During late 90's & early 2000's (during the time of Vaali, Minnale etc.), Gounds was completely out of form & all the youngsters (irrespective of school / college, boys / girls) started liking Vivek. This I have experienced while I am studying, among my friends. Since then, there was no great Gounder comedy.

But after some years, Vivek seems to be boring & Gounder's classics get a repeated views & Gounder is ever entertaining.

I voted for Gounder.

I think it is a combination ineptness. He is not a good actor, can't carry a tune, tin man can dance better than him, and he makes it up by amping up his voice.

What I like most about him is the political incorrectness. Very bold and it takes someone like him who can insult even big stars on screen and get away with it.

As someone mentioned, he can make dullest scene, badly-written scene, very funny.

There is more, and there is always something about Gounds.

Kalaivanar has acted in more than 150 films and he was a leading comedian of the Tamil Film Industry during the 1940s and 1950s. He is the first one who used comedy as a tool to spread messages to the common folks, apart from jokes and slapstick antics. He has started his career as a ‘Villupattu’ artiste. He used his films to fight against superstitious beliefs.

After returning from Soviet Russia in 1950, Kalaivanar performed a thought provoking play, comparing the status of India in his drama, ‘Aymbadhum Arubadhum’.

Apart from acting in films, he was a talented singer and writer. He set up the ‘NSK Nadaga Sabha’ for the benefit of poor theatre artistes.

Actors like NT Sivaji Ganesan and K.R. Ramasamy got their big breaks only after acting in NSK’s drama troupe.

Anaimuthu, an admirer of N.S. Krishnan

Both N.S. Krishnan and his wife T.A. Mathuram never needed a rehearsal before filming. They acted with passion and worked for social change.

Most of his comedies stressed the need for eradication of the caste system and the ill effects of alcohol.

Many of GM's comedies had message. His comedy is just like an zen story / Hikoo. If you think after some time about his comedy, then you can understand the message. IMO, even many of the good actors/ stars never possess the DD, body language that GM had.
