Would u believe a one sided point of view by a blogger just because u want to read that the actors who you dislike fails on box office?

The movies that failed on box office were ATM, Villu and Sura. Kuruvi (budget: 18 cr, gross: 37 cr) Vettaikaaran (budget: 35 cr, gross: 70 cr).

This is not a fair comment. I have noticed that Ajith movie producers wait for so long time to get their movie released solo. I have not seen in the last 5 - 6 years any of Ajith movies releasing alongwith other movies. Ajith's movie releases once in a year or once in one and half years. So the producers wait long time till they get the right time for solo release. Example is they could have released against Saguni which they did not do fearing loss at the opening. Nobody stopped Ajith's movies to be released during Deepavali or Pongal where other movies too get released. But the producers do not do so and it is not correct to claim that others are fearing for Ajith's movies. It is for Ajith's movie producers to come out with the reasons for planning solo release for his movies.
Why is that other stars need to do solo release if the collections are good anyway?

Aegan - The King & Queen of Opening! Late Friday (Oct 24) evening, as Chennai was submerged in heavy rains, news has just come in Ajit’s Aegan has taken a bumper opening in advance booking. The trade is comparing it with last year’s Rajinikanth’s Sivaji advance booking! At Chennai’s 10 screens where the film is opening on Saturday (Oct 24), the advance booking has been very good in spite of heavy rains, and traffic in the city completely gone haywire. The film is opening in four Mount Road theatres, and all of them are sold out for the first three days! Exclusive: Aegan - A Sify special Sathyam Cinema’s has reported a record sale of 27, 355 tickets for Aegan, which is sold out till Tuesday night. Says Manager of a Mount road theatre: “The Aegan combo of Ajit- Nayanthara is deadly, and the film’s posters are very stylish and the trailer looks as though it is Billa-2! And news from overseas markets where Aegan has already released today(Oct 24) is very encouraging. The film is said to be a “rip-roaring entertainer”, and people are enjoying it. The film may turn out to be Ayngaran International’s first super hit!

There are two things one has to look in to BO numbers. One is opening weekend and total collection. The ratio of opening weekend and total collection widely varies or differs for each and every actor. I think, for Ajith, the ratio is very high (0.25-0.3). We could interpret the data in to two ways either the total collection is lower or opening weekend collection is higher as compare with his counter parts. For example, comparing Mankatha Vs 7am aarivu etc. As someone said, it is due to the fact that his fan base, mainly young adults. On the other hand, he fails to attract general audience. That is very evident from the 2nd and 3rd week of movie collection. It could be possible that the there is a poor marketing initiatives or promotion from producer or distributor or the content of the movie or poor word of mouth. That’s being said, producers and distributors use different business model/strategy when they release Ajith’s movies. They have understood risk and reward properly. So the opening weekend is where the reward lies. AASCAR is very shrewd and he exhibited the movie in maximum number of theatres in Chennai, probably in TN.

Saguni and Billa 2 were to be released on the same day. However, owing to technical reasons since the movie was not yet ready, Billa's release was postponed. Weekend collections in Chennai of Saguni worked out to be 2.25 crores while Billa collected a slightly higher 3.5 crores including the special shows.

Total collections over the opening weekend stood at 13 crores for Saguni and a whopping 37 crores for Billa 2. Subsequently, 10 day collections stood at 5.5 crore in Chennai region for Saguni and 7.5 crore for Billa 2. Overall collections were at 27 crores for Saguni and 66 crores for Billa 2. Trade Analysts predict that Billa 2 will reach at least upwards 90 crores in the weeks to come in worldwide collections.

Billa 2 is now in its second week and the overseas figures at the end of the 2nd weekend have come out. In the USA, Billa 2 has totally collected in the range of 70 to 75 lakhs till now. After Endhiran, Billa 2 had the biggest release for a Tamil film in the US. But, the collections have turned out to be lesser than anticipated. In the UK, Billa 2 has collected in the range of 84 to 88 lakhs, while in Australia it has collected approximately 30 lakhs.

Naan EE replaces Billa 2 from all bigger screens @ Chennai....

Rajamouli's Ee makes a historic comeback

After 3 weeks at the Tamil Nadu box-office, Naan Ee is just getting stronger and stronger. This Rajamouli film opened in more than 200 screens and continues to run in more than 180 screens even in the 4th week.

In its 4th week, lot of multiplexes in Chennai like Sangam, Abirami and Sathyam are shifting Naan Ee back to the bigger screens. Single screens like Kasi, Idreams and AVM have also accommodated Naan Ee again.

Such a comeback hasn't been seen in recent times and despite the fact that Naan Ee is a dubbed movie, the masses have just lapped up what they saw. The fantastic VFX and CGI have contributed to this dream end result. Looks like, the Ee will continue to buzz for many more weeks.

gen question of bo collections:

Tamil movies ku irukara areas : NSC(incl chennai),Cbe,Salem,Madurai,Trichy,Rest, Kerala, Andhra market, Overseas.
Overseas max is ~3 million for endhiran I think.
Larger Chennai area has a population of 80 lakhs which is 1/10 of total tamil population with higher ticket prices compared to the rest of the state.
Assuming a average hit tamil film can make 7-8 times the amt it grosses in larger chennai area seems fair unless its a superhit in andhra .
I think tamil movies 50 crore thaandaradhu kastam based on above scenario.
100 C looks impossible , the numbers look over inflated.. any opinions?
Mankatha 100 crores thandichu, 1 week la nanban 40crores ellam eppadi , doesnt add up at all.

I think the numbers are inflated - No body can know the actual collection of a movie - even the producer since first couple of days fans buy black tickets paying way more than the ticket prices.

even the actual production cost IMO may be inflated we donot know the Remuneration the stars and co-stars recieve.

Evlo adi pattum valikatha mathiri sirippu...

Konjam inga paaru kanna.....

The first half of 2012 has been an interesting period for Kollywood. It has been the year of the underdog, with small budget movies doing well at the box-office.

There have been 73 straight Tamil releases. The hits are purely based on Return on Investment (ROI) and classified accordingly. The number one hit taking into consideration only theatrical collections, it is Udhayanidhi Stalin’s debut film Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (OKOK), followed by Kalkalappu @ Masala Cafe. Both these films from theatrical alone have made their profits.

OKOK said to be made on a budget of Rs 13 Cr is said to have got an estimated share of Rs 25 Cr from theatricals alone. If you take into consideration its satellite rights, overseas, audio and Telugu dubbing rights’ the film can be classified as a blockbuster.

Sundar C’s Kalakalappu @Masala Cafe made on a budget of Rs 6.5 Cr is estimated to have taken a theatrical share of Rs 11 Cr, making it a super hit if satellite rights are also included.

Three small budget films which can be classified as hits are Pandiraj’s Marina, Balaji Mohan’s Kadhalil Sodappavadhu Eppadi and Ezhil’s Manam Kothi Paravai, which are profitable if theatricals and other rights are taken into consideration. These films did reasonably well in theatres but will turn profitable only if other rights are also included.

The other films which are average or break even for the producers concerned taking into consideration theatrical and other rights are – 3, Ambuli, , Kazhugu, Vazhakku En 18/9, Vettai and Saguni

The highest grossing film at the box-office during the first half of the year is Nanban, which is said to have made Rs 28.5 Cr from theatricals, but was made on a budget of Rs 55 Cr.

So far no movie had collected 60% of what Endhiran collected in long run in chennai, except sivaji and dasa. The weekend collection from abovementioned movies is close to 25 to 30 percent of total collection unlike Endhiran which had moderate 12% (of 17 crores). As anban said, a lot of change had happened off late in movie business. Nowadays, distributors have more skeptical about the long run of the movie, and also they are more movies in the pipe line to release before the end of the year.

As there is no other film other than 'Bus Stop' after Diwali that became the only film that is bagging collections. Thupaki, although proved good at openings, is not doing well subsequently. As Vijay has no market here in AP, the talk hasn't converted into collections. The film turned big hit in Tamil.

On a whole it was a weak week. And this week, there is some delight at box office as 'Damarukam' and 'Routine Love Story' have seen light. And from now till Sankranthi, there will be festival season at Tollywood box office with each film releasing every week.

And there is talk that ‘Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum' that is scheduled to release next week may postpone for another week. And many films are going to compete with each other in December. We have to see what all films will release.

There was a time when Tamil heroes and their dubbed movies had a strong market in Tollywood. The likes of Suriya, Vikram, Karthi and to an extent Ajith have been able to make good revenue here. But one man despite being a superstar in Kollywood has never been able to impress the Telugu audience.

He is none other than Vijay. But despite knowing his track record, one producer went ahead and took a high risk gamble. She is Shoba Rani. According to sources, Shoba has shelled out a whopping Rs 12 crores and bought the dubbed version of the film ‘Thuppakki’. The film had a simultaneous release in Tamil and Telugu.

Though there is Murugadoss brand factor as the director, the film has opened to phenomenal response in Tamil but average response in Telugu. It is heard that Shoba Rani already has one more dubbed film ‘Marina’ lying in her office. So it is not sure what made her invest so much for Vijay’s film and end up in losses.

Yogaraj Bhat directed Drama has taken a grand opening in Karnataka despite mixed reviews in press, but the fate of Edhegaarike is still to be decided in the forthcoming weeks.

Drama is sure to become a hit, but the range of business that the film makes has also become uncertain because of the confused picture emerging from the reviews and audience feed back.

Nagarjuna starrer Damarukam has not been able to attract big crowds.

The English film Life of Pi in 3D is getting very good collections. It is the Tamil film Thupaaki and Shah Rukh Khan`s JTHJ which is still ruling the roost..

Last Friday there were two films which hit the screens and one was a biggie while the other was a small flick. We are talking about the duo of ‘Damarukam’ and ‘Routine Love Story’ respectively and here is a look at the response for these two from the overseas audience.

‘Damarukam’ took off to a flying start in its opening weekend. Sources say the film collected $ 1,08,882 [Rs. 60.47 lacs] and this is from a total of 20 screens. As a result, the per screen average worked out to $ 5,444. The bad luck for the film is they didn't get enough theatres otherwise it would have crossed 1 cr easily.

‘Routine Love Story’ didn’t open as expected. In its opening weekend, it is heard that the film has collected $ 8,300 [Rs. 4.61 lacs]. This is the revenue from 13 screens and the per screen average worked out to $ 638.

There was also the Tamil flick ‘Thuppakki’ which seemed to have created some buzz. The total collection for this stands at $ 4,52,734 [Rs. 2.51 crores] after its second weekend.

Aaskar Films head V.Ravichandran has thanked all the people who have made the film 'Dasavatharam' a grand success.

The film is going beyond all the expectations of the film lovers as well as the people behind the big project by attracting more and more people to the cinema halls and the number of the film lovers coming to the theatre is only going up as each day passes by.

According to the reports given by the various distributors and exhibitors the movie has been able to collect a fantastic and record amount of money till now.

P.D.Prasad of Siri Media said that 'Dasavatharam' collected a share of more than 3.5 crores in Naizam in just 2-weeks of screening.

Shobha Rani released the movie in Seedead.

As per her calculations the epic film can indeed be called as a super duper hit. In just a span of 2-weeks, the movie was able to collect more than 1.6 crores.

She also told that the movie is still running houseful and is strongly going on to a very successful third week.

The collections of some other districts in Andhra Pradesh in a period of two weeks are: In Krishna District, the film collected 70 lakhs, in Guntur it till now has amassed a share of 75 lakhs. In the East and West Godavari district, the film was able to collect 95 lakhs and in the district of Vizag, the amount is 1 Crore.

Did it take one full day to come up with this??

Veedokkade is said to be running successfully and doing wonders on the box office, the film happens to complete its 100 days and is said to be Surya’s biggest hit till date. It is said that K.V Anand denied all reports, which said that he would be remaking Veedokkade in Hindi with Salman in the lead role.

சிங்கம் - தெலுங்கு

The Telugu version of Singam starring Suriya and Anushka has not only obtained the biggest opening last week, but it looks as if the film would turn out to be a big hit. Despite the pirated VCD`s of the original Tamil film storming the market, Yamudu which was released after a gap of nearly four weeks got a stunning opening.

Singam was declared a hit from all the big distributors of Telangana, Rayalaseema, Utthara Andhra (Vishakapatnam, Vijayanagaram, Sree Kakulam) and Coastal districts of Krishna, Guntur, East and West Godavari. The Athadu impact has certainly affected the collections of Jhummandi Naadam which has also been affected by piracy.

Though the trade pundits are surprised over the hugely enthusiastic response for Yamudu, Suriya's Telugu films have always had a decent run in the Andhra. The Suriya-Tamannaah starrer Veedokkade, the remake of the super hit Tamil film Ayan directed by K.V.Anand which was released a few months ago also took a great opening in Andhra Pradesh.

The actor's biggest grosser in Andhra Pradesh is however the dubbed version of Ghajini, but it looks like Yamudu might overtake the collections in a few weeks. The fact that Anushka is a very popular actress in Tollywood has also helped Yamudu to register a fantastic opening. Yamadu's villain Prakash Raj has always had a large fan following in Andhra.

Currently it is Suriya who is the reigning King as for as dubbed Telugu films are concerned. Vikram, who is the other favourite actor of the Telugu audience has however failed to click with Villain and Mallanna, which were the Telugu versions of Raavanan and Kanthasamy

Suriya became 'Yamudu' for 'Jhumandi Nadam'
Andhravilas.com

It is few days back that Manchu Manoj's 'Jhumandi Nadam' and Suriya's 'Yamudu' released with one day difference. Incidentally both the film had got good talk at Box-office. But it is two weeks later, Suriya's 'Yamudu' is the winner and is going stronger in most of the centers where 'Jhumandi Nadam' is running. 'Yamudu' which is dubbed version of Tamil 'Singam' was declared a hit from all the distributors of Telangana, Rayalaseema and Andhra regions. 'Yamudu' has certainly affected the collections of 'Jhumandi Nadam' which has also been affected by Piracy.

http://teluguboxoffice.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1013___+&Itemid=34

Surya and Anuskha’s starrer Yamudu has completed 50 days in 58 centres. K E Gnanvel Raja has produced this film under Studio Green banner and Hari has directed this film. It is dubbed from the Tamil movie ‘Singam’ and was a super hit in Tamil. Speaking on the occasion on Thursday night, producer said “ this is Surya’s 25th film and has got superhit talk in Telugu. I am really happy that it has completed 50 days in 58 centres and running towards 100 days. It has also brought good profits for distrbutors and collected more than ‘Yuganiki Okkadu’ and ‘Awara’ movies. I am thankful to the Telugu audience for making this film such a hit.”

Except a new hubber (may be old too),no other hubber questioned Mangatha's success here. There were days in which BO collection of one film was updated with comparison charts and BW reports. Even I dont have faith in BW reports, especially after the OKOK comedy. But I posted it intentionally since BW and Sify (higher number of the two) is considered to be the benchmark here.

Nobody here claimed that Vijay beat Rajni's opening or Kamal's acting, at least to my knowledge. Every film that made it to the top of the charts had their own advantages to play with - let alone Thuppakki.

There are people in hub who dont like Vijay but they dont come here to degrade him/his movies. They stay away. Thats good and shows their good attitude. There are other set of people whose sole intention is to pull down Vijay and his movies. This clearly shows their character. The best way to deal with them is to IGNORE them.

You can't degrade bad films or bad actors. Just saying.

Tamil superstar Vijay has taken Kerala box-office by storm with his Thuppakki. The film was released on Diwali (November 13) in 124 screens, with even small towns playing it in two screens. Thuppakki went on to gross an amazing Rs 7.26 Cr in its first two weeks (Nov 13 to 26), which is phenomenal by any yardstick for another language film in Kerala. It is the clear number one at KBO, by a mile.

The trade buzz is that Shibu of Thameens the distributor of the film made approximately Rs 3 crore in two weeks, for a film which was purchased for Rs 2.50 Crore! Thuppakki is a super hit in Kerala and has a life time potential of doing Rs 4 to 4.5 Cr business for the distributor.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay joins the Rs 100 crore club!

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/regional/tamil/news-interviews/Ilayathalapathy-Vijay-joins-the-Rs-100-crore-club/articleshow/17964025.cms

The Rs 100 crore club in Bollywood is going strong with movies repeatedly crossing the mark each festive season and even otherwise. The trend, that started with Ghajini, has seen numerous films like 3 idiots, Dabanng, Houseful, Ready and more hit the bull's eye. Now it looks like the trend may have started in Kollywood with Thuppakki.

This Pongal turned sweet for Vijay as he is the second person, after Superstar Rajinikanth, to join the Rs 100 crore club. As the trade is buzzing with this news, the actor is happy too. Says Vijay, "I never look at numbers but my producer and distributors kept updating me on how well the movie was doing and its collections. I am very happy that it crossed the Rs 100 crore mark. This will set the ball rolling for other films in the industry and the movie business here will boom for sure."

With this flick, director A R Murugadoss becomes the first-ever Kollywood director to enter the Rs 100 crore league in Bollywood and Kollywood. Ask him if he knew the movie would do well and he says, "At the beginning of the film itself, we had decided it should be a flick that appeals to both mass and class and that it should be the highest grossing Vijay film. Luckily the festival season also helped us. Since the audience's expectations were fulfilled, the movie crossed a Rs 100 crore."

The producer, Kalaipuli Thanu, says about his movie's collections, "Thuppakki crossed Rs 100 crore in the first two weeks of the worldwide release of the film. Exhibitors called to tell me that they earned in just a few days what they would have earned in a year with this film. After MGR and Rajinikanth, it is a Vijay film that makes us happy. He ensured that everyone benefited from the film's success."

Murugadoss is currently remaking the film in Hindi with Akshay Kumar and as for expectations from that flick, he smiles and says, "Ghajini and Thuppakki were the first to enter the Rs 100 crore club in Bollywood and Kollywood respectively. Now my target is Rs 200 crore with this Akshay Kumar film."

VIJAY JOINS THE ELITE 100 CRORE CLUB

http://www.cinemalead.com/news-id-vijay-100-crore-club-10-01-131006.htm#.UO4v1ieecoA.twitter

Ilayathalapathy Vijay has entered the elite 100 crore club with his Thuppakki film. Vijay is the second person after Rajinikanth to join the club. Vijay is happy about this and hopes that this will pave way for more films to follow suit.

Another highlight is that AR Murugadoss is the only director from Tamil to enter 100 crore league in Kollywood and Bollywood. In Bollywood, his Ghajini with Ameer Khan has clocked more than 100 crores at the box office.

The director is now busy shooting for the remake of Thuppakki with Akshay Kumar in the lead and he says that he wants his Hindi version to enter the 200 crore club.

Cinemalead wishes the team Thuppakki on its prestigious achievement.
