But there is a habit of spreading amongst the community and society to project negative notions on those who could not make it for the reasons best known to them or unavoidable.
This should be stopped. Because a person is not able to make it to visit in person, it should not be deemed that he is not honest.

very true...I completely accept it..but the media sensationalize these small things and it is up to the imagination of the audience/people here who go through these. wish the people are more intelligent and don't read much into these...

there was a live coverage of the funeral by KTV and the crowd gathered and thronged to see the cine stars rather than paying tribute the director KB (this is what I felt after seeing)....you should have seen the crowd surrounding the car in which rajini was leaving or he came to pay his last respects to KB....horrible in my opinion....not sure what made Ajith to keep away but it is good he didn't make a public appearance which would have caused great nuisance in my opinion....the chennai police wasn't able to control the crowd and guess poor security arrangements...

உடல்நலம் குன்றி தனியார் மருத்துவமனையில் சிகிச்சை பெற்று வந்த நாராயணா சிகிச்சை பலனின்றி வெள்ளிக்கிழமை இறந்தார்.
தனது சொந்த கிராமத்துக்குச் சென்றிருந்தபோது நாராயணாவின் உடல்நிலை பாதிப்படைந்தது. ஹைதராபாத்தில் உள்ள மருத்துவமனையில் சிகிச்சைக்காக சேர்க்கப்பட்டிருந்தார்.
எம்.எஸ்.நாராயணா என அறியப்பட்ட இவர், சுமார் 700 படங்களுக்கு மேல் நடித்துள்ளார். இவர் 1951-ஆம் ஆண்டு மேற்கு கோதாவரி மாவட்டத்தில் பிறந்த நாராயணா ஆசிரியராக இருந்தவர்.

Ace movie director/cinematographer of yesteryears A. Vincent (Aloysius Vincent) passed away in Chennai on February 2015 at the age of 89. He was an innovative cameraman in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi before venturing into movie directing in 1964. In his career spanning four and half decades, Vincent has handled cinematography for over 80 movies and directed over 30 films.

Some of his cinematographic classics include "Kadhalikka Neramillai", "Thulabharam", “Adimai Penn”, “Ilamai Kolam”, “Nenjam Marappathillai”, “Gauravam”, “Nazrana”, "Prem Nagar", "Alludugaru", "Allari Priyudu", "Bobbili Simham", "Annamayya", and "Adaviramudu".

Movies that he directed include the Malayalam classics "Bhargavi Nilayam", “Murappennu”, “Thulabharam”; and Tamil movies “Naam Pirandha Mann”, “Thirumangalyam”, “Iru Veedugal”, “Thulabaram”, and “Engalukkum Kaalam Varum”.

His sons Jayanan Vincent and Ajayan Vincent are both Cinematographers in South Indian cinema.

I could not read or write Tamil when I first heard about Jayakanthan, but had the good fortune later of reading English translations of a few of his books. He was way ahead of his time in his writing style, his themes, and social concept. I consider his movies classics too. The following quote from him highlights how he felt about society as a whole: "They hold a notion that I have all along been writing about people of the lower strata. But haven't I really been writing about high level people among the so-called lower strata. Who belongs to the higher strata and who to the lower strata? That cannot be determined by their position or by their place of living. It is by how they are – how they live – that a determination should be made."

I have met him in person more than 10 years ago, and we had a long discussion on several subjects.
He left me some books to read.

கடந்த 2005 ஆம் ஆண்டுக்கு பின்னர் திரையுலகை விட்டு விலகி அமெரிக்காவில் குடியேறினார். 2007ஆம் ஆண்டில் கணினி பொறியியலாளர் உஜ்வால் குமார் என்பவரை திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டார். திருமணத்துக்கு பின்னரும் அவருக்கு சினிமா வாய்ப்புகள் வந்தன. ஆனால் அவர் உடல் எடை கூடி பருமனாகிவிட்டதால் சினிமாவில் மீண்டும் நடிப்பது குறித்து ஆலோசித்து வந்தார். மேலும் அவரின் உடல் எடையைக் குறைத்தால் நடிக்க வாய்ப்பு தருவதாகவும் தெலுங்கு பட உலகில் கூறினர்.

இதன் காரணமாக ஜூன் 6 ஆம் தேதி காலை அவர் திடீர் மரணமடைந்தார். இச்சம்பவம் தமிழ் மற்றும் தெலுங்கு திரைத் துறையில் பெரிய அதிர்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தியது. இந்நிலையில் எடைகுறைப்பு அறுவைச் சிகிச்சை தவறாக முடிந்ததால் நடிகை ஆர்த்தி அகர்வாலுக்கு மூச்சுத்திணறல் ஏற்பட்டது என்று தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளது. தெலுங்கு நடிகை ஆர்த்தி அகர்வாலின் மேலாளர், இது தொடர்பாக ஆங்கில செய்தி நிறுவனம் ஒன்றிற்கு அளித்துள்ள பேட்டியில், “ஆர்த்தி அகர்வால் உடல் பருமன் மற்றும் நுரையீரல் நோயினால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு இருந்தார்.

அதற்கு சிகிச்சைப் பெற்றுக் கொண்டு இருந்தபோது சில சிக்கல்கள் ஏற்பட்டதன் காரணமாக அவருக்கு மாரடைப்பு ஏற்பட்டு உயிரிழந்தார்” என்று கூறியுள்ளார். உடல் எடையைக் குறைப்பது தொடர்பான அறுவைச் சிகிச்சை ஆர்த்தியின் உயிரைப் பறித்துள்ள சம்பவம் திரைத் துறையினர் மத்தியில் அதிர்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது.

MUSICAL LEGEND M S VISWANATHAN PASSES AWAY

Veteran music composer 'Mellisai Mannar' M S Viswanathan passed away this morning (14th July) at a private hospital in Chennai at around 4.15 AM. He was 87 and is survived by four sons and three daughters. MSV as he was fondly called, was not keeping well for a while and was undergoing treatment for age related issues. He had in fact showed signs of recovery a few days back but his condition deteriorated.



MSV has composed music for more than thousand films across the South Indian languages. He started his film musical career in the 1952 film Panam starring Sivaji Ganesan. His collaboration with fellow composer Ramamurthy has resulted in numerous memorable tracks.



Some of his best works include Enga Veettu Pillai, Paasa Malar and Sumaithangi. MSV and legendary filmmaker K. Balachander’s combination has produced several evergreen classics. Viswanathan is also a recipient of the Kalaimamani and several other awards. MSV’s demise has left a huge irreplaceable void in the music industry.

சில மாதங்களுக்கு முன்னர் விஜய் டிவியின் சூப்பர் சிங்கர் ஜூனியர் நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு கைத்தாங்கலாக அழைத்து வரப் பட்டபோதே நம் இதயம் நெகிழ்ந்தது. மெல்ல மெல்ல ஒவ்வொரு அடியாக எடுத்து வைத்து வந்தார்.

சில நாட்களுக்கு முன் தீவிர சிகிச்சைப் பிரிவில் அனுமதிக்கப் பட்டுள்ளார் என்பதை அறிந்து மனம் பதைபதைத்தது.

இன்று அதிகாலை இசை ரசிகர்கள் மீது பேரிடி விழுந்து விட்டது.

அவர் உடலால் நம்மை விட்டு பிரிந்தாலும் தன அழியாத பாடல்களால் நம்மிடையே என்றென்றும் வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருப்பார்.

அவர் புகழைப் போற்றுவதே அவருக்கான சிறந்த அஞ்சலி.

My heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and innumerable fans.

My first recollection of watching a song tuned by Mellisai Mannar, in the cinema hall, was when I had watched "Nenjam Marappathillai". The memorable song bearing the film's name (for which he had composed the music along with T.K.Ramamoorthy), tugged at my heart strings and had made a profound impact on me. So had scores of his other songs, which he had composed individually, and also those with Ramamoorthy.

Grew up with Ilaiyaraaja's music (needless to say!)

There were so many tracks/songs from the late 70s through 80s that I thought were by IR but only later learnt they were by MSV..

'Ninaithale Inikkum' released same time (correct me if am wrong) as 'Priya' - was an absolute challenge to IR's genre defying creativity! track to track, NI matched and perhaps arguably bettered Priya!

Some tracks which I mistakenly attributed to IR, were just outstanding :

"Raagangal padhinaaru" for Rajini in Thillu Mullu (that delightful Rajini - in the super able hands of late KB - is gone baby gone, but I wont digress),

"Maan kanda sorgangal" - from 47 natkal - here is a track for a situation abt a demure Indian housewife leading a miserable life with a narcissistic husband cheating on her - the tune structure is so unique, unlike any I have heard - if it was set to tune to lyrics already written (Kannadasan ?), then a total ripper (a la Shane Warne knocking off Chanderpaul's leg stump pitching almost outside the pitch's edge)..

The best of them - IMHO - were "Kanna kaanum kangal mella" from 'agni satchi' - one of the alltime greats of SPB - the bass line made it sound distractingly IRish! The parts "nilaa kaala megam ellaam, ulaa pogum neram kanney" in the pallvi, or, "nodiyil naal thorum niram maarum devi, vidai thaan kidaikkamal thadumarum kelvi" in the charanam - classic crossover between a lullaby and a romantic pathos melody....

and MSV's version of "Theertha karaiyiniley" (even though I did not like the way the tune meanders at 'vedhanai seigudhadi') is perhaps the best tribute to Bharathiar's words..beautifully rendered by SPB..

If IR (arguably) was a major factor contributing to the cult status of both Rajini and Kamal, MSV undeniably was an absolute major factor to creating the MGR 'cult' in TN cinema & the latter's ascent in politics....

The reach of movie tracks in creating a sense of euphoria amongst the masses often deluding them to blindly believe in their political masters was fully demonstrated by the way MGR in particular exploited the talents of MSV-TKR and Kannadasan to further his political ambitions..

MGR/DMK/ADMK/AIADMK/JJ et al owe MSV-TKR combo for making 'leaders' out of stars..and successful political parties out of a bunch of hooligans..

some of the tunes/melodies might have been collaborative efforts - 'vaa vennilaa' from MTK is definitely tuned by MSV while the entire orchestration was undoubtedly IR...

His last brief silver screen appearance after a long sabbatical was in the Sai Dharam Tej and Regina Cassandra starrer Telugu feature, Subramanyam for sale in 2015.

இந்த நிலையில், அவருக்கு நேற்று மீண்டும் உடல் நலக்குறைவு ஏற்பட்டவே, சென்னையில் உள்ள ஒரு பிரபல மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டு, அங்கு தீவிர சிகிச்சை அளிக்கப்பட்டது. ஆனால், சிகிச்சை பலன் இன்றி இன்று சற்று நேரம் முன்பு காலமானார்.

Actress Jayalalitha will be among the few rare actress in Indian Film Industry who have done several challenging roles in woman centric films. She has featured in films which has titles associated with her character, making her role quite prominent in the proceedings inside the filmwork. Jayalalitha has easily walked through different genres in motion pictures, another rare feature for any Indian Actress. A carrier spanning for about twenty years as an actress, Jayalalitha has appeared in more than 135 films across five different Indian languages.

What I like about this fabulous actress Jayalalitha is her facial features, especially her apple cheeks, the pair of bright eyes between sweeping eyelashes and here ever smiling thick lips. She possesses a charm over the audience and I like her when she reacts to serious situations in the films, notably when she exposes her anger. I have also noted that she has appeared in numerous different hairdos, all of which suits her perfectly, and is quite elegantly dressed with fashionable accessories dazzling over her. Her sense of carrying herself inside the frame is professional and she holds the deadly look of cuteness sparkling within intelligence - I always admire her cheerfulness on screen. She does carry a trade mark walk, a trait completely different from other artists. Last but far from the least, her immense energy that she pushes through the screen - her Epic genre films demands a lot of physical motion and she does them all with ease and grace.

The name Jayalalitha-the actress, will ring around as long as cameras keep rolling.

I never was a supporter of several of her political positions in later years, but I admired her for her social consciousness and the way she took charge and control in a male dominant culture. I express my appreciation of what she has been as a person and many of the things that she has done for the people of Tamilnadu. Rest in peace, Jayalalitha...

During the campaign in the film Manidhan, Cho says "Put your votes into the Well", as the contesting party's symbol is indeed a well.

In the film Puthiya Theerpu, as a continuation to his line on advicing people, Cho says pointing at Janakaraj, "If I say something, this fellow repeats Sommari, Chomari, Cho Mari".

Cho Ramaswamy features in my favourite film Adhisiya Piravi, in which the one liners and counters are so spontenous (ofcoarse they have its own share of bitter truth concealed within, concerning the poticial suituation of the said period). It is particularly his character Vichitra Gupta which converts the remake into a stand alone feature, where the adaptation was well done keeping in mind the adressed audience group.

During my childhood (and even presently), I read a lot of comics (a huge fan of Indrajal / Raj comics) and then, I never fail to go through Thuglak for its awesome caricatures. I recollect the evening I used to sit with my grandmother and laugh at the cartoons illustrated in the weekly Tamil magazine, eventhough I never minded its political contents. I am not much experienced to talk about Thuglak, but for me, Thuglak will remain one of the best cartoons of real life personages, the magzine's founder/editor Cho Ramaswamy since Pongal 1970. I often used to wonder how Cho gets a particular feauture of a person and exploits them in his cartoon, be it a nose or lips or even ears. It looks funny, at the same time sheds away the seriousness in the sense, while retaining a huge impact.

As a artist, Cho delivers his dialogues with firmity and uses the given time aptly on screen. He is a wonder while using Chennai Slang (Madras Bashai) and a kind of Robin Hood on screen to potray the current affairs and talk about the condition of the (political & social) system of the taken period. He boldly adresses them, creating an illusions of truth inside humour. His lampoonery potrayals of any hard news with witticism will always remain unique. He ridicules the concerned to expose truth, and as far as I am aware of, none have taken them dissimilarly but consulted with him seeking for appropriate measures. And he was there for them too with his expertise as a free thinker.

And as a writer/reader he is a huge inspiration (for myself). He is a great speaker too, where he induces hillarious lines to introduce to a pathetic problem roaming around. In Valli 1000, he tackles on stage the matters of old age jovially, which I consider as absolute and a major eye opener for any generation, esp., for those who are prepared to listen.

Spontaneity, brevity, boldness, presence of mind and inteligence will forever have a synonym called Cho Ramaswamy.
