[tscii:18b5d9836b]Finally Sundar.C’s dreams have come true. He is going to do the remake of Rajinikanth’s AVM mass masala Murattu Kalai.

Selvabharathy, who directed films like Ninaithen Vanthai, Vaseegara, Pasupathy C/O Rasakapalayam is the director and the film is being produced by Gunanidhi Amirtham, grandson of Tamilnadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi under his Soorya Productions banner.

The S.P Muthuraman directed Murattu Kalai is an all time super hit of Rajinikanth, which made him popular in the villages of Tamilnadu in the early 80’s. Sundar will do Rajinikanth’s role, while Sneha is doing Rati’s role.

Suman is the bad man a role made memorable by Jaishankar in the original. And the comedy track enacted by Suralirajan is going to be done by Vivek in the new version.

The 1980 film had great music by Ilayaraja with the number Pothuvaga En Manasu Thangam…, the pick of the lot will be remixed by Sreekanth Deva. One of the highlights of the film is the fight scene atop a moving train.

Sundar.C and his director will start the movie in the first week of December by canning the train fight scene in Shencottah. The camera is by the Goan cameraman Santonio, with action scenes to be done by Selva, a former assistant of Peter Haynes. The new Murattu Kalai is scheduled for release on April 14, 2009.

I liked Pasupathy. While I didn't like Vivek's mockery at Sivaji by mimicking him, I must say he did a good job along with Ranjit.
Comedy will be good at least.

Gosh, they are playing with fire here. Second Rajini remake. Vishnu Vardhan had the advantage of improving on the crappy parts in the original Billa. His was an example of how remakes can be better than original. Ajith did not copy Rajini and fit in well in the whole framework, coz Rajini did not copy Amitabh. A superior remake of an inferior remake of an superior original.

But Murattu Kalai was reasonable entertaining flick that was not weak. Its storyline has been remade by many films since. So, a remake Murattu Kalai will have the been there done that feel to it. Sundar C is so and so actor who can be entertaining at times. But attempting something like this could be make or break for him. You miss direction, do you Sundar?
