More attempts and compromises needed to be made in our industry, to make a full movie to explore/show the grey areas ala Udhiri pookal or Sigappu rojakkal. And films with a traditional antagonist made of reprehensibility and deceitfulness, putting(trying to put) on a facade, like Pasupathy in Virumandi. ;)

Sense of humor among Villains is required as well - Nagesh in Aboorva Sagodharargal with remarkable repartee. :lol: I struggle to find anything closer to that, take a look at Kalabhavan Mani in Gemini, for crying out loud ! :sigh2:

ah, glad u reminded me abt udhiri pookkal......udhiri pookkal identified a realistic villain and it was sketched so un-dramatically yet you get jitters....it was hard hitting because the story skillfully brings out how one's sadism crisscrosses with somone else's "routine" path and damages them for no mistake of theirs.......i find it very scary (getting punished for no mistake of urs).........the scene where he misbehaves with his sis-in-law - its such a intense scene.......

mani, being a true mahendra sishyan - identified the real world villain for entire world movies(?) - we no longer were scared of mogambos and sadistic village pannayars - we had something real on our hands - terror and terrorists 8-)........i know i have been syaing this a lot of time but its worth mentioining here :D ......but mani refuses to go with the traditional characterisation of terrorist in roja and climax ends up a bit unbelievable nor the character has multiple shades like vijayan's character in uthiri pookkal....

the younger generation may conclude with Nasser and Raghuvaran.. I would like to see the NT, MT generations speaking on behalf of Nambiyaar.. Be it a period film or otherwise, Nambiyaar I thought was wonderful. His trademark "vadai thattufying" style is famous and will be forever with the league of "I know" from Raghuvaran..

I couldnt remember the old movies, but with kalla kadathal scenes where Nambi with his curly wig, kambiliboochi meesai and gorgeous eyebrows would grace the screens.. To add to that, the lightings under his chin to make him more villainous should not be forgotten.

Oh well, about Nasser..
Devar Maghan - the man who was opposite of Sivaji and his sarcastic dialogue delivery should be applauded.. "aiyaa.. yaa.. yOv" :thumbsup:
Kurudhi Punal - excellent characterization.. he didnt need special make up to showcase .. but a regular cool guy who faces the music in the first half and dictates in the second

I still think that TF has not come up with the best villain portraying his character.. I thought the best portrayal of a villain character was delivered in The Usual suspects .. idhu madhiri oru villain introduction with the suitable ambiance, silent voice over is due big time in TF

I would rate Nasser after MRR as the best villain. Nasser was brilliant in devarmagan, kuridhipunal etc. after that he started doing character roles. But still he performed as a villain brilliantly in poi solla porom.

Prakash Raj - Aasai, Appu, Ghilli were all good. It was PR all over,

Nasser - Devar Magan, Kuruthi PuNal - ivarkitta villain enguRathaiyum thAndi oru vagaiyAna smartness and gethu irukkum. I could not accept him as a complete villain in these two movies in which he had played the most acclaimed roles.

Rajinikanth - in MoonRu mudichu, AvargaL, 16 vayathinilE. Commendable performance.

Oldies - MR Radha (ivara pArthAlE oru tension vanthudum)

MRR is a great character artiste and when he attempts villainism, he is a class of his own.

But MNN was born to play bad guy at that time. Kids used to cry when he is beating up MGR. My heart even chokes when he is causing pain to NT when I see those films these days. And why, he can even make you laugh. Watch Letchumi Kalyanam and Ponoonjal. The scheming village idiots he played (a bit varied) would surely make you laugh, though he can be really annoying (as per the plot device). To just dis him, maaan.... :huh:

I'm completely with you about MNN. Being a Vaathiyar fan, how can I "dis" MNN? Without MNN, Vaathiyar wouldn't have become a super hero that he turned out to be. Though, in my book, there are many other villains equal/better than MNN in various other times - he surely has a special place in TF history. 8-)

of these 4.. he is not that great compared to other villains in VK film.. I wud pick..
