wow, enga ooru kottaayi.... :) old films re-release aagarathukku ne enga oor la onnu rendu theatre irukku.... it is a surprise therefore the traditionally rajini, vj, dubbing english movie screening theatre is releasing a (g)old movie :)

why specifically Karnan for a state wide re-release....... any occasion? or is this a trend that has just started ?? (re-release Sivaji's favorite movies one by one state wide)

சபையில் பீஷ்மர் உயிருடன் இருக்கும் வரை போர் புரிவதில்லை என சபதம் செய்து தன் அரண்மனை வந்தவுடன் துரியோதனன் "அவரவர்கள் பாடு அவர்களுக்கு... இடையில் ஏன் பாடு இடிபாடாகிறது. இது எவருக்கேனும் புரிகிறதா? என்று இடித்துரைத்தவுடன் "நண்பன் உனக்கு நான்" என்று ஆத்திரமும்,கோபமும் கொப்பளிக்க துரியோதனனிடம் "பேசாதே" என்று பொங்குவது.

"பீமா, சாப்பாட்டு ராமா!.. உன் இடம் சமையலறை", என்று பீமனிடம் கேலி பேசி போரிடுவது.

கண்ணன் தன்னைப் பார்த்து கள்ளத்தனமாக சிரிக்கும் போது தன் முடிவை தெரிந்து கொண்டு "இந்தச் சிரிப்பு எமது முடிவைக் குறிப்பதா? என்று சிரித்துக் கொண்டே புரிந்து கொள்வது...

16-3-2012 அன்று தென்னாற்காடு மாவட்டத்தின் தலைநகர் கடலூர் நம் நடிப்புச் சக்கரவர்த்தி அவர்களின் கர்ண கர்ஜனையால் கதி கலங்கியது. கிருஷ்ணாலயா திரையரங்கம் திருவிழாக் கோலம் பூண்டது. மாலைக்காட்சி 6-30 க்கு என்றால் ரசிகர்கள் 3.00 மணிக்கெல்லாம் தியேட்டருக்கு வரத் தொடங்கி விட்டார்கள். நடிகர் திலகம் வாழ்க, சிம்மக் குரலோன் வாழ்க என்ற கோஷங்கள் விண்ணைப் பிளந்தன. முதல் நாள் இரவே கிருஷ்ணாலயா திரையரங்கம் பேனர்களாலும், கொடிகளாலும், வாழை மரங்களினாலும், பூக்களாலும் அலங்கரிக்கப்பட்டு சொர்க்கலோகம் போல மின்னியது. எங்கு திரும்பினாலும் நடிகர் திலகத்தின் பேனர்கள்.

'என் ஆச ராசாவே' (28-8-1998)ரீலீசுக்குப் பிறகு இந்தத் திரையரங்கில் இப்போது கர்ணன். கிட்டத்தட்ட 14 வருடங்கள் இடைவெளி. ரசிகர்களின் உற்சாகத்துக்கு கேட்க வேண்டுமா! கடலூரிலும் அதை சுற்றியுள்ள பகுதிகளிலும் இருந்து ஒரு ரசிகர் கூட விடாமல் அனைத்து ரசிகர்களும் தியேட்டரில் நான்கு மணிக்கெல்லாம் 'டாண்' என்று ஆஜர். ஒவ்வொரு முகத்திலும் 1000 watts மெட்ரிக் விளக்கின் பிரகாசம். உற்சாகக் கூக்குரல்கள். ஒருவரையொருவர் கட்டித் தழுவி 'தெய்வத்தின் புகழ் வாழ்க' என்று ஆனந்தக் கண்ணீர் விட்டுக் கொண்டது நம் மனதை என்னவோ செய்தது.

எங்கள் ஊர் நெய்வேலியில் இருந்து காரிலும், பேருந்துகளிலும் ரசிகர்கள் வந்து தத்தம் பேனர்களுக்கு மாலை அணிவித்து மகிழ்ந்தனர். கடலூர் லாரன்ஸ் சாலையில் மிகப் பெரிய பேனர் வைக்கப்பட்டு போவோர் வருவோர் அனைவரையும் அண்ணாந்து பார்க்க வைத்தது. அகில இந்திய ரசிகர் மன்ற பொருளாளர் திரு ராஜேந்திரன் அவர்கள் இந்த பேனரை வைத்து பெருமையைத் தட்டிச் சென்றார். கிருஷ்ணாலயா திரையரங்கிலிருந்து வேல்முருகன் திரையரங்கு வரை பேனர்கள் இடம் பிடித்திருந்தன. பேனர்களுக்கு பாலாபிஷேகம் செய்யப்பட்டு பட்டாசுகள் கொளுத்தப் பட்டன. கடலூரின் மெயின் இடம் என்பதால் பொது மக்கள் அனைவரும் எல்லா அமர்க்களங்களையும் வியந்து பார்த்தபடியே சென்றனர். திரையரங்கின் நுழைவு வாயிலில் வாழை மரங்கள் கட்டப் பட்டு உள்நுழைவு வாயில் வரை தரை நெடுகிலும் பூக்கள் தூவப் பட்டிருந்தன.

டிக்கெட் கவுண்டர் அருகே சமுக்காளம் விரிக்கப்பட்டு மேளம், மற்றும் நாதஸ்வர இசை இசைக்கப்பட்டது. ரசிகர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் முன்னதாகவே மொத்தமாக டிக்கெட் வாங்கி, மீதமுள்ள டிக்கெட்கள் கவுண்டரில் வழங்கப்பட்டன. சரியாக 6.30 க்கெல்லாம் படம் துவங்கப் பட்டு விட்டது. கைத் தட்டலும், ஆரவாரமும் அடங்கவே இல்லை. திரையரங்கினுள் எல்லோருக்கும் இனிப்பு வழங்கப் பட்டது. கிட்டத்தட்ட full house தான். படம் முழுவதும் நடிகர் திலகத்தின் ஒவ்வொரு அசைவுக்கும் காதைப் பிளக்கும் கரவொலி தான். நடிகர் திலகம் வரும் முக்கியமான காட்சிகளில் திரையரங்கில் சுழல் விளக்கை சுழலவிட்டு ஒளிமயமாகவும், வண்ணமயமாகவும் ஆக்கி திரையரங்க ஊழியர்கள் மேலும் சிறப்பு சேர்த்தது சூப்பர்.

குப்பைகள் பொறுக்கி வயிற்றுப் பிழைப்பு நடத்தும் ஒரு முதியவர் மிக ஆர்வமாக இருபது ரூபாய் டிக்கெட்டில் படம் பார்த்தது அனைவரையும் மெய் சிலிர்க்க வைத்தது.

படம் முடிந்து வெளி வரும் போது இரவுக் காட்சிக்கு நல்ல கூட்டம் இருந்தது. நாங்கள் நெய்வேலி வந்து சேர்ந்தவுடன் கடலூர் நண்பர்கள் இரவுக் காட்சியும் அரங்கு நிறைந்து விட்டாதாக தொலைபேசியில் கூறியதும் நடிகர் திலகத்தை அசைக்க எவராலும் இயலாது என்பது மீண்டும் உறுதியாயிற்று.

ரசிகர் மன்ற நற்பணிக்காக திரையரங்கின் உள்ளேயே நடிகர் திலகத்தின் அரிய புகைப்படங்கள் ஸ்டாலினுள் தியேட்டர் நிர்வாகத்தால் விற்பனைக்கு வைக்கப் பட்டிருந்தன. இதற்கான விளம்பர சிலைடும் தியேட்டரில் போடப்பட்டது. பல ரசிகர்கள் தலைவர் புகைப்படங்களை ஆர்வமுடன் வாங்கிச் சென்றனர். சிறப்பாகப் பணி புரிந்ததற்காக மன்ற நிர்வாகிகள் சிலருக்கு தியேட்டர் நிர்வாகம் சார்பில் தலைவரின் புகைப்படங்கள் பரிசாக வழங்கப்பட்டது.

Watched Karnan today @ Brooke fields today at Coimbatore. The show was housefull. It was good to see present generation people coming to watch the movie.The print was good. But the sound was fabulous. It was a gala atmosphere. 15 min of the movie was cut. Intro scene of Nadigar thilagam could not be heard due to claps. Similarly the scene where he becomes a king , scene of Ramados. Nadigar thilagam confrontation with O.A.k Devar particularly his laughter is a show stealer. Nadigarthilagam's love dialouge with S.a. Ashokan was well recieved.

N.T. Ramarao's intro also drew applause.

Many People Cried during Ulathil Nalla Ullam song.

Shanthi Theatre, First Airconditioned Theatre of Chennai, was inaugurated on 12.01.1961 by Shri K. Kamaraj, then Chief Minister of Madras State. A movie on Lord Venkateswara was screened during the inauguration.

The first film of Nadigar Thilagam (who later on took possession of the Theatre), was Buddha Pictures Paavamannippu, released on 16.03.1961. A multi-star cast film which included Gemini Ganesan, Devika, Saavithiri, T.S. Balaiah, S.V. Subbiah, M.V. Rajamma and others. Music by Viswanathan-Ramamurthi, lyrics Kannadasan. The film was based on religious harmony and was an instant hit and became the first Tamil film to be screened for 25 weeks at an A/C Theatre.

Sivaji Ganesan and his tutor K.D.Santhanam

Renowned script writer and director Aroordhas (born 1931) has a five decade track record in Tamil movie history. His stage name Aroordhas is a clipped version of his full village cum personal name of Tiruvaroor Aarokiyadhas. His memoir book, Naan Muham Paartha Cinema Kannadigal [The Cinema Mirrors I have Looked At; Kalaignan Publishers, Chennai, 2002, 224 pages] carries a delightful collection of anecdotes on the personalities who moved the movie world of South India. I was rather touched by a reminiscence provided by Aroordhas on Sivaji Ganesan in section 18 of the book (pages 109-113). I provide my English translation of this entire section below.

“The Madurai Mangala Bala Gaana Sabha was a drama troupe managed by Ethaartham Ponnusami Pillai of Thiruvathavoor, Madurai. This troupe stationed themselves in Tiruchi and conducted dramas at the Thevar Hall.

From Sangili Aanda Puram, a boy aged 6 or 7 had joined this drama troupe with his friend, a neighbor’s son. In this drama troupe, there was a Tamil tutor (Vaathiaar) who taught drama and Tamil to the young charges. He was short in stature and was extremely strict. With or without sense, this tutor punished his young charges by cane beating, even for smallest errors. Because of this, the young boys had their bowel leaks, when they saw or even dreamt about this extreme disciplinarian cum tutor. In their dreams, he appeared like a charging lion.

But that Tamil tutor had a great gift. He could compose beautiful, rhyming Tamil songs based on poetic grammar. One day, at the stage, that boy from Sangili Aanda Puram was acting in the role of a young widow. And by carelessness on that day, he was wearing a blouse. This had been noticed by that disciplinatrian tutor.

In that era, wearing blouse by widows was rather inappropriate according to societal norms. At the end of the scene, that Tamil tutor harshly gave a cane beating to that young boy; ‘Can’t you be so careless and unrealistic in your profession?’ was the complaint against that young boy.

Guess who was that young charge, who received such a beating? Maestro Sivaji Ganesan. Who was that cane-loving tutor? My most respectful and admired elder and great poet, K.D.Santhanam (S).

43 years ago, during the shooting of the movie ‘Pasa Malar’, I met elder K.D.S. at the old Neptune Studio and paid my respects. In that movie, when Sivaji Ganesan (the hero) becomes rich, he is met by a character named ‘Rajaratnam’. KD.Santhanam played that character.

That young charge V.C.Ganesan never forgot about, in his illustrious career, from whom he received the cane-beating and from whose beating he learnt the alphabets of acting and Tamil diction. It was he, after establishing his fame in the movie world, who recommended his harsh disciplinarian tutor for that particular character in his great movie.

During the shooting days, Sivaji would be seated outdoors near the shooting floor with crossed legs and be in conversation with me, while having a cigarette in his lips. Then, elder K.D.Santhanam would occasionally pass us from the make-up room towards the shooting floor. At the instant when Sivaji sees his old tutor, he would dutifully stand up in respect, and hide the cigarette behind his back. Though noticing that homage silently, the old tutor K.D.S. pretend ignoring us and with bowed head pass us quietly.

It would touch my heart, when watching that simple, elegant and meaningful respect Sivaji paid for his old tutor. What a class! What a grateful protégé! I mention this anecdote because the younger generation should be informed of this humility and gratitude shown by maestro Sivaji.

Once, after K.D.S. had passed us and went beyond the listening distance, Sivaji sat back and told me: ‘Aarooran! On this Santhanam tutor (Santhana Vaathi) who passed us. The amount of beating I got from him isn’t a few. During dance training (when a step is missed for a beat), during dialogue training (when a word is missed), he beat us severely! Oh Mother – He’d chase and chase us and beat us! Even when he went to the toilet, he carried his cane. Now he is passing us like a young girl with head turned towards the floor. Even when I thought about him in those days, I’d shiver.’

I asked him jokingly: ‘Then, why did you recommend him for this role?’

[Sivaji said] ‘You don’t know. Because of those beatings I received from his hand, I’m now sitting comfortably like this as Sivaji Ganesan. When I joined the drama troupe, I was a zero. From him only, I learnt how to speak dialogue and how to act. Do you know, what a classy Tamil poet he is? What a poetic touch he carried in his hands? The songs he wrote for the Ambikapathi [1957] movie I acted: Ah! What sweet Tamil, and what lilting rhythm! I tolerated all those beatings because of his blessed Tamil knowledge. Otherwise, I’d have quit the troupe and ran back to my home during any one of those nights.’

Later, when elder K.D.S. was alone at the shooting floor, I approached him and politely mused;

“Elder Sir, I’ve heard that you gave severe beating to Sivaji Annan in his young days.’

[K.D.S.] ‘Oh! He has told you about that. Oh! That was in those days. Now I’m becoming senile. I cannot remember your script now. Not only that, when Thambi Ganesan stand in front of me, shouldn’t I look at his face and deliver my dialogue? When I look at him now, I’m getting nervous! Because of that, can you prepare me for my dialogue by repeating your script not once but four times? It may be a bother. Kindly oblige.’

How Time did change? The same great tutor who taught dialogue to Sivaji Ganesan in his young days, with disciplinary cane at his hand, now he feels nervous to stand in front of his illustrious protégé, and ask me to prepare him well for a scene in which he faces his protégé.”

When I read these pages from Aroordhas’s book, I was touched by three inter-twined elements;

(1) a thankful protégé’s devotion to an extremely strict, but sincere, mentor,

(2) repayment of intellectual debt by an esteemed protégé, and

(3) the mentor’s heart-felt pride on the grade made by his protégé.

What Sivaji Ganesan said of the touching poetic feel of his mentor K.D.Santhanam was no exaggeration. The 16 lines of that one sweet melody in the Ambikapathi [a historical love yarn set in the 12th century Chola Kingdom, along the lines of the more popular Romeo-Juliet story] movie, beginning with the lines ‘Kannile Iruppathenna Kanni Ila Maane’ and sung by P.Bhanumathi as well as T.M.Soundararajan were from the fertile mind of K.D.Santhanam.

I happend to see the KARNAN movie in Kovai yesterday at Darsan Theatre Evening Show, beleive me the matinee and evening show was full.

Btw, the theater person who issues the ticket told me with pride that TODAY STAR'S MOVIE COLLECTION'S WE HAVE RECEIVED for Karnan. Infact Raj TV has visited this theater to take the opinion poll.

All the families with childern and grandparents have come to see this movie.

WHICH ACTOR CAN PULL CROWD EVEN AFTER A DECADE, our LEGEND IS GREAT! ONLY NADIGAR THILAGAN CAN DO IT...

I enjoyed every moment of the film and wat a STYLE AND ROARING PERFORMACE OF OUR GREAT GANESAN.

Again Karan has given the collection to theatre and happiness to all those grandparents/parents and MORAL lessons to the next generation.

The 1964 movie about one of the flawed but fascinating characters from the Mahabharata and featuring a multi-star cast has been restored using modern digital technology and is being re-released this week.

Very often, we tend to interchangeably use the terms 'classic' and a 'masterpiece'. But, a classic need not be a masterpiece. While a masterpiece is often the greatest (and near perfect) work among an artist's efforts, a classic - while not being the greatest - is something that is long-lasting and loved by the public. And, the fact that a classic isn't a masterpiece doesn't take away anything from it. Far from it, it is its ability to stand the tests of time - despite its imperfections - that make it unique and cherished.

B R Panthulu's Karnan certainly belongs to this latter category. As a cinematic work, it is as flawed as its titular character. The pacing is uneven, the complexities of the plot are overtly simplified, the songs are one too many (but what songs they are!) and the narrative isn't tightly structured -scenes do not segue into the next smoothly but with a randomness that can at times be unsettling. Take for example the scene in which Subhangi, wife of Karnan, returns to her husband after forcibly being taken home immediately after the wedding by her royal dad who ridicules Karnan on account of his lowly birth. She consoles her husband and breaks out into a song (the exquisite Kannukku Kulam Yedhu) and once it ends, we are told that Subhangi is pregnant, while, going by what we saw on screen, it should have been only a matter of days since their marriage!

But all such niggles recede far into the background when you immerse yourself into the spirited performances. To the modern movie-goer, Sivaji's performance might seem over the top (he even literally roars back when mocked by his father-in-law) but it is a performance that is in perfect sync with the tone of the movie. This is a pitch-perfect larger-than-life performance that will move you in the sentimental scenes, stir you in the romantic ones, make you laugh in the comic moments and rouse you in the battle scenes.

And N T Rama Rao's Krishna is inarguably the definitive portrayal of the Lord on screen. His scene stealing act, with sly smiles and all knowing glances, is one of the delights of the film. In this age of bad lip syncs and limp performances, these portrayals have energy that makes the movie dynamic and prove why a film cannot stand on its own without an actor.

Coming to the restoration, this too is far from perfect but is certainly a praiseworthy attempt, considering that the film had to be salvaged from badly-damaged negatives. There are shots that are jittery, unfocussed and the transition points between scenes seem faded compared to the shots before and after them; at times, you also see a distracting fluorescent patch on the screen. But, on the whole, the quality of the picture is remarkable with the bright colours accentuating the opulence of the scenes. The 5.1 DTS soundtrack, which has been recorded anew for this re-release, complements the visuals and never sounds modern, though, in the climatic scenes, the background music is a tad too overpowering, drowning out the dialogues.

At a time when we are praising international films like 'The Artist' and 'Hugo' for creating awareness in film history, it is essential that we don't ignore such desi attempts, if only for the fact that their success is bound to make more and more people from the industry take interest in preserving our rich film heritage.

Chennai Shanti Theatre was jampacked on 18.03.2012 from the morning itself. Bangalore Sivaji Fans brought a huge garland (the value of garland alone around Rs.50000/-, leave alone transportation and labour). It was truly the upmanship of NT whose command now is unquestionably supreme and who is the real box office king (through the 90% Houseful shows throughout the 70 odd theatres).

சிவாஜியுடன் 32 ஆண்டுகாலம் பணியாற்றிய ஒய்.ஜி.மகேந்திரா அவரது தீவிர ரசிகர் மட்டுமல்ல அவரது பெயரில் நடிகர் திலகம் ஃபேன்ஸ் அசோசியேஷன் என்கிற அமைப்பினை ஆரம்பித்து மாதம் ஒரு சிவாஜி படம் திரையிட்டு அதில் பங்கு கொண்ட கலைஞர்களை அழைத்து கலந்துரையாடல்கள் போன்றவற்றையும் நடத்தி வருகிறார். முதல் படமாக பார்த்தால் பசி தீரும் திரையிடப்பட்டது. அந்தப் படத்தில் நடித்த செளகார் ஜானகி சிறப்பு அழைப்பாளாராகக் கலந்து கொண்டு சிவாஜியைப் பற்றிய மலரும் நினைவுகளைப் பதிவு செய்தார்.

தாய் எட்டடி பாய்ந்தால் குட்டி பதினாறடி பாயும் என்று சொல்வார்கள். அதற்கிணங்க ஒய்ஜி மகேந்திராவின் மகள் மதுவந்தி அருணும் தீவிர சிவாஜி ரசிகை. உலகத்தரத்தில் காலிபர் பள்ளிக்கூடம் நடத்தி வருகிறார். தனது பள்ளிக் குழந்தைகள் தமிழ் மொழியின் இனிமையையும் கம்பீரத்தையும் உணரும் பொருட்டும் ழகர றகரங்களைச் சரியாக உச்சரிக்கும் பொருட்டும் மகா நடிகன் சிவாஜிகணேசனை அந்த மாணவர்களுக்கு ஆசானாக்கியிருக்கிறார் என்றால் அது மிகையல்ல. தனது காலிபர் பள்ளிக் குழந்தைகளை கர்ணன் படம் பார்க்க அழைத்துச் செல்லவிருக்கிறார். படத்தின் முன்னோட்டங்களைத் தங்களது பள்ளிக் கணிப்பொறிகளில் பார்த்த குழந்தைகளும் கர்ணன் படத்தைப் பார்க்க மிகவும் ஆவலோடு இருக்கிறார்கள்.

மதுவந்தியின் இந்த செயல் வேறு சில தனியார் பள்ளி முதல்வர்களையும் கவர்ந்துள்ளது. விரைவில் கர்ணன் படம் ஓடிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் திரையரங்கில் அதிக அளவில் பள்ளிச் சீருடைகளைக் காணலாம்.

சிவாஜியின் ஏற்ற இறக்கங்களுடனும் சரியான மாத்திரைகளுடனுமான வசன உச்சரிப்பு அவரைப் பின் தொடர்ந்து வந்த நடிக நடிகைகளுக்கு மட்டும் ஆசானாக இருக்காமல் வளரும் தலைமுறைகளுக்கும் ஆசானாக இருப்பது தமிழுள்ளளவும் அவரது பெருமை இருக்கும் என்கிற நிலை மாறி சிவாஜியின் பெருமைகள் பேசப்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கும் வரை தமிழும் வாழும் என்கிற நிலைமைக்கு நம்மை இட்டுச் சென்றிருக்கிறது.

It looks like Karnan is the first digitized remade super-hit movie in India - not just in TN. I guess Dilipkumar's Mughal-e-azam didn't run well when it was remade...? can someone enlighten this?

We need more theater alapparai's here........... after all, this NT epic was re-released in historic 74+ movie halls, which is a historic proportion that no other actors, including his rivals, could dare to touch it. please post more festivities from other districts / centers, from all centers: A, B and C centers.

the gigantic success shows our Karnan NT is evergreen kodai vallal - always mints money to producers / distributors.

Today had some work in malleshwaram and I passed thro' natraj theatre just to see whether release posters have been put up or not,but the situation there was amazing.Already more than 10 banners have been put up,one with karnan image and the release ads garlanded.scaffolding work was in full swing for erecting the cutout.if this is the case one day before release just imagine the scene on sunday.NADIGAR THILAGAM ROCKS

Sivakamiyin Selvan was not a flop. It might not have ran for 100 days but it was a huge commercial success. In almost all the releasing centres it had completed 9 weeks. In our Madurai it was 10 weeks and the maximum run came at Chennai Devi Paradise where it ran for 76 days. There too it had to be shifted because another NT movie Vani Rani came there. SS was released on 26th Jan of 1974 and it ran till April 11th. On 12th April, Vani- Rani was released.

In our Madurai Sri Devi theatre, the film celebrated 104 continuous House Full shows in the sense all the shows screened in the first 31 days were House full. In Sri Lanka it was a huge hit and it surpassed many a collection record there.

Being a remake of a very successful movie, people tend to compare and that might have given you this impression.

Another interesting tidbit is, this movie was re-released last year in Madurai Central on 31st March, Friday. Sunday the 2nd Of April was the day when Cricket World Cup Final was played. In spite of that this movie attracted a huge audience and it collected around 54-55 K in that one week which was a tremendous achievement.

These are the info, I am able to recollect immediately. There are other interesting facts also.

ஆனால் ஒரு விஷயம் என்னவென்றால் கர்ணனின் வெற்றி பழைய நடிகர் திலகத்தின் படங்களின் விநியோக உரிமையை விலை ஏற்றி விட்டு விட்டது. மெருக்கேற்றலோ டிடிஎஸ் போன்ற விஷயங்கள் செய்யாமல் சாதாரணமாக வெளியிடுவதற்கு கூட [சென்ற மாதம் தங்கப்பதக்கம் வெளியானது போல] இப்போது அதிக விலை சொல்கிறார்கள். வினியோகஸ்த நண்பர் ஒருவர் நடிகர் திலகத்தின் நல்ல வெற்றி படம் ஒன்றை வாங்குவதற்கு விலை பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். சென்ற வாரம் வரை சொன்ன விலையை திடீரென்று கர்ணனின் ரிலீசிற்கு பிறகு அப்படியே கூட்டி கேட்கிறார் தற்போதைய உரிமையாளர்.

இதை சொல்லும் போது வேறு ஒரு விஷயம் கூட குறிப்பிட வேண்டும். சென்னை பகுதி திரைப்பட விநியோகஸ்தர்களின் அலுவலகங்கள் அமைந்திருக்கும் மீரான் சாஹிப் தெருவில் கூட நமது படங்களைப் பற்றிய ஒரு ஏளன பார்வை இருந்தது. சிவாஜி படங்களை யார் பார்ப்பார்கள் என்று கேள்வி கேட்டவர்கள் எல்லாம் புதிய பறவை, கெளரவம், ராஜபார்ட் ரங்கதுரை திருவருட்செல்வர் போன்ற படங்களின் வெளியீட்டிற்கு பிறகு வாயடைத்துப் போனார்கள். ஒரு சிலர் அதன் பிறகும் நக்கல் செய்வதை நிறுத்தவில்லை. கர்ணன் சென்னையில் மட்டும் கிட்டத்தட்ட 10 அரங்குகளில் வெளியாகிறது என்றதும் அவர்களில் ஓரிருவர் நமது மேலே குறிப்பிட்டுள்ள வினியோகஸ்த நண்பரிடம் கேட்ட கேள்வி என்ன தெரியுமா " என்னப்பா ஒவ்வொரு தியேட்டரிலும் ஒரு 50 பேர் படம் பாப்பாங்களா?" அதற்கு நண்பர் சொன்ன பதில் "50 பேர் இல்லை. ஒரு 60 பேர் பார்ப்போம்". அவர்கள் எல்லோரும் படம் வெளியான பிறகு நமது நண்பர் முகத்தை பார்த்தாலே தெறித்து ஓடுகிறார்களாம்.

பத்மினி புரொடக்ஷன்ஸ் ‘சபாஷ் மீனா’ என்ற முழுநீள நகைச்சுவைப் படத்தை எடுக்க விரும்பினார்கள். கதாநாயகனாக நடிக்க சிவாஜியிடம் பேசினார்கள். கதையைக் கேட்டார் சிவாஜி. அதில் நாயகன் பாத்திரத்துக்கு இணையாக படம் முழுவதும் வரும் மற்றொரு நகைச்சுவை கலந்த முக்கிய கதாபாத்திரம் ஒன்று இருந்தது. ‘‘அந்த கேரக்டருககு சந்திரபாபுவைப் போட்டா ரொம்ப நல்லா இருக்கும்’’ என்று சொன்னார் சிவாஜி. ப.நீலகண்டன் ‘சபாஷ் மீனா’ படத்தின் கதை, சந்திரபாபுவின் கதாபாத்திரம், சிவாஜி சொன்ன கருத்து ஆகியவற்றை சந்திரபாபுவிடம் சொன்னார்.


‘‘மிஸ்டர் சிவாஜி ஒரு நல்ல பிரமாதமான ஆக்டர். Got a copy of VCD of Enai Pol oruvan. It was a gud movie. Really enjoyed it. Heard that it was in making 4 many years. It was a masala gud movie. Nadigar thilagam was very lean, suave & gud luking. Nadigar thilagam as a patient without any salanam in his face & Sundaramoorthy Sivaji acting was very comical. Members pl don't mistake me I regularly watch N.T. movies @ least 4 per week. so I will ask doubts pl give a patient ear to clarify.

My Take on Karnan:
Iam 26 Years of age. Iam a fresher Company Secretary. I had watched Karnan many times in Video Cassettes. First I didn’t like Karnan. Later I was given a DVD by my college friend. After watching it I was astonished and bought my own copy.
Now I had watched Karnan 2 times in two weeks in theatre. Techincally The movie was good. Though the print was initially bad & took around 25 min to settle. But sound was really good.
When I first saw nadigar thilagam on screen in chariot tears rolled down in my eyes. When he said his first dialogue after knowing that he is an orphan it was like WOW. He had tears in that whole scene and his eyes was red.
Next scene that Vil Vithai scene. Asokan was equally good. His challenge to Muthuraman was just over powering him. It established that a defect(an Orphan to salvage his prestige becomes arrogant).
Next a Lion gets crowned as King and introduced as friend to his eyMrs. Savithiri . Song was pure melody.
Scene with a (child) was outstanding.
Encounter with Indiran:
Dialouges drew full applause. His reaction knowing that Indiran has come to seek alms was like a person with a sense of pride with a drop of “ anandha Kanner” also.
Love Scenes with Devika Mam was with twinkle in eyes bubbly.
Dream scene in which NT get caught was hilarious.
NT confrontation with OAK Devar “ Mamaan & Mamman anavan” ethugamonai and his subsequent roar drew huge applause (across TN)
Next Darbar scene encounter with NTR .
NTR & Asokan had their share of applause & NT took back seat.
NT scene with his mother:
Dialogues could not be heard claps, tears. Particularly his justification of Duriyodhana’s character, friendship (Uyir illum mellana Natpai) was fabulous.
Giving boons to his mother after saying “ dharmam vazha vendum athuku ippudi seya endum Naan Maruthu enna aga poguthu” indicates that he knows the final outcome and assures u will have 5 sons anyway was a scene stealer.

Nominating people to lead the war:
NT was neglected due to his birth & he roars with a huge cry a store house of acting.
Final Encounter:
Bishmer dies , his son dies & karnan comes to battle field with vengeance. He ignores Salliyan advices loses Naga asthiram. Chariot stops.
Karnan is attacked but does not die. Audiences are in tears as Ulathil Nalla Ullam song is on screen. I barely could not watch it because of tears. NT acting was like out of the world even his face was with fly indicating death naturally knowing well Kannan has come to save Arjunan he gives his Dharma Pallan.

Divya Films :The product was good but not to an extent that you claimed but Kudos to your team you surely need a Pat on your back.
Iam a fan of Rajini, Kamal & Ajith.
I also like old movies including MGR.
But Sivaji is like my God, Family person, Father figure.
Now That Karnan has become Karnan for theatre owners, distributors.
NT has proved his box office strength.
NT has attracted family crowds. From 6 to 80
I saw many old people coming with their grand children . Children asks questions about the movie . It indicates their interest in that movie.
NT movies brings family crowds to theatres.
Just like Trisoolam in 1979, Murattu Kaalai in 80’s , Annamalai in 90’s, Baasha in 95, Gemini in 2000, Gilli in 2001, Chandramukhi in 2002
Note: All the above mentioned movies were first release. But karnan was considered as a flop with another movie V--------N. But after 48 years karnan is a cult classic & other movie which released with is ok but------------- (Laughter in NT style)

Thanks Ragulram for your lengthy post about NT and this is what fans like us say about NT and even after 100 years some one like Ragulram will write similar post like this after watching a movie of NT and that time no one remember about any other actor, that is power of NT.

Your whole heart appreciation is 1000 times better than Oscar and who cares to buy Oscar award.

Long live NT fame.

24-3-2012 இரவு 9.00 மணிக்கு நெய்வேலியில் இருந்து பெங்களூருக்கு பயணமானேன். அடுத்த நாள் காலை 7.00 மணியளவில் பெங்களூர் சென்றாகி விட்டது.

பெங்களூரு ரசிகர்கள் அமர்க்களமாக வரவேற்றனர். சென்னையில் இருந்தும் ரசிகர்கள் காலை 7.00 மணிக்கெல்லாம் வரத் துவங்கி விட்டனர். காலையிலேயே தலைவர் புகைப்படங்கள் ஜரூராக விற்கத் துவங்கி விட்டன. எங்கு பார்த்தாலும் தலைவர் பேனர்கள். தியேட்டர் முகப்பின் இருபுறமும் இரண்டு பிரம்மாண்ட கட்-அவுட்கள்.

ரசிகர்கள் மாலைகளுடன் வந்த வண்ணம் இருந்தனர். எத்தனை மாலைகள்! எவ்வளவு டிசைன்கள்! காலையில் இருந்தே ஒரே திருவிழாக் கோலம் தான். ஒவ்வொரு மாலையும் பிரம்மாண்டத்தின் அடையாளமாய் இருந்தது. மூங்கில் கழிகள், பந்தல்கள், கொடிகள், தோரணங்கள் நடராஜை முழுவதும் ஆக்கிரமித்து இருந்தன. தியேட்டர்களின் முகப்பே தெரியாத அளவுக்கு அத்தனை பேனர்கள். மெயின் சாலையை ஒட்டி நடராஜ் தியேட்டர் இருந்தததால் போவோர் வருவோர் அனைவரும் ஏதோ திருவிழாக் காட்சியைக் காண்பது போல் நடிகர் திலகம் பேனர்கள் மற்றும் கட்-அவுட்களுக்கு சூட்டப்படும் மாலைகளை வாய் பிளந்து பார்த்தனர்.

வாசல் முகப்பில் கர்நாடகா சிவாஜி மன்றம் என்ற பெரிய பேனர். நேரம் செல்ல செல்ல கூட்டம் அதிகரித்தது. ரசிகர்கள் வேனிலும் ஆட்டோவிலும் மாலைகளையும் பூக்களையும் அள்ளிக் கொண்டு வந்தனர்.

நமது அன்பு ஹப்பர் குமரேசன்பிரபு அவர்கள் மிகப் பெரிய சாதனை நிகழ்த்திக் காட்டினார் என்பது நாம் அனைவரும் பெருமை அடைய வேண்டிய விஷயம்.

அவர் இருக்கும் பகுதியான சிவாஜி நகர் முத்தாலம்மன் கோவில் ஏரியாவில் சிறு குடோன் போன்ற ஒரு இடத்தில் இரு பிரம்மாண்டமான ராட்சஷ மாலைகள் குமரேசன் சார் மேற்பார்வையில் தயாராயின. அதைக் காண நானும், சகோதரி கிரிஜா, நவீன் மற்றும் சில நண்பர்கள் சென்றிருந்தோம். கிட்டத்தட்ட இருபது பேருக்கு மேல் இரு மாலைகளையும் உருவாக்கும் வேலைகளில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தனர். மதியம் மூன்று மணி வரையில் மாலைகள் தயாரித்து முடிக்கும் பணி நடை பெற்றது. பின் இரு வேன்களில் மாலைகள் ஏற்றப்பட்டு கிட்டத்தட்ட மூன்று கிலோமீட்டர்கள் ஊர்வலம் நடை பெற்றது. ஊர்வலத்தில் ரசிகர்களின் உற்சாகம் கரைபுரண்டு ஓடியது. வேன்களில் தலைவர் பாடல்கள் ஒலிக்க ரசிகர்கள் சாலைகளில் தன்னை மறந்து தலைவர் புகழ் வாழ்க! சிம்மக்குரலோன் புகழ் வாழ்க! என்று நடனமாடியபடியே வந்தததை சாலையின் இருமருங்கிலும் கூடியிருந்த மக்கள் கண்டு களித்தனர். ஊர்வலம் தியேட்டரை நெருங்கியவுடன் (மாலை 5.00 மணி) தியேட்டரில் குழுமியிருந்த ஆயிரக்கணக்கான ரசிகர்கள் வாழ்த்துக் கோஷம் விண்ணைப் பிளந்தது. காவல் துறையினர் குவிக்கப்பட்டனர்.

தியேட்டரிலும், தியேட்டரை சுற்றியும் ஒரே மக்கள் வெள்ளம் தான். ஜனசமுத்திரம் போல கூட்டம். அப்போது ஆரம்பித்த அமர்க்களம் இரவு எட்டு மணிவரை ஓயவே இல்லை. அந்த அலப்பரையை எப்படி எழுதுவது என்றும் தெரியவில்லை. நடராஜ் தியேட்டரே கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியவில்லை. மாலைகள்! மாலைகள்! மாலைகள்! எங்கு நோக்கினும் பிரம்மாண்டமான மாலைகள் தாம்.

தாரை தப்பட்டைகள் என்ன! பேண்டு வாத்தியங்கள் என்ன! எங்கும் உற்சாகக் கூக்குரல்கள். சாலை ஸ்தம்பித்தது. எங்கும் மக்கள் வெள்ளம்.
கற்பூரங்கள் எரிந்து கொண்டே இருந்தன. இளைஞர்கள் கூட்டம் எக்கச்சக்கம். ஒரே குத்தாட்டமயம் தான். பட்டாசுகளின் சத்தம். அதுமட்டுமல்ல. விண்ணில் சீறிப் பாய்ந்து வெடிக்கும் சரமத்தாப்புகள். ஆகாயமெங்கும் சிதறிய மத்தாப்புக்களின் வண்ணச் சிதறல்கள். எங்கு பார்த்தாலும் தலைவர் சிவாஜி வாழ்க! என்ற கோஷங்கள். பெரியவர் சிறியவர் என்ற பேதமே இல்லாமல் அனைவரும் ஒருவரை ஒருவர் ஆரத் தழுவிக்கொண்டு, தலைவர் புகழ் பாடிக் கொண்டு... ஆஹா... காணக் கண்கோடி வேண்டும். கர்நாடகா காவல்துறையினரும் நல்ல ஒத்துழைப்பு தந்தனர். ஒரு கட்டத்தில் ரசிகர்களின் உற்சாகம் எல்லை மீற லேசான தடியடிப் பிரயோகமும் நடந்தது. தலைவர் படங்களுக்கு பூஜை புனஸ்காரங்கள் செய்யப்பட்டன.

பெரிய அளவு கேக் ஒன்று வெட்டப் பட்டு ரசிகர்களுக்கு விநியோகிக்கப் பட்டது. அன்னதானங்களும் நடந்தன. இதற்கு மத்தியில் தலைவரின் இரு கட்-அவுட்களுக்கும் குமரேசன் சாரின் தலைமையில் கொண்டு வரப்பட்ட ராட்சஷ மாலைகள் போடப் பட்டன. மாலைகளின் மிகப்பெரிய குஞ்சத்தின் உள்ளே வண்ண விளக்குகள் பிரகாசித்து கண்களைப் பறித்தது. இளம் தலைமுறையினரான அஜீத் ரசிகர்கள் விழாவில் கலந்து கொண்டு 'சிவாஜி வாழ்க' என்று விண்ணை முட்டும் கோஷங்களை எழுப்பியது ஆச்சர்யமாய் இருந்தது.

மீடியாக்காரர்களும், ரசிகர்களும், பொதுமக்களும்,ஒரு சில வெளிநாட்டினரும் செல்போனிலும், கேமராக்களினாலும்,வீடியாக் காமிராக்களினாலும் கட்-அவுட்களுக்கு சாத்தப்பட்ட பிரம்மாண்ட மாலைகளையும்,நிகழ்வுகளையும் படம் பிடித்துக் கொண்டே இருந்தனர்.

நம்முடைய அன்பு ஹப்பர் திரு.ஹரிஷ் அவர்களை முதன்முதலாக நேரில் சந்த்தித்து எனக்கு மிகுந்த மனமகிழ்ச்சியை அளித்தது.

இரவு எட்டு மணிக்கு first show தொடங்கியது. ஆனால் நான்தான் போக முடியவில்லை. அடுத்த நாள் பணிக்கு செல்லவேண்டியிருந்ததால் நான் இரவு ஒன்பது மணிக்கெல்லாம் நெய்வேலிக்கு பஸ் ஏறி விட்டேன். ஆனால் 'வசந்த மாளிகை' பிரின்ட் சுமார்தான் என்று நண்பர்கள் கூறினர். எது எப்படியோ! இப்படி ஒரு கோலாகல கண்ணைப் பறிக்கும் உற்சாகத் திருவிழாவை நான் இதுவரை கண்டதில்லை என்றுதான் சொல்ல வேண்டும்.

அன்பு ஹப்பர் குமரேசன் சார் நான் தங்குவதற்காக லாட்ஜ் ஏற்பாடு செய்து கொடுத்ததற்காக அவருக்கு என் மனமார்ந்த நன்றிகள். இந்த விழாவில் அவர் எறும்பு போல் சுறுசுறுப்பாக சுழன்று பணியாற்றியது பெருமைப்பட வைத்தது.

அது தமிழ்நாடாக இருந்தாலும் சரி! கர்நாடக மாநிலமாக இருந்தாலும் சரி! ஆந்திர மாநிலமாயினும் சரி. வேறு எங்கு இருந்தாலும் சரி! தலைவருக்கு இருக்கும் செல்வாக்கும், பெரும் புகழும், ரசிகப் படையும் ஒரே விதமாகத் தான் இருக்கிறது. அதில் எந்த வேறுபாட்டையும் காண முடியவில்லை. அவர் மேல் இந்திய மக்கள் கொண்டுள்ள பரிபூரண அன்பையும், பாசத்தையும் நேற்று பரிபூரணமாக என்னால் உணர முடிந்தது. பலதரப்பட்ட பொதுமக்கள் ஒருசேர (ரசிகர்கள் அல்ல) வாயார தலைவர் புகழ் பாடியதை நேற்று என்னால் காண முடிந்தது. ஜாதி,சமயம், இனம், மொழி, மதம் இவைகளை கடந்து மக்கள் உள்ளங்களைக் கொள்ளை கொண்ட உத்தமபுத்திரர் அல்லவோ அவர்!

Company sees huge potential in digitising old films
Chennai, March 22:

On Thursday, Raj Television Network moved up by 5.33 per cent to close at Rs 133.45 on the BSE. This is despite the broadbased drop in BSE Sensex and the NSE's Nifty lost about two per cent during the day.

It registered a new 52-week high at Rs 135.50 during the day, which is more than three times its 52-week low of Rs 41.50 touched in August 2011. On the BSE, 62,000 shares changed hands in the counter, as against its daily average 52,000 shares in the last two weeks. Raj TV has been on the rise in the last three days after the company announced successful release of the digitised version of an old super hit Tamil film Karnan.

Mr M. Raajhendhran, Managing Director of the company, told Business Line, that it released the “new” Karnan in over 65 screens across Tamil Nadu. “It's running houseful in almost all theatres, turned out to be a huge success,” he said. According to him, the company has spent a “big money” on digitising the film.

In an announcement to the stock exchange, the company said that it has been exploring possibilities of digitising more films in the months to come. The company, according to the announcement, owns more than 3,000 movie rights in its library. “We see a huge potential in digitising old films in various languages too,” he said.

The small-cap TV broadcaster has equity capital of Rs 12.98 crore, with Rs 10 face-value shares. The company reported net profit of Rs 2.05 crore for the quarter ended December 31, compared with net loss of close to Rs 1 crore in the same period a year ago.

Net sales rose 87.4 per cent to Rs 13.94 crore during the quarter, from Rs 7.44 crore in the comparable previous year quarter.

The digitized version of Sivaji starrer Karnan is all set to explore more territories. The film will celebrate its 15-days of re-release and Chokkalingam and Shanthi Chokkalingam who spearheaded the digitization and re-release are all smiles. “Karnan is gaining momentum and more and more theatres are coming up to screen it not only in Chennai but also across Tamil Nadu,” says a beaming Chokklingam.

He adds that the reception has been good and it’s been receiving over-whelming response from Erode, Tirupur and Coimbatore. As the educational institutions will start their summer vacations soon, he expects that the film will do well in the coming weeks too. Mr Chokkalingam adds that talks are on to release the film in the US too. He says, “We are talking to Raj TV, who has got the rights for the film and soon the magnum opus will be released in the US. The film Karnan was released in 1964 and was one of the most expensive films of its times.
