The Stage is set
The promotional video of Yuvan Shankar Raja's concert will be telecast on Vijay TV from today
The smell of wet paint pierces the nose. A piano sits in the middle of the room. Music systems in various sizes rest on the racks of a giant-sized shelf. Everything is in place at the sets in Prasad Studios. Yuvan Shankar Raja enters, acknowledging greetings from the crew. It is the last of three consecutive all-night shoots for his music video, aimed at arousing curiosity about his concert, in collaboration with Vijay TV, at YMCA Nandanam on January 16.
“I had been planning for this concert for a long time. It is finally happening,” says an excited Yuvan.
Since the concert, being organised on a massive scale, required a promotional song that could be broadcast on Vijay TV, Yuvan has had to refresh his acting skills. “I was shy at first. Since I know these people, I could get over it,” says the composer.
The music video has been directed by Vishnuvardhan and the camera, handled by Nirav Shah. Kalyan did the choreography and Shanthanam created the sets. The highlight of the shoot: a Red One camera. Yuvan is more than satisfied with the lyrics penned by Na. Muthukumar. “This song is about my music and my fans,” he says and recites a few lines. “Through this song, I am telling my fans that they own the world, but I own their hearts,” he says in a tone that underlines a sense of gratitude towards his fans.
The full video will be telecast on Vijay TV from today to whet viewers' interest in the concert that will feature Yuvan's hits and include top singers and artistes from the industry.
Asked about other projects on the boil, Yuvan mentions a private English album based on hip-hop and R&B, with a twinkle in his eye.

Yuvan desires to score for a Hollywood flick
Yuvan Shankar Raja, who takes credits for several hit songs, has an unfulfilled wish. He confessed that he has always wanted to score music for a Hollywood movie and win praises from all corners of the world. But he is very busy right now with several Tamil films in his kitty and is basking in the glory of the latest hit Evan Di Unna Pethan in Vaanam, which has become a rage among the youth.
As for his yearning, we wish it happens soon. One more Tamilian on the International arena is a matter of pride.

Yuvan — Live in Concert, a report
CHENNAI: After weeks of glitzy promotional events, special TV shows and interviews, the big day finally arrived. Vijay TV’s Yuvan — Live in Concert was here and the anticipation in the air was nothing less than infectious.
It was the evening just after the festive day of Pongal. Nearly 10,000 fans thronged YMCA, Nandanam, and for singing sensation Yuvan Shankar Raja it was to be a day he’d remember for the rest of his life. The huge stage turned out to be an architect’s masterpiece, decked up with psychedelic lights in scintillating reds and sparkling blues, the marvel of the performing space complete with colourful cylindrical pillars. Yuvan appeared on stage with larger-than-life sets adding to the stunning effects.
Dressed in a swanky grey and red designer suit, he was greeted with a roar of applause, accompanied by deafening cheers and whistling.
The singer started the show with the song ‘Neethane’ from ‘Sarvam’. He looked like he was on top of the world — a hero of sorts — emerging on stage much like the late ‘King of Pop’ Michael Jackson did in his shows. 3:57 pm (4 minutes ago) Hearta
A footage of Simbu and Ilayaraja was screened, as it was initially believed that they would not be able to make it. However, later in the evening, Yuvan was pleasantly surprised as the duo turned up and even went up on stage to greet him.
Many of Yuvan’s superhit songs were performed. Singers like Shreya Goshal, Vijay Yesudas, Shankar Mahadevan and Javed Ali also sang some hit numbers like ‘Ayyo ayyo’ from ‘Paruthiveran’, ‘Siragugal vandhadhu’ from ‘Sarvam’ and more.
The show also brought together the father and the son to perform another hit number from ‘Paruthiveeram’ — ‘Ariyadha vayasu’.
Hosted by RJ Shiva, the show saw some entertaining performances on stage with Yuvan dancing to his tunes. The mega event witnessed directors, music directors and actors coming together for Yuvan. The legendary family — Ilayaraja along with his sons - Karthik Raja, Yuvan and daughter Bavatharini — offered a unique musical treat to fans. 3:57 pm (3 minutes ago) Hearta
The fan frenzy hit a feverish high, when Yuvan, harnessed to a cable was swung around the open space shook hands with excited fans. Said Joshua, a member of the audience and an ardent fan, “It is Yuvan’s first concert. I have been waiting for it for days now. I love his voice and my Ipod playlist is filled only with his music.”
The highly rigid security, though aimed at safety, at times proved to be a hindrance, as even some part of the media, besides the eagerly awaiting fans, was left stranded despite having press cards. But all the confusion that took place outside of the gate was quickly forgotten once the show started, as it made the wait worthwhile and more.

Yuvan's a rockstar - The Times of India
It was Yuvan Shankar Raja all the way at his first live concert in Chennai.
The composer made a grand entry on stage with larger-than-life sets adding to the stunning effects. He started the show with Sirikkindra pothilum..., the song composed and sung by him for the promotional music video for the concert. One of the highlights of the event was the family song Ezhezhu thalamuraikkum..., sung by Karthik Raja, Bhavadharani, Venkat Prabhu and Premgi. Simbu also crooned his hit number, Loosu penne.... and Evandi unna pethan... The icing on the cake was the performance by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja towards the end.

fantastic show:smokesmirk:...the irritating ads that followed every song was a big dampener..Vijay TV:hammer:. Viraajan n others who'd been to the show, lucky ones u are! Yuvan's Bob Marley inspired song and his words after that were:thumbsup: . my moments of the show: the rendition of my favorite YSR song "Pogaathe" made my evening, the whole C28 team on stage singing n dancing (that crazy step!) for "jalsa pannungada", Shreya Goshal (ninaithu ninaithu...wah!), Radhika's daughter going crazy for "Evan di unna petthaan" and Radhika looking on bemused, and also 'Elelu Thalamurakkum'...! the father-son moment i was waiting for eagerly but was a kind of a dampener for me...the english song rendition started off well (Yuvan means young, Ilaya means young...that was really good!), but then went sort of nowhere, and thankfully they moved on to Ariyaadha Vayasu. expected Yuvan to do something with Karthik Raja too, but that didn't happen or did i miss it? overall, paisa vasool...Yuvan seems to be a totally different personality than i thought, was kind of surprised to see him being so easy going and cool...seems to be the odd one out in his family!

Oru nalil song received claps and screams throughout the song. did u notice... heck of the song!!!
IRagai pole's entry... superA irundhadhu.... i still remember the response of the crowd during the show.... thrilled!!!
I did not like choreography of 7g bgm :? but the music

. But this vijay tv has redone it :banghead: they played the original song... and then joined it with the live performance... :hammer:
Also, few other songs were redone i believe...
Really? I was mad at Yuvan because I thought he did not sing any of the songs live (except loosu penne). I have only seen 3/4th of the first day's show so far.

Yes nerd. Vijay TV pannina vElai thaan...
Coz, when yuvan was landing, he started 'iragai pole'. At that time his voice was very jerky (landing fear nu nenaikkaren) and it sounded very funny at that time.. lol.

Nerd, watch this video. Recorded during the concert (noise adhigam). But still you can hear yuvan's original singing. He gets it right only from 'tholaiyamal tholaindhene'...
Vijay TV :hammer: :hammer:

I came across few tweets that blamed yuvan for not singing live... But as a person who watched it live, i assure you, every song was sung live in the concert. Vijay tv pannina golmal-ku yuvan mEla pazhi varudhu. :(
Even Tanvi's humming in nee thane has been modified by Vijay tv.

Finished watching the concert yesterday. Biggest highlight was the 7G instrumental. Excellent recreation by the orchestra. Shreya was not at her best while singing ninaithu ninaithu but the diction was just perfect. Raja-Yuvan WCM piece was a mega bore, thankfully Ameer saved us. Overall was an enjoyable watch.
I for one do not like to see musicians begging for the crowd to cheer them. I could not help but think of Raja sir's concert in '05 where the crowd involuntarily clapped after certain ludes were played by the orchestra, even after Raja sir asked the crowd to remain silent :-)

Excellent recreation by the orchestra.

Nowadays very less Yuvan news. Sorry to see a good talent fading away without reaching its full potential. Let God give him good direction.
