I've said this several times before, but I'll say it again. mahAbArathaththil mangAththA is the best comedy play in Tamil stage drama circuit. The sheer irreverence, the outrageous silliness, the brilliant sense of timing, it's such an impressive achievement. I wish the likes of Simbu Devan showed one-tenth the satire bent as these guys.

In 'alwA,' one of the actors was supposed to faint on stage, but while he fell on the floor, his vEtti malfunctioned a little bit. And SVS goes, "vizhaRadhu dhAn vizhaRa, ippidi AbAsamA vizhaNuma?"

S V SEkhar is really a superstar in stage drama. I have seen more than 5 dramas when i was in ANNA UNIVERSITY. Most of the time, his dram is the opening program of the festival (Techofes). He is pretty good in crowd handling especially college students. throwing racket is very poular culture in Anna University. One time when the paper rocket came to stage, the fellow actress with him feared and forgot to deliver the dialogue. so suddenly S V sekhar said "inga paruma nee dialogue marantha thala verum paper thaan vanthu vizhunthathu, naan dialoguela marantha vera ennnovo vantho vizhum". Everyone laughed and managed that very awkward situation. he used kalachify more Jayalalitha in drama in 90s.

:2thumbsup: for his stage dramas. I've seen two of his plays - Mangatha and Periyathambi (spoof on Chinnathambi & nattamai kind of movies). He's one of the few successfull stage actors post-80s.

Except for the mid part where SVS "betrays" Kamal and the unakkena meele nindraay song (great song, wonderful solo dance where he has to express his sorrow and still entertain the crowd), the film is a breeze. Always underrated as comedy. An ensemble comedy. One of few movies that Sri Priya is not irritating.

Yes. Simla Special is one of my fav. There's no strong story in that movie, but it had a unique vacation feeling throughout.Sort of Ninaithale Inikkum-esque.. Nice to see many drama actors in big screen. (also featured scenes from Mangatha, so it automatically gets my vote)
Sve and Kamal were funny as usual and featured one of Manorama's better comical performance.

Watched portions of MMKR again:-) Most double-act movies have this 'AL mARatta' comedy. In MMKR, with quad role, this aspect is at its hilarious best.

One example is the interactions between Khushbu & Kameshwaran. (The other day my wife was trying to play a nAyakan song on youtube and my 2 3/4 yr old daughter says 'ammA, bheem bhAi'):-)
