one of the biggest movie events of the year was unveiled for the public’s viewing pleasure today morning. Arrambam, directed by Vishnuvardhan, has a lot going for it and has it satiated the appetite of countless Ajith fanatics?

Right from frame one, it is clear that Ashok Kumar (Ajith) is a man on a mission and one who is hell bent on exposing the people behind an ugly scam and bringing them to book. He has his comrades who will go to any lengths for him and help him in his operation.

Director Vishnuvardhan, writer duo Subha and editor Sreekar Prasad have to be commended for managing to keep the audiences hooked to their seats for a majority of the movie with very few drag moments. With a running time of more than two and a half hours, the screenplay is taut and crisp enough to keep the crowd arrested.

The large mass of Ajith fans have plenty of moments to scream and whistle in delight. Ajith’s screen presence is mighty as ever, and his classy salt and pepper looks and V neck T shirts suit his character’s mean streak. The star’s prowess at stunts and his knack of taking risks for the stunt scenes is all too well-known and when he dives out of a van onto an approaching car and zooms around in a Ducati, the entire crowd rises in unison to clap. Even some of Ajith’s subtle gestures, his gait and his typical shades delight his fans.

Arya is energetic and spunky as ever and has done his part well. Watch out for a little part where Arya will throw you off your seats with his appearance. His light-hearted comments at apt moments bring about a few chuckles. Taapsee is referred to as the ‘drama queen’ and she is sure to make a few hearts melt as the girly journalist. Nayanthara puts on a fiery face when required and also showcases her oomph and style in many scenes. This superstar continues to shine. Kishore as the honest cop is earnest as ever while Mahesh Manjrekar’s histrionics are a welcome introduction to Tamil audiences.

Rana’s portion in the second half is a highlight and there is one arresting sequence featuring him and Ajith, which is sure to grip the audiences. Great work on this segment particularly.

Among the movie’s few slack moments include the ‘Stylish Thamizhachi’ number featuring Akshara Gowda. The ‘Adada Arrambame’ number, though a crowd pleaser and flamboyantly picturized, stands out a bit sorely at the start. ‘Melala Vedikkudhu’ takes the cake as the best song sequence and it’s a riot of colours and revelry as the actors dance merrily for Holi. ‘Hare Rama’ isn’t to be seen in the movie. Arya and Taapsee feature in 'En Fuse Pochu' and few nice effects embellish the song.

Yuvan’s work on the BGM doesn’t demand your attention as much as it did in Mankatha and Billa. But still, he has added enough muscle to the tension and action in the movie with his score. Om Prakash’s work on the camera befits the movie’s stature as a slick and glossy commercial action entertainer.

The stunt choreographers, Jegan, Kecha and Lee Whittaker, take the credit for the numerous action set pieces and it is slam bam all the way. The climax sequence and the boat chase are racy.

Being a commercial movie, you have to suspend disbelief and not look for too much logic and reasoning. There are a few sudden jumps in the movie’s flow and its better not to question them too much, and just enjoy the bond type commercial offering from Ajith.

Kudos to the Arrambam team for managing to live up to the Himalayan hype with an action flick which packs enough punch.
Verdict: Let’s make this simple ... Arrambam has enough in it to be enjoyed this Diwali !

This time it is Thala Diwali, with Ajith sizzling the screen with Aarambam! He has good support with Arya, Nayan, Rana, Tapsee and a horde of cast. Aarambam is a flick where style meets action in a predicted way trying to make it big counting on Ajith's tremendous performance. The story in limelight is the usual Old wine in new bottle and as always the presentation counts and that has made all the difference.

Vishnu and Subha have come up with rather a done and dusted storyline, but as usual the screenplay is the key. Few of the scenes move snail paced but when you watch it as a whole the pace is strong and swift. Yuvan's music is trend setting and he gives a fitting BGM for the style soaked movie, the songs are superbly carved. And the visuals by Om Prakash is a wonder too, the songs, the action sequences all seem to be uplifted with a chic feel.

Ergo, a movie that Ajith fans would love to watch it all over again and if you are not an Ajith fan you would love it for the style and screenplay!

Ajith's 'Arrambam' arrives!

Finally, Ajith’s most eagerly awaited Arrambam has opened worldwide from today (Oct 31). The first location to hold premier show was in Sri Lanka where it started on Wednesday evening followed by Malaysia and other far eastern locations.

In India the first shows started in Tamil Nadu, the Ajith heartland with early morning shows from as early as 5 am shows. The digital key to the content was opened for the screens a little earlier


There were huge celebrations and fireworks early in the morning mostly in interior Tamil Nadu. As per unconfirmed sources the film has opened in a record number of screens in Tamil Nadu , and will hold for two days. Popular screens like Kasi and Albert in Chennai city are showing the film.

Arrambam is opening in a record 303 screens in the overseas market, and it will be Ajith’s biggest ever release. In Kerala too Arrambam is releasing in over 100 screens. In short Arrambam is going to take an earth shaking opening

Plot: A man takes on to terrorism to inflict pain on a minister & his accomplices. He uses mean ways to persuade a hacker & forces him to provide more than a handful in his mission. The smart hacker tries his best to alert the police of the terrorist & later, through a gruesome flashback, he is made to realise that the man's acts were all to fight against a corrupt political system. Will he joins forces to help the mission get accomplished or does he play it safe?!

What Works?
Ajith Kumar, slowly but surely, is trying to redefine the lexicon that exists for commercial heroes in Tamil Cinema. With his arresting presence, fierceful body language, stylish demeanour & risky stunts, he proves there is no need for heroes to go around loud-mouthing punches & dancing around trees in duets; This is the 3rd consecutive film he has skipped those rituals & with Arrambam, has made it work in two! Arya provides a nice foil with his quirky mannerisms & funny one-liners.
It is 2/2 for Nayanthara since her comeback & the Arya/Tapsee pairing surprises us in being refreshing, thanks to Vishnu's treatment!
Vishnuvardhan's stylish presentation shows itself up in a number of places, combining well with Om Prakash's camerawork & Veteran editor Sreekar Prasad's slick editing!
Subha, in spite of coming up with a story beaten to death in Tamil Cinema, offer some crisp dialogues reminding us of Sujatha (reminding & not filling his shoes).
The stunts are the other major highlights of this film & in providing engaging fight sequences (including an impactful one involving Ajith & Rana Daggubati), Lee Whitaker deserves a worthy mention.
Yuvan's songs have been picturised with some nice creativity.

Arrambam has its flaws but a refreshing first half, a slick flashback & Ajith's overwhelming presence make this click!

First things first- Arrambam lives up to the expectations and is a satisfying thrill ride for its variety in providing no-holds barred entertainment. Ajith’ terrific screen presence and powerful dialogue delivery, smart writing, charismatic cast and action which is fast-paced are smartly packaged by director Vishnuvardhan.

For years, Tamil movies have drilled the same conservative plot of the corrupt politicians and police nexus and a hero who rises up to take revenge and clean up the system. Vishnuvardhan’s Arrambam follows the same template, in his own style of film making and it works. Like an expert tailor he has woven his revenge drama to suit Ajith’s larger-than-life image.

Vishnuvardhan and his writers Subha have worked out a decent screenplay which keeps the audiences hooked. And editor Sreekar Prasad’s has made it fast paced. Technically it is a well-made film with stylish camera work of Om Prakash and some superbly choreographed action scenes. The Ajith-Rana combo attacking the terrorist hide out scene is one of the highlights of the film along with mass action scenes in Dubai.

On the downside, the film's plot is predictable and none of the songs tuned by Yuvan Shankar Raja is hummable nor stays in your mind. But these are small nitpickings in an otherwise engaging action thriller that's well mounted, and delivers enough for your money.

The acting is top notch from everyone involved. Ajith himself gives a low-key, well-nuanced performance as Ashok, the conscience of this film; Arya is superb as the happy-go-lucky Arjun and his comedy scene in college with Nayan is a rocker. The pairing of opposites Ajith and Arya and the casting of the other characters, Nayanthara, Mahesh Manjrekar, Taapsee is also spot on

Nayanthara is there throughout the film and she has some fine moments which she has scored big time. Her costumes, inimitable attitude and style makes us feel that no other actress could carry the role of Maya with dignity and elan. Taapsee is cute as Anitha, while Kishore as the straightforward cop on a mission is convincing. Mahesh Majrekar, Suman Ranganathan and Atul Kulkarni get a few moments to make an impression.

Arrambam is far from perfect, but as pulpy Kollywood action films go, it's very watchable and works to its strengths. It's worth a watch this Diwali; you won't be bored.

Watched Aarambam yesterday.....

Watch it for
a. Ajith (Esp the scene where he is arrested @ his house and when he walks out oru police officer will try to hold him, the look he gives, athukku aprum wearing coolers with Yuvan BGM was good...)
b. Interesting block of Rana and Ajith.... very nicely shot and crisply edited...
c. Arya - Coolers avukka solrala... single teaku kaasu illama valichiduren :) he is better in these kind of roles than full fledged hero....
d. Nayanthara - No one can do justice to this role other than her....
e. Tapsee - enakku pudikale...

கூட்டத்தோடு கூட்டமாக சில சினிமா பிரபலங்களும் படம் பார்க்க வந்ததை காணக்கூடியதாக இருந்தது. சிம்பு, டாப்சி, தயாரிப்பாளர் ஞானவேல் ராஜா, டைரக்டர் ராஜேஷ் உட்பட சிலர் தியேட்டர் பக்கம் தென்பட்டனர்.

Seeing all the pics of Ajith fans going frenzy and huge cut outs... fans are fans.. they are on their own...
rasigar mandram, mandra thalaivar, seiyalaalar, vatta thalaivar.. etc all are useless.. unless the actor wants to use the fans for his cause.

I went to movie with a doubt as i already got negative feedback.. but it turn to be a good one. Should say Vishnu packaged it very well..

okay. Does anybody care to think one step forward and do some OR? Well, let us all take only the 490 shows for the first day in Chennai and suburbs alone. If we take a theatre shows 4 shows per day then the movie has already crossed 100 days in fact it is 122 days. And going by the total weekend shows, if it is more than 1000 shows, let us keep it at only 1000 shows for our easy calculation, the movie easily has passed 250 days.

Everybody say thala pola varumaa...coz this can be achieved only by our thala and no other actor of his generation can come and touch his dust from his feet i.e. Thala kaal thoosi alavukku kooda varamaatanga...

Its a slick action movie with shades of hollywood movies like Sword Fish, Ghost protocol, Dark knight few which came to my mind. Movie is definitely entertaining. But was kinda disappointed with the main plot , expected little better story line. They could have cut couple of songs and explained the story little better, Commercial quotient over took essence of the movie in few places. Scenes leading up to climax and climax itself could have been better.Hostage exchange scene :banghead:

Ajith sir fans can rejoice this entertainer more than once, for rest " Keep it simple " watch it atleast once for Ajith sir's show.

Oh yeah .. WAY BETTER THAN BILLA 2.

Early ‘Arrambam’ for Thala fans on day one

The ‘illegal’ early morning shows for Ajith’s much-hyped Arrambam were set to begin at 6 am. But, for fans of the actor, the day began much earlier – at 4 am. At three theatres in the suburbs, where ‘rasigar mandram’ tickets had been sold for up to Rs 800, the cut-outs of the actor were adorned with flowers.

“Thala had asked us not to do all this and stop acting as a fan club, but we cannot help doing it. This is our duty,” said Ilancheliyan, erstwhile secretary of the Thirumullaivoyal Thala Ajith Narpani Mandram.

As expected, the milk and beer abhishekhams on the large banners and cut-out silhouettes of Ajith were dispensed with by 5.45 am and the shows began. Fans were most boisterous at the Rakki theatre complex in Ambattur, Sundar theatre in Poonamallee and the Kasi theatre complex. And all of this euphoria continued throughout the day even as the producer’s office was raided by the I-T department.

What surprised film-goers who watched Arrambam first-day-first-show, was the rebirth of the ‘repeat song’ request from fans. “Except for Rajini films, fans don’t really ask for songs to be repeated. This did not happen even when Enthiran released. But today, at Kasi theatre’s noon show, one song was repeated on demand,” said Kannan, who lives in KK Nagar.

Besides this, he added that fans were dancing in the aisles, in front of the screen and even throwing flowers and confetti every time Ajith appeared on screen.

Released two days before the other Deepavali films and the festival itself, Arrambam is the sole movie running in multiplexes like Mayajaal and AGS, with over 100 shows being screened till the weekend. Even as online ticketing opened for Monday, tickets are quickly being sold out, according to theatre sources.

Arrambam First Day Collections At Box Office

Ajith Kumar has proved once again that he is the King of Tamil Box Office. His latest movie Arrambam was released on Thursday (October 31) and it has made stunning collections on the opening day. Trader had expected the movie to do wonders at ticket counters with its advance booking taking a massive response by the Thala fans.

The credit for making the movie such a hit on the first day will undoubtedly goes to Ajith Kumar's fans. Not only they thronged into theatres on the first day but also they ensured to publicise the film at every other platforms. Their craze has turned out to be a huge blessing for Arrambam, as the film has got a thunderous opening at the Tamil Box Office.

The response for Arrambam has brought huge smiles on the faces of the makers of Arrambam. As per the trade sources, the Tamil movie now stands next to Rajinikanth's Endhiran when it comes to the first day collections at the Tamil Box Office. Watched the movie. First things first only Ajith could have pulled this off. Only Ajith.

Wonderful performance by Thala and Om Prakash. The first half a little after the flashback scene really kept us engaged. The Dubai portion was a little dragging. Rana was awesome. Arya and Nayan we're adequate. Neatly done. Loved the Melala song and visuals. A few punches that Thala delivers is out of the world with class " evolo than technology develop ayiruthalum kadaisila Kai naatu than" " née evolo time vena eduthuko Ana avaluku 10 nimishum than"

Also A lot of efforts we're put in for technical explanations like firewall, servers, and OS. Dialogues are worth a mention and the way Thala delivers the dialogues with fluent English was awesome. His Hindi was also pretty adequate.

Now the negatives

None of the other songs impressed me except Melala and adadada aarrambame to an extent. BG score was a letdown in many places. Too much guns and a little lengthy second half and a few illogical scenes.

Vishnu has packaged an all round entertainer. Had he concentrated a little towards the second half the movie would have been an awesome entertainer, nevertheless it was worth the wait. I am impressed.

BTW I also think Thala should seriously consider working with other MDs in future rather than sticking to U1. This is the weakest Vishnu U1 combo IMO.

Watched last night(Taken by surprise that my uncle had a ticket last night)..Theatre was easily 70% occupied

All way Ajith show & Mass,Arya Fitted the role perfectly(Many claps for most of hist dialogue) if at all they Arrambam II they can make his charecter more intresting and Nayanthara is good.Tapsee is just passable.

1st half esp last 30 - 45 mins is so gripping and the parallel scenes recieved more claps.2nd half is too good but will be marvelous if they were taken some carefull thought about logics. Cinematography & Editing was top notch.

The Big let down is BGM :Shocking: Yeah BGM never expected from Yuvan and that too in Ajith & Vishnu combo.

Will give a detailed review after a week or so

'Arrambam' mints Rs.9.21 crore on release day in TN

Chennai, Nov 2 (IANS) Ajith Kumar-starrer "Arrambam", which released Thursday, has registered a blockbuster opening of Rs.9.21 crore in Tamil Nadu on the first day. The festival weekend will help it mint more during the weekend, feel trade experts.

"This is the best opening for an Ajith film. The film has approximately collected Rs.9.21 crore on first day and is expected to finish the weekend on a high note. The overall buzz has been positive, and therefore, the film is expected to register a record weekend opening worldwide," trade analyst Trinath told IANS.

Reportedly made on a budget of Rs.60 crore, "Arrambam" had a solo release in record number of screens worldwide Thursday.

"We are expecting the worldwide opening weekend collection to touch Rs.20 crore. Since the response to the film all over has been very good, I think that number is not impossible. Today (Saturday) and tomorrow is going to very important as two other Tamil films are releasing," he added.

Also featuring Arya, Nayanthara, Rana Daggubati and Tapsee Pannu, "Arrambam" is the story of a man on a mission to avenge the death of his best friend.

Directed by Vishnuvardhan, the film was produced by Sri Satya Sai Movies.

The Telugu dubbed version of the film titled "Aata Arrambam" is slated to release Nov 21. The dubbing rights were reportedly sold for a whopping Rs.6 crore, the highest for an Ajith film.

it is the first teaser scene before they titled the film, Ajith replies to project tile.. "title innum vekkalai" ... but these dialogues are only for the teaser..

This is one of the dialogues that has got maximum claps and that too the way Thala delivers in casual way adds spice.

Regarding "Title Innum Vekkalai" dialogue I think team is well prepared to create hype in this way..

Saw the movie. Looks like tough luck continues for Ajith. Should try to refrain from -ve shades for a while...i feel it is not amusing anymore. Resemblance to some movies were evident but the screenplay lacks the intensity when needed, which could've compensated. First time U1's BGM fails for Ajith. Looks like he is clearly out of ammo these days.

I have seen the film once. I wanted to see it again but I am not getting tickets in the theatre nearby my home. . So just booked ticket for night show at 10

During the flashback portions with Rana . Ajith dialogue and his body language will be very cool ,talkative and dashing. I just want ajith to act in full length movie like that. It is really big plus for the movie

The negative parts is this movie reminds me of several movies: Swordfish, Indian, Die Hard 4.0, Narasimma.

The scene with the baby and the iron is unappreciatable, I wished they deleted that scene before release, just gives a bad taste. Did I pay to see that?

How come Ajith travels to Dubai after being arrested by police before? Still wondering

My favourite song in the movie has been totally destroyed , En fuse literally pochu.

I am looking forward to Ajiths next movie, Arambame Asathal.

Here in malaysia didnt get tickets in pavilion and finally watch in timesquare. Movie excellent on par with mankatha . - update from staffs who works in my father shop. Some of them ajith fans and most of them neutral fans. As i update earlier if not thor release arrambam will make huge profit in malaysia by screened in most of thx screens in big shopping complex but missing due to thor release!

Chennai, Nov 2 (TruthDive): Ajith’s “Arrambam” has made an extraordinary business in Tamil Nadu and Kerala box office on its opening day. The movie has collected approximately 10.30 crore on its day of release, thus becoming the best ever opening for Ajith.

Trade analyst Sreedhar pillai tweeted, “#Arrambam – Ajith’s best ever opening !TN = Rs 8.75 Cr, Kerala =0.75, Karnataka =0.60 , North=0.20. Total = Rs 10.30 Cr (Approx). Super”. This is one of the biggest openings for an Ajith film and the trade experts are predicting that the movie will turn out to be a blockbuster.

“Arrambam” was relased on October 31, Thursday. The movie had a wide release with the film being shown in more than 500 screens in Tamil Nadu. Traders were expecting a good run on the opening day of Arrambam and as expected, Ajith starrer lived up to the expectations and raked in good collections on the debut day.

The number of screens for the film will be declining from today (November 2) as two new Tamil films – Karthi’s “All in All Azhaguraja” and Vishal’s “Pandiya Nadu” are hitting the screens.

Arrambam has to face competition with both these films from its third day. And it has to be seen if “Arrambam” will be able to withstand its momentum during the opening weekend.

Ajith starrer has received great feedback from both the critics and the audience. So, trade experts strongly believe it is likely to continue its good run at the box office and give out a tough competition for the other two Deepavali releases.

Directed by Vishnuvardhan, the movie also has Arya, Nayanthara and Taapsee playing main characters, whereas Yuvan Sankar Raja has scored music for the film. Movie is produced by A. M. Rathnam.

Meantime, Hirthik Roshan’s Bollywood movie Krrish 3 was released on November 1. It was expected to do well in TN as there is a huge fan base for Hirthik in the state. But, Ajith Kumar’s Arrambam affected Krrish 3 at the box office in the state.

Watched movie 2nd time in Rakki evening show.....Surprise surprise found lot of family audiences and environment is energetic.This time found some more logical mistakes or they could have explained those clearly

I went with 4 friends 2 are ajith fans and other are nuetral fans..
- Reaction of fellow ajith fan when i pointed out logic missing in some scenes..."C'mon who gives a damn about logics watch out for Ajith's majic".
- Reaction of neutral fans if vishnu would have taken logic importantly then this movie would have been a cracker.Good for one time watch

I think they can make Arrambam as franchise with tight scripting instead of Billa(which gives no much room for scripting).

okay.. i'll post something very frankly.. yesterday watching few scenes from SINGAM-II... if Ajith does something like this.. it would be a real mass.. u can see a firepower performance.. instead of slo-motion walks & the repeated cooling glass adjustments...
with all these stylish films.. i think, he is moving out of common neutral audience & family audience... only the fans backing him as usual..

i've reduced my visits to theater.. last one is for Viswaroopam... only for Ajith & the hype i saw on 31st evening at Bangalore (easily u can get ticket because almost everyone will be travelling to TN for diwali).. as expected easily i got the ticket...

so, i'm in for an outright Ajith show.. & what does Vishnu is offering to me.. after introducing Ajith's character, he is bringing in almost 20 min flashback for Arya which includes a song.. hey.. who wants to see this fellow.. he is there in every tv channel.. i'm not interested & what happened to Ajith...
& not so interesting scenes follow along with Arya's unfunny lines (these would have been santhanam's lines in other film).. & in 2nd half, neenga yaru - avaru yaru theriyuma cliche & for most of 2nd half is not engaging.. just like that he comes in different styles (the same thing that u all loved as mass therikkum single stills) & shoots enemies & suddenly he drives a bike just to remind us Thala is a racer (during 80's ilaiya thilagam prabhu rides horse to show that he is trained in that)... & LOL climax of 70's.. exchange of people.. Arya calls him as chief, because if he says thala it might project as a local film... & Ajith says lengthy dialogue about scam, system (adhanga oozhal, lanjam, arasangam.. ahn) & his latest catch word fkng finds a space in those dialogues...

after seeing Aarambam, i thought high about Venkat prabhu for Mankatha.. if not for Premji & solo songs for mokkai boys.. it would have been a top notch film for Ajith.. GVM is another clever director, let me see what he pulls off with Ajith.. already he might be irritated by recent statement of an actor..

Agreed. I'm not a fan of this multi-starrers when it comes to big mass heroes. This multi-staring is for 2-nd level actors like Jiva, Arya, Vishal, Karthi, Prassana, Srikanth, etc. No matter who is going to co-star with Ajith, if it's Ajith movie, People obviously will go to see Ajith. Besides this, multi-starrers is north indian culture....namakethuku ithu?
