Veteran Telugu actor Shoban Babu, passed away at a private hospital in Chennai on Thursday following a cardiac arrest. He was 71.
The senior actor, who debuted with a role in 'Daivabalam', first played hero in the film 'Veerabhimanyu', in 1965. Though he continued playing hero in several films till 1997, he was also playing small roles, in his career that spanned nearly three decades.
His fans affectionately called him 'Andhra Andagadu' (Mr. Handsome of Andhra Pradesh.)

Legendary Tamil and Telugu movie actor, Uppu Shobana Chalapathy Rao popularly known as Sobhan Babu passed away on Thursday morning following a cardiac arrest in Chennai.
The actor was 71 years old and is survived by his four children, three daughters and one son. Born on January 14 1937, Sobhan Babu made his debut in films with Daivabalam directed by Vasanthkumar Reddy, but the first film that hit the screen was Bhakta Sabari.
Sobhan Babu is one of the few actors, who worked opposite now politician Jayalalithaa. Though Sobhan Babu quietly exited from the silver screen, he was a big hit back in his days. His film Manushulu Maarali ran for 25 weeks, which was a record-breaking achievement in those days.
Although, Sobhan Babu was a widely acknowledged actor down south, he was never in favour of any of his children pursing acting as a career.
One can know the extent of his talent and fan following by the fact that he had received Filmfare Award four times, Nandi Award five times, AP Cine Goers Award eight times of which he bagged the award consecutively for six years from 1970 to 1975.
