Nov, I have one suggestion.

Wouldn't it be better if the BO results are posted with No. of weeks.

This would avoid unnecessary comparisons being made solely based on rankings :D

The reason behind Vijay's continuous flops is poor selection of scripts and insertion of unwanted buildups.

Just look at the directors with whom he has worked recently..

1. SP Rajkumar
2. Babu Sivan
3. Prabhu Deva
4. Bharathan
5. Dharani

Barring the last one, no one has proved their true potential. Vijay refused to work with the likes of GVM, Lingu, Hari, Ameer for obvious reasons and he is paying the price...ajay
i think vj success bodhu kude periye directors ode work pannadhille..
perarasu,PD,ramana all sappe directorsdhaan..i thik its the selection of scripts and playing the same charecter again and again was the problem..

:exactly: I would say its both director and script selection both are equally important But I think their box office results will change now as both Ajith and Vijay are going to be working with top directors.

I would say one of the smartest moves by an actor would be from Chiyaan Vikram.... :notworthy:  Instead of doing the run of the mill cop story in Vedi with Boopathy Pandian he dropped the project and decided to move on to something better. The reason for the drop was he said he did not want to play a cop role that he has already played in films like Saamy.:notworthy:  He doesn't mind doing a cop film as long as it is a new type of movie and role. Now he has decided to do a film instead With A.L Vijay (director of Kireedam, Poi Solla Porom, Madrasapatinam) and this film will have him performing a role that is very difficult. The film is laced with emotions and is touted to be a feel-good family entertainer with two heroines. :notworthy:  This is an example of a smart decision from an actor

Vikram oru diff. script try panna nxt wil b pucca commercial try pannrar... he is not doing diff scripts alone right?

Honestly, as much as I like Vikram, one of my biggest qualms is the gap between his movies. In the name of quality versus quantity, he just takes too long in between. I would rather see him churn out 3 to 4 entertainers in a year than wait for 2 years to see a great "quality" movie. This is not Hollywood, and neither is Vikram Rajini to take as much time as he wants. Given his phase of career, I don't think he's being too smart! :(

Target? I've always liked Vikram ever since his amazing performance in Anniyan but I thought that this decision of dropping a project for a better story was a very wise decision from him. Even though Raaavan and Raavanan did not do that well at the box office look at the tremendous efforts Vikram put in to do the film that is something that should be truly appreciated :notworthy: ... I'm sure his next one will hit the top charts of the tamil bo because I got confidence in AL Vijay who has been churning out hits and blockbusters. Out of the new directors he seems to be a promising one

Chennai Box-office (Sep 17-19)

Sify,
22 September , 2010

The CBO is booming as the Arya-Nayanthara romantic comedy Boss Engira Baskaran directed by Rajesh continues to do extraordinary business in its second week. The film is reported to have netted an amazing Rs 10 crore from nearly 275 screens across the state, which is phenomenal by any yardstick. The marketing by Red Giants has also helped the film turn out to be an instant blockbuster, and it is the clear number one at the CBO by a mile. Many single screens in Tamil Nadu feel that since Enthiran release has been postponed by a week, it is advantage BEB.

The status quo is maintained in the second week as Salman Khan’s Dabangg is at number two. :bluejump:

At number three is Drohi. In the fourth place is Vande Matharam, which due to lack of publicity, could not take an opening. Finally in the fifth place is Naan Mahaan Alla, which after peaking is now sliding.

As i predicted NMA isn't upto the mark as Paiyaa and Ayirathil Oruvan... After seeing the film i found something missing.... BO stats aren't very good.... Should end up below Thillalangadi in MBO.

Was just seeing this MBO from bottom to top... Close figures but then suddenly double the amount from number 3 for a film that was panned by critics and people.... Was again stunned by the impact of the film at the top though being an out and out mass entertainer.... Thus clearly saying that mass films if given in the right dosage will definitely set the cash counters ringing be it any hero :)

Waiting for Endhiran and Diwali for several Biggies and hot updates here !!!

U.K. update: 'Enthiran - The Robot' takes a flying start in paid previews

Taran Adarsh,
October 1, 2010

Paid preview shows are a rarity these days and are organized on Thursday night only if the concerned distributors are super-confident of the film. The Rajnikant starrer ENTHIRAN - THE ROBOT took a superb start, by collecting £ 53,032 on 26 screens in its paid previews in U.K. [data of 6 screens not available].

The Thursday paid preview numbers of ENTHIRAN - THE ROBOT are at par and even bigger than several Hindi biggies. Going by the response in the preview screenings, the opening weekend numbers of ENTHIRAN - THE ROBOT in U.K. are expected to be superb.

Vinod, 120,037,148.00 INR is how many crores?

1 crore is 10 million indian rupees.

120 crore means it has taken 1200 million rupees. It is easier to translate it in Malaysian rinngit. 120 crore indian rupees is 120 million rinngit because of the exchange rate of 1RM = 10 IR.

The Indians need to come out of crores and lakhs to assimilate with the international system.

Normally its like this...

100 thousand
1 million
10 million
100 million
1000 million
1 billion

Tamil movies possible that too after indexing Ulagam Suttrum Valiban, Athi Parasakti and Aval Oru Thodargathai for inflation.

Indian movies i doubt it very much for there are many Hindi movies that ran 100 days in multiple cinemas full shows in all major cities in Malaysia upto the late 90s.

This is not to take anything away from Endhiran's incredible feat.

Chennai nilavaram - opening is the main thing for chennai movies - as most of the collections comes from the opening

Tamil movies possible that too after indexing Ulagam Suttrum Valiban, Athi Parasakti and Aval Oru Thodargathai for inflation..I lived thru that period too Karikalen.
Nothing, and I mean nothing comes close to Sivaji and Endhiran, in terms of public talk and BO.

it's still well below what we'd expect from a top star/movie. (Dasa was like 1M on 1st week)

not sure how long it will stay since they are reducing the screens/showtimes and pongal releases should replace it in a week.

He said Dasa made about 10 times the gross of AS.

So AS should be around 20 Crores (that if you believe the figures of Dasa)..

sakala,
My point was only related to Kumudam. They did not do any groundworks on this. They just copied with may be little bit adjustments from Wikipedia. My point was Kumudam is dubaakoor and it is proved again. :P Nothing to do with overall credibility of Wikipedia.

Now with respect to wikipedia, my opinion as below.

What they had considered includes all the versions (that caluculation itself might not be perfect). So fair thing would be mentioning only the amount made from the Tamil version alone for Robo, Dasa and Shivaji. Even if tamil version only taken into account, yes the first three would remain the same.

As far the rest i would say VV can go a bit higher and pokkiri might deserve a place in Top as well as Ayan.

This by not considering the inflation. Now i would go with Plum's view on inflation not being considered. If inflation taken into account, me might be getting altogether a different Top 10.

Wikipedia says Billa collected 60Cr and Anniyan 53 Cr. This is one example to say that the kumudam list is not fully copied from wikipedia. Infact not even one figure matches with collections pointed out in wiki. And moreover, for the movies some feel left out in the list, like Vijay Movies( Vettaikaaran, gilli) surya(Ayan, aathavan) the figures are either missing or low.

I dont know about other movies but Dasavatharam is widely reported and one of the rare case where producer himself gave interview with BO details. That the collections exceeded 200 Cr is being proved by multiple sources, is the reason why i posted that list.

ennamo inga irukkuravanga thaan buthisaali, kumudam laam websitela copy adichi thaan kaalatha ortrathu pola kumudam reporter bashing is ridiculous. Inge ullavangalukku mattum, websites, media vitta vera enna source irukku?? Oscar ravi oda auditorkku machaanaa neenga ellaam?!?

And for the funny old complaint that dasa BO is not considered with bollywood, and that as a reason that it didnt collect that much, i want to point out that, in recent past, atleast 3 times I have read in TOI that enthiran colections were not officially out. Now the point is, this is how, most of the bollywood treats South indian movies!

Unless one proves strategically and logically that, that kumudam BO about Dasavatharam is wrong, nobody(op-posers) has a point here.

Online Media links are fake

Producers statements too are fake, just to promote the film!

Shreedhar Pillai :

Pongal Box-Office- Confusing as all the 3 releases Aadukalam, Kavalan & Siruthai r doing well in different pockets.

+ Aadukalam- Very good in Cities, average in small stations.

+ Kavalan - Very good Overseas, Mumbai, B'lore & Kerala, OK in TN.

+ Siruthai- Very Good in B & C, Ok in Cities.

+ Verdict- All 3 major Pongal releases r hits and will make profits. But none r super hits !

+ Please note Vijay film released late and could not cash in on the opening. There was also no publicity of any sort.

+ Vijay himself is now promoting the film single handedly and is giving interviews 2 all media. Watch him on Coffee with Anu on Vijay TV !

[tscii:53dc506a5a]The box office status remains the same as ‘Kaavalan’ has gone ahead spinning more collections in box office when compared to the first week followed by ‘Aadukalam’ and ‘Siruthai. It looks like in spite of couple of movies ‘Pathinaaru’ and ‘Vaada Poda’ hitting screens, it wouldn’t have much effects as loads of releases are awaited from forthcoming weeks that includes Mysskin’s ‘Yuddham Sei’ and ‘Thoonga Nagaram’.

1. Kaavalan: Vijay proves to be a black horse again as he makes a strong comeback with his much suitable role of a soft romantic character. The film had a passable opening during first weekend as it released a day later after Pongal and lack of publicities. But, Vijay’s initiatives to promote the movie have drawn more family audiences to the theatres.
