View Full Version : oPod : let all online tamil/indian songs come to you

Often you like to listen to a song that might be, from say a movie you saw recently, recommended by a friend, one you read up about it (on hub or a blog) or something that just came up to mind. But finding it online is a pain. You have to visit online music sites and go through several pages just to listen to one song. Those days are probably over, here comes oPod (pronounced 'oh pOdu')..!
http://tfmpage.com/opod/
It's like an "online iPod" with huge repository of songs (tamil, hindi, telugu, carnatic,etc.). Should be simple to see how it works. Just type the beginning letters of the song, click on your desired song and listen to it.
If you need help, post here. Suggestions are also welcome. Try it!
Notes:
* Covers the entire collection of musicindiaonline.com for all major languages.
* Tested on Firefox & IE

I didn't hit the movie 16 vayadhinilE, though. (When I type pathinaru vayadhinile, it brought some movie of Year 2000). May be not available in MIO site as well...

firs of all great work RR.... thanx a lot...
i have a prob here..i get something called "methods missing" when i chose real player to play the above link....what to do??
RR
13th March 2008, 10:08 AM
app_engine: yes, seems missing. I'm trying to bring in the whole of smashits collection next. Then more songs will be covered.
baroque: cool(literally).. Thanks :)
karthik_sa2: have you listened to songs on musicindiaonline.com before? If not, pls go there directly and let it configure your browser settings. Then come back to oPod and it should be ok. Also, on IE, you may get some 'missing link' error. Just click ok to dismiss it, the song should play fine.
Thanks everyone.. Glad you liked it.

I developed this entirely on Firefox 2.0, and I thought it should work best on it. Only real player/media player needs to be pre-installed, no other plugins are required. It may be some settings problem. Check this FAQ:

Excellent work. Btw, can you throw us some light on how did you manage to actually *do* this? Web services or does MIO expose some public methods or feeds or.. :confused2:

Nerd,
No hacking-pa. This take a simpler approach: Screen-scrape music india online site and come up with a ajax frontend to it. That's all !
We should thank MIO for allowing remote linking of songs. Or this would not have been possible.

Can anybody tell me the film of the following song:
The music is by Deva & hero is "Valli" hero(who comes in "valli vara pora" song).
"ஏனோ எனை அழைக்கலானாய் அழகு மட மானே ஏதோ ரகசியத்தை காதில் உரைக்க வந்த தேனே வெள்ளி கொலுசு கட்டி துள்ளி"
If possible give the download link also.

Hi,
Am still unable to get online to listen to:
1. Mangiyathor Nilavinile - TMS in Thirumanam
2. Vaazhkai Odam, Odam Vendum - TMS & P Leela in Ulagam Palavidam
3. Aadi Paadi Dinam Thedinalum - Jikki in Kangal.
And songs from the film Karpukkarasi like the TMS solo Aadhi Andham Illatha Arul Jothiye
Do I assume these songs are not available on the net? Would appreciate an answer.

disk.box,
Fine so long as it worked. :) Thanks.
s ramaswamy: oPod currently covers only musicindiaonline, so no guarantee they aren't available elsewhere. You could try 'Song requests' thread.

RR,
oPod is brilliant  Big kudos to you.
If there is any feedback, it would be that the search is a bit scratchy.
As we type, quite expectedly the first letter takes a lot of time to return. By that time, we type the whole word. It shows the filtered short list for a second and then switches back to displaying the search results for first character alone (maybe because that search return is a bit too big and so arrives late?) . The search hits keeps on changing.
Sometimes it displays previously searched words.
As it is, it is already a great addon to the forum. I am still able to find the songs I want. Thanks :)
