Director Sargunam is riding high on a success wave post the success of his maiden venture ‘Kalavani’. And now, he is all set to start his next project, titled ‘Vaagai Sooda Vaa’.

The movie will see the director joining hands once again with Vimal, the protagonist of ‘Kalavani’. If sources are to be believed, the film is an unusal entertainer and two heroines will be there.

“Talks are on with Amala Paul of ‘Mynaa’ fame and Parvathi of ‘Poo’. Sargunam is giving final touches to the script and the film will go on floors at the earliest,” sources in the know maintain.

Sargunam, who teamed up with S S Kumaran in ‘Kalavani’, has this time gone for a new music composer. “His name is Gibran and he is a talented person. ‘Vaagai Sooda Vaa’ will be his launch pad to fame,” add sources.

“We are taking back the audience to the 1960s in Vaagai Sooda Va”, says director Sargunam, who is fresh from the success of ‘Kalavani’. This time too he is joining hands with Vimal, his longtime friend.

“Vimal is playing an aspiring teacher in this movie. We have worked hard in every aspect to get an authentic 1960s feel. In short, the movie would be a time machine, full of surprises,” Sargunam says.

There is also an assurance from the director. “Audience should not mistake me that I am trying something serious since this is a period movie. Quite on the lines of ‘Kalavani’, ‘Vaagai Sooda Vaa’ too will be filled with fun from scene one.”

On the reason behind going for a period movie in his second venture itself, Sargunam says, “In fact, this is my first script. But I had to direct ‘Kalavani’ first due to some unavoidable reasons. I sincerely hope people would enjoy ‘Vaagai Sooda Vaa’ too.”

இப்பதான் இந்தப் பாட்டைக் கேட்கிறேன். கலக்கல். இந்த படம் சற்குணத்திற்கு மற்றுமொரு வெற்றிப்படமாக அமைய வாழ்த்துக்கள். பாடலில் இசை, குரல், வரிகள், காட்சிப் பதிவுகள், பாத்திரக் கலைஞர்கள் எல்லாமே அழகா அமைந்து விட்டது. ஒளி ஓவியம் என்பதற்கு அர்த்தம் சேர்க்கும் பாடல் பதிவுகள். மழையும், நீர் தேங்கிய நிலப்பரப்புக்களும் கண்ணில் ஒட்டிக்கொள்ளலாம்.

"மொடைக்கத்தான் ரசம் வச்சி மடக்கத்தான் பாக்குறேன்" இதுவும் அருமை. மொடக்கத்தான் கீரை உடம்பு மூட்டுக்களுக்கு சிறந்தது என்ற கிராமத்து வாக்கியத்தோடு ஒப்பிடும்போது, மூட்டுக்களை மடக்குதல் பொருந்தி வருகிறது.

ரொம்ப நாளைக்கு அப்புறம் குரலில் வாழ்ந்திருக்கிறார் சின்மயி . வாழ்த்துக்கள். புதிய வரவு கிப்ரன் வளரட்டும். புகழ் மாலைகள் சேரட்டும். வாகை சூட வா... மொதோ நாளிலேயே பார்த்து விடனும் என்ற ஆசை துளிர் விட்டிருக்கிறது.

AMAZING......

how they can come with fresh story-lines ..... :bow: to the newcomers
except for Vimal (who is new too) and Thambi Ramaiah (who became famous after Myna) the entire cast is new, barring one or two small characters.

The year is 1966, and Vimal's only aim in life is to become a govt teacher. Murungakaai fame father places him with an NGO that requires Vimal to go to a tiny brick making village to teach the children.
Neither Vimal nor the children are interested in studying and Vimal awaits a certificate before he gets his transfer to a govt school in a civilised place.

And then fate intervenes..... a little socialism creeps in changing the course of the villagers and Vimal. ... not to mention the tiny flavour of romance...

Slow paced movie but with a very interesting story line. Songs are awesome and really brings out the moment.
The star song is 1960's Naan pEsa ninaippathellaam nee pEsa vEndum.... was such a refreshing joy to hear the song in a cinema hall and that it was befitting the scene just proves Kannadhasan's greatness. :D
There are a couple more old songs, sharing the screen bringing lots of nostalgia. :thumbsup:

ரேடியோ, தூண்டில் தக்கை எனச் சின்னச்சின்ன விஷயங்களைக்கூட நுணுக்கமாகக் காட்டுபவர்கள், உணர்வுபூர்வமான இடங்களில் அவசர கதியில் ஓடி க்ளை மாக்ஸுக்கு வந்துவிடுகிறார்களே!

ஒரு பீரியட் சினிமாவைச் செதுக்கிய அக்கறை அழகு. அந்த அழகுக்கு உழைத்த அளவுக்குக் கதையில் ஆழம் இல்லை. ஆனாலும், அழகான பதிவு!

Good attempt and kudos to the team for their hard work. But that's about it. There are few nice scenes, but the film fails to make an impact on the whole. Could have been much better :(

Exactly my thoughts. It took a very long time for the story to set in. The first half just went around aimlessly.The second half i thought somehow salvaged the average first half.The songs were very good.Credit must also go to the actors especially the heroine and the kids. They made the tacky first quite enjoyable.Vimal was ok. We do get the feeling of him getting quite predictable with his acting and his dialogue delivery though.The cinematography was also good. If only it was backed up by a better script.In any case a one time watch.

வாகை சூட வா பார்த்தேன். நல்ல படம். தமிழின் மிக முக்கியமான படமாக வந்திருக்கவேண்டியது. இப்போதும் ஓரளவு முக்கியமான படம்தான். வேறு வழியில்லாத சில சமரசங்கள்தான் வழக்கம்போல் பிரச்சினை. ஹிந்தியில் அமீர்கான் நடித்து வந்திருக்கவேண்டிய படம் போன்ற சாயல். தமிழில் இப்படியெல்லாம் வராது என்ற தீர்மான எண்ணம்தான் இப்படி நினைக்கச் செய்கிறாதோ என்னவோ. ஏற்கெனவே அங்கன்வாடி என்ற ஒரு ‘மாநில மொழித் திரைப்படமும்’ இதே வரிசையில் வந்த மிக முக்கியமான ஹிந்தித் திரைப்படம். இசையில் பாடல்கள் நன்று. ஆனாலும் 60களின் சாயல் மொத்தமாகவே மிஸ்ஸிங். ஏன் விஷப்பரீட்சை என்று விட்டுவிட்டார்கள் போல. சுப்பிரமணிய புரத்தில் இளையராஜாவின் ‘சிறுபொன்மணி’ போல பல படங்களில் ராஜாவின் பாடல்களைப் போட்டே கொன்றுவிட்டார்கள். புதிய படங்களில் ராஜாவின் பாடல்களைப் பின்னணியில் கேட்டாலே சொல்லமுடியாத எரிச்சல் வருகிறது! இந்தப் படம் 60களை ஒட்டிய சூழல் என்ற போது எம் எஸ் வியையோ கே வி மகாதேவனையோ கேட்கலாம், அப்பாடி என்றிருந்தது. அதனை முழுமையாகப் பயன்படுத்தவில்லை என்றாலும் ‘நான் பேச நினைப்பதெல்லாம்’ நல்ல தேர்வு. சரியாகவும் பயன்படுத்தி இருந்தார்கள்.

இதையெல்லாம்விட முக்கியமானது, நம் வரலாற்றை நாமே பேசுவது என்பதுதான். வரலாற்றைப் பேசுதல் என்றாலே சாதி மோதல், நம்பிக்கைத் துரோகத்தை வரலாற்றுப் பின்னணியில் தூவி சொல்லுதல் என்ற நினைப்பை விதைத்த விருமாண்டி, சுப்ரமணியபுரம் படங்களில் இருந்து இது விலகுவது முக்கியமானது. (இதன் அர்த்தம், விருமாண்டி, ஹேராம், பருத்திவீரன் சுப்பிரமணியபுரம் படம் முக்கியமான படங்கள் அல்ல என்ற அர்த்தமல்ல. இவை பெரிய அளவில் பாதிப்பை ஏற்படுத்திவிட்டன என்கிறேன். அடுத்தடுத்து இதே போன்ற படங்கள் சலிப்பைத் தந்துவிட்டன.) படிப்பைப் பற்றிய முக்கியமான பதிவு. சாதிகளுக்குள்ளும் சென்றிருக்கலாம். சில தேவையற்ற விவாதங்கள், விமர்சனங்களை மனத்தில் வைத்து இயக்குநர் தவிர்த்துவிட்டாரா எனத் தெரியவில்லை. அதேபோல் ஆண்டை அடிமை மோதலில் அரசியலுக்குள் செல்லும் வழியிருந்தும் கம்யூனிச நெடி வராதது பெரிய ஆறுதல். இதற்கே இயக்குநரைப் பாராட்டவேண்டும்.

எத்தன் பார்த்தபோது விமலின் வசன வெளிப்பாடு களவாணி போலவே இருப்பது எரிச்சல் தந்தது. நல்லவேளை, இதில் அப்படி இல்லை. 60களில் இருந்த தோற்றத்துக்கு விமலுக்கு உழைத்ததுபோல இயக்குநரோ மேக்கப் மேனோ கதாநாயகிக்கு உழைக்கவில்லை. ஏனென்று தெரியவில்லை. பல காட்சிகளில் கதாநாயகி (பெயர் தெரியவில்லை) ஓவர் ஆக்டிங். மைனாவில் அலட்டித் தள்ளி விருது வாங்கிய தம்பி ராமையா சில காட்சிகளில் நன்றாக நடித்தார். ஆனால் சரியாக முழுமையாகப் பயன்படுத்தப்படவில்லை.

இப்படம் விருது வாங்குவதற்கான எல்லா சாத்தியக்கூறுகளும் உள்ளன. மீண்டும் வைரமுத்துவுக்கு விருது கிடைக்கும் என்பது எனக்கே அலுப்பாக இருக்கிறது! யாராவது வாங்கய்யா பாட்டு எழுத! பள்ளிச் சிறார்களாக வரும் பையன்கள் நல்ல தேர்வு. படத்தை ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக ஹைஜாக் செய்கிறார்கள். வசனங்கள் பளிச். கிராமிய வாசமும் முழுமையாகவே வருகிறது. பாபாவில் வரும் ஆன்மிகக் கிறுக்குப் போல ஒரு ஆன்மிகக் கிறுக்கு இங்கேயும் வருகிறார். ஏனென்று தெரியவில்லை. ஆன்மிகம் என்பதால் வேறு வழியில்லாமல் அந்தத் தேவையற்ற கதாபாத்திரத்துக்கு ஆதரவு தெரிவிக்கிறேன்! பாக்கியராஜ் ஒன்றிரண்டு காட்சிகள்தான் வந்தாலும் தான் மொக்கை நடிகர்தான் என்று நிரூபிக்கிறார்.

பையன்களை படிக்க வைக்கவே காட்சிகள் நீள்கிறதே என்ற எண்ணம் வரவிடாத இயக்குநர், பையன்கள் மனம் மாறுவதை ஒரு காட்சியில் காட்டாமல் இருந்திருக்கலாம். (இந்தக் காட்சி ஒரு புல்லரிப்பைத் தருகிறது என்பதையும் சொல்லத்தான் வேண்டும்.) இதைப் போல சில சில சறுக்கல்கள். ஆனாலும் இது முக்கியமான முயற்சிதான். இப்படி ஒரு படம் எடுக்க முன்வந்ததே பாராட்டப்படவேண்டியதுதான். களவாணி எடுத்த இயக்குநர் சற்குணம் நல்ல படம் எடுப்பார் என்று எதிர்பார்த்தேன். இப்படி ஒரு இன்ப அதிர்ச்சியை எதிர்பார்க்கவில்லை.

மதிய உணவு என்பது எப்பேற்பட்ட சாதனை என்பதை இப்படம் மீண்டும் உணர்த்துகிறது. நாம் பெரிய அளவில் முன்னேறி வந்துவிட்டோம் என்றாலும், இன்னும் இந்த நிலையில் எத்தனை கிராமங்கள் உள்ளனவோ என்ற எண்ணம் வரும்போதுதான் வேதனையாக இருக்கிறது. அதன் காரணம் படிக்க வராத மாணவர்கள் அல்ல, மாறாக அங்கே ஆசிரியர்கள் இல்லாத நிலை என்னும்போது நம் வேதனை பன்மடங்காகிறது. ஓராசியர் பள்ளிகள் இத்தேவைகளை ஓரளவு நிறைவேற்றலாம். வலதுசாரிகளின் தீர்வு என்றைக்குமே உள்நோக்கம் கொண்டதாக மட்டுமே இருக்கமுடியும் என்பதுதான் நம் பொதுப்புத்தி. அதிலேயே உறையவேண்டியதுதான் நம் தலையெழுத்து. வலதுசாரிகள் தற்போது செய்துகொண்டிருக்கும் இந்த முயற்சியை அரசு தத்தெடுத்துக்கொண்டுவிட்டால் நம் மதச்சார்பின்மை என்னாவது ?

Roshan/LM, I think he is referring to the one-teacher-school initiative which RSS is doing. Apparently they have a lot of volunteers running single teacher schools in remote places, tribal areas etc Look at me (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ekal_Vidyalaya).

Saw it. Liked it. Impressive albeit a little flawed. The *transition* could have been handled a little better. The sudden change of mind did not work. But great performances (Iniya esp. :clap: ) and stunning photography. Actually the film was not so much of a deviation from the Sarkunam style. And guess he was inspired by Swades particularly. Below Kalavaani but think the critics / fublic were really cruel :-(

And Ghibran, ungaLukku BGM varum-nu othukkuREn but incongruous/irrelevant and very loud.

iniyas character was very simple when compared to VB's...
only the characterisaton made iniya impressive to watch..
