Eh !! Unseletted. yaar sonnadhu ?
AFAIR Mongia kept like an angel to Kumble, who is arguably the most difficult bowler to keep up close. One miss and you'd concede byes. Dhoni used to concede plenty of byes to him - but in all fairness so would have most other keepers - except Mongia.

We are talking about being effective not abt being graceful... And to me MSD is representative of the change in the game where grace has been relegated.
Anyway for effectiveness I mentioned why those stats are misleading. % wickets captured by Murali and % of them done w/o Wk's help skew the stats for SL. If we compare then Sangakkara will appear to be a lesser keeper than Kamran Akmal !

adadaa kud question (esp to me ) - usually dont recall any matches with scores etc.. immly recall a match v pakis which he got retired hurt b4 which he and haynes (or richardson) had almost won the game for the windies - guess they won by 10 wkts. then against sa there was the quarterfinals of WC i guess where he even hit symcox for abt 5 boundaries in one over, he single handedly won that match for em.. and there were many more.. esp against aussies/pakis/southafrica and srilanka. when he used to open with haynes he was unstoppable (guess he averaged abt 47 odd b4 2000).. then with haynes gone and their middle order totally out of order he came either one or two down..
considering his arrival to the crease was mostly at 20/2 or 30/3 most of his innings were amazing!
if psbl wud try to get more accurate stuff later

He was retired hurt after getting 88. 92 WC. That was a low scoring match though. The innings I remember for his ODI exploits is this (http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/65858.html) one. Chasing 285 is very difficult those days, but he made it ridiculously easy. I also watched 169 vs SL in live telecast.

SarchA final 93/94.
284 was a competitive total to chase back then. Lara stomped Pakistan (http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/65858.html)
He mauled SriLanka when they were at their peak making 169. SL came very close.
Several innings against Aus and SA.
WC 96 QF century against SAFrica. Imagine WI was a side that had lost to Kenya. SA had won all 5 league matches and were going great guns. After Chanderpaul got out it was pretty much the tail.

According to me Lara's case was the worst version of Tendulkar's case. Tendulkar started with a pathetic team(Match fixers, no good-ers) which moved into an average team in the 00's to Middle Noughts and now he is in a good team. Even now I won't insist on the adjective "good". Our ODI Team is only good on paper. In the next world cup if i am to bet my 100$, i would still bet on the OZ's.
Poor Lara he started out with a relatively much much better team in the early 90's. They had good contributors (Richardson, Haynes, Hooper, Ambrose, Walsh, Bishop) which went to average and then to down right abysmal. He was always stranded in most occasions. Pala matches la avar mugathai paathale paavama irukkum. My opinion is it definitely affected him. I may be wrong but thats what I feel about it. The Frank- Worrell Trophy was a keenly contested series till the year 1998 and i used to love watching it.

I think it was the 01 satta sabai election (or) 99 Naadalumandra election in TN. Vaiko/MK were about to form an alliance. The strangle for Number of seats was awful and MK gave only few seats to the latter. Vaikks was obviously disgruntled about it. MK gave a latter intree saying that "thoguthigalla avvalo idam than thara mudiyum idhuku mela idhayathula than idam kodukka mudiyum".
.

#3 being specialised, adhai decide paNnittu, we'll have one poll for #4, #5 and #6 - adhula top 3 candidates-ai select paNNalAmA?
Or, we can try to divide candidates in 3 pools, such that there is team balance between #4, #5 and #6?
Like #4 competitors - De Silva, Ponting, Dravid, Inzy, Lara
Once we choose one among these, except possibly De Silva, we'll bar the rest from competing for #4? Because De Silva brings additional skills apart from specialist #3 skills. If De Silva wins #3, then maybe we can look at some of these guys like Lara for #4? Ok, I'll make my intentions clear, Ponting will be barred if he doesnt win #3 - others can compete for further positions :-).
For #4 - say, Lara:Sehwag(he wants #4):Yuvraj Singh(ha!ha!) etc
For #5 - Dravid
For #6 - Rhodes, Dhoni(as pure batsman!), Bevan etc with the focus on fielding, specialist finishing skills etc?
First #3 quick-A muicharalAm.

I think we are skipping great of players of early 90's.. even viv Richards played till 1990 if my memory goes well...
instead, we can set the benchmark for players who started their career from 90's.. this will avoid those early 90's heroes...

Hooper ofcourse played till mid 90s atleast with breaks inbetween.
Should we consider him for the all-rounder position later?

in fact, Hooper played till 2002.. he was the captain for India-WI ODI series which they won 3-2....
I don't consider him as a genuine all rounder...

Sathya, Steven Waugh? Apart from the magnificent "Son, you dropped the World Cup" innings, I can't remember too many special ODI knocks. Since you have Bevan anyways, wouldn't a hard-hitting-Klusener mode all-rounder be more effective in the team?

ODI World XI
Sachin Tendulkar - Enuff said :notworthy: :notworthy:
Adam Gilchrist - Very good even against good bowling attacks. Also an all-rounder as he allows us to play extra batsman or bowler.
Brian Lara - Big match player :notworthy:.
Aravinda De Silva - Was a fine player in ODIs. Apart from the usual specials, a couple from 2003 world cup - 90-odd in a hopeless losing cause against McGrath,Lee & co (World Cup winning bowling combination) and the 70-odd against SA on a difficult pitch (Match tied as SA didn't know how to read the DL sheet :rotfl:)
Inzamam ul-Haq - His pacing of the innings is less talked about. But during many chases he did it wonderfully. Has the ability to shift gears instantly and release pressure.
Michael Bevan - In an era where Taylor,Slater,et al left Aus in tatters at 40/3 or 50/3, Bevan was often their savior. Expert in pacing the chase.
Lance Klusener - Clean-hitter of the ball. Can bowl with some good pace as well.
Shane Warne - Captain .
Wasim Akram - Sultan of Swing :notworthy:
Waqar Younis - Death over specalist. Has the most 5-fors in ODIs. I don't think anyone is going to beat that record.
Glenn McGrath - Miserly and picks early wickets. Very effective in picking wickets in the middle overs as well.

I considered Inzy for middle order and younis for bowling slot. But for me, ODI player shud be very gud in 2 out of 3 departments. waugh, pollock, akram, cronje, rhodes slightly tilt the balance.
