View Full Version : Sachin Tendulkar - The Living Legend (Part III)

When Sachin Tendulkar travelled to Pakistan to face one of the finest bowling attacks ever assembled in cricket, Michael Schumacher was yet to race a F1 car, Lance Armstrong had never been to the Tour de France, Diego Maradona was still the captain of a world champion Argentina team, Pete Sampras had never won a Grand Slam. When Tendulkar embarked on a glorious career taming Imran and company, Roger Federer was a name unheard of; Lionel Messi was in his nappies, Usain Bolt was an unknown kid in the Jamaican backwaters. The Berlin Wall was still intact, USSR was one big, big country, Dr Manmohan Singh was yet to "open" the Nehruvian economy. It seems while Father Time was having his toll on every individual on the face of this planet, he excused one man. Time stands frozen in front of our Sachin. We have had champions, we have had legends, but we have never had a Sachin Tendulkar and we never will

It was the India of the 90s all over again: Tendulkar almost chased 351 on his own, but with the target in sight he got out and the rest choked, falling short by three runs with two balls to go. Wickets kept falling around him but Tendulkar gave the bowlers only one half-chance all through his innings. All night they couldn't get an uncouth shot out of him. He came out of a relatively lean patch, kept the pace up without taking undue risks, and played mostly regular cricket shots; and though support wasn't always forthcoming from the other end, Tendulkar took the fight to the opposition, counterattacking each time a wicket fell.

Sachin special: A hundred without a 'drive'
Sat, Feb 13 01:55 PM
India, Feb. 12 -- It is time to think of the Eden Test and not brood too much over the negatives thrown up by India's embarrassing defeat at Nagpur.
The stinging criticism of almost everyone connected with the team is understandable and I don't want to add anything more to what has been already said and written. Instead, I come here not to bury the team but to dig out two exceptional batting performances out of the debris left behind by the South African ambush of the Indians.
There is no doubt in anyone's mind that Dayle Steyn's swing bowling was simply exceptional, which made most of the batsmen look like novices, unable as they were to read his movement. Morkel was not far behind and Paul Harris' use of the rough, forcing batsmen to succumb to the temptation of sweep, was a tactical masterstroke, which stung India badly.
Seldom has a negative line produced so many positive gains for a team, as Harris' left-arm spin did on the fourth day. His most celebrated wicket was that of Sachin Tendulkar, who had by then constructed an innings which could have been remembered as one of his most meaningful knocks ever, crafted with a lot of tactical care and focus to counter the menacing attack.
Today, this knock will be known as one of the numbers - 46th - in his collection of 100s. And this would, I guess, hurt him the most.
Why do I say this? Consider the backdrop to his second innings arrival at the crease. He had looked in good nick in the first innings, till Steyn foxed him with a disguised outswinger, lulling him into repeating a drive, which Tendulkar had played successfully in the previous over.
The consequences this time around were fatal for the batsman. What was Tendulkar's response in the second innings? He just refused to take the bait and cut out the drive completely from his shot selection.
He had done a similar thing in the 2004 Sydney Test, refusing to play one of his most productive strokes, which on that tour had led to his demise a few times. The amazing part is that despite imposing this severe restriction on himself, which curtailed his run-making ability, he went on to score a double hundred then.
He resolved to do the same here, executed it to perfection, showing that he has neither lost his mental powers nor the fierce will to succeed, despite having added five more years to his life. How ironic that after having triumphed in executing so well the most difficult part of his plan, he became a helpless victim to a sweep-stroke, which at most other times would not have resulted in a dismissal.
This now brings me to Virender Sehwag's first innings knock. Unlike his mentor, Sehwag did not curb any of his attacking shots but chose to play them a bit more carefully.
And despite the ball moving and darting around so regularly that most other batsmen were searching for it, Sehwag played one of his more assured hundreds. If you take this innings in the context of the match and the quality of the bowling, this must surely rank as one of the most outstanding knocks of his.

The winners
Sehwag, Taylor, Tendulkar, Afridi take top honours
Virender Sehwag wins the Test batting prize for a second year running
Cricinfo staff
February 19, 2010
Virender Sehwag has won the Test batting prize for the second year running in the ESPNcricinfo Awards. Sehwag's audacious 293 against Sri Lanka in Mumbai was chosen over Andrew Strauss's 161 at Lord's in the Ashes and Chris Gayle's unbeaten 165 in Adelaide, by a jury of former cricketers, commentators and Cricinfo's senior editors.
The six awards, for performances in the three international cricket formats in 2009, were shared between players from three countries: India, Pakistan and West Indies. Gayle won the Twenty20 batting award for his 50-ball 88 against Australia at The Oval in the World Twenty20. His West Indies team-mate Jerome Taylor's rout of England in Jamaica was voted the Test bowling performance of the year.
The ODI batting award went to Sachin Tendulkar for his fighting 175 in a match India lost by three runs to Australia.
Shahid Afridi, who was nominated for his Twenty20 bowling as well, won for his career-best 6 for 38 in in Dubai, also against Australia.
The award for Twenty20 bowling went to Umar Gul, who was nominated twice in the category, for his five-wicket haul against New Zealand at The Oval, also in the World Twenty20 - a performance of reverse-swing bowling in which, according to former Australia captain and jury member Ian Chappell, "for three overs he looked like he was going to take a wicket every ball and damn near did".
Of the winners, Gul, Gayle and Afridi were among eight players to receive two nominations each. Fifty-seven performances from 2009 were shortlisted in the six categories early in January and voted on by the jury.
Former England opener Geoff Boycott, one of the members of the jury, which also included Tony Greig, David Lloyd, Ramiz Raja, Daryll Cullinan and Sanjay Manjrekar, said Sehwag's win was hardly surprising. "It is extraordinary to watch him play. I have seen some people score quickly and get big scores," Boycott said. "Part of the time it is brute force, but not so with him. It is just simplicity itself. I watch him bat and it seems as though he sees the shot even before the bowler has bowled. It is quite extraordinary. He doesn't play with great power; it is grace, timing and effortless ease, and his range of shots is quite exciting."
In addition to the performance awards, the ESPNcricinfo Awards also comprise the Statsguru Awards, which are based on detailed statistical analyses of the year's performances. Indian players won the top batting awards here as well. Gautam Gambhir was adjudged the Batsman of the Year, based on a score arrived at by adding Test batting average to ODI batting index (batting average multiplied by strike rate). He was also the Test Batsman of the Year. Sehwag was voted the ODI Batsman of the Year. The bowling awards went to Stuart Broad (Bowler of the Year), Mitchell Johnson (Test Bowler) and James Anderson (ODI Bowler). Other Statsguru Awards winners included Shane Watson (Most Consistent Test Batsman), Tillakaratne Dilshan (Most Runs in Test Wins), and Brendon McCullum and Jesse Ryder (ODI Opening Batting Pair of the Year).
Cricinfo readers were invited to vote on the nominees and their picks mirrored the jury's in all but one category: Twenty20 batting, where they picked Tillakaratne Dilshan's unbeaten 96 in the World Twenty20 over Gayle's 88.

There have been talks ever since Sachin's elbow injuries that he has been past his best and coming to the end of his International career. He had a fairly disappointing 2007 World Cup and had started to struggle getting through the 90's. However, since that World Cup Sachin's stats have been excellent. In Tests his record reads:
31 matches, 54 innings, 2779 runs at an average of 59.12 with 12 centuries and 11 50's.
In ODi's:
56 matches, 55 innings, 2547 runs at an average of 48.98 with 4 centuries and 16 50's.
They're pretty fantastic stats right there, and prove to me that he's definitely returned to his very best form. Tendulkar's run scoring in this period is only surpassed by Mahela Jayawardene in Test cricket, but Sachin has scored more centuries. Then in ODi's he's 4th on the list of leading run scorers, trailing 3 other Indian batsmen, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir.
Sachin has also started to once again pull ahead of Ricky Ponting in terms of Test hundreds scored. At the end of 2006 Ponting was really catching Tendulkar fast, and with Sachin not looking in the best of form it was thought that Ponting would end his career with more Test hundreds. In recent times Tendulkar has managed to re-establish that lead, and now has an 8 century advantage over the Australian skipper. Here are the stats that show the comparison between them:
End of 2006:
Sachin Tendulkar 35
Ricky Ponting 33
End of 2007:
Sachin Tendulkar 37
Ricky Ponting 33
End of 2008:
Sachin Tendulkar 41
Ricky Ponting 37
End of 2009:
Sachin Tendulkar 43
Ricky Ponting 38
2010
Sachin Tendulkar 47
Ricky Ponting 39
So guys, what do you reckon, has the Little Master returned to his very best form? or is there even more to come? How long does he have left?

:cool2: .. I remember STAR sports having a discussion when Sachin turned 30 and Harsha & co were talking about how well Sachin would play after 30 and looked back at the history.. Steve Waugh, Brian Lara, Sunil Gavaskar were the names under the discussion and it looked like they all went from good to best after 30.
We all thought Sachin would follow their footsteps, and started off awfully after his 30th birthday.. I think his form waved like dolphin jumps for sometime before 2007 happened.. The first century in his recent form that I remember off is the consecutive hundreds against Australia in Australia in the ODIs which proved his presence when the others of the "fab four" went given taa taa.. Dhoni, who knows how to speak, mentioned that "Sachin is a senior player and this is expected from him " Taking this is in the right way, this is what we expect from him to show his excellence and technic which had not faded away.
With the strong support from Cheeka ( being a fan himself), Tendulkar will play 2011 and should lift the trophy. In the lines of Glenn McGrath, who won the MOS in his retiring 2007 WC, I strongly wish/pray/beg/or whatever for Sachin to have his hands full with MOS and the WC.
Fingers Crossed but keeping the hopes HIGH

There is this super eight games in Singapore, IPLs, English County ( am sure he will be a part of this, Stuart Law, Gillespie ellam ippa kooda vilaiyaadumbodhu, even he can play).. BCCI listens up as Sachin bats for Tests
TNN, Feb 21, 2010, 01.14am IST
NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) sudden desire to organize Test matches this year - Australia is being persuaded to play a couple of fixtures after the two-match series with South Africa - is not just to do with a belated concern for India's number one ranking.
The Board is undoubtedly keen the Indian team plays enough cricket to defend its numero uno slot, but Test matches are being given a big helping hand behind the scenes by master batter Sachin Tendulkar. The cricket icon has been concerned that Tests might be losing priority in the wake of the growing appeal and revenues clocked by the T20 game.
The 20/20 format has lured administrators of every major cricketing nation. The IPL clearly dominates but the tug of war over the relatively low-value champions league between South Africa and India indicates the premium on these fixtures. At the start of the year, India was not due to play Test matches for 10 months.
Tendulkar has taken up the need to nurture Test cricket in the way Australia and South Africa are doing with cricket administrators working hard to maintain their team's standards in the five-day version of the game. But India has focussed on ODIs and 20/20. It is thought that Tendulkar may even withdraw from ODIs after the next World Cup, which will be held in the sub-continent.

Sachin Tendulkar bats for conserving water
Mumbai: Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar has stressed on the need to save water as a part of his campaign on social issues concerning commoners at Mumbai.
Sachin TendulkarAs a part of this campaign, the Brihan-Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) unveiled a mass media campaign, and Tendulkar features in this bi-lingual (Hindi and Marathi) awareness campaign calling upon fellow citizens to save every drop of water.
Speaking on the occasion of the release of a CD of the awareness campaign, BMC Commissioner S Kshatriya dispelled certain recent newspaper reports, which pointed at possible hike in the rates of filtered water supply in the city.
Kshatriya said, "In some news papers there were reports that Brihan-Mumbai Municipal Corporation will hike the water tariff but we want to deny these reports when our city is facing acute water shortage and there is no water in adequate supply."
"Then such an action is uncalled for and the need of the hour is to save every drop of water," added Kshatriya.
In December last year civic authorities had cut down piped water supply by as much as 20 percent.
BMC has said that despite heavy rains, which lashed the city in July 2009, the water level in the catchment areas of the city's six lakes has dropped.
The problem of water crisis is worst in slum areas as the residents of the area are forced to dig bore-wells around the periphery. Some are compelled to use the drainage water for household purposes. (ANI)

2nd ODI: Sachin, India looking to up the ante
Asheem Mukerji, TNN, Feb 23, 2010, 12.56am IST
GWALIOR: The buzz is slowly building in Gwalior ahead of the second One-dayer at the Captain Roop Singh stadium on Wednesday and once again expectations are the little big man of Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulkar, will deliver.
Tendulkar has played some very special knocks in Gwalior on a wicket that has traditionally been on the slower side.
His masterly 97 last time around, in 2007, helped India clinch their first home ODI series against Pakistan since 1983. The Mumbai batsman looked set for a century before inside-edging an Umar Gul delivery on to his stumps, but India went on to triumph by six wickets.
The genius was in the act earlier too, hammering a century (100) against Australia in a 2003 match which the home team won by 37 runs. That game also saw VVS Laxman scoring a superb 102.
Naturally, Gwalior has also been a favourite hunting ground for the hosts: they've won seven of the nine ODIs played at the venue. But for the 73-run loss to West Indies in the inaugural match in 1988 and the upset victory by Kenya in the Coca Cola Cup in 1998, India's record would have been perfect.
Curator Ajai Sahasrabuddhe promises a good wicket for batting, though he says the dew can spoil the party a bit. "We expect the bounce to be good. And to negate the effects of the dew, we will spray the outfield later on during the match," he said.
The pitch is bald and devoid of grass, but there are expectations that another memorable thriller will be played on Wednesday.

‘Sachin has climbed the Mt Everest of the game’
President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday congratulated Sachin Tendulkar for becoming the first cricketer to score a double ton in One-day internationals and said the “master batsman” has climbed the Mt Everest of the game.
“Sachin Tendulkar has yet again rewritten the record books of cricket, by climbing yet another Mt Everest of the game,” Patil said in a message.
She said in setting a new benchmark for the highest score by a batsman in One-day internationals as well as in notching up a double century, “the master batsman has set stiff targets” for future generation of cricketers to break.
Terming it a “magnificent achievement”, the Prime Minister said that Sachin has led by “example and that all Indians are proud of his achievement“.
Singh wished him many more glorious years in his cricketing career.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/soutikbiswas/2010/02/how_does_sachin_tendulkar_do_it.html
How does Sachin Tendulkar do it? How does a 36-year-old cricketer stay at the top of the game for 20 years? How does he retain this incredible hunger for achievement after scoring more than 30,000 runs in the long (Test) and shorter (50 over) versions of the game?
Cricket fans are asking these questions again after Tendulkar created history by firing the first double century in one-day internationals.
It was an unbelievable innings of brutal finesse - he smacked 25 fours and three sixes and batted just 147 balls to score 200. He simply toyed with South Africa's formidable bowlers.
"Take a bow master!", "You little champion!", gasped the commentators as Tendulkar walked back to the pavilion and the crowds went delirious.
"If anybody is deserving of this feat, it is Tendulkar and nobody else," gushed another commentator, and then ran out of words.
You are indeed lost for words trying to explain the genius, elegance and sheer power of one of the greatest cricketers ever born, but more so after his breathtaking display at Gwalior on Wednesday.
I think the best tribute to Tendulkar's genius came from former cricketer and present day guru of cricket writing Peter Roebuck.
"Viv Richards could terrorise an attack with pitiless brutality, Lara could dissect bowlers with surgical and magical strokes, Tendulkar can take an attack apart with towering simplicity. From the start he had an uncanny way of executing his strokes perfectly. Tendulkar was born to bat," he once wrote.
Tendulkar is India's biggest icon and proudest possession - I remember the rising crescendo of noise when he walked up to receive an award in a stadium filled to the brim in Mumbai two years ago. There were other cricket and Bollywood stars being feted that evening. Nobody could match the reception that Tendulkar got.
If you want to know how difficult it has been for Tendulkar to become the greatest cricketer India has ever had, listen to Roebuck again:
"The runs, the majesty, the thrills, do not capture his achievement. Reflect upon his circumstances and then marvel at his feat. Here is a man obliged to put on disguises so that he can move around the streets, a fellow able to drive his cars only in the dead of night for fear of creating a commotion, a father forced to take his family to Iceland on holiday, a person whose entire adult life has been lived in the eye of a storm."
It has been an incredible journey for this magician of cricket. And he is still pulling off new tricks and hitting fresh milestones. How does he do it?

39.3-van der Merwe to Tendulkar, no run, 105.6 kph, nicely played but Kallis was alert at short third, full toss and he opened the face to carve it wide of Kallis but a dive prevents any runs
39.4-van der Merwe to Tendulkar, 2 runs, 105.5 kph, appeal for run out, worked away off the front foot past square leg, Tendulkar calls for the second, it's a good throw from Amla in the deep and Boucher takes off the bails but Tendulkar stretches hard to make it back just in time, just a matter of a frame there, NOT OUT is the decision and the crowd, which has its eyes set on another milestone, heaves a sigh of relief
39.5-van der Merwe to Tendulkar, 1 run, 102.3 kph, tossed up outside off, comes down the track and drives it wide of extra cover for a a single
40.1-Langeveldt to Tendulkar, 1 run, 138.9 kph, Tendulkar is cramping as he's taking a run, punched down towards long-on for a single
40.4-Langeveldt to Tendulkar, 1 run, 140.6 kph, bowls it on a length outside off, heaved towards deep midwicket for a single
40.6-Langeveldt to Tendulkar, SIX, 138.5 kph, cross-batted heave, quite uncharacteristic of Tendulkar but he's in his zone today, slightly short on the off and he shovels it into the crowd behind deep midwicket, brings up the 300
41.5-van der Merwe to Tendulkar, FOUR, 102.8 kph, absolutely hammered, bowled it on a length on middle, makes room and kills it over the bowler's head for a one bounce four
41.6-van der Merwe to Tendulkar, SIX, 109.0 kph, Tendulkar's plundering the visitors here, goes past Kapil Dev's 175 with a thunderous six over long-off, not quite there to hit but he knew where it was heading
42.2-Kallis to Tendulkar, 1 run, 127.2 kph, had shaped himself for another big one there but Kallis bowls a quickish full toss, pushed down the ground to long-on
42.5-Kallis to Tendulkar, 2 runs, 129.1 kph, full outside off, steered just wide of point, AB throws at the striker's end, misses and concedes an overthrow
42.6-Kallis to Tendulkar, FOUR, 128.0 kph, Tendulkar equals his highest ODI score, a terrible full toss on middle, worked away wide of short fine all the way to the ropes
43.2-Parnell to Tendulkar, 1 run, 138.9 kph, he's overtaken his previous best with a flick to deep square leg for a single, 187 now
44.2-Kallis to Tendulkar, 2 runs, 131.2 kph, shuffled across and flicked it past the bowler, wide of long-on, enough time for him to scamper back for the second, Dhoni responds well
44.3-Kallis to Tendulkar, 1 run, 133.6 kph, Enters the 190s, full on the off, flicked away towards deep square leg for a single
44.5-Kallis to Tendulkar, 1 run, 131.7 kph, full toss on the off, pushed gently in front of extra cover for a single, he's not going to let this go now
45.2-Parnell to Tendulkar, 2 runs, 124.2 kph, he gets two more, short of a length, works it away behind deep square leg for a couple of runs
193 now....
45.3-Parnell to Tendulkar, 2 runs, 137.1 kph, he's reached the record, the highest score in ODIs, fullish on the pads, flicks it away behind short fine and the crowd erupts as he scampers back for the second. Yet another feather in the master's cap. And another one waiting just five runs away, Boucher comes forward and shakes his hand but Tendulkar's holding his celebration for a while later. Tremendous effort
45.4-Parnell to Tendulkar, 1 run, 141.3 kph, plays a textbook guide behind point for a single
46.1-Steyn to Tendulkar, 1 run, 145.8 kph, doing it in singles is the man, short of a good length, moves back and pats it wide of point for a single
46.3-Steyn to Tendulkar, no run, 148.3 kph, oooh, a bit of a leading edge there, full on middle and leg, moved across to work it fine, ended up going back to the bowler
46.4-Steyn to Tendulkar, 1 run, 147.5 kph, full on the off, shuffles and works it past midwicket for a single
47.3-Langeveldt to Tendulkar, no run, 136.7 kph, and defends! Lands on a good length and presents the full face as he respectfully plays it back to the bowler
47.4-Langeveldt to Tendulkar, 1 run, 136.0 kph, full toss on middle, punches it towards wide long-on for a single, reaches 199, Dhoni doesn't want the second, and he's right
And now, Tendulkar's batting on 199...
49.3-Langeveldt to Tendulkar, 1 run, 137.4 kph, single to reach the first double-hundred in ODIs, streered behind point, takes off his helmet and waves to the crowd, which is on its feet, so are his team-mates in the dressing room, a fan's blowing a conch, Tendulkar's soaking all the adulation and after a brief moment, gets back to his crease to face the next delivery

Former and present Pakistani players today paid rich dividends to Sachin Tendulkar for becoming the first bastman in the history of the game to score a double hundered in one-dayers and said he is the perfect "role model" for any cricketer.
"For any cricketer he is the perfect role model. The great thing about him is that he has been outstanding in both Tests and ODIs. As a Pakistani player, I know how much value we have always put on his wicket," right-handed batsman Shoaib Malik said about the batting maestro.
Former skipper and wicketkeeper Rashid Latif said the feat was no surprise to him as it was only a matter of time for Tendulkar to achieve it.
"I always expected him to be the first one to score 200 in ODIs, but I was surprised that he took so long," Latif said.
Another former captain Aamir Sohail said, "The rule is simple when you give respect to the game, then only the game will give you respect."
Batting great Javed Miandad said he had always asked Pakistani cricketers to admire Tendulkar for his down to earth attitude, hard work and passion.
"Records are there to be broken but it makes you happy when someone like Tendulkar does it. I think he thoroughly deserves this record and many more in days to come," he said.

Politicians of all hues in Sachin Tendulkar's home state Maharashtra on Wednesday lauded his feat of becoming the first cricketer to score a double century in one-day internationals with a breath-taking unbeaten 200.
"I don't have words to express my admiration for Sachin," MNS president Raj Thackeray said.
Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde said, "I stop all my work and watch TV when Sachin is playing. His knock on Wednesday was simply brilliant."
"Sachin's honour is Maharashtra's honour," Union heavy Industries Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said, describing Sachin's unbeaten knock as historic.
Bollywood actor Nana Patekar said watching Sachin's batting is always a thrilling experience and was more so today. "He is brilliant.... Everyone knows that," he said.

http://indiatoday.intoday.in/site/Story/85541/Sports/Sachin's+the+greatest,+says+Gavaskar.html
The cricket fraternity today hailed Sachin Tendulkar for becoming the first batsman in the history of one-day cricket to smash a double century, describing the feat as an incredible achievement.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar led the tribute, saying Tendulkar has established himself as the greatest batsman ever.
"There is just no question about that. He is the greatest batsman the game has ever seen," Gavaskar gushed.
"See his record! Who else has got 90-plus centuries, 17000-plus runs in ODIs and 13000-plus runs in Test cricket? He is comfortably the greatest batsman ever," said Gavaskar.
Spin legend Shane Warne, who enjoyed many a duel with Tendulkar, followed the innings and kept posting on his Twitter page, egging the Indian to achieve the milestone.
"(I'm) nervous for my good friend Sachin," Warne posted as Tendulkar approached 200.
"Come on Sachin my friend get your 200. World record to please! you deserve it," he said.
Once Tendulkar reached the milestone, the former player posted "Yes, yes, yes! Well done Sachin my friend. Congrats and well done! (It's) awesome."
Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar paid his rich tribute to Tendulkar, saying it was an incredible feat that spoke volumes of the batting master's toughness.
"It's an amazing feat to get 200 in a day and that too off only 147 balls," Vengsarkar said.
"It shows his mental and physical toughness. He's a player who does not throw away his wicket once he's set. He always places a huge price on his wicket," Vengsarkar said.
Actress Preity Zinta posted on Twitter: "Sachin ! You are my hero ! You make us so proud :-) Team India rocks because Sachin shocks the opposition !"
Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi also lavished praise on Tendulkar, calling him the greatest sportsman.
"Sachin - the greatest ever player ever - without any doubt," the IPL boss wrote on his Twitter page.
"I salute Sachin...world's greatest sportsman. We can see him only rise. (He is an) inspiration to us all. He is the best," Modi said.
Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara also paid his tribute.
"What an innings it was! He came close to achieving it twice. I always felt that Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya are capable of doing that," Sangakkara said.
Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad said he was always convinced of Tendulkar's greatness and stands vindicated.
"He is my favourite player. I had told that one day he would go on to break all batting records and now you see him scoring runs and runs," Miandad said.
Another former Pakistan captain Aamer Sohail attributed Tendulkar's success to his humility.
"I think if you ask Saeed Anwar (who jointly held the previous record for highest ODI knock), he would say he's happy that Tendulkar broke his record," Sohail said.
"The reason for his success is that he has a great respect for the game," Sohail reasoned.
Gavaskar, meanwhile, advised Tendulkar not to stop here. "He should aim for more. Maybe a Test innings of 450 or a ODI knock of 250. And then he himself wants to win next year's World Cup," said the cricketer-turned-commentator.
"There is a little boy in Tendulkar who wants to keep playing. That spirit keeps him going. It's absolutely incredible how he keeps going.
"A lot of others with his record would have had called it enough. But I guess there is no word called enough in Tendulkar's dictionary," said Gavaskar, whom Tendulkar often looks upto.
"I think he should go for the triple century in Test cricket. This is something he doesn't have but he is very capable of. This is well within his reach and he should go for it," Gavaskar said.
Former Test player Bapu Nadkarni found it difficult to find words to describe the feats of Tendulkar and said, "Whatever record is seen to be impossible to achieve, he makes it possible. That's all I can say.
"It seems as he's getting older, he is becoming more and more mature. No wonder Sir Donald Bradman saw himself in the way Sachin bats," Nadkarni said.

Tendulkar is an inspiration for us: Pak hockey players
New Delhi, Feb 24 (PTI) Pakistani hockey players Rehan Butt and Sohail Abbass today hailed milestone man Sachin Tendulkar for becoming the first batsman to score a double century in one-day cricket and said they derive inspiration from the champion batsman.
With his magnificent unbeaten 200-run innings against South Africa in the second ODI at Gwalior today, Tendulkar became the first batsman in the history of the game to have scored a double ton.
"I saw the match since I had nothing to do after our practice session. We all clapped after he scored 200. Cricket has never seen a player like him and will never see," ace forward Butt, who is here to take part in the hockey World Cup starting Sunday, told PTI.
Star dragflicker Sohail Abbass said, "Even after playing for 20 years, his passion for the game is an inspiration for us.

Ravi Velloor watches the cricket legend chalk up another landmark history.
EVER so rarely one gets to see history unfold in front of one's eyes.
For me, Wednesday will remain etched in memory for one of cricket's most sublime afternoons as the Indian batting legend, Sachin Tendulkar, crafted the biggest individual score ever in the one-day version of the game. At the end of India's allotted batting session of 50 overs against the visiting South African side, Tendulkar stood unbeaten on 200, having opened the batting three and a half hours earlier.
The previous highest in a one-day international was 194, shared by two batsmen one of whom, the Pakistani great Saeed Anwar, hit up that score against India during a fixture in Chennai in 1997. The other 194 belongs to Charles Coventry of Zimbabwe.
Anwar, however, had used a runner through most of his splendid innings. Sachin, 36 and already called 'grandpa' by some of his team mates, had scampered his way through the long stint at the increase, except when he was cutting, pulling and driving the ball to all corners of the field. More than once it was a lift over the bowler's head, like a golfer artfully using an eight-iron to loft the ball a middle distance.
Other times, it was a wristy turn from outside the off-stump (right of the wicket) to get the ball screaming along the ground way to the left. And after he got his hundred he treated himself to the field, opening his powerful shoulders to send the ball crashing over the boundary more than once. Most impressively for me, the exultation at the first century and then the double-hundred was measured. No excessive fist pumps. Just a toss of the head, a lifting of the helmet, a gaze at the skies in memory of his late father and a brief moment to accept the congratulations of his fellow players.
It was a reminder that in this day of sledging and refusals to walk even when you know you are out, there still are gentlemen left in the game. Perhaps it was appropriate that this particular landmark took place in Gwalior city, seat of what once used to be one of India's largest and most prosperous princely states under the Raj.
In the dressing room, awed team mates, some of them the lustiest hitters in the game, waved downwards in tribute.
I simply wiped my glasses in disbelief.
What hunger drives this athlete to keep on showing up game after game when his legend is undisputed? It is like Tiger Woods craving for the Majors long after he passes Jack Nicklaus's record of 18, should that ever come to pass.
Tuesday's performance delivered Sachin his 46th 'century' in the one-day game. In Test cricket, the longer version of the sport that is played over five days, he has 47 centuries.
No one in the world has had anything close to this. The batsman with the best chance of getting close to him is the Aussie great Ricky Ponting, the current captain. The poker-faced Ponting, who came into international cricket five years after Sachin made his debut as a 16-year-old cherub, has 29 one-day hundreds and ten more in Tests. But he is only some 20 months younger and with Sachin showing no sign of fatigue it is a good guess that Punter, as he is known, will pass into retirement without troubling Sachin's record.
At some point though, there will be that last walk to the crease for Sachin. It will come at a time of his choosing, because no one in India will have the guts to tell him when to go.
I just hope that he has better luck at that moment than the late Don Bradman, the greatest batsman of all time. Playing in his last Test match in 1948, the great Don was bowled for a duck, or zero, in just his second ball. It is possible that the sharpest eyes in the game had missed the line of the ball and its turn because they were filled with tears.
I just hope that Sachin, whom the Don once said he thought had the batting style closest to his own, gets a hundred in his last outing. Certainly, the Don would cheer.

A barrier that had not been breached in 2961 one-day internationals finally fell in Gwalior, and it was fitting that the batsman with the most ODI runs became the first to touch 200 in an innings. Just how extraordinary Sachin Tendulkar's innings was can be gauged from the fact that he had already reached 191 by the end of the 45th over, and was able to cruise to the landmark despite facing only nine deliveries out of the last 30.
The pitch map to Tendulkar tells how clueless South Africa's bowlers were against him: their lengths varied from very short balls to those which were knee-high full tosses, but nothing worked, as Tendulkar hammered boundaries off deliveries which were banged in halfway down the pitch and those which were full tosses.
Tendulkar's stats against each bowler show just how thoroughly he dominated them: none of them went for less than one run per ball, while Wayne Parnell went at very nearly two per ball. Charl Langeveldt was the best of the lot, conceding only 30 from 28. Of the 25 fours he struck - a record in ODIs - seven each came off Steyn and Parnell, while van der Merwe conceded five.
Tendulkar against each South African bowler
Bowler Runs Balls Strike rate
Charl Langeveldt 30 28 107.14
JP Duminy 20 17 117.64
Dale Steyn 37 31 119.35
Roelof van der Merwe 43 32 134.37
Jacques Kallis 24 15 160.00
Wayne Parnell 46 24 191.67
Tendulkar's innings was a perfect lesson in pacing an innings. He got into his groove almost from the start - the most dot balls he played in a row was four, at the very beginning of his innings, when he didn't score from Dale Steyn's first over. Thereafter, he made up for those dots almost immediately, scoring successive fours to get off the mark, and getting 33 off his first 25 deliveries. He slowed slightly in the middle of his innings, scoring 50 runs between deliveries 51 and 100, but then he went into overdrive soon after, scoring 83 in his last 47 deliveries.
A progression of Tendulkar's innings in 25-ball intervals
Ball 1-25 26-50 51-75 76-100 101-125 126-147
Runs scored 33 34 24 26 43 40
The small and fast outfield meant Tendulkar got 59% of his runs in fours and sixes (25 fours and three sixes), but he also did his share of running between the wickets, taking 56 singles and 13 twos. Only 34% of the deliveries he faced (50 out of 147) didn't fetch him a run.
Tendulkar finished with a strike rate of 136.05, which is the second-fastest of his 46 ODI centuries, but the best against a top-class team - against Kenya in the 1999 World Cup he scored an unbeaten 140 off 101 balls, a strike rate of 138.61. Comparing this knock to other 150-plus scores, Tendulkar's strike rate is in eighth place, with the two efforts in that unforgettable Johannesburg game taking the top two spots.
Tendulkar's hundred takes his overall century tally in international cricket to 93, of which ten have come in 34 innings in the last 12 months. It's been a phenomenal 12-month period, and at this rate a century of centuries could be his before the year is done.[/tscii:857e609bb5]

And KKD thambi played some great shots as well... None better than the straight batted six to mid-wicket off the back foot

Sachin Tendulkar hits highest score ever in one-day internationals
(http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/feb/24/sachin-tendulkar-india-world-record)
Sachin Tendulkar has become the first cricketer to hit a double-hundred in a one-day international, 10 months after his 36th birthday and four years after being booed off his home ground with his career apparently in decline. Somewhat improbably given today's innings, the abuse was for slow scoring.
Under Gwalior's floodlights Tendulkar ended unbeaten on exactly 200 in the second one-day international against South Africa, after 147 balls of beautiful destruction. He relied on finesse as much as force, hitting only three sixes as India reached 401 for three in 50 overs. The South African attack is widely seen as one of the strongest in world cricket.
Tendulkar easily passed the previous record in one-day internationals – 194 by Pakistan's Saeed Anwar against India in 1996-97 and Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry against a weak Bangladesh side earlier this year.
However, in the 49th over he seemed to have stalled on 199, and when MS Dhoni stole the strike and then hoisted the first ball of the last over for six it seemed he may end marooned short of 200.
But with the crowd baying for their hero, Dhoni, who had dealt almost exclusively in boundaries, wisely sauntered a single, and next ball Tendulkar nurdled a run through gully to reach 200.
He and Dhoni, who played a small tornado of an innings, added 101 in just 54 balls.
Tendulkar began with boundaries on either side of the wicket off Wayne Parnell and then played an array of cuts, pulls and drives.
In the first over of the batting Powerplay, and the 35th overall, Dale Steyn bowled a full, quick delivery outside off stump; Tendulkar walked across his stumps and flicked him through a narrow gap at midwicket. Steyn merely watched the ball speed away and shrugged his shoulders.
Later, South Africa began their pursuit of 402 in similar mood, but were soon overwhelmed by an asking rate of eight an over. In the 15th over they were 105 for six.[/tscii:d8489cae62]

INDIAN legend Sachin Tendulkar hit the first-ever double century in a one-day international in today's clash with South Africa in Gwalior.
The Little Master smashed 200 not out from just 147 balls, in a knock that included 25 fours and three sixes, as the hosts reached a mammoth total of 401-3 in the second ODI.
Tendulkar's new landmark saw him pass the previous best of 194 not out — set by Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry in August last year — and 194 by Pakistan's Saeed Anwar in 1997.
The 36-year-old is already the leading run-scorer in Test and ODI cricket.
And former India captain Bishen Singh Bedi said: "It was a great moment for us and another class act from Tendulkar.

Reuters (http://in.reuters.com/article/cricketNews/idINLDE61N1ZW20100224)
Feb 24 (Reuters) - India's Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman to score 200 runs in one-day internationals on Wednesday in the second ODI against South Africa in Gwalior, India.
The 36-year-old former India captain earlier in the day broke the world record for the highest individual score of 194 by Pakistan's Saeed Anwar and Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry on his way to 200 not out off 147 balls with 25 fours and three sixes.
Here are six facts about one of the all-time greatest batsmen and the face of Indian cricket for over two decades.
* A teenage prodigy, Tendulkar was born on April 24, 1973 in Mumbai and made his test debut against Pakistan as a curly-haired 16-year-old, becoming the youngest Indian test player. A year later, he hit his maiden test hundred in England.
* Tendulkar holds a number of batting records, including the aggregate one-day runs (17,598) and centuries (46). He also holds the record for most test hundreds (47).
* He had two unsuccessful terms as India captain, the first aged 23 in 1996 before being axed 17 months later after his batting suffered. He was reappointed in 1999, but stood down after a 3-0 test series rout in Australia the following year.
* Tendulkar was named player of the 2003 World Cup, scoring a record 673 runs to help India reach the final, where they lost to Australia. The next year, he equalled compatriot Sunil Gavaskar's world record of 34 test hundreds while compiling 248 not out, his highest score, in Australia.
* Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1997.
* Surpassed West Indies' Brian Lara as the highest test run-scorer in 2008. Lara had scored 11,953 runs before he retired from international cricket in 2007. Tendulkar has scored 13,447 test runs.

The little blaster (http://www.skysports.com/twenty20/story/0,26252,12344_5977360,00.html)
Tendulkar, dubbed 'the little master', crafted his way to an unbeaten 200 in the second one-day against South Africa - the highest individual score ever made in an ODI.
Reflecting on the 36-year-old's innings, former England spinner Emburey said on Sky Sports: "It was absolutely spectacular. There are no more superlatives you can say. Every superlative about that guy has been said.
"Straight from ball one he was timing the ball beautifully. Ok, South Africa didn't quite get their lines right but you've still got to put the ball away and time it.
"He was just measured in everything that he did including his footwork. He was going for the gaps. There was no slogging, they were all great shots. It was top-quality hitting.
"To go on and get a score like that was phenomenal. He knew where he wanted to hit the ball and he's got the ability to do it. He could perhaps have got a few more if Dhoni had not hogged the strike at the back end of the innings!"
Humble
One of Emburey's former counties, Middlesex, had hoped to pull off a major coup by signing Tendulkar for their Twenty20 campaign.
However, with 47 Test centuries and 46 one-day hundreds already under his belt the Indian batsman reportedly declined the offer in favour of achieving more personal milestones on the international stage.
Yet despite his ambition, Emburey revealed that Tendulkar remains modest and unassuming in person.
"He is very humble and very down to earth; he is not someone you'd see out too often," he said. "He'd go out to a restaurant but he's not able to go out much because otherwise he'd be mobbed.
"He'd sooner come to London and spent time here where he is able to walk down Oxford Street and do some shopping without 2000 people around him. He is held in such high esteem not just in India but around the world."
Hit
Tendulkar treated South Africa's bowlers with little respect during his record-breaking, 147-ball knock - and there was no respite from the other end either as MS Dhoni and Yusuf Pathan went on the offensive.
"It was such a good pitch," said Emburey. "There was nothing in it for the bowlers, including the spinner (Roelof van der Merwe). Every time he pushed it through he got hit, every time he held it back he got hit.
"The quicker bowlers were trying to mix it up, change their pace but they continued to be hit. There was no length or line they could bowl.
"I thought perhaps there were one or two periods where the South Africans didn't quite get it right. In the batting powerplay India scored 63 when Pathan and Tendulkar were together. I just felt they got their field placing and game-plan wrong.
"They were bowling wide and full outside off-stump with only a deep cover and no third man or long off. I felt in that period there it was getting away from them.
"India took that powerplay early, which is one of the reasons Pathan went up the order but when you see Dhoni bat the way he did you wonder why he wasn't going in before Pathan."

How Sachin Tendulkar almost missed it
New Delhi: The whole nation was holding his breath. Sachin was agonisingly close to become the first man in ODI history to reach a double century. Ironically, Indian skipper MS Dhoni hit the form of his life at the other end.
Tendulkar just one short of his double century had two overs to reach the milestone when suddenly Dhoni started taking apart Dale Steyn. As balls disappeared into distant corners of the Captain Roop Singh stadium, the whole nation for the first time perhaps in history, didn't want any big hits from the Indian skipper's bat.
Dhoni bludgeoned Steyn in the penultimate over to reach his fifty in just 29 balls. But India had never been less appreciative. The country didn't want sixes. They wanted history to be made. To make matters worse, Dhoni took a single off the last ball.
Also read:
No better bat to score ODI double than Sachin
Pics: Sachin leads India's quest for series win
Six balls to go. Dhoni on strike. Tendulkar still on 199.
Charl Langeveldt runs in and the whole nation chants for a single. But Dhoni smashes it for a huge six. Never has there been such a subdued response in India.
Hearts started pounding louder but Dhoni connects another cleanly. Another sureshot boundary but a diving Hashim Amla stops the ball and Tendulkar shouts a loud - NO - to a second run. The whole stadium erupts. First for Amla. Then for Tendulkar.
After a dot ball, Tendulkar taps it past point and that was it. History. The greatest becomes greater.
But as it is always the case in India, everything comes with a little bit of drama.
Maybe the shrewd brain of Dhoni had a bigger plan. He wanted India to cross 400. But then, in India nothing is bigger than Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. And today he showed just why.

I pray to God that Sachin brings more laurels to the nation: Lata (http://spicezee.zeenews.com/articles/story54757.htm)
Mumbai: Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar was all praise for Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who made a scintillating double century against South Africa at Gwalior on Wednesday.
Talking to Spicezee, Lata Mangeshkar said that she prays to God that Sachin plays like this always and brings more laurels to the country. A huge Sachin fan, she said that while watching the match she was sure that Sachin will have a good game but his double century was unexpected.
When enquired on her memorable cricket moment, Lata said that her favourite match has to be India versus Australia in Sharjah.
The jubilant legendary singer, who is planning to sing for mainstream Bollywood after 25 years, also said that she remained seated in the same position throughout the match.
Talking about Sachin, lyricist Javed Akhtar also gushed, “All of us either move forward or backward but Sachin Tendulkar is only going forward.”
“Perfectionism is a sort of an oasis in a desert but Sachin seems to have reached there.” Akhtar added.
Tendulkar became the first ever player to score a double hundred in the almost four decade old history of one day internationals.
The previous record for highest score in one-dayers was held jointly Saeed Anwar of Pakistan (1997 vs India) and Charles Coventry of Zimbabwe (2009 vs Bangladesh).[/tscii:225d2b07d2]

Yaaahoooooo (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/24022010/58/tendulkar-hits-200-break-odi-record.html)
India batsman Sachin Tendulkar became the first man in history to hit a one-day international double century with 200 against South Africa in Gwalior.
Tendulkar (pictured) broke the world record for an individual innings in a 50-over contest with a blistering innings which came off just 147 balls in what was his 442nd one-day international, and the second in the three-match series.
The 36-year-old bludgeoned 25 fours and three sixes in his fearless knock as India reached an astonishing 401 for the cost of three wickets from their 50 overs.
The previous highest score in an ODI was 194 not out, compiled by Charles Coventry for Zimbabwe against Bangladesh last year, and by Pakistan's Saeed Anwar against India back in 1997, and Tendulkar passed that mark in the 46th over before he set about reaching his 200.
Tendulkar, whose previous best score in a limited-overs match was his unbeaten 186 against New Zealand in 1999, is already the leading run-scorer in Test and ODI cricket.
South Africa's bowlers endured a torrid time after Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first on a belting wicket in Gwalior, with frontline seamers Wayne Parnell and Dale Steyn conceding 95 and 89 runs respectively from their 10-over spells.
Virender Sehwag (nine) departed early for the hosts at the Captain Roop Singh Stadium, but Dinesh Kartik joined Tendulkar and struck 79 runs as his partner obliterated the South African bowling at the other end.
Yusuf Pathan racked up a brisk 36, before skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni swaggered to the crease and crushed a 35-ball 68 in what was a thrilling finale to the innings as Tendulkar reached the unprecedented landmark in the final over with a dabbed single behind point to send the Indian crowd into delirium.
As Tendulkar departed to a standing ovation by the vociferous home supporters at the close of the innings, the Little Master was congratulated by every South African player and his team-mates, who were waiting at the boundary rope to greet him.

Sydney Morning Herald (http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-world/tendulkars-worldrecord-200-boosts-india-20100225-p3tz.html)
Sachin Tendulkar hammered a world-record 200 not out as India posted a massive 401-3 against South Africa in the second one-day international on Wednesday.
Zimbabwean Charles Coventry (194 not out) and Pakistan's Saeed Anwar (194) were the joint-record holders for the highest individual score before Tendulkar became the first batsman to hit a double-century in one-dayers.
Tendulkar, 36, reached the milestone in the last over when he took a single off paceman Charl Langeveldt, much to the delight of the sizeable crowd at Gwalior.
The veteran Indian opener smashed 25 fours and three sixes in his 147-ball knock for his 46th one-day hundred in the day-night match to boost his team's hopes of clinching the three-match series.
The hosts lead 1-0 following their one-run victory in the previous game in Jaipur on Sunday.
Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yusuf Pathan also feasted on the South African attack on a flat track. Dhoni hit a 35-ball 68 not out and Pathan 36 off 23 balls as India posted their highest total against South Africa.
But the day belonged to Tendulkar who delighted the spectators with his rich strokeplay, executing breathtaking shots on both sides of the wicket to reduce the South African bowlers to a state of helplessness.
India lost Virender Sehwag (nine) in the fourth over after electing to bat, but Tendulkar received valuable support from Dinesh Karthik, who scored a career-best 79 in a record 194-run stand for the second wicket off 29.3 overs.
India's previous best for the second wicket against South Africa in one-dayers was 180 between Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid in Nagpur in 2000.
Tendulkar went for shots early in the innings, racing to his half-century off just 37 balls with nine fours. He took 53 more deliveries to reach his hundred.
Runs came thick and fast from both the ends as Karthik also batted aggressively, cracking three sixes -- one each off Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis and Jean-Paul Duminy.
Karthik was caught by Herschelle Gibbs at mid-wicket while attempting to pull seamer Wayne Parnell, but not before he had put the hosts on course for a big total with his fourth half-century in one-day internationals.
South Africa made three changes from the team that lost the opening match, bringing in Hashim Amla, Duminy and Roelof van der Merwe in place of Loots Bosman, Albie Morkel and Johan Botha.
India retained the same team.

The wonder that is Sachin Tendulkar (http://blogs.straitstimes.com/2010/2/24/the-wonder-that-is-sachin-tendulkar)
- Ravi Velloor South Asia Bureau Chief

Sachin on stage...
R: 442 games, and then you get 200
S; I dont hknow how to react to this. but I dedicate this double hundred to all the people and who stood behind me for past 20 years and supported me during my ups and downs and this 200 for all the people in India..
R: Was there a feeling today that you were at ur best ?
S: Striking the ball well, ball was coming on nicely.... target I felt was a good target was .. anywhere between 340 and 350.. but fantastic batting Yusuf, MS and Karthik... becoz of the big hitting..
R: NO wickets in batting powerplay
S: every over virtually, big shots were played and I felt Yusuf came and he changed the momentum and then MS.
R: when did you think that you will reach 200
S: when probably I was 175 + and there were only 42 overs bowled and I felt there is achcance. I was not thinking of it, when I got really close it , I thought I will do it..
R: two decades in a game some respect for bowlers ?
S: enjoyed my cricket.. always done what I felt was good for the team.. There have been few decisions I made as a batsman.. as long as I knwo in my heart, whatever I do for the team, I must do it.
R: Cramp ? U did it all by yourself..
S: I lasted for 50 overs.. Its good.. good test of my fitness.. I would like to bat for another 50 overs at some stage..
R: Hungry boy.. fantastic performance.. A true masterclass..
S: Thank you

Tendulkar: I dedicate this knock to all the people of India, who have supported me throughout over the last 20 years. I was timing the ball well, and I felt that anywhere between 340 to 350 was a good target. I thought Karthik, Yusuf and Dhoni supported me well. I thought that a 200 would be possible once I crossed 175 in the 42nd over. I am enjoying my cricket at the moment. There have been a few bad decisions I have made as a batsman, but as long as the passion is there I will carry on. It feels good that I lasted the 50 overs, it was a good test of my fitness and I would like to do this once again.

50th over first ball six . I don't remember the last time there was such a unanimous cursing of a six-hitting batsman. Second ball, Hashim Amla fielded well and restricted them to a single thus Sachin got strike. Else there is no telling what may have happened.

There couldn’t be a bigger celebration as well as irony than this! While the world celebrated the super success of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar -- who became the first batsman ever to score 200 runs in the history of the 50-over game - his wife Anjali, however had another nail biting moment ... a concern radically different than her husband’s success.
The Tendulkar residence wore a quiet look. Yes, even as Sachin was rewriting history on his own terms, wife Anjali was preoccupied. She is painstakingly busy preparing their kids, Sarah and Arjun, for the final examination that’s going to be held from tomorrow morning and has therefore locked herself up with the kids and has given strict instructions to the security and housemaids at their Bandra residence to not to disturb her. Even the media that had gone to get bytes from her were requested to leave as Anjali didn’t want to be disturbed.
Naturally, contemporary cricket’s first Lady Tendulkar is pretty much fine, even if she has to let go today’s special night by being busy with her do anmol ratn (two precious kids) and equipping them to face the demons of exams tomorrow. However, son Arjun and daughter Sarah, who couldn’t contain their excitement, stole some moments to watch daddy dearest in action. “I couldn’t watch the entire match as I was studying for my exams tomorrow. But I am very happy, very excited,” said an excited 10 year old Arjun Tendulkar.
It’s not that the family didn’t whole heartedly participate in the jubilant moment of the master blaster. Everyone rejoiced in the news, but soon after things at home were pretty much normal, with Anjali locking herself in the room with her kids, and Sachin’s mother undergoing her routine treatment by the nurses.
A source close to the family says, “We all rejoiced when we heard the news. Even Sarah and Arjun were informed, but Anjali bhabi has instructed us not to make too much noise or disturb her at this point as the children may get distracted. Even the media was asked to go back.” [/tscii:3b35f84082]

50th over first ball six . I don't remember the last time there was such a unanimous cursing of a six-hitting batsman. Second ball, Hashim Amla fielded well and restricted them to a single thus Sachin got strike. Else there is no telling what may have happened.

Thank god. I am alive to watch such a master craftsman in action. Honestly, I thought either Sehwag or Yuvi will break Anwar's record one day. I didn't place my bet on Sachin for some odd reason. I am glad that I have been proved wrong. But I have to admit that something big was gonna happen in today's match.
When Sunil Gavaskar emotionally said in CNN IBN that he wants to bend and touch Sachin's feet, I couldn't control myself. What better accolade that u can get from India's previous batting mainstay? Few ppl impressed me a lot today. Mark Boucher, who wasted no time in congratulating Sachu when he broke Anwar's record, Dhoni, who took the attack to the proteas and asked Sachin to take only singles and reach the 200 run mark safely. Warne, Ravi Shastri (I was praying god that LSRK does'nt commentate when Sachu reaches the milestones).

sachin could have gone to 225 odd if he had been given enough deliveries which would have been unsurpassable.
Infact the single of the second ball of the last over was because of a splendid effort of amla...or else its a sure shot boundary..not sure what dhoni was thinking.

Wall Street Journal joins the bandwagon (http://tinyurl.com/yjl2r8v).
Sachin Breaks ODI Record, Slams 200 Runs
India's Sachin Tendulkar has scored the first ever double-century in one-day international cricket, reaching the landmark against South Africa.
Mr. Tendulkar's 200 not out on Wednesday beat the previous highest score of 194, made by Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry against Bangladesh in Bulawayo last August and Saeed Anwar of Pakistan against India at Chennai in May 1997.
Mr. Tendulkar's previous best was 186 not out against New Zealand at Hyderabad in November 1999.
Highest individual batting scores in one-day international cricket (x-denotes not out):
200-x Sachin Tendulkar, India vs. South Africa, Gwalior, February 2010
194-x Charles Coventry, Zimbabwe vs. Bangladesh, Bulawayo, August 2009
194 Saeed Anwar, Pakistan vs. India, Chennai, May 1997
189-x Viv Richards, West Indies vs. England, Manchester, May 1984
189 Sanath Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka vs. India, Sharjah, October 2000
188-x Gary Kirsten, South Africa vs. United Arab Emirates, Rawalpindi, February 1996
186-x Sachin Tendulkar, India vs. New Zealand, Hyderabad, November 1999
183-x Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India vs. Sri Lanka, Jaipur, October 2005
183 Sourav Ganguly, India vs. Sri Lanka, Taunton, May 1999
181-x Matthew Hayden, Australia vs. New Zealand, Hamilton, February 2007
181 Viv Richards, West Indies vs. Sri Lanka, Karachi, October 1987

Maybe the shrewd brain of Dhoni had a bigger plan. He wanted India to cross 400. But then, in India nothing is bigger than Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. And today he showed just why.
These are strong words from the IBN owned cricketnext.. This has to be in everybody's mind as what Dhoni was doing.. I dont want to bring up this again, but want to put my agony here..

My friend forwarded me when I was questioning Dhoni. He picked this up from cricinfo and this is what Ravi had to say...
"Dhoni was unthinkably brilliant. Even though the whole excitement and focus was about Sachin getting to 200, Dhoni didn't let it bother him. Rather, he used the most mature strategy. He went after the bowlers, took away their attention from Sachin, gave Sachin a breathing space, and perfectly set the stage for him to get to 200 without hiccups. In the process, also knowing Sachin won't be able to get wild, Dhoni took the burden on his shoulders to smash the bowling and get the score past 400. I thought that Dhoni bit was quite special. One doesn't expect such things from an Indian captain after Gavaskar - but one can expect it from Dhoni."

My only argument is atleast for me India's team victory is bigger than any individual players achievement. But in Cinema definitely Rajini is bigger than the movie he acts. Because I can't equate movie to Team India. Again it is my personal opinion. Even I was there in the same mentality of Sachin's fans when I was HC fan of Sachin. But one of my closest friend changed my stand.

Yeah i cannot .... but I know Dravid's score in both innings and how he reached 100 200 blah blah ...
but still we remember the innings because he played for the country ...

So, when he needs to score 1 run for 200, sachin will get rest by running dhoni's singles? :rotfl3:
And Sachin last over third ball-la edutha single-a modhallaye eduthirundha enna koranju poirukkum? How is it going to affect the team's score? Unless Dhoni didn't trust Sachin to get a single of the first ball he faces..

Appo unthinkable brilliance illaingreenglaa
