As Plum had already given you the list, let me give you one info that you wanted. Maanagara Kaaval was released in July 1991. I think it was on July 12th or 19th, not sure though. But there is one statistic that might interest you in case you are not aware of that already. If you check VK's filmography list, you will find Iravu Sooriyan as VK's 99th film that had Murali as hero and VK coming in as a special appearance. This movie was released only on July 5th of 1991 whereas Captain Prabakaran the official 100th movie of VK was released on 11th April of 1991. A convenient adjustment to make CP as the 100th movie.

No idea of Moondrezhuthil En Moochhirukkum. But Kaaviya Thalaivan was there but due to some reason the film was not able to hit the screens on Deepavali day of 1992 and got released after a week or so. This Abaavanan produced KSG directed movie failed miserably, creating bad blood between Abaa and KSG that spilled on to the tabloids. The Sarath kumar starrer Thaai Mozhi was also produced by VK through Ibrahim Raavuthar.

Other than TM, the other successful movie was Senthamzih Pattu [a 125 day movie, IIRC] that saw Vasu successfully reloading yet another version of Chinna Thambi within a span of 18 months that also saw MSV and IR coming together for the second time.

Regarding Singaravelan, yes it was the only Kamal movie between Guna and Thevar Magan that came during April 1992.

i've a list for 100 films with release date (more or less correct)
after that, the website is not updated.. it was like reading Ghajini Sanjay ramasamy's diary for me..
& post 100 is the period I have some rememberence.. for which i desperately looking for stats.. also, like said to Vinayak.. "life begins at 40".. captain was on high around his 40.. (35 to 42/43).. after that downfall..

just look this.. if there is no iravu sooriyan.. "manakara kaval" might be the 100th film :p .. just before Captain prabhakaran, it was Sathriyan.. wow.. it might be the porkaalam for puratchi kalaignar fans..
after Manakara kaval.. best of his acting talent comes out in Chinna Gounder..
acting display was followed by his all time best dance video.. Barathan (punnagaiyil minsaram).. 1992.. [ year of birth: 1952] .. oh man.. life begins at 40 :) .. & he was just 2 yrs into his marriage life..

a slip after 1995 till 1999.. then a comeback in Vanathai Pola - vallarasu - vanchinathan.. then change of track.. lost interest in giving quality / critic loving films.. rather started giving blogger loving films.. suddenly there was a Ramana.. then MLA.. & the rest is history..

1. Anandha Raj (the part where he says in Kerala the top heroes won't be Mammootty and Mohanlal, but him)
2. Captain vs Vijayakanth fight. I reiterate this, it's well done, well edited, and had probably the best twin/look-alike fighting against each other scene ever in TFI (trumps Alavandhan climax).

- too many things are put into this film..
- it is not an action film alone.. they tried to add humour & wanted some family sentiment.. etc. etc. finally not so good product
- film is not that bad.. but its not great
- very few outdoor shoot.. mostly it was taken in some big house.. reminds me of tele serial... this is what we can expect from SAC

- Captain is a CID officer, in this.. i thought story will go in this line.. in between they added family drama - blood cancer to his wife, a 2nd heroine to take care of captain after his wife's death & separate track for his sister & her love... & all 3 (wife, sister, sister's lover) were killed by villain.. to end the film.. captain takes revenge & kills villain..

- captain looks good in this.. but SAC wasted & missed to give a fiery action film... but captain was getting ready for his Pulan visaranai, sathriyan & captain prabhakaran in another 2 yrs time

- only worthy mention for MSV... "kasthuri maankuttiyam" in the voice of Jeyachandran :thumbsup:

& finally.. about the leading ladies..

The movie had a melodious "Thendralukku pirandha veedu". MSV at his breezy best.
I remember the movie for the punch line by saranraj "En routeae vera". Funny enough
baby shamilee gives the counterpunch in the climax "En daddy routeae vera".

Ulavuthurai - Captain's 125th or 150th movie right? It has more underwater scenes than any other Tamil movie I've seen. Etho submarine kadathara maadhir ellaam story varum. I remember the climax fight, near a railway track. VK fights against a huge & very well-built (European?) villian.

Interesting thing is, as I entered only second half onwards, I started to feel for the bad guy. He tried so hard to kill Captain, to the point that he breaks his leg and spends many many scenes later limping, and thanks to Sampath's performance, you actually feel for him. And his family, it's a mini drama going on within there (when folks leave the funeral house, and Ilavarasu's disappointment with Sampath, very nicely taken). Really, this should be one of the more notable films in Captain's resume.

Ace filmmaker R Sundararajan, who wielded the megaphone for some of the important movies in Vijayakanth's career ('Amman Koil Kizhakkale', 'Vaidehi Kathirundhal', 'Ninaive Oru Sangeetham' and 'En Aasai Machan') has charged the actor-politician with ignoring him.
"When the actual producers of Vaidehi Kathirundhal were against Vijayakanth playing the lead role in the movie, I backed him strongly and went ahead directing it for another producer. The film gave him a big break," Sundararajan said in an interview to a popular Tamil weekly.
He added: "I worked with him for many films later and gave him super hits. But when my son died in a road accident, Vijayakanth, despite being in my next street, did not bother about visiting me. That's the reality of cinema."
Sundararajan, who is a popular actor too, is now focusing on his family business, catering. "I was the one who took care of catering services in the recent weddings of P Vasu and KS Ravikumar families. I will sure direct a film in the future, when I meet a producer who gives importance to script."

when i think about Pongal - cinema - vijayakanth..
the most unforgettable Pongal for me is Pongal - 2000

Pongal in 2000 is on saturday & on friday I & few other friends (around 4 to 5 people) from college decided to go for a movie afternoon.. since there were no classes..
we went to Karpagam Complex theater (coimbatore) at around 2:20 pm..
matnee show started & we were late by some 15 mins..
everyone preferred to watch.. KANNUKKUL NILAVU, reason is simple, Fazil + Ilayaraja + Vijay + Shalini.. kadhalukku Mariyadhai combo's 2nd attempt.. but tkts were not available..
it was a 3 screen theater.. the other screen is showing Mudhalvan.. which was a 1999 diwali release..
nobody will like to go without watching movie once u decide to go for a movie.. most will try to watch some other movie for which tickets are available..
so, now we have Mudhalvan .. its a old & already watched film.. & Kannukkul nilavu.. for which tkts are not available.. the only left over is ...... Puratchi Kalaignar'in VANATHAI POLA :) ..

got the tkts.. not sure whether in counter or in black.. i went in without any expectation..
missed senior vijayakanth & Vinitha part.. so i didn't have any idea why vijayan was keen to divide the family.. those day i don't even had a mail id.. so, no idea of internet then to read the previews or reviews & promote the film with paid reviews - sky rocket the expectation & have nothing in film.. nothing of that sort ..
film was so - so.. i expected some fight sequences like all vijayakanth fans.. nothing i could get before intermission.. after an hour.. around 4 people.. shouted against the film & its over sentiment... left the theater.. i felt slightly embrassed..
those days SA Rajkumar was one of people's fav. music director & songs in Vanathai pola also good.. & i felt senthil & ramesh kanna's comedy also would go down well with family audience..
some of Prabhu deva scenes & his dance were saving grace (back then i thought so)
in the second half.. Anandraj comes into scene.. i thought, hah.. film would take good turn as per my likeness.. & that also short lived.. Anandraj will become a good person.. atlast just one fight..
film ended, we all left the theater.. & went home after exchanging "happy pongal" greetings..

Next day.. Happy Pongal.. Raj TV got the rights of Vanathai pola.. from morning till evening.. it was "engal veetil ella naalum karthigai" in few TV channels.. a feel good family song.. i was happy..

& finally very happy for Vanathai Pola's huge success & it ran for some 175 days in the same complex.. i was tracking it in Dailythanthi advts..
VANATHAI POLA - First successful thamiz film of the millenium..
except Kushi... no other film tried to match its success that year.. though there were a lot of good films like Alaipayudhe, Hey Ram, Kandukonden kandukonden, name a few.. & not to forget Captain came back strongly to please his fans with VALLARASU.. & i'm happy it almost won against Alaipayudhe.. thank god.. there was no concept of wide release..

& VANATHAI POLA... words took from Chinna Gounder song.. gave Captain probably the last innings of his career.. at the age of 48.. & happy to see him again, giving hits once in a while, in his own way for the rest of his career..

so, thats the story of 2000 pongal & my experience with Vanathai Pola

after Vanathai Pola & Vallarasu.. he missed a hat trick in Simmasanam, probably because of no V at the start of title.. so he came back again.. in 2001 Pongal.. with V... for.. VANCHINATHAN.. another tailor made script for Captain..
Vanchinathan was not alone.. he has to compete with 2 other young guns.. probably 3.. of these 3.. one of those heroes wont forget 2001 Pongal.. the film gave him hardcore true fans & that was his strength till now..
so, the competitors of VANCHINATHAN..
FRIENDS... Vijay & Surya.. & the next one is.. dinakku dinakku dina dina.. DEENA.. Ajith..

Vijayakanth is all set to create history in audio records with his 150th movie Arasangam. The movie is set to sell one lakh audio CDs during its audio release function to be held on March 28th. வெறுமனே போலிஸ் ஹீரோ, கடத்தல் வில்லன் என்று கதை பண்ணாமல், கடத்தலுக்கு உதவி செய்து ஆதாயம் பெறும் அரசியல்வாதி, போலிஸ், கலெக்டர், மோசமான நிலையில் வேலை பார்க்க வைக்கப்படும் கடைநிலை காவல்துறையினர், வேறுவழியில்லாமல் கடத்தல்காரனுக்கு உதவும் பக்கத்து கிராம மக்கள் என்று கதையை பின்னி உண்மைக்கு பக்கத்தில் கொண்டு வந்திருப்பார்.
