Karthik Sivakumar (born 25 May 1977), best known by his stage name Karthi is an award-winning Tamil film actor. He is the younger son of veteran actor Sivakumar and brother of Surya Sivakumar. He is best known for his role in his debut film Paruthiveeran in 2007, for which he received the Filmfare Best Tamil Male Debut Award and Filmfare Best Actor Award.

Actualllyyyyyyy neruku ner was the first movie i saw at the cinema :p i remember being a lil kid, and thought the movie had finished when it was the interval!
but no...look at suryas face back then, it had the features towards the potential of being hot...karthi has the features too....but i dont think he has it as much as surya does...danoeeeee ! i rele cnt imagin karthi in a ghajini hairstyle and charm.

"The feedback about the movie from the fans and those in the industry has been very positive. The film’s distributors are also very happy with the performance of the movie at the box-office," Karthi says sporting an air of confidence.

Karthi feels ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ was a brave effort by the director Selvaraghavan. "I am proud to be part of this magnum opus. It was a wonderful experience working with Selvaraghavan."

Karthi asserts that the movie was rather in the category of fantasy adventure. "I did a lot of homework for the film. I had learnt ‘silambam’ for my earlier flick ‘Paruthi Veeran’ and it was handy. I had seen the amount of hard work my brother surya puts in for each film and it certainly inspired me," he says.

Karthi’s next release will be ‘Paiyya,’ directed by Lingusamy. The actor plays the role of a city youth. "It is a youthful subject and it should hit the screens in a month’s time," he informs.

Karthi met the Chennai city Police Commissioner along with Aayirathil Oruvan’s producer Raveendran to discuss the piracy issue. Speaking to the media soon after the meeting, Karthi said that he thanked the Commissioner for taking steps to curb piracy. The actor appealed to all the movie buffs to see the film in theatres. He said that the producer had made the film on a huge budget and all those who were associated with AO toiled for nearly three years to bring it to screen.

Karthi added that police have played a pivotal role in ensuring that the film does not reach the pubic through pirated CDs and urged the people to cooperate.

Followed by the grand releases of Pongal, the entire town is gearing up for the next set of films slated to hit screens soon. Well, this weekend is sure to be a fun-filled moment for film buffs as Venkat Prabhu’s ‘Goa’ and RJ Shiva’s ‘Tamil Padam’ have been acclaimed as the best comedy entertainers.

The first week of February has Ajith Kumar’s ‘ASAL’ releasing with more prints. Now we hear that director Lingusamy has decided to release his film ‘Paiyya’ on February 19 along with Gowtham Menon’s ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’. Earlier, ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’ was supposed to hit screens on Valentine’s Day weekend and got postponed due to unavailability of theatres.

Now, as Sun Pictures is planning for a grand release of their next production ‘Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai’ by last week of February, Lingusamy seems to have made a wise decision of releasing his film on Feb 19.

Karthi cleverly avoided a foot-in-the-mouth situation yesterday at his press meet, held at the Residency Towers, Chennai. On a question as to who he would like to work with again among Ameer, Selvaraghavan and Lingusamy, he said he doesn’t have plans to work in 2-year projects in the near future. “For the same reason, I would like to work with Lingusamy again,” he said.

It’s to be noted that both his debut in Paruthiveeran, directed by Ameer and second project Aayirathil Oruvan, directed by Selvaraghavan took two years to complete. A wise reply that, we say.

Three lucky listeners of Radio Mirchi were selected to watch a special screening of Paiyaa. The winners emerged out of a contest announced by the FM station as a part of promotional activities of the movie. They rode in a Limo with Karthi and Tamannah to the screening of the movie.

Karthi has said that he is looking for an opportunity to share the screen space with his brother Suriya. However, Karthi is not game to play the reel-life brother. He has said that Suriya will be the hero in the film and he would be the baddie. Karthi also revealed that if a suitable storyline comes up from either Bala or Lingusamy, he and Suriya would be seen together onscreen.

It is Karthi's third film, though a city bred this time, he's adamant about not sporting a clean-shaven look. So you get to see a very refined yet slightly rugged-looking Karthi in ‘Paiyya.' ‘‘என்னுடைய இயல்பான குசும்புத்தனம், சிரிப்பு, பேச்சும் பருத்திவீரன்ல இருக்கு. அதுகூட இருக்கக்கூடாதுன்னு முன்னெச்சரிக்கையாதான் பையாவில் நடிச்சேன். அப்படியும் கண் விரிச்சு பேசும்போது சில இடங்களில் பருத்திவீரன் மாதிரி இருந்ததுன்னு சொன்னாங்க. சரி... அந்த சாயல் இனி இருக்காது.’’

அறிமுக இயக்குனர்களின் படங்களில் நடிப்பதில்லையே... ஏன்?

‘‘நான் 30 படங்கள் நடிச்சிருந்தா பரவாயில்லை. நானே 3 படங்கள்தான் நடிச்சிருக்கேன். அறிமுக இயக்குநரின் கதையில் நடிக்க எனக்கு அனுபவம் பத்தாது. வழக்கமான கமர்ஷியல் படமாக இல்லாமல் கொஞ்சம் ஸ்பெஷலாக இருந்தால் மட்டுமே தற்போதைக்கு அறிமுக இயக்குநர்களின் கதைகளில் நடிப்பேன்.’’

Paiyya was the first movie I saw of Karthik and i must say i am simply amazed with his acting he is a pure natural.... I feel he has even performed better in this, paruthi veeran, and aayarathil oruvan than suriya's recent films! Surya And Karthi To Share Screen

There is a habit of all the heroes jointly acting in Hindi films. They are not egoistic. Even the recently released Three Idiots had three heroes in it. In Telugu and Malayalam films, leading actors jointly act in a film too. But this habit is just not there in Tamil films. This is due to the egoism that they want to stand independently.

“This is also one of the reasons for Tamil films to flop” said South Indian Actors’ Association president Sarath Kumar as he requested all the heroes to come forward and act together. Surya and Karthi had earlier mentioned that they were willing to act with other heroes provided the story is good. Now both of them will be sharing the screen in the new film. The title, director and producer’s name has not been announced yet.

It’s worth mentioning that Surya holds special mention for having shared screen space with many actors including Vijay, Madhavan, Vijayakanth and many others within a short span of time.

Jyothika in Karthi's Siruthai?
Karthi's upcoming film Siruthai is fast rolling on floors and is reported to have completed a couple of schedules. As known earlier, the film is a remake of yesteryear Telugu blockbuster Vikramakudu featuring Ravi Teja in dual roles with Anushka as the female lead character.

The original version has Ravi Teja enacting dual roles as police officer and other one as a petty thief while Jyothika played wife's role of cop. However, not an even single scene brings Ravi Teja and Jyothika together as she is portrayed as his dead wife. She is spotted in the medium-sized photo frame adored with garlands.

Those who have already watched Vikramakudu are curious to know about the actress replacing Jyothika's photo. Well, one cannot expect the same actress to reappear as Jo happens to be his elder brother Suriya's wife. In Tamil film industry, it remains as a sentimental factor as audiences wouldn't accept such portrayals in reels.

It is more or less the same as Bollywood's expectations on Mr. India-2 as Anil Kapoor and his bhabhi Sri Devi played lead characters in its prequel.

The unpredicted mega success of Karthi’s films dubbed in Telugu has got him a high pedestal in Tollywood. His Aayirathil Oruvan dubbed as ‘Yuganiki Okkadu' and Paiyaa dubbed as ‘Awara’ has set records for dubbed films in Telugu.

Now with Karthi’s stakes on a high Telugu film fraternity is looking for casting him in a straight Telugu film. The first one who would probably do that is star director Bommarillu Bhaskar. Buzz is that Bhaskar will direct Karthi in his first direct Telugu film that may be produced by BVSN Prasad.

Buzz also says in a confirmed tone that Genelia has been roped in to play the female lead opposite Karthi and the film will begin this film after Bhaskar completes Ram Charan Teja's film ‘Orange’. The film is also said to be bi-lingual of course.

Though Karthi is yet to confirm the developments himself he many times recently has said he learning Telugu and perfecting his diction. So do you read anything in between ?

And, Suriya and Karthi figure among the top five saleable stars in the industry, a fantastic feat by any yardstick.
Karthi, in fact, has been the star of 2010 as, within a space of eight months, he has had a hat-trick of hits — Aayirathil Oruvan, Paiyaa and now, Naan Mahaan Alla (NMA).

Suseenthiran, the director of Karthi's NMA, says, "NMA took a good opening thanks to Karthi's star power and went on to become a hit due to the content of the film. When I started the film, he readily agreed with me that we will not have a hero introduction song or anything to show heroism until the climax." "Tell me which hero will agree to do such a film?," he asks.

Actor-director Parthepan, who worked with Karthi in Aayirathil Oruvan, points out, "Karthi is a chip of the old block and has the pedigree, being the son of Sivakumar sir and the brother of Suriya. He has been able to create a new fan base due to his screen presence, sincerity and hard work. In just four films, he has reached dizzy heights, and is definitely going to be a superstar of the future."

A leading theatre owner in Chennai too shares his view. "I know star ratings, based purely on box-office collections, is a very sensitive subject in Tamil Nadu. However, now, nobody can deny that Karthi has an opening. All his three films released this year took fantastic opening which is the true sign of a superstar. It means audiences are willing to pay money to come to the theatre to see the star. Among the new breed of stars, I'm betting big on him," he gushes.

Says Paiyaa's director and producer, Lingusamy, "Paiyaa turned out to be a blockbuster because there was a repeat audience for the film. Karthi was shown without his beard for the first time and his on screen chemistry with Tamannaah sizzled on screen. On the whole, the packaging coupled with Karthi's charisma made it work wonders."

Now, the Karthi-Tamannaah pair is coming together again for Siruthai. Says Tamannaah, "I believe Paiyaa worked big time due to Karthi's lovable screen presence along with Lingusamy's racy script. I truly like Karthi. He's brilliant — a fine actor with a terrific charisma that endears him to the masses. If you ask me what makes the brothers tick, it is the fact that they are passionate about movies."

Meanwhile, the Kollywood grapevine is abuzz that Karthi is being offered a whopping Rs 6 crore to do his next film, a 300 per cent increase in salary!

Karthi, in fact, has been the star of 2010 as, within a space of eight months, he has had a hat-trick of hits — Aayirathil Oruvan, Paiyaa and now, Naan Mahaan Alla (NMA).

Suseenthiran, the director of Karthi's NMA, says, "NMA took a good opening thanks to Karthi's star power and went on to become a hit due to the content of the film. When I started the film, he readily agreed with me that we will not have a hero introduction song or anything to show heroism until the climax." "Tell me which hero will agree to do such a film?," he asks.

Actor-director Parthepan, who worked with Karthi in Aayirathil Oruvan, points out, "Karthi is a chip of the old block and has the pedigree, being the son of Sivakumar sir and the brother of Suriya. He has been able to create a new fan base due to his screen presence, sincerity and hard work. In just four films, he has reached dizzy heights, and is definitely going to be a superstar of the future."

A leading theatre owner in Chennai too shares his view. "I know star ratings, based purely on box-office collections, is a very sensitive subject in Tamil Nadu. However, now, nobody can deny that Karthi has an opening. All his three films released this year took fantastic opening which is the true sign of a superstar. It means audiences are willing to pay money to come to the theatre to see the star. Among the new breed of stars, I'm betting big on him," he gushes.

Says Paiyaa's director and producer, Lingusamy, "Paiyaa turned out to be a blockbuster because there was a repeat audience for the film. Karthi was shown without his beard for the first time and his on screen chemistry with Tamannaah sizzled on screen. On the whole, the packaging coupled with Karthi's charisma made it work wonders."

Now, the Karthi-Tamannaah pair is coming together again for Siruthai. Says Tamannaah, "I believe Paiyaa worked big time due to Karthi's lovable screen presence along with Lingusamy's racy script. I truly like Karthi. He's brilliant — a fine actor with a terrific charisma that endears him to the masses. If you ask me what makes the brothers tick, it is the fact that they are passionate about movies."

Meanwhile, the Kollywood grapevine is abuzz that Karthi is being offered a whopping Rs 6 crore to do his next film, a 300 per cent increase in salary!

Suseendran, who is busy with his next project ‘Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai’, goes a trip down the memory lane on how he selected the five actors to play the villains in his last release ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’.

“I found three of them on Chennai roads. The fourth villain was the one who had acted in Nandha earlier, while the fifth, who played the character of mama, was Ramachandran, a former assistant to Vijay Milton,” says Suseendran.

The filmmaker adds: “I spotted the acting talent in Ramachandran when he assisted me in ‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu’. And the one who played the role Kutti Natesan in the film was cinematographer Aruldas.”

Karthi, who is riding high on a success wave, will have his next release, ‘Siruthai’, in December. The film, directed by Tollywood filmmaker Shiva, is a remake of Telugu blockbuster ‘Vikramarkudu’, say sources in the know.

“Shiva has earlier directed films like ‘Souryam’ and ‘Sankham’. His Kollywood debut will be ‘Siruthai’, which has Tamannah opposite Karthi. Comedy portion will be taken care of by Santhanam”, they say.

After a gap, music composer Vidyasagar is back on ‘track’ with this film, which is being cinematographed by Velraj and edited by Anthony. K E Gnanavelraja of Studio Green is producing ‘Siruthai’ on a big budget.

There's some good news in the Sivakumar household. The latest news we hear is that actor Karthi (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Karthi) will soon become a dad as his wife Ranjini is in the family way. It looks like the actor, who has completed work on his Alex Pandian and is slated to start his next soon, is spending a lot of time with his wife dearest.
On the work front, the Paruthiveeran star will start shooting for his Biriyani with Venkat Prabhu (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Venkat-Prabhu) from the beginning of next month. While the leading lady for this film is yet to be finalized, it is heard that Biriyani too will be a typical Venkat Prabhu film with a lot of fun elements.

News is out that Karthi will team up with director Hari next. Director Hari says, "This will be an emotionally-packed action flick that will be shot in Coimbatore. Karthi will be playing a typical Coimbatore guy in this film but the heroine of the film is not yet finalized. The rest will be decided after I complete Singam 2."
A source close to the actor says, "Karthi is thrilled to be part of the project as the story is based on his native city."

Karthi Sivakumar, who will turn 35 Saturday, will spend his birthday on the sets of his upcoming Tamil comedy "All In All Azhagu Raja" (AIAAR).

"We are currently shooting the second schedule of the film in Kumbakonam. Karthi will celebrate his birthday on the sets with the entire crew... and we have planned for a small party for him in the evening," a source from the film's unit told IANS.

Back home, in Chennai, members of Karthi's fans' club plan to celebrate by indulging in some charity.

"We are planning for charitable events such as blood donation camp and distributing books to underprivileged school children," said a member of the club.

Paired opposite Kajal Agarwal, Karthi has pinned all hopes on the film. He hopes it will resurrect his dwindling career.

With two back-to-back dubs such as "Saguni" and "Alex Pandian", Karthi, brother of actor Suriya Sivakumar, hopes AIAAR will catapult him back to stardom.

Rajesh M is directing the film, which also features Santhanam, Prabhu and Saranya Ponvannan.

Karthi is also simultaneously shooting for Tamil romantic-comedy "Biriyani".
