View Full Version : Cri(oo)cinfo - The agenda driven glamour girl

She is sexy. She is smart. She is desirable. She has all the figure(s). But she comes with an agenda. Inevitable, did you say?
Cricinfo is the best site in the world for Cricket related facts, figures, live scores and records. But they have been running with an agenda since the last few years - one of furthering the myth that "Only Englishmen(and their cousins) are capable of running cricket fairly and smoothly". Contrary to real life evidence.
And they have such an aversion to Indians, which manifests in multiple forms. Most recently, this manifested itself in the way Ricky Ponting was chosen the Cricketer of the decade, despite being only marginally better in statistics than cricketers acknolwdged as greater far and wide.(ok, I will name him - Tendulkar.)
This thread will capture all the crooked attempts of cricinfo to tarnish Indian Cricket by commissions and omissions and the double standards that pervade this organisation

Exhibhit #1 (http://www.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/446339.html)
Rahul Bhattacharya's pooh-poohing of Ponting's selection. But that is not as important as the following:
My third choice, Virender Sehwag, to my alarm, was not on the shortlist at all. Alarm turned to outrage when, despite my vote, which should have catapulted him alongside the 10th-placed Shivnarine Chanderpaul who also had one point, Sehwag's name was omitted from the top 10.
So, here's the facts - Rahul has voted for Sehwag which means he is in 10th place, but his name was omitted by croocinfo. Good that they allowed Rahul to state this in their own site but that is about all.

Another of cricinfo's A(u)ssie licking gems:
Idiot analyser makes stupid comparison (http://www.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/448716.html)
Brazil's footballers have won an unprecedented five World Cups and, overall, almost four times as many internationals as they have lost, but they have only played Italy and Germany, Europe's finest, 14 and 20 times respectively: a combined 4% of their total fixtures. Yes, they have tackled Argentina 89 times, but that's still barely 10%. Australia, who have succeeded where Brazil have come up short by landing a hat-trick of World Cups, have locked horns with England 422 times in Tests and ODIs (29%), West Indies 229 (16%), India 179 (12%) and South Africa 160 (11%).
Cricket-la irukkaradhE 8-10 nations. Obviously, one nation would have played another for a large percentage of time. Football-la Brazil has played Germany/Italy only 14 times-Am so Australia's Cricket aura is higher-Am.
How did he even think of this comparison?

The more he writes, more I admire this wise blogger. Much better than stuff you see in croocinfo (http://cricketingview.blogspot.com)
He completely debunks the cynical accusation against Dhoni by reporters recently for missing their press conference. I am with dhoni totally on this and am glad someone questioned these holy cow press people. Sad that popular cricketing discussions have no place for erudition such as this blogger brings

BTB Plum, any theories on what would be the motive? They wouldn't take up such an agenda against the primary revenue generator without a reason.
PS: Even you would have accept their hardwork in collecting and maintaining a rich (if not complete) database of cricket stats.

I've noticed articles related Indian cricket generating 100s of comments. More the negative tone, more the comments. It was good when it was under Wisden, I think.

I too have seen plenty of absurd comments from Pakistani and Bangladeshi fans. Indians get riled and fill up the comments section. End result is more hits for the site. ooru rendu patta koothaadikku kondaattam.
They posted an article on how their servers crashed due to overload during one of those Sachin specials (200 I think). Why stoop down to lower levels if Indin masses can generate so many hits without the controversies?
There was a certain standard when it was under Wisden. Now it has started going downhill. But I can't completely boycott Cricinfo because of their database .
Are there any other sites which provide live scores with good commentary apart from cricbuzz?

Cricinfo staff ! I am done. Some of these comments are very hurtful. I will no longer visit the website. I am an Indian and this website is just becoming a forum to disrespect my nation. I wish everyone working on this website, best of luck. One advice, please read the comments before publishing them. Thank you !

Comments aren't enabled in most of the news articles. Smart.
Different Strokes section has comments enabled. And I see comments ranging from conspiracy against Pak, fixing is universal but Pak is targetted and some other comments which drag the likes of Kapil, Commonwealth organizing, etc. Have to agree that some people are genuinely angry about this incident, as they have sacrificed so much for watching cricket but they have been cheated.

Anand Ramachandran in Cricinfo pinches our chatterjee concept and spoofs it (http://www.cricinfo.com/page2/content/story/480314.html)
such as Mr JS Sharma's keen idea of reverse-jinxing the match by steadfastly (and obnoxiously) claiming to everyone that Australia would win
 - ungaLLa yAru Anand Ramachandran. And why have you hidden my name under JS Sharma?
Anand Ramachandran, own up - you picked the idea from here
In his legal notice, Mr Jimmy has claimed that by the simple act of not watching even a single ball of the match, he decisively turned the tide in India's favour, and hence deserved to be Man of the Match.

Here's another instance of cricinfo editing its articles to suit their agenda(namely, promote hawkeye).
Much respected cricket blogger Kartikeya Date, a noted critic of DRS, and in particular, hawkeye, who has single-handedly demolished all myths about DRS being the panacea for revolutionising umpiring in Cricket, curing cancer, and solving the middle-east problem, in his blog (http://cricketingview.blogspot.com), contributed an article to cricinfo inbox with similar views
However, cricinfo chose to title it "Pros and Cons of UDRS", when it was all about the cons. Talk of agenda, and spin.
Kartikeya Date points out how his article criticising DRS was titled "Pros and Cons of DRS" by Cricinfo (http://cricketingview.blogspot.com/2011/08/ball-tracking-chronicle-part-ii.html#more)
