Arya is the man of the moment after the stupendous success of Boss Engira Baskaran, which the trade feels is all set to be the biggest hit of the year so far.

Made on a budget around Rs 6.5 Crore, and brilliantly marketed by Red Giants as a “Rom Com” (Romantic Comedy), the film as per trade sources is likely to do business worth Rs 18 to 20 Crores from theatricals alone.

The blockbuster has given small films in Tamil a new lease of life. Everybody in Kollywood is happy with the success of this family hit, which is also getting repeat audiences and has done very well in the multiplexes and single screens. Arya has all reasons to smile as his last film Madharasapattinam is slowly but surely turning into a hit.

Excerpts of an exclusive interview with the new star of Kollywood.

What is your state of mind after Boss Engira Baskaran has been declared a blockbuster by the trade?
I am extremely happy and am enjoying every bit of attention that I’ve been receiving. Ultimately every hero works hard to get that elusive blockbuster and now I have also achieved it after five years. With this film, I have reached out to women, family audiences and masses alike.

They say it’s your first blockbuster hit. Please comment
The film is a big morale boost for me and it has come at the right time. I think our audiences were waiting for a good full-length clean comedy and they accepted it with both their hands. In Bollywood we have Akshay Kumar doing such slapstick comedies and if such film can work big time there why not in Kollywood?

What according to do worked big time for the film?
It’s the clean comedy content and director Rajesh’s packaging. My chemistry with Santhanam worked big time. So far, Santhanam was used only in comedy tracks and given lengthy dialogues. But in Boss Engira Bhaskaran he had a character to play who dominated my Boss character in the first half and in the latter part he suffered for helping me. When I heard the script from Rajesh for the first time, I knew the film would work and I decided to take the risk.

Critics say that songs could have been better?
First and foremost it is a comedy film and in such genre one should not look for a great script, logic, songs or perfection. I think the song of Yuvan were in sync with the comedy and has been appreciated.

Do you think that the release time also worked in favour of the film?
Yes, you are bang on it. I have to thank Red Giants who were bold enough to release the film two weeks ahead of Enthiran and later the Rajinikanth biggie got pushed by a week to Oct 1, giving our film a clean three weeks run at the box-office. It was a bold decision that paid off handsomely.

Why did you decide to buy the film from Sreenivasan the original producer?
I saw the double positive of the film along with Sreenivasan who I know since Naan Kadavul days and he was generous enough to give the film to me when I asked him. But all credit goes to Red Giants who took the film to places with some superb smart marketing and gave it a good opening.

Are you launching your brother Satya?
No, he is being launched by Mirchi movies with Kathal to Kalyanam.

After comedy worked big time for you, will you be doing more films in such genre?
No I will be doing films in different genres. My next release Chikku Bukku is a pure romantic film while Avan Ivan is again a comedy film which will be 10 times more hilarious than Boss. Bala is trying out something very different and working out something different from his morbid tales and it is shaping out well. After that I will start work on Cloud Nine’s Lingusamy’s pucca action commercial film Vettai with a Rs 25 Crore budget which will take me to the next level. So my hands are full.

Do you think that now with success, you’re a threat to the reigning top young stars of Kollywood?
(Smiles) No one can be a threat to anyone. Every actor comes with a shelf life and career graph. Rajinikanth will never be a threat to Kamal Haasan or Surya be a threat to Vijay. Everyone has their own career graph and there are enough films for all.

Mysskin the Filmfare Award winner is all set to move the film ‘Mugamudi’ on to the floors. The film is going to be a big budget film.The film is totally based martial arts.Till here the things moved smoothly. But the problem for the direct is when the film got holdup for some reasons.

Suriya was selected as the main lead for the movie.Due to the delay in the project suriya got busy with his other projects ‘Aadhavan’ and ‘Singam’.Now the director is ready with to start the film,but Suriya cannot turn up for the ‘Mugamudi’ as he is tied up with his other schedules.

The current news is that Mysskin narrated the stroy line to Arya who is also a Filmfare Award winner was eager to do the film and accepted instantly.

The movie is moving to sets finally and N.Lingusamy is producing the film under his own production house Thirupathi Brothers.

Mysskin who is making ‘Mugamudi’ a martial arts based story has finalized Arya for the film. He first planned of having Suriya but things turned towards Arya.

The director wants Arya to be an expert in martial arts. So he is planning to get Kung Fu trainer from Okinawa, japan.Arya will be trained on the tough parts of martial arts. He is going to play the role of a martial arts connoisseur in the film.

The film is going to floors with a budget of 35 crores.As said Lingusamy is producing the film. Mysskin is not comprising in any aspect, as he wants all the commercial essentials in ‘Mugamudi’.

Parthyy, OK.. I have nothing against Arya and in fact I know him personally. Such a nice person. But I did not like the trailer even though it has two of my favorites - Arya and Shreya. Anyway I will be glad to be proved wrong.

Yet another feel-good movie, but not as funny as BEB.
There are countless comedians - but they come and vanish. Santhanam and Jagan make thier mark. I wonder why Jagan is not getting more opportunities.
Santhanam was good and his usual self. :P

Film starts in London (with mandatory hip hop song) and moves to Bangalore and ends in Madurai.
In between there is the love story of Dad Arya (with similar growth of beard in 1985 :rotfl: ) with a lovely lovely girl (far surpassing Shreya) Paappaa cannot act, but who cares. :P
Shreya, on the other hand, tries to imitate Genelia and ends up irritating. :x

"Story" is told thru a series of flashbacks. In the beginning the flashback is shown in different shade of color, but soon the director mixes up and puts all together. :lol2:

Oh yeah, lots of logic loopholes. Car has no brakes, awesome car chase scene starts, but ends with the car having no brake problems. :rotfl:

Arya and his engineering skills at crossing the bridge was :rotfl2:

Nice time-pass movie. Go with minimum expectations.

Enna analysis? I was referring to Shreya's looks not acting..Acting wise, both were bad..

only good part of the movie is the Karaikudi flashback scenes that too in the end becomes worst...

Arya is right now busy with the last schedule of Bala’s Avan Ivan. The film is moving on a faster pace so to complete at the earliest.

Buzz is that Arya’s next movie is going to be with Gautham Menon. Sources reveal that Arya had a script discussion with Gautham and he is very much impressed with Gautham’s script. Arya without any second thought has accepted to do the film.

The story line of the film is known to be a thriller and this is going to be the first thriller film for Arya. The director is soon going to wrap up his present project Nadunisi Naigal and will step into this untitled film with Arya.

The details of the other cast and crew will be finalized shortly.

Arya had once replaced Suriya in the movie ‘Sarvam’. Director Vishnuvardhan had approached Suriya to don the lead character, but he didn’t accept as the filmmaker was just 2 films old in film industry. But soon after the thundering response of ‘Billa’, the actor voluntarily went ahead requesting Vishnuvardhan to sign him for ‘Sarvam’, but was disappointed as the director informed that he has already roped in Arya.

Gowtham Menon had earlier planned to sign Ajith Kumar for his next film
‘Thuppariyum Anand’ that didn’t happen. Later there were buzzes that it
would be Suriya replacing him. But now we hear it from his office that it
will be probably Arya replacing him.
