

Secondly, any "successful" actor will have the similar logic like BeforeChrist (BC) and AfterDeath (AD). For Kamal and Rajini "Sakalakala Vallavan" & "Murattu Kalai" serve to be the ones respectively. To brings other actors into comparison - Vikarm : Sethu ; Ajith : Dheena ; Surya : Nanadha etc., Whether these movies did good or bad is not the question, from this point they stopped using stairs and got into the escalator directly. As I have mentioned before, there are indicators in the movies which allow you to recollect a particular scene which eventually (refreshes your memory) summerises the whole film. Similarly "Naan Thaan Sakala Kala Vallavan" & "Podhuvaga Yen Manasu Thangam" are the the primary indicators while referring to their mammoth carrier success.

My personal experience : I was "open-jawed" when Kamal came swinging with his glitering costumes. And I failed to appreciate it then (remember : Rajini Pudikuma / Kamal Pudikuma), but later I concluded that, its one of the finely done songs. And Murattu Kalai, if anyone says he did not become quite "stiff" and "pride" while watching "Podhuvaga Yen Manasu Thangam", he really needs to consult a doctor. That's the impact these 2 songs Had/Have, even though we get to see fabulous visuals and new sound in Vishwa or Endhiran : old wine is incomparable.

So, Kamal had mentioned these 2 movies, and with the magic touch of Vaali (AVM, IR, SP Muthuraman & others), gained them new heights and stamped their "stay" in TFI. (and for Rajini you have to add Kamal before "Others")

In that case, its normal too. He did not boost anything, he just mentioned that he brought in his poems for correction/verification/advice/suggestion, which is quite a healthy summary. Having knowledge in any given department, I think he would tell similar things when addressing about a director, that he had consulted his script with that person.

I think, its actually the best way to project someone, when you have (personally and professionally) shared the work with them. You lay before hard facts - and this time its poems.

நான் ஈ நாயகன் நானிக்கு, தன் ஆதர்ச நடிகர் கமல்ஹாஸனைச் சந்திக்க வேண்டும் என்று சிறுவனாக இருக்கும் போதிலிருந்தே ஆசை. ஆனால் சந்தர்ப்பம் அமையவில்லை. நானி ஒரு நடிகராக உருவான பிறகு, தனது ரோல்மாடலாக நினைத்தது கமல்ஹாஸனைத்தான். அப்போதும் கூட கமலைச் சந்திக்கும் வாய்ப்பு நானிக்கு அமையவில்லை.

இரண்டாயிரத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்ட திரைப்பட கலைஞர்கள் இதில் பங்கேற்க உள்ளதாக இந்திய சினிமா நூற்றாண்டு விழாக்குழு தலைவர் கல்யாண் தெரிவித்தார். சினிமா நூற்றாண்டு விழாவையொட்டி செப்டம்பர் 18–ந்தேதி முதல் 24–ந்தேதி வரை படப்பிடிப்புகள் ரத்து செய்யப்படுகின்றன.

இந்த ஒரு வாரமும் சென்னையில் உள்ள அனைத்து தியேட்டர்களிலும் 1940, 50 மற்றும் 60களில் வெளியான பழைய படங்களை திரையிடும்படி கேட்டுக் கொள்ளப்படும் என்று திரைப்பட வர்த்தக சபை செயலாளர் எல்.சுரேஷ் தெரிவித்தார்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். நடித்த உலகம் சுற்றும் வாலிபன், குடியிருந்த கோவில், எங்க வீட்டு பிள்ளை, உரிமைக்குரல், நினைத்ததை முடிப்பவன், படகோட்டி உள்ளிட்ட படங்களும், சிவாஜி நடித்த வசந்தமாளிகை, தங்கபதக்கம், கவுரவம், திரிசூலம், கர்ணன் உள்ளிட்ட படங்களும் திரையிடப்பட உள்ளது. ரஜினியின் அண்ணாமலை, படையப்பா, வேலைக்காரன், மனிதன், ஆறில் இருந்து அறுபது வரை, ராஜா சின்ன ரோஜா போன்ற படங்களும், கமலின் சகலகலா வல்லவன், அபூர்வ சகோதரர்கள், சிவப்பு ரோஜாக்கள், ரஜினியும் கமலும் இணைந்து நடித்த 16 வயதினிலே, நினைத்தாலே இனிக்கும், அபூர்வ ராகங்கள், இளமை ஊஞ்சலாடுகிறது படங்களும் திரையிட உள்ளன.

When Kamal did the animation action sequence in Alavandhaan 13 years ago, it was seen as self-indulgent and odd by a lot of people. Recently Alavandhaan has been appreciated and endorsed by Quentin Tarantino, a filmmaker of such brilliance.
Kamal should have done such movie now.

At that time I used to watch many Foreign films, so it was a cake walk for me, but the people with whom I watched, the first thing they told was the bloody face of Kamal and his tatoos. They even went on comparing it with Kuridhi Punal in all wrong ways possible - its actualy nothing to do with it and if they brought it Red Rose or 3tik, I would have engaged in the discuession with them ... Madhan was not at all hero in MMKR, only Raju was, so Madhan can afford to be konjam dumb, but Major Vijaykumar is a hero pitted against a powerful villain Nandhu....so his scenes should have been equally power packed :) IMHO

can easily relate the responsibility he has when he says "kandippa edhavadhu seiven yaa" to the scene where he replies gouthami - whom do you really love - "indha chinna thoovaloora"...

fabulous screenplay. There has been instances all through the movie that makes us feel that he belonged to the roots (thoovalur) and not to the urban restaurant chain such as proudly lifting the collar standing behind his dad, getting into the kambu fight, wishing to marry his girl in his ancestral temple...

in just under 3 min, the screenwriter tells us multiple things abt what is unfolding using cues and motifs linking one thing to another - brilliant scriptwriting!

Well one could argue that he's lost a lot of subtlety in his recent efforts . But who give's a damn.

to be fair to KH, much of our audience(s) is not literate enough to understand several of his screenplay nuances despite the fact that screenplay experts such as Nihalini, Bhagyaraj et al have already groomed our collective 'nuance' appreciative skills.

I have a friend in Bangalore who once tried to lull me into a debate about how the screenplay of 'Deewar' is the best ever in indian cinema - EKSI and ROTFL!

for KH to cater to a wide spectrum of ppl ranging from 'deewar is the greatest story ever told' to makkals who look only for flaws in his films - its a merciless task! and he has managed to do that quite well so far

Kamal Hassan Coming Back To Tollywood With N Shankar's Next

Tamil actor Kamal Hassan, who was last seen with Venkatesh in Eenadu in 2009, is all set to comeback to Tollywood. The veteran actor, who gained a fan following in AP in the 80s and 90s with Sagara Sangamam and Swathi Muthyam, will be seen Telugu director N Shankar's upcoming film. The Jai Bolo Telangana helmer, who confirmed the news, is so much excited about casting him that he could not stop praising him.

In a chat to an English daily, N Shankar has revealed that he has recently approached Kamal Hassan with an interesting story, which impress the actor, who gave his consent for the film besides offering a few suggestions to the director. Kamal Hassan is currently busy with the shooting of Vishwaroopam 2. After completing this project, the actor will allot his dates for Shankar's next directorial venture.

Kamal-Shankar's combo project will be a bilingual film, which will be simultaneously made in Telugu and Tamil. The yet-to-be titled movie is said to be made with a whopping budget of Rs 60 crore. The director says that the actor is "an encyclopedia of cinema". Kamal Hassan will reprise a totally different role, which he has never played before in his illustrious four-decade-old career.

According to Shankar, it will be a realistic action adventure film, which is touted to be an urban-centric entertainer with a love story. "We blended a love angle into our script and are looking for a suitable heroine. We will finalise other roles once he allots the dates," Deccan Chronicle quotes the director as saying.

தம்பிகளா! Kamal's core field is acting and film writing. When it comes to technology, singing, perfection etc, there are other greats too though, most of them are from a generation inspired from him. But Raja, as a composer, its impossible to fit him ONLY within Cinema and see him as a talent. He is surely among, may be top 3 greats of all time, in indian music scenario, not just cinema. So atleast for Raja's part, i don't think its wrong to say ONLY Genius, since there is absolutely no body comparable to him. Also, all the other legends whu could be in that top 3 are mostly Amarar!

That apart, i guess, this poll is not going to add any pride for ARR/Rajni too. Becos its nothing for national pride when Dastard NDTV attains 25 years of Media presence.

Kamal and Suriya in Tollywood Next

Back in the 80s and early 90s, Kamal Hassan had a huge demand in Tollywood, which might have sustained, had he done more movies in Telugu, like his 'Sagara Sangamam', 'Swathi Mutyam' and 'Indrudu Chandrudu'. But the trend is coming back, as Ulaganayagan has given a nod to director Shankar of 'Jai Bol Telangana' fame.

Sources close to the actor say that Kamal was impressed by Shankar's one liner which drove him to accept the role in the upcoming movie. Yet another interesting news from the neighbouring woods is that following his huge fan base among Telugu audience, actor Suriya is doing a direct Telugu film. Suriya was disappointed that he had missed the chance to act in Puri Jaganath's 'Businessman', but looks like the two will join hands for another project soon. The actor nods that talks are on, but refuses to divulge any further information. Should the project go through, then Suriya's market value will improve drastically. Adding to the Kollywood-Tollywood shuffling, last night, Telugu actor Gopichand has gotten committed for a direct Tamil film, along with Nayanthara. Wise were the men who said art and entertainment do not have language barriers.

While I agree that the term legend has lost its charm and has been overused a lot recently, it is tough to see Kamal as anything but a legend. His works across a 50 year career and the way the current generation of actors, writers and film makers look up to him as an inspiration are testimony to that.
