I think that this film takes the view of someone who sees it only from their narrow viewpoint, not at all taking into consideration the purpose of such a custom...or even the pride/respect that a believer would have for their own customs.

from my experiences I have not yet met anyone who deplores their decision/customs/traditions, rather it's what others assume for them.
