Singing Nightingale Dr. P. Susheela

Mrs. P. Susheela forms a trust in her name to confer awards to eminent personalities in music industry and to help needy students/artists in music field.

In a press meet on Nov 2, 2008, Mrs. P. Susheela said that she has started this Trust because she wanted to give back something to the music world for having brought her to the position she is in now. Every year, the Trust will give awards to talented Indian male and female playback singers. Members of the Trust are MS Viswanathan, Vairamuthu, Balasaraswati Devi and Jamuna Rao.

The objectives of this trust are:

To advance Indian Culture and Literature, service of this country for the benefits of our nation.
To function as a non-commercial trust and as a secular organization.
To help financially and give pensions to old and needy artists of music field (Vocal or Instrumental)
To establish, maintain and run music colleges and academies of fine arts.
To confer P. Susheela award to one eminent personality in the field of music every year.
To sponsor music programs/music CDs and cassettes, etc. which promote and advance Indian culture (film, light, folk and classical)
To help the poor and needy students of merit in music by means of financial support for the academic studies in music (Vocal or Instrumental) and also presenting them the required music instruments.
To help the poor and needy artists of music who require medical help.
To bring biographies and documentaries of legendary artists of music which will be a factor of inspiration to the next and future generations.
To maintain a library of music (both books and CDs of all types of music and musicians)

A glittering function will be held on November 14, 2009 at Chennai wherein Sri. M.S. Viswanathan, Sri. Ilayaraja, Sri Vairamuthu, Sri P.B. Srinivas, Smt. Janaki , Jamunarani, Smt. Vani Jayram, Smt S.P. Shailaja and others are to participate. Smt. Suhasini is to compere the event.

This event is also to collect funds for Andhra flood relief and to be held at Chennai.

இசையரசிக்கு இனிய பிறந்த நாள் வாழ்த்துக்கள்

Dear Friends,
After a long time, such a long time that Visali Sriram was getting impatient :) Just returned from Vizhag this evening, had been there for a concert. Now, the programme would be, record a few songs for the thiruarutpa album, participate in a concert on Apr 29 and on May 2nd, leave for Dallas, US. I am going to be felicitated there, as a part of the International women's day celebration. I will be in the US for 10 days after which I will return to Chennai. I could not attend the "Chennayil Telugu Sangamam" function as I was not in a position to do so. As an aside, one of my fans sent me a Malayalam "manasinte moham" composed by Master Johnson. Was hearing it after a long time, was thoroughly pleased, listening to it, a very well composed song indeed !!!! Thanks everybody. Will be back !!!

The event was held on November 14, 2010, at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai.
T.M. Soundararajan and P.B. Srinivas were awarded the ‘Lifetime achievement award’ and
K.J. Yesudas was awarded the ‘P. Susheela Award for Excellence in Music’. The event featured
singers ranging over 6 decades, and brought together play back singers from different eras

To my amazement, I found a song by, of all people, Bappi Lahiri. It’s a duet with Kishore Kumar, from a 1986 potboiler named Singhasan."
