I don't know y they have kept this title.. may be with the meaning "paattudai thalaivan"

coming back to the self praise title song... Captain ippo politics'la illaina.. andha paattula ezhudhiya varigalukku artham vEra aagirukkum :) eppadiyo, koduthavangalum vaanginavangalum mana thripthiyoda irundha sari!!!

Story: Shobana, Vijayakanth'i kaadhalichuttu yEmathittu poyidurar. adhanala Vijayakanth kudikaarara maridurar. Shobana mela kovathil irukkar.. aanaal kadaisiyil adharkku shobana kaaranam illainu theriya vandhu iruvarum onnu serraanga.

Regarding the performances.. not much scope for other characters..

* MN Nambiyar - KR Vijaya... as parents of Captain.. does a neat job

* Vijayakumar.. father of shobana... he does his part.. comes in very few scenes.. just checked that SATHRIYAN released next to P O T in which both the VK's (kanth & kumar) share good chemistry

* Livingston - more or less, we have to consider him as the villain of the film.. was there to provide climax fight.. & I wanted to mention his name because recent said about vadivelu that Captain has a habit of giving more than one chance for someone he introduces.. & this time it is Livingston.. though he is from Baghyaraj unit, his first film as an actor is Poonthotta Kavalkaran....

* Interesting selection of comedians..
- senthil.... captain's fav <this I can say from what i have seen in his films> comes as sidekick to captain.. few were LOL.. like poonaiyai puzhinjutten.. few were mokkai.. considering that i love Gounder comedies

- SS Chandran.. another of Captain's fav.. both were together & DMK abimaanis in mid 80's... I always loved SS one liners.. & he does the same here.. some of his dialogues were LOL worthy.. & u have to link his dialogues with political scenario of that period

- janakaraj .. captain's side kick when the story shifts to chennai.. surprised to see jana here.. he is mostly remembered with Rajini & Kamal.. very rarely seen together with Captain

- kovai sarala .. sidekick to Shobana

uyir naadi of the film is "ninaithadhu yaro.. neethane.." < possibly by Gangai Amaran >
duet & sad version has different lyrics.

As usual, GOD uses an array of singers for Captain..

*Mano..... stands tall among the others with the song "ninaithadhu yaro" ..

* GOD.. takes care of title song & another good song "ellorudaya vazhkkaiyilum pombalai undu"

but surprisingly there is no "Captain's pb srinivas" P Jeyachandran & KJ Jesudas

so then, here comes about lead pair..

Many times I posted my liking to Vijayakanth - Shobana pair.. a good match
checked my stats. .& POT is the first by these 2.. i guess POT must be a Hit / profitable film.. because within another year they both paired in 2 other films.. the next one being Ponmanachelvan & the last one is Enkitta Modhadhe (sariyo sariyo nan kadhalithadhu). When i recently watched E M .. I liked their chemistry.
Unlike E M.. P O T doesn't have much of good scenes together as 2nd half shows both seperated & shobana is always in tears & also the video quality is not good.
My mom says that, "shobana eppavume oru dollar chain pOtrukkum".. i checked in EM & POT.. since she mostly wears saree & she might have a bigger necklace.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJE0n4KeVhg&feature=relmfu <watch from 2:30>
my mom had a similar one.. its a typical 80's design

It's not a typical captain film.. his character is taken from the climax of Amman Koil KizhakkalE & his acting is similar to that <since his is limited talent.. he needs to repeat the same expressions>. He looks super-fit & he was 37 yrs old when he did this film.. the age of present day Vijay / Surya. He acted well as a innocent villager. Always captain does what the director expects. The acting in this film forms the base for present day mimicry artists to imitate VK.. something like nobody tried to imitate the earlier days MGR & always mimic the one after he was shot by MR Radha

I was smiling for this.. linking to present political situation

overall, its a slightly disappointing film for a Vijayakanth fan or to Puratchi Kalaignar fan. No much fight scenes or fiery dialogues or a elegant Vijayakanth (like that of Chinna Gounder).Though there was a flow in the film.. in the second half there was some rush in finishing the things. Need to say Captain had showed that he can handle a love subject & makes it decent viewing for other fans & neutrals. Thanks to musical GOD Isaignani Ilayaraaja :bow: not just for P O T... but in general for giving very good music & some specials to Captain films that I can enjoy for long time.

I was a fan of Ilayaraja not because of Vijayakanth film songs but after listening to his 80's music for Rajini & Kamal.. only later discovered his works for Captain.

Karthik Raja had worked for Captain in Alexander & Vanchinathan. His name will be in the titles of Sakkarai Devan (BGM). So, he has 3 films with Captain. Has he worked more than this for any other actor.

it was more lively & had good comedy, songs by IR, nice casting like VAM, Manorama, Kushboo

And yes, it's films like this that makes non-Captain fan to continue to keep an eye on his career. it is a good time pass movie .. remember Sundarrajan was on a roll at that time..
VAM is there to give comic relief.. & there is one side love failure (for Kushboo).. otherwise there were no mother sentiments despite the presence of Manorama & Vadivukkarasi or any sister sentiment..
Radharavi is the villain.. just for the sake of having one..
sarathkumar comes in one scene..

I don't know whether u get RAJ TV in Malaysia.. that is the channel which usually plays 80's captain movies.. sun tv shows more of 1995 + movies & they repeats is more than I like

I watched Ghandi Pirantha Man. Missed the first 15 minutes. Unga style-la point by point.

-Overall decent movie, more grounded than the usual Captain vs Terrorist.
- Still the dialogues were fiery. Must be Liyakat Alikhan?
- Disappointed that there was not much vehicular stunt that I admired in him. But the movie is like that.
- Fights, typical Captain. I felt there was more leg use here. For every punch, there was 15 butt-kicking.
- Captain was so and so in supposed comedic scene, but preaching scenes he roars. Well done.
- Comedy sidekick main, R. Sunderajan assisted by Vivek. Sucked, except for "Stra...Exstra..." scene.
- Again, decent one time watch movie. Need to check out more of this kinda grounded easy Captain movies, though my guilty pleasure is to see him hanging out of a truck or jumping out of a jeep onto a motorbike or something...that's the real reason the industry needs Captain.

HR, I've watched Nallavan. If not mistaken, it was one Deepavali and every goddamn relative and friends house we visited were playing pirated copy of that movie. So and so movie if I recall.

while I was watching some cowboy / western films.. i thought, "indha madhiri padathula yEn Captain nadikkalai" :think:
Rajini did Thaai meedhu saththiyam.. & during captain's early days.. for producers.. if no Rajini.. get Captain.. T M S'ku appuram indha type padangale edukka padalainu ninaikkiren..
but, Captain Prabhakaran had it.. horse rindings & attacking the train.. should have been inspired from those films.. RKS did well too .. after that i saw those kind in KARUPPU ROJA < first DTS in tamil - Ramki starrer - Aabavanan>
& i always wished to see Captain Prabhakaran in latest sound technology in crystal clear video..

i think it should be possible to convert them now

I know what you mean but I am more irritated by the spoiling of Vaanil Vidivelli with the anguish/grief passages. I understand that is the movie situation and Raja never fails to factor that in. But the probelm is there is a gulf in quality between the tune for Vaanil Vidivelli and the tune for these portions. It jars, and is a bit like the interludes for Kanaa Kaanum Kangal mella by MSV, again a screen-necessity but frustrating when you hear the song stand-alone

& u are watching it after accepting that he can act :DActually, after accepting that there are some redeeming values in his earlier films (stunt, which was a bit disappointing here) that can make you sit and watch. Of course, in the hands of a good director, he can act. One scene here, where our Mohan Raman-sir plays his superior and had to sign the warrant that Captain finally gets. He'd be on the phone, and Captain would be watching him, realises the fellow talking to an empty phone, dilly-dallying, and catches him and makes him sign the warrant paper. That's a fine scene and very well acted.

Also, the whole movie has lots of crying, unusual for post 90s Captain.


Gowthami was apt choice for the role of doctor(?)She was good as usual. And Manorama, I liked her here, which is unusual for me as am not quite the fan of Manorama the character artiste.

A young woman was holding a holding a heavy Aeries 3 movie camera and shooting for the Tamil film “Sira Paravai” at the Mudumalai forest in 1987.
She was supposed to shoot an action scene with Vijayakanth. Every thing was perfect during the monitor shot. But something went wrong during the take. uzhavan magan - dvd copy which i have is not full.. it starts with "radhika"'s name.. i.e., can't see how the title & Captain's name are displayed.. & the film ends abruptly.. i think the climax fight is not there..
so i thought of buying a Uzhavan Magan kambeni dvd.. ended up with "thamizchelvan"...

i saw another combo.. "apoorva ragangal - tick tick tick - manakanakku" <moserbaer>... they added "manakanakku" with kamal collections but "manakanakku" is Vijayakanth's film where kamal did a guest appearance for his director friend RC Sakthi..
i don't want to buy this dvd since i already have a copy of TTT.. & i'm not interested in watchin "avala ivan vechurundhan - iva innoruthana vechurundha" type Balachander's Apoorva ragangal...

மக்களே, மக்களே என்று விஜயகாந்த்தும், பிரேமலதாவும் ஊர் ஊராகப் போய்க் கெஞ்சியும் மக்கள் வாக்களிக்காமல் போனதற்கு முக்கியக் காரணங்களை அவர்கள் பட்டியலிடுகிறார்கள்.

1. முதலில் தேமுதிகவை மக்களுக்கான கட்சியாக இன்னும் விஜயகாந்த் மாற்றவில்லை. இந்தக் கட்சிக்கு ஆரம்ப காலத்தில் மக்களிடமிருந்து கிடைத்த நல்ல வரவேற்பை வைத்து அரசியலில் தான் காலூன்றவே விஜயகாந்த் முயன்றார். ஒரு முறை கூட மக்களுக்கான கட்சியாக இதை மாற்ற அவர் முயலவில்லை.

2.மக்களுக்கான போராட்டங்களை, மக்களின் தேவைகளுக்கான போராட்டங்களை தேமுதிக முறையாக, சரியாக நடத்தத் தவறி விட்டது.

3. தனக்கென்று வாக்கு வங்கியை உருவாக்கிக் கொள்ள வேண்டும், அதை வைத்து கூட்டணிக்குப் பேர பேச வேண்டும் என்பதையே முக்கியக் குறிக்கோளாக தேமுதிக இன்னும் கூட வைத்துள்ளது. இது மக்களிடையே எதிர்மறையான தீர்ப்புக்கு வித்திட்டு விட்டது.

4. சீட் கேட்கவே தனது வாக்கு வங்கியை விஜயகாந்த் முழு மூச்சாக பயன்படுத்தினார். மாறாக, திமுக, அதிமுகவுக்கு மாற்றாக வரும், வர வேண்டும் என்ற மக்களின் அடிப்படை அபிலாஷையை அவர் மதிக்கத் தவறி விட்டார், மறந்து விட்டார், கவனிக்காமல் விட்டு விட்டார்.

5. அதிமுகவையும், திமுகவையும் கடுமையாக சாடி வந்த விஜயகாந்த், அதிமுகவின் ஓட்டு வங்கியை மிகப் பெரிய அளவில் பந்தாடி வந்த விஜயகாந்த், கடைசியில் அதே கட்சியுடன் போய்க் கூட்டணி வைத்தது மக்களை அதிர வைத்து விட்டது. இதை உணர தற்போது மக்கள் விஜயகாந்த்துக்கு நல்ல வாய்ப்பை ஏற்படுத்திக் கொடுத்துள்ளனர்.

6. சட்டசபைத் தேர்தலில் அதிமுகவுக்கு அமோகமான வாக்குகள் கிடைக்க திமுக மீதான மக்களின் கடும் அதிருப்தியும், கோபமுமே காரணம். அதேசமயம், தேமுதிகவுக்கு 29 எம்.எல்.ஏக்கள் கிடைக்க அதிமுகவுக்கு ஓட்டுப் போட்ட மக்களின் ஆதரவு தேமுதிகவுக்கும் சாதகமாக அமைந்ததே. மற்றபடி தேமுதிகவின் பலத்தால் வந்ததல்ல இந்த 29 இடங்களும் என்பது அரசியல் நோக்கர்களின் ஆணித்தரமான வாதமாக உள்ளது.

7. திமுகவை விட மேலான கட்சியாக தேமுதிக உருவெடுத்த போதிலும், திமுக எதிர்க்கட்சியாக கடந்த காலங்களில் இருந்தபோது செய்ததை விட கால்வாசியைக் கூட தேமுதிக செய்யவில்லை. குறிப்பாக சமச்சீர் கல்விப் பிரச்சினை வந்தபோது தேமுதிகவின் நிலை மக்களுக்குக் கடைசி வரை புரியவே இல்லை.

8. இந்த ஆட்சி குறித்து ஒரு வருடம் கழித்தே பேசுவேன் என்று தெனாவெட்டாக விஜயகாந்த் பேசியதை மக்கள் ரசிக்கவில்லை என்பதும் மக்களின் தீர்ப்பிலிருந்து புரிகிறது. அப்படியானால் ஒரு வருடத்திற்குள் என்ன நடந்தாலும் அதை விஜயகாந்த் கண்டு கொள்ள மாட்டார், பேச மாட்டார் என்ற முடிவுக்கு மக்கள் வந்து விட இது காரணமாகி விட்டது.

9. ஒரு எதிர்க்கட்சியாக பொறுப்பாக நடந்து கொள்ளாமல், சட்டசபைக்குப் போவதும், வருவதுமாக விஜயகாந்த் உள்ளிட்ட கட்சியினர் இருந்ததும் மக்களை சிந்திக்க வைத்து விட்டது. உண்மையில் மக்களே சிந்தியுங்கள் என்று விஜயகாந்த்தும், பிரேமலதாவும் கூறியது மக்களை வேறு விதமாக சிந்திக்கத் தூண்டி விட்டது.

யாருக்கும் கிடைக்காத அரிய வாய்ப்பாக ஒரு அருமையான அங்கீகாரத்தை மக்கள் கொடுத்தும் கூட அதை சற்றும் மதிக்காமல், பொருட்படுத்தாமல் தான் தோன்றித்தனமாக தேமுதிக செயல்பட்டதால் மக்களிடையே அக்கட்சிக்கு பெரும் அதிருப்தியை ஏற்படுத்தி விட்டது. மேலும், முக்கியப் பிரச்சினைகளில் தேமுதிகவின் கொள்கை, நிலைப்பாடு என்ன என்பதையும் அக்கட்சியினர், மக்களுக்குப் புரிய வைப்பதில் தவறி விட்டனர்.

மொத்தத்தில் தேமுதிகவின் தற்போதைய ஒரே கொள்கை, இப்போது எதிர்க்கட்சியாகி விட்டோம், எம்.எல்.ஏக்களைப் பெற்று விட்டோம், முரசு சின்னத்தை தக்க வைத்துக் கொண்டு விட்டோம். அடுத்து எம்.பி பதவிகளையும் கணிசமான அளவில் வாங்கி விடுவோம், பிறகு ஆட்சியைப் பிடிப்போம். அதுவரை அமைதியாக இருப்போம் என்ற பாணி அரசியலை மக்களே சுத்தமாக வெறுத்து ஒதுக்கியுள்ளனர் என்பதே இந்த தேர்தல் முடிவின் சாராம்சமாகும்.

தேர்தல் ஆணையத்திடம் அங்கீகாரம் பெறுவது, கூட்டணி சேர்ந்து சீட்டைப் பெறுவது என்ற விஜயகாந்த்தின் வித்தியாசமான அரசியலுக்கு மக்கள் ஆணித்தரமான முற்றுப்புள்ளி வைத்துள்ளனர்.

தனது பலமே தனித்துப் போட்டியிடுவதுதான் என்பதை விஜயகாந்த் சற்றும் புரிந்து கொள்ளவில்லை. தனது கட்சி உயிர் பிழைப்பதற்காக அவர் கூட்டணி சேர்ந்த விதம் மக்களிடமிருந்து அவரை அழகாக பிரித்து விட்டது. இங்குதான் ஜெயலலிதாவின் அதிமுக படு சாதுரியமாக செயல்பட்டு பாலிட்டிக்ஸ் செய்துள்ளது. இதை அவர் புரிந்து கொள்ள 5 மாத காலம் ஆகியுள்ளது.

ஊர் ஊராகப் போய் கடுமையாக பிரசாரம் செய்வது பெரிய விஷயமல்ல. நாம் சொல்வதை, செய்வதை தமிழகத்தின் பட்டி தொட்டியெங்கும் உள்ள மக்கள் புரிந்து கொள்ளும் வகையில் நமது செயல்பாடுகள் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்பதே அரசியலில் முக்கியம்.

தேமுதிக ஒரு பொறுப்பான மக்கள் கட்சி, மக்கள் குரலே தேமுதிகவின் குரல், மக்களுக்காகத்தான் தேமுதிக என்ற நிலை மாறும்போதுதான் அந்தக் கட்சிக்கு மக்கள் ஆதரவு நிலை பெறும், நிரந்தரமாகும், அப்போதுதான் அது உண்மையான மாற்றுக் கட்சியாக மாற முடியும் என்பதை விஜயகாந்த் உணர வேண்டும். ஆனால் மாற்றத்தைக் கொண்டு வாருங்கள் மக்களே என்று சொன்ன விஜயகாந்த் பின்னர் அவரே மாறிப் போனதன் மூலம் மற்றும் ஒரு கட்சியாகவே தற்போது தேமுதிக உருமாறிப் போயுள்ளது துரதிர்ஷ்டவசமானதுதான்.
