I saw Marakka mudiyuma last saturday. wow ! Out of the 2 to 3 episodes I saw, this one is the best. Reason is - I got many information and updates.

I am not sure whether I have seen the movie in which NT donned the roles of Nakkeeran and Lord Siva before. Till now, I thought the one played by APN in Thiruvilayaadal is the best one. Never knew that Sivaji had done that already in another movie. His body language, expressions, voice modulation, delivery as old man Nakkeeran was great. However, I didn't like his performance as lord siva in that movie. May be because I have seen the refined version in Thiruvilayaadal.

I would like to see both the things mixed. I mean Nakkeeran Sivaji vs Lord Siva of Thiruvilayaadal . It would be awesome and a visual treat for the eyes. His study on the individual characters is just great. Nakkeeran is not APN, but Sivaji.

Did he guide APN for doing that role or APN did all himself since he is a great creator himself ?

I managed to see the fight in Raja. The one in which he smokes the cigar and starts for the fight. "naan kadan ethuvum vachikirathu illai" :shock: Dialogue, style and everything - boy - didn't this remind the obvious for me as mentioned by others here many times?

Sun TV showed the movie.
It had all ingredients of a good movie.
Songs are good Nan Petra selvam
Sivaji son of a rich man, decides to leave house(what a bold decision indeed) and marries daughter of poor uncle.
Uncle dies and later NT's wife dies after giving birth to a child.
Antony (Sambantham-Antha Nall film)helps NT, gives job and place to stay.
MN Rajam a doctor, missing child of rich man(Chakrapani) and sister of NT. Nambiar cousin of NT also treated by MNRajam-
Another story within the main story-VKR spoils Chakrapani and plots to kill him with the help of a girl who seduces him and dies in the process. Comedian Karunanithi kills her and gets caught and tells truth and NT who was mistakenly caught by police is released
Antony unites the family.

'பூப்போலே உன் புன்னகையில் பொன் உலகினைக் கண்டேனம்மா' என்ற பாடலில், பூங்காவில் நடிகர்திலகம் தங்கள் குழந்தையை வைத்துக்கொண்டு பாட, குழந்தையின் அம்மா பிரமீளா மட்டும், சற்று தூரத்திலேயே வந்துகொண்டிருப்பார். இது என்ன விந்தை, ஏன் இப்படி அவர் மட்டும் இவர்களோடு ஒட்டாமல் தனியே தூரத்தில் வருகிறார் என்று குழம்பிய நமக்கு, நேற்று ஒளிப்பதிவாளர் பாபு, குட்டைப்போட்டு உடைத்துவிட்டார்.

ஆம் அது அது பிரமீளாவே அல்ல. அவரைப்போல வேறு ஒரு பெண். அந்நேரத்தில் பிரமீளாவின் கால்ஷீட் சிக்கலாலும், அதற்காக நடிகர்திலகத்தின் கால்ஷீட்டை அட்ஜஸ்ட் செய்துகொள்ள முடியாமல் போனதாலும், பிரமீளாவைப்போலவே இருந்த வேறொரு பெண்ணை அந்த பாடல் முழுமைக்கும் நடிக்க வைத்து, பின்னர் ஒருசில காட்சிகளில் மட்டும் பிரமீளாவின் குளோஸப்களை தனியே எடுத்து இணைத்துக்கொண்டார்களாம்.

பாபு பேசும்போது, படத்தின் முக்கியகாட்சியொன்றையும் காண்பித்தனர். வெளியூர் பயணம் ரத்தாகி திரும்பி வரும் நடிகர்திலகம் படுக்கையறையில், அவர் மனைவி பிரமீளாவும் ரவிச்சந்திரனும் தவறான கோலத்தில் இருப்பதைப் பார்த்துவிட்டு துடிக்கும் காட்சி. நடிகர்திலகம், பிரமீளா, ரவிச்சந்திரன் மூவர் முகத்திலும் அதிர்ச்சி தத்ரூபம்.

ஒளிப்பதிவாளர் பாபு பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கும்போதே, எபிசோட் முடிந்துவிட்டது. அடுத்தவாரம் தொடரும் என்ற கார்டு காண்பிக்கப்படவில்லை. இருப்பினும் முழுமையாக முடியாததால் அடுத்த வாரமும் வருமென நம்புவோம்.

The child artist in Imayam is not definitely Shalini. As for as I know, Shalini was not even born when this film was released on 21st July,1979.

PP's rights (for tv and other mediums) has not been given, I believe. That's the reason it is not even available in DVD shops.

I think it's Sureshwar. He is into TV serials now and recently he had participated in "Maanada Mayilada" dance show in Kalaignar TV.

He had also acted as a child artiste in Ranuva Veeran.

In " கதை கதையாம் காரணமாம்" (Podhigai), the film they have taken for this week is " விடிவெள்ளி". 3 episodes have gone by now.

Y'day saw "Justice Gopinath" in Raj+ for the first time. It was quite an ordinary film. One of Rajni's earlier films, where he plays NT-KRV's foster son.

But, there's one scene which made me to sit up and watch in awe.
Actually, Major serves a lifetime imprisonment and leaves his kid (Rajni) in the safe hands of NT (the couple is not blessed with a child). Later, NT comes to know that Major has come out of the jail and is coming to meet him to enquire about his son. Now, KRV & Thengai both requests NT to lie to Major, that they have left his son in an ashram. Atlast Major comes and NT would be wavering restlessly whether to tell him the truth or not. Fantastic expressions. Finally he comes out with the truth. He will say to Major, " Un payyana paakala ? ippo veliyila ponaney, meesai (he just shows by action) vechikittu..." . Great !

And that again made me to say, " NT, NT-dhan.."

Yeah Prabha, it is an old movie released in 1978. But it was an Indo- SriLankan coproduction and probably that's the issue, it seems. I think the DVD is available in overseas market but it has not been given for Indian domestic sale. I am not sure. Let me check and comeback.

I saw the first half (ie) Vasantha Maaligai songs and VV Sundaram's comments about Jallikattu and the related scenes. Heard that AVM Saravanan, Ramkumar and Prabhu spoke later. Any other intersting thing was there?

Missed the first half sir. In IInd half VV Sundaram shared his experience and scenes from Jallikattu was shown. Later, unveiling of NT's statue at AVM studios was shown. AVM Saravanan, Prabhu, Ramkumar & others were present. Kamal came down to unveil the statue and everyone shared their feelings.

Next was the Chevalier award function were the famous scene of Kamal & Rajni garlanding NT (groucho's avtar) was shown. Finally it got over with a brief mention about NT's last day on earth.

Y'day watched "Pattikada pattanama" songs with my little daughter. Will do this very often esp.during weekends as I can never escape from my kid who loves to watch NT on screen and PP songs are one among her fav. NT songs.


One can see more of dance movements by NT is Ketukodi song than in Ennadi rakkamma. NT would just rock in Ketukodi, particularly when the song is nearing the end, where he would hold his dhoti on one hand and would whistle with the other and do a fantastic foot movement which is very very apt for a typical " kuththu".

I would never get tired of this song.

Dear Karthik sir,

Thanks for the alert & a brief introduction about the film.

Undoubtedly, KT is one of NT's quintessential performance. He would have just gone into the skin of the character and come out with a brilliant performance.

Remember the scene where he receives the death news of his close friend Bharathi. Holding the letter in his hand, he would slowly say, " ayya, Bharathi, poi vittaya...." (konjuvadhu pola irukkum) - and then he would gradually burst out..... :notworthy:

And that " sekkizhukkum " scene. I would always say this to my family members - that before the shot, NT would obviously be a normal person, and as soon as he gets the director's nod to proceed, he would immediately transform into a very weak and sick person who is unable to pull the machine (sekku). He would be a completely exhausted person who could not even stand steadily as his legs would be trembling. Brilliant.

After a gap Sun TV, this week is telecasting two NT movies. Other than Kappalottiya Thamizhan, there is Kizhvaanam Sivakkum on Friday. One of the better movies from Muktha and if I m not mistaken, this was the first movie for which Visu wrote the dialogues. Adapted from his stage play, it was an emotional saga and the one upmanship tussle between the F - I -Law and D- I-Law was well received. Saritha locking horns for the first time with NT was good. In fact on the same day (Oct 26th, 1981- Deepavali), she had another release Thanneer Thanneer and she was literally on cloud nine when both were acclaimed. Jai too had an equal role to play and he came in a NT film after a very long time [10 years gap. Kulama Gunama was in 1971 and this was in 1981]. For NT, it was child's play [ பத்திரிகை விமர்சனம் - சிவாஜிக்கு இந்த ரோல் அப்பளம் சாப்பிடுவது மாதிரி. ஊதி தள்ளி விட்டார்]. Totally a likeable movie.

Murali sir, not only in SUN TV, as Thirumaran said, Raj TV is having a blast by telecasting NT films for the whole month, but so sad, that it's being shown in the afternoon's.

And, on Wednesday, the much awaited film for me, " En Magan" is being telecasted (still I'm hunting for the DVD !!). Alas ! I have to "polambufy " like Dharumi....

Good songs, like "kadavuL ninaichaan malaraai koduththaan vaazhkai undaanadhE". We can see a stylish NT throughout the movie, with sun glass.

When the stills have been released before the release of this movie, our fans, who were gathering at Shanthi theatre every evening, were talking "indha muktha Srinivasanukku idhE vElaiyaa pOchu. 'namma aaLai' (NT) meesaiyillaamalE edukkiRaar". (we know before this movie, in Andhaman Kadhali also no meesai. But Imayam came in between with meesai but failed to score. After Keezhvaanam Sivakkum, in the mext film from NT-Muktha jOdi was 'Pareetchaikki nEramaachu', which also did not have meesai. Then fans turned the plate with sentiment, if NT starred in Muktha's films without 'meesai', then it will be hit. Yes..........

Pareetchaikku nEramaachu (more han 100 days)

Just before KS, muktha has released another movie 'Simla Special' with Kamal which was also a hit, crossed 100 days (we can see newspaper ad for its 100 days in Kamal fans website).

KS was released on 1981 Deepavali, and that was 'MSV's Deepavali'. Yes, all his four films run more than 100 days and songs were hit. Keezhvaanam Sivakkum, Thanneer Thanneer, POkkiri Raja, Andha 7 NaatkaL were crossed 100 days and MSV got shields for all the four. (Remember Ilaiyaraja was in peak at that time with joined hands of Bharathi Raja, Mahendran etc).

Since you wrote about KT, I had mentioned about KS.

One small correction. Pokkiri Raja was released for 1982 Pongal. It was Ranuva Veeran which came for 1981 Deepavali and that had MSV music. Not sure whether it was a 100 day movie. The others were 100 day movies. In the same manner, in the previous year also (1980), MSV had three movies released for Deepavali and all the three celebrated 100 days. Viswaroopam, Varumayin Niram Sivappu and Polladhavan.

You are correct. Pokkiri Raja was released in Pongal 82 only. But initially it was advertised by AVM as 'Deepavali release'. Thatswhy I got confused.

Ranuva veeran was not run 100 days but crossed 50 days (I saw 50 days newspaper ad in Rajini website).

Yes 1980 Deepavali also successful for MSV with three hits, but well expected Ilaiyaraja's movie with Barathiraja 'NizalkaL' was failed to score, eventhough songs are good.

No posts about Kappalottiya Thamizhan? Mohan is not there today it seems. It was a good Print and there was no editing activity from Sun TV side so that movie went up to 2 AM. In spite of being a repeated viweing, still didn't stir out of my seat.

First time viewer would have been surprised about the mileage given to Gemini. With duets, stunts and revolutionary speeches, if viewers had thought that he is the hero, they are not to be blamed. At the risk of sounding cliche, let me say that no Hero would have given such a weightage to other actors.

NT as VOC was excellent, to say the least. The scenes at the prison and afterwards have been discussed before. The earlier scenes are equally good. The majety he is able to induce in every character (according to the needs of the same) always used to fascinate me. Ditto here also.

As Mohan had pointed out (that was also shown in Marakka Mudiyuma) the scene where he reacts when the news of Bharathi's death is a special one. Same way the climax was equally poignant.

SV Subbiah was brilliant as Bharathi and TK Shanmugam as Subramania Siva was explosive. Savithiri barring certain scenes when she does melodramatically is her usual self and all the artists do justice. KD Santhanam, A.Karunanidhi, Rukmani, Asokan and SV Rangarao in a single scene (சுப்ரமணிய சவம்) did their parts.

There were certain parts that could have been better. Like Vanchinathan shooting Ash at Maniyachi Railway Junction. Well, in hindsight and that too after 47 years, it can be easier said.

Definitely a great attempt that evoked a temendous response from the public in the subsequent releases but was a BO let down in the initial run.

விடுதலைப்போராட்ட வீரர்களின் சரித்திரம் என்பதால் தற்கால கவிஞர்களின் பாடல்கள் எதையும் பயன்படுத்தாமல், முழுக்க முழுக்க (ஜெமினி - சாவித்திரி டூயட் உட்பட) பாரதியார் பாடல்களையே பயன்படுத்தியிருந்தார் பந்துலு.

Saw some parts of KT yesterdays.
As always, I realized I had never seen this film fully and only in parts.

Gemini's fight in the boat. Quite a long sequence, just three people. Very realistically done. It starts with the oars and it seemed quite forceful. Slight timing miss would have been disastrous. Then the one vs. two wrestling and grappling was filmed quite well.

Savitri was surprisingly pedestrian in the parts I saw. I am not a fan of SV Subbiah's Bharathi - even given Bharathi was himself an accentric character , and even taking into account 'time' handicaps - I felt he overdoes it. TKS as Siva is very good. Particularly the scene with RangaRao, which Mr.Murali mentioned.

One of the scenes I saw had Sivaji dismissing the people who come to bribe him. The whole scene he is sizing them up in his eyes,and finally bursts at them and flings the bag of money at them. When he asks them to leave, his last line is:
"DEsabakthi dhaan illai...drOgabuththiyAvadhu illAmal irukkakkoodaadha...karumam"

The way he says with a salippu (hitting his head) will bring out the contempt and irritation he feels - which make the character look very real. Overall , I need to watch it fully once - simply because it is Sivaji's favourite performance.

Yeah. When I first saw a photo of Bharathi with a beard and all, I thought there must be some mistake. He ought to be with a proper triangular turban, pottu, twirled moustache and all. :-)
Since every single fancy dress competition had one kid like that: PEsum poRchiththiram :-) It took me some time to unlearn it.

I really liked Sayaji Shinde's performance in Bharathi. But I know many who don't think much of that performance. When watching the movie on TV once in one of my favourite scenes my aunt got up and walked away declaring " SV Subbiah thavira yaaralayum BharathiyA nadikka mudiyaadhu". :roll:

saw kappolotia tamizhan yesterday...what a movie???NT acting was chanceless...most of the times i was just crying...there was one more character meenakshi sundaram<chidambaram's brother>...he stunned me with a cameo...i dont even know who he is but he was just awesome...few scenes of NT acting that had me in splits ... blind dalit boy ...when the boy says don't touch me ....NT instanteous reaction with a shock...then the scene where he and subramaniya siva meets a britisher<rengarao>reminded a bit of kattaboman though...his first meeting with bharthiyar...bharathityar who is such a mahakavi looked dumb in fronnt of NT acting...
then his suffereings in jail...i jus couldn stop crying..its not the scene or suffereing that made me cry but his acting and expressions...its jus unbelievable at the age of 30 od he was able to act like a old man..his walk,his eyes, :notworthy: then the scene when NT meets subramaniya siva after coming out from the jail....mindblowing performance by both of them...and the most unbelieveable scene the scene when NT comes to know about bharathi's death...just with the eye expression he made me cry again :( i had evertyhing on me goosefleshes all over...i don see even KAMALHASAN acting like this or could act like this ever..i didn know much about chidambaranar until i saw this movie...thanks to NT yet again for making me know that chidambaranar was a great freedom fighter and humanbeing...i heard he has written a lot of self improvement books also...NT has certainly induced me now to know more about the kappalotia tamizhan chidambaranar...salute to NT

Regret so much for having missed KT on TV. But as I have seen it many times, most of the scenes are still vivid in my memory. Undoubtedly a great film and a must watch for all the kids of present generation. Not only to have an idea about our freedom struggle, the martyrs & the great VOC, who must be remembered always for his selfless deeds, but to also to recognise and appreciate the great man NT who brought VOC live on celluloid.

While talking about old man characters, he not only portrayed a weak, trembling old man, but he also gave us a majestic old man in so many characters he did, eg. Barrister Rajnikanth, SP Chowdhary, in Enga oor Raja.... etc.,

அர்ஜுனனாக வந்தாலென்ன, அரிச்சந்திரனாக வந்தாலென்ன; வேலன், நந்தன், பகத்சிங், திருப்பூர் குமரன் - எந்த வேடமானாலும் சரி, சிவாஜியின் நடிப்பு சுடர் விட்டுத் தெறிப்பதற்குச் சொல்லவா வேண்டும்? நேரத்திற்கொரு தோற்றம் காட்டுகிறார்; நிமிடத்திற்கு ஓர் உணர்ச்சி யைப் படைக்கிறார். 'ராஜபார்ட் ரங்கதுரை' ஆயிற்றே!

பிரசவிக்கப்போகும் தங்கையைப் பார்க்க வரும்படி, பணக்காரரின் மருமகனாகிவிட்ட தன் தம்பியை (ஸ்ரீகாந்த்) அழைக்கப்போன இடத்தில் சிவாஜி நாடகமாடுவதும், பாடுவதும் நெஞ்சைப் பிழிந்தெடுக்கின்றன. தம்பியை அழைத்து வரமுடியாத நிலையில் தங்கை ஜெயாவிடம் சமாதானம் சொல்கிறாரே, அது மட்டும் சளைத்ததா என்ன? தன்னுடைய மாமனாருக்கு முன்னால் வந்து, 'ராஜபார்ட் ரங்கதுரை தன் அண்ணன் அல்ல' என்று நாடகமாடும்படி ஸ்ரீகாந்த் கேட்டுக் கொண்டபடி நடக்கிறாரே, அது சிகரமான காட்சி!

கல்யாண வீட்டில் வெறும் பார்வை யினால் மௌனப் புரட்சி நடத்துவதும், தங்கைக்குக் கொள்ளி வைத்துவிட்டுத் திரும்பும்போது சசிகுமாரிடம், ''நீங்கள் ளாம் ஒரு மனுஷனாடா, சீ போடா!'' என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு வருவதும் சிவாஜிக்கே உரிய முத்திரை!

ராஜபார்ட்டின் வாழ்க் கையில் ஸ்திரீ பார்ட்டை ஏற்கும் உஷாநந்தினி சிறிதும் சோபிக்கவில்லை. தமிழ்த் திரை உலகில் அவர் ஏனோ எடுபடவே இல்லை! ஆனால், நாடக ஸ்திரீ பார்ட்டான மனோரமா சற்று அழுத்த மாகவே சிரிக்க வைக் கிறார். ரங்கதுரையின் தம்பியான ஸ்ரீகாந்தும் குமாரி பத்மினியும் வரும் காட்சிகளில் வார்த்தைப் பஞ்சம் இருந்தாலும், கலகலப்பு இருக்கிறது.

கதைப் போக்கில் வரும் காட்சி களை விட நாடக மேடைக் காட்சிகளே திரும்பத் திரும்பத் வருகின்றன. நவரசக்காட்சி களாக அவை அமைந்திருக்கின் றன என்பதில் சந்தேகமில்லை. ஆனால், துண்டுத் துண்டாகத் தனித்து நிற்பது போல் உணரத் தோன்றுகிறது. டைரக்டர் இன் னும் கொஞ்சம் முயன்றிருக்க லாம். கடைசி நாடகக் காட்சி யான 'கொடி காத்த குமரன்' நாடகப் பின்னணிகள் சிறப்பாக உருவாக்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன. கதையைப் பொறுத்தவரை ராஜபார்ட் ரங்கதுரை இறந்து போவது சரியான முடிவாக இருக்கலாம். ஆனால், 'ஒரு நாடக நடிகனின் கதி இப்படித் தான் ஆகும்' என்று சொல்லிக் காட்டுவது போல் இருக்கிறது. வேறு வழியில்லைதான்!

'அம்மம்மா... தம்பி என்று நம்பி' பாடல் மனத்தை உருக்கு கிறது.

'ராஜபார்ட் ரங்கதுரை' நடிப்பில் அசல் 'ராஜபார்ட்!'

Saw "Keezhvaanam sivakkum" :clap: . Sivaji & Saritha = :thumbsup: Amazing performance. Sivaji yoda potti pottu nalla nadikkura oru sila nadigaigalil Sarithavayum oruvar. At one moment, it was like seeing a fight between a big cat (lion) and a small one.

Dialogues were good esp for Sivaji and Saritha...
The way Sivaji replies to Saritha.. :lol:
Sivaji : ennamma poosanikkai kedaichuthaa ? :rotfl: :rotfl2: :thumbsup:

and "Ithu hyderabad grapes".. and SAritha : athaan pulikkuthu :lol:

I liked sivaji's performance in many scenes. His acting towards the end esp when he comes to know that the report had reached Saritha's hands. Top class ! The walk, hair style and delivery somewhat reminded his Vietnam Veedu performance.

HIs interaction with the MLA. (looked like a political attack though :wink: )

The last sequence that extends the climax made it look archaic. Director must have ended the movie once Jai leaves. Jai was OK.

AFA songs are concerned, I remember only "Kadavul Ninaithaan mananaaL koduthaan, vaazhkai undaanathey".


Comedy was CRAP :x :evil: YGM, Venniraadai and the dialogues... appappa !! :oops: :oops: naan chinna vayasula paartha pothu artham therla.. But now ! :shock: :banghead: Antha small scale industry scale joke :oops2: They also involve sivaji in this with chittukuruvi lakiyam comedy :x Oru nalla kathaila ithu oru thani add-on maari :oops: CID Sakunthala and Sarath babu things :|

Overall, nichayam sivaji - saritha performance kaaga paarkalaam...:thumbsup:

In the meanwhile we both wrote a letter to The Hindu which may or may not get Published I am posting it here for your reference.....Maybe more of you should write to them.

We have been following the series "blast from the past" and were more than happy when we saw the still photo of Sivaji Ganesan from the film Rangoon Radha and started reading the synopsis. But the very second paragaraph shocked us. It read

"After the stunning debut in Parasakthi (1952), Sivaji Ganesan did not get many offers as one expected. He acted as villain in few films during the 1950s - Andha Naal, Thirumbi Paar, Thuli Visham and Rangoon Radha."

Here the columnist mentions that Sivaji did not get many offers and hence was reduced to accepting villain roles. This is factually incorrect? The following facts clearly show how far off the writer is from the truth.
Parasakthi release date - 17.10.1952 - 1st Film

Rangoon Radha - release date - 01.11.1956 - 34th film.

Thus Sivaji had done 34 films in a matter of 4 years, which works out to an average of 8/9 films per year. This is something which no other hero had done before. In fact the calender year -1954 saw Sivaji acting in 10 films, which was again a record of sorts for a Tamil film hero.

As for as villain or anti hero roles are concerned, Nadigar Thilagam (as he was fondly known) looked at the charaterisation and scope for performing and not at whether the role had romance, duets, fights etc. Which is why he was always the ACTOR and never a STAR . He never went begging for any chances to anybody in his life time - as right after his debut film which was a super hit he literally never looked back -though "thirumbi Paar" was one of those Villain films.

Hope our feelings are understood . The pain is more acute when a columnist of repute such as Randor guy writes this and a paper of standing "as yours publishes it.We Hope that this is carried in your newspaper.

Murali is doing wonderful job and he deserves all praise. His work is matchless. And your reply to The Hindu is apt. We all thank you on behalf of all the Sivaji Fans. It was NT who brought Randor Guy to limelight through the song Love is Fine Darling in the film Thavappudhalvan. But I have come across (read through media) many occasions that somewhere he does have some kind of misconeption of NT (though he paid tributes to him during NT's demise, in the same Hindu). Your response should invoke in him his concience and make correct his approach to NT. But why the Hindu does not look into these aspects is one question which it should find out the answer.

"இலங்கையில் பிறந்து வளர்ந்த நான் ,விபரம் தெரிந்த நாளிலிருந்து சிவாஜி சாரின் தீவிர ரசிகன் .சிறுவனாக இருக்கும் போதே சிவாஜி சாரின் படங்கள் முதல் நாள் முதல் காட்சி பார்ப்பது என்பது கட்டாயம் .தப்பித்தவறி என்னால் பார்க்க முடியவில்லையென்றால் ,பார்த்து விட்டதாக நண்பர்கள் நினைக்க வேண்டும் என்பதற்காகவே அப்படத்தின் போஸ்டரை பார்த்து நானாக ஒரு கதையை கற்பனை செய்து சொல்லி விடுவேன்.

எனக்கு 14 வயது இருக்கும் போது சிவாஜி சார் கொழும்பு வருகிறார் என கேள்விப்பட்டு எப்படியாவது அவரை பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்று 250 கீமீ தூரத்தில் உள்ள கொழும்புக்கு போக தலைப் பட்டேன் .வழக்கம் போல வீட்டில் அனுமதிக்க வில்லை .ஆனால் சிவாஜி சாரை பார்க்கும் வாய்ப்பை நான் இழக்க விரும்பவில்லை .ஒரே வழி ,வீட்டை விட்டு ஓடுவது தான் .எனவே சிவாஜி சாரை பார்க்க வீட்டை விட்டு ஓடினேன் .பயணச்சீட்டு இல்லாமல் கொழும்பு சென்று சிவாஜி சார் பேசும் இடத்தை அடைந்த போது கூட்டம் கீ.மீ கணக்கில் இருந்தது .மேடையில் சிவாஜி சார் வரும் போது ஏதோ ஒரு சிறிய உருவம் தான் எனக்கு தெரிந்தது .ஆனால் அவர் பேச ஆரம்பித்ததும் அந்த சிம்மக்குரல் என்னை அப்படியே அவர் அருகே கொண்டு போனது .அவர் பேச தொடங்கியதிலிருந்து முடிக்கும் வரை நான் இப்படியே நின்றிருந்தேன் (தலைக்கு மேல் கும்பிட்டவாறு) .

என்னுடைய கடைசி இந்திப்படத்தை நான் சிவாஜி சாருக்கு அர்ப்பணித்தேன் .அதில் "என்னைப் போன்ற எத்தனையோ கலைஞர்களுக்கு தூண்டுகோலாக இருந்த ,இப்போதும் இருக்கின்ற ,வருங்காலத்திலும் இருக்கப்போகின்ற சிவாஜி சாருக்கு சமர்ப்பணம்" என குறிப்பிட்டேன்.

நடிகர் திலகம் இறந்த போது நான் குறிப்பிட்டது இது தான் .."யார் சொன்னது சிவாஜி சார் இறந்து விட்டார் என்று ? அவர் இறக்கவில்லை ..அவருக்கு இறப்பு கிடையாது ..பாரதி போன்ற ,சிவாஜி சார் போன்றவர்களுக்கு இறப்பு கிடையாது "

BTW, y'day watched few scenes of " Color Enhanced " " Mughal - e - Azam " in TV. It was a different experience, but some films need to be left in B&W itself to give that classic feel.

Actually there was neither a competition nor Pesum Padam voluntarily gave this title. One of the fans asked in the question answer section of Pesum Padam, Since Sivaji is the best in acting, why not call him "Nadigar Thilagam". For that the editor replied, Yes it is very apt. He is the thilagam among the actors and your suggestion suits Sivaji Ganesan to be called Nadigar Thilagam. From then on Pesum Padam used to refer Sivaji Ganesan as Nadigar Thilagam, which was carried over in the title cards from then on. So a suggestion from a fan has taken Nadigar Thilagam title to such great heights and I personally thank that Rasigar (He is a Hardcore fan of Nadigar Thilagam). But SS Chandran claims that he wrote to Pesum Padam. I do not know about its merits.

The first Nadagam to be staged before and after the film was Raktha Kanneer.
This was the first Indian film and NT the first Indian actor to get an International (?) Afro asian ( sure) award. ( Maybe Ray got the award earlier from overseas)......100 percent sure that this was the first south indian film to get such an award

You may be right, but I have a fleeting memory of having read somewhere that Raktha Kanneer as a play was not staged for some time after the film's release and subsequently it was revived after a gap. But Kattabomman was continously staged, I was told. But I am not sure and may be what you quote is right.

Joe,

Yes, it is true. In fact I have already written about this gesture in this thread itself. But one correction is, it is not for the loss of Karnan. The returns from Karnan were slow in coming back as B.R.Panthulu had released it directly instead of the traditional distributor set up. So to compensate the high interest rate which was eating into the profits, NT agreed to do Muradan Muthu free of cost. But Panthulu who bacame greedy and wanted to exploit the glamour of MM being announced as the 100th movie (instead of Navarathiri), forgot the goodwill gesture of NT and crossed camps.

ஒரு சின்ன சந்தேகம். எத்தனை காலம்தான் ஏமாற்றுவார் இந்த நாட்டிலே பாடல் டி.எம்.எஸ் பாடி மலைக்கள்ளன் படத்தில் இடம் பெற்றது. என் நினைவு சரியாக இருக்குமானால் மலைக்கள்ளன் படமும் 1954- ம் ஆண்டு தான் வெளிவந்தது (அதாவது தூக்கு தூக்கி வெளி வந்த அதே ஆண்டு). தூக்கு தூக்கி ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம் 26 -ம் தேதி வெளியானது. மலைக்கள்ளன் ரிலீஸ் தேதி தெரியவில்லை.

Now sorry for deviating from the sub. You remember sir, the other day we were discussing about Endhan pon vanname & Thirutheril.. where 2 singers had rendered their voice for NT. In this case both were quite comfortable for NT.

When I was watching Raja, I was surprised to note that SPB had sung " Irandil ondru.....ennai vittu veru yaaru unnai thoduvar ". But here there was a sea of difference between TMS & SPB's voice with regards to NT's looks. Other songs in the same film like Kalyana ponnu, Nee varuvai ena naan kathirundhen etc, suited NT to the T. But, IMO the timbre was missing in SPB's voice and it sounded so tender and sort of naive to me.

I used to get the same feeling while listening to Pottu vaitha mugamo, also.

Sorry for the late response. நடிகர் திலகத்தின் கட்டபொம்மன் சாதனை, நிஜ கட்டபொம்மனின் சாதனையை காட்டிலும் மிக பிரமிக்கதாக உள்ளது.

One question: Did Kattabomman run 189 or 181 days at Madurai New Cinema? I remember I saw a picture frame in New Cinema tea stall celebrating 189 days run of Kattabomman.

Another thing I wonder with Kattabomman: Though GG-Padmini has got a duet song, it is totally an NT show in Kattabomman. It looks like NT is the only hero in tamil cinema history who never cared about duet songs, still delivered a gigantic performance and success.

Some more tidbits about Kattabomman re-run at Madurai Alankar: As Murali mentioned, Kattabomman rerun was hugely successful and never occurred before in Madurai (still wonder if some other actor has beaten this rerun performance in Madurai). A group of fans who lived around Alankar used to go the theater every day evening to see whether the show was full or not. The fans were so wild that they even broke and crushed the ticket counter to get an entry. Additionally, the Kattabomman craze was so huge that the fake tickets were in circulation for this re-released movie.

By next September, we will be celebrating 50th year golden jubilee of Kattabomman release. Though the film is 50 years old, one can still see that NT's performance and the film are so fresh in the minds of fans and general public. This one and only performance has proved that NT is Kattabomman and Kattabomman is NT and thus got an unique entry in tamil film history.

I read somewhere that during Deiva piravi (1960 release as Murali covered) run in Madurai, NT and SSR fans clashed and it ended in கத்திக்குத்து.

Thanks for your comments. About the no of days of Kattabomman, I too had that doubt. But it is your area people [Arasamaram Siavji Groups] who had confirmed that it is 181. If it is indeed 189, nothing like that.

Kattabomman's golden Jublie celebration falls in May 2009 as the date of release is 16.05.1959. A function is being planned for that.

I am hardly a great NT fan compared to the fervency of the participants on this thread. But as a fan of thamizh cinema, Sivaji has had a profound effect on my life. Given below is a brief on how and I offer this as thanks on the 80th birthday of this unmatched thespian.

கோவையில், பட்டுநூல்க்காரர் தெருவில், அதிகாலை பல் தேய்ப்பதற்கு முன்னே பால் கரந்து, பத்து மைல் தள்ளி இருந்த அரசு பள்ளிக்கூடம் வரை நடந்து சென்று தமிழ் மீடியத்தில் பாடம் கற்றவர்கள் எனது வீட்டார். இன்று நான் தானியங்கி பல் துலக்கியால் பல் தேய்த்து, பரவசமாக பாடல் கேட்டுக்கொண்டே எனது சொகுசு வண்டியில் பணிக்குச் சென்று, அங்கே அமெரிக்க ஆங்கிலத்தில் அனாயாசமாக பேசுகின்றேன் என்றால் அதில் அவர்களது பங்கே அதிகம். அவர்களுடன் கருத்து வேறுபாடுகள் இருந்த போதிலும் இதை மறுத்தலாகாது. ஒன்றரை வருடங்கள் முன்பு இதை அறிந்திருந்த போதும் நான் உணர்ந்த பாடில்லை. எனக்கு அதை உணர்த்தியது விழுப்புரம் சின்னையாபிள்ளை கணேசன் என்ற மாநடிகன்.

சிறு வயதில் எனது வீட்டில் பயங்கர கெடுபிடி, சினிமா விஷயத்தில். காரணம் இல்லாமல் இல்லை. சரித்திரப் பாட புத்தகத்தில் விகடனும், குமுதமும் மறைத்து சினிமா துணுக்கும், சிறுகதையும் படித்தவன் தான் நான். இரு இடங்களில் மட்டும் கெடுபிடி தளரும். ஒன்று இசை. எங்கள் வீட்டில் அனைவரும் மெல்லிசை மன்னர்களின் இசைக்கும், கண்ணதாசனின் தமிழுக்கும், சௌந்தரராஜன் மற்றும் ஸ்ரீனிவாசின் கந்தர்வ குரல்களுக்கும் அடிமை. மற்றொன்று காவியப்படங்கள். குறிப்பாக சிவாஜி கணேசன் நடித்த காவியப்படங்களுக்கு தடை தளர்த்தப் படும். கர்ணன் படத்தின் ஓடி ஓடித் தேய்ந்துப் போன பதிவு ஒன்று தான் சிவாஜியுடனான எனது முதல் அறிமுகம். ஆங்கிலத்தில் சொல்வது போல் அதை விட நல்ல அறிமுகம் கிடைத்தல் அரிது. மகாபாரதத்தின் முழுக் கதையையும் அறிந்திருந்த போதிலும், இறுதியில் கணேசன் என் கண்ணில் நீரை வரவழைத்துவிட்டார். அதற்க்குப் பின் அதிகம் முறை பார்த்த படம் திருவிளையாடல்.

எனது பதிமூன்றாவது (சும்மாவா அதை ராசியில்லாத எண் என்கிறார்கள்?) வயதில் கணேசனும் நானும் பாதைகள் பிரிந்தோம். பன்னிரண்டு வருடங்களுக்கு அதிக பேச்சு வார்த்தை இல்லை. அதனால் இழப்பு முழுவதும் எனக்கே என்று நான் உணரவும் இல்லை. எனது இருபத்தி ஐந்தாவது வயதில் நான் மனதளவில் முழுமையான அமெரிக்க-வாசி ஆகிவிட்டேன், காலையில் சவரம் செய்யும் பொழுது கண்ணாடியில் ஒரு இந்தியனை பார்த்து திடுக்கிடும் அளவுக்கு. வீட்டாருடன் நடக்கும் தொலைப்பேசி உரையாடல்கள் பொதுவாக சண்டையில் சென்று முடிந்தன. கணேசனுக்கு யாரோ சொல்லி இருக்க வேண்டும். தற்செயலாக மீண்டும் சந்தித்த பொழுது, அவர் பெரிய தேவர், நான் சக்தி. "ஏய் சக்தி, நான் தேய்ந்" - அசரீரீ போல் ஒரு குரல். "அந்த காட்டு மிராண்டிக் கூட்டத்திலே ங்கோப்பனும் ஒருத்தன் தேய்ந்னு மறந்துடாதே" - எனக்கு ஐந்து வயது இருக்கும்போது மறைந்து போன எனது தந்தையின் உருவம் கொண்டார். "வாழுறது முக்கியம்தேன் இல்லேன்னு சொல்லலே. ஆனா மத்தவங்களுக்கு பயனுள்ள வாழ்க்கையா வாழ்ந்துட்டு செத்து போறது தான் அந்த சாவுக்கே பெருமெ. வெதை வெதைச்சொடனே பழம் சாப்பிடணும்னு நெனைக்க முடியோமா? இன்னைக்கு நான் வெதைக்குறேன், நாளைக்கு நீ பழம் சாப்பிடுவே, அப்பறோம் உன் மகன் சாப்பிடுவான், அதுக்கு அப்பறோம் அவன் மகன் சாப்பிடுவான். இதெல்லாம் என்ன பெருமையா? கடமை, ஒவ்வொருத்தனோட கடமை" - கணவன் இழந்த எனது தாயையும், தகப்பன் இழந்த என்னையும் தாங்கிய எனது மாமாவின் உருவம் கொண்டார். முன்கோபத்துடன் சட்டையை பிடித்து பிறகு கைவிட்ட போது சுள்ளென்று சீற்றம் கொள்ளும் எனது தாயை நினைவூட்டினார். கர்ணனைப் போலவே பெரிய தேவரும் கண்ணீர் துளி பெருக்கினார்.

இந்தக் காட்சி சிவாஜியைத் தவிர எவர் நடித்தாலும், சிறப்பாக அமைவது கடினம். என் சிந்தையை ஆட்கொள்வது அதை விடக் கடினம். எனது பெற்றோரையும் அவரது ஏக்கங்களையும் எனக்குப் புரிய வைத்து, அவர்களை எனக்குத் திருப்பித் தந்ததில் ஒரு பங்கு சிவாஜியைச் சேரும். மேற்கூறிய விஷயங்கள் எதுவும் நான் முன்பே அறிந்திராதவை அல்ல, உணர்ந்திராதவை மட்டுமே. என் அறிவிற்கும் உணர்விற்கும் பாலம் கட்டிய ஆசானாகிய கணேசனின் எண்பதாவது பிறந்த நாள் அன்று என் மனமார்ந்த நன்றியை அவருக்கு தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன்.

Murali, no wonder paava mannippu is a high-grossing audio album. Enna our album. One of my favourite V-R-Sivaji combo. Also, I believe this movie captured Sivaji at his handsomest best. (appodhiya vazhakkapadi, theeyile eriya vachu, Silar Sirppar Azhuvarnu second-half-la kanner pizhiya vechu sodhappitaanga is my feeling but that intro - I cant remember if it was Vandha Naal mudhal or Ellorum Kondaduvom but in either case - simply mesmerising style and I think he had the optimum weight and shape in this movie.)

Aha....what a sight it was...hundreds and hundreds of NT fans in Boag Road,sorry Chevalier Sivaji ganesan Salai.....Annai Illam.All coming in and paying their homage.....The Vellore fans brought 80 plates of "Seervarisai" to be placed in front of his portrait...The Bangalore fans brought an 80 KG Cake that was cut and distributed.
This is happening 7 years post his departure to the heavenly abode.....fans driving hundreds of kilometers AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE !!!!
The phenomenon that these two ( MGR and NT) were is clearly seen in this....I hope that the evening function too will go off well.

[tscii]NT - 80 th BIRTHDAY FUNCTION

DATE : 01.10.2008

VENUE : KALAINGAR ARANGAM, ANNA ARIVAALAYAM, CHENNAI

TIME : 6.30 PM


I have been attending the Birthday functions of NT for the last 3 years. But never have I seen such a huge crowd like the one that thronged the venue today. The Kalaingar Arangam at Anna Arivaalayam wore a festive look adorned by banners and posters on either side of the entrance and throughout the way to the auditorium. In fact the banners, posters and Sivaji Mandra Flags had been put up from Kamarajar Arangam till Arivaalayam. As I mentioned earlier the crowds coming from as far as Nagerkoil, Bangalore, Andhra, Pazhani, Madurai, Vellore had come for the birthday function and even by 5.30 pm, the auditorium was full. The heartening aspect of the crowd was women numbered up to 40% of the crowd. Again youngsters comprised 35- 40% of the crowd.

The stage was decorated with the banner which had NT on the left and Kalaingar on the right. It read நடிகர் திலகத்தின் 80 -வது பிறந்த நாள் விழா, 01.10.2008. Two portraits of NT were placed on either side if the stage. All the dignitaries were seated by 6.15 pm and CM arrived by 6.20 pm and function started by 6.30 pm. By the time the function started the hall and the balcony were over flowing and it looked that an equal number of people were standing. But in spite of knowing that they had to stand, people still were coming in, not to mention a big crowd (without invitations) pleading with the police to allow them in.

Thamizh Thaai vaazhthu was rendered to mark the beginning. One of the MCs of the evening Y.Gee Mahendra came to the mike and announced that Ram Kumar would do the welcome address. The mood of the crowd was evident by the deafening applause one heard when Y.Gee mentioned NT’s name. Ram welcomed everybody in his usual manner making it short and sweet. The next item was honouring the CM and the other speakers and Ram and Prabhu presented shawls and memento to Kalaingar, Sivakumar, Vairamuthu and Post Master General Mrs. Indira Krishnakumar on behalf of the trust. The act was repeated on behalf of Akila Indhiya Sivaji Mandram with its President Bhoominathan doing the honours. The next function was releasing of Postal cover in memory of Travancore sisters. Mohanram came to the mike and he gave a brief background to the whole exercise being done every year by the Sivaji – Prabhu Trust. Mohanram recalled that in the year 2000, when he suggested about the idea of bringing out the postal covers on cine personalities, NT not only responded favourably but also sponsored the entire programme and made an announcement that it would be done on an annual basis. Though he was not there for the next year’s function, Ram and Prabhu have been carrying out the event with the same involvement as NT desired. Mohanram went on to list the names of legends of Tamil cinema in whose memory the postal covers have been brought out and the list included AV.Meiyappan, K.Subramaniam, MKT, PUC, MR.Radha, Chandrababu, Bheemsingh and MK.Radha to name a few. With this recap he said this time the trust has decided to bring out a special postal cover on Travanacore sisters namely Lalitha, Padmini and Raagini. In order to highlight their contribution, clippings from the films in which they acted with NT were shown. It started with Lalitha. A scene from Thooku Thooki was shown. It was Lalitha and NT conversing with each other and crowd was reacting aggressively. For Ragini it was her song sequence in Uthhama Puthiran but since there is no NT in the scene, the reaction was little mild. Next was Padmini and her thillanaa was shown followed by Nalamthaana song. When NT winks his eyes, the crowd went berserk. It was a little disappointment that more clippings were not shown.


Past Master General Indira Krishnakumar released the postal covers and Kalaingar received it. Mohanram asked Lalitha’s daughter Sethu Lakshmi and her son Krishna, Raagini’s daughter Mahalakshmi and actor Vineeth to come to the stage for receiving the postal covers on behalf of Lalitha, Raagini and Padmini respectively. They came to the stage and received the covers. After this the Mrs. Indira spoke. She talked about Postal Department’s initiative in honouring artists and said that the artists are great ambassadors who could bring diverse people into their fold that bodes well for the country. [Sorry could not reproduce her speech in full. Even otherwise it was low in volume. Because of security reasons, the mobile jammer was put in use and this was in a way affecting the performance of the mike].

After this the Sivaji Virudhu vazhangum programme started. The first one to receive was Mellisai Mannar T.K.Ramamurthy. Clippings from Thanga Surangam, the only film TKR had worked for NT was shown. It was Naan Pirandha Nattukku endha Naadu periyadhu song sequence. Seeing NT in a young and charming avatar, the crowd went wild and especially when NT briskly walks down the steps in his usual majestic manner, cheers become louder. Then the clipping for Chachhu was shown. It was the scene from Sumathi En Sundari where NT for the sake of Nagesh bluffs about Nagesh killing the man-eater Tiger and getting caught. Then it was the turn of Aroordas and the clipping was from Deiva Magan showing Kannan coming to meet his Father and handing over the blank cheque [my day was made]. There were claps, whistle and sounds for each and every reaction. K.R.Vijaya was the next and Saraswathy Sabatham scene starting with Deivam Iruppadhu Enge song ending and the subsequent war of words between NT and KRV were shown. Now people started reacting more aggressively and especially when NT retorts [selvakku solvakkai adakkalaama] the cheers were huge. Following this Nallathoru Kudumbam song started and crowd was on their feet. When SP Choudry after singing Annai ennum kadal thandhadhu, started his stylish light dance movements all hell broke loose. The crowd was dancing with deafening sounds. Saroja Devi’s turn came and when people saw Gopal saying please followed by Unnai Ondru ketpen, there was no stopping the fans. Aalayamani starting scene was shown followed by Nadhi Enge Pogirathu from Iruvar Ullam. With the sound so deafening and fans seem to be on a high, police had to move in and take positions along the entire stretch to control the crowd. This brought some control and when Once More was shown, the cheers again started but were within limits. With this clippings came to an end.

All the dignitaries then were called up and presented the Sivaji Virudhu. TKR, Aroordas and Film News Anandan required help to walk and after all the six received the awards, a photo session was arranged for the dignitaries with the CM. With this the first part of the function came to an end. After this the session belonged to special speakers about which I would come back.

நடிகர் திலகத்தின் பிறந்த நாள் விழா நிகழ்ச்சி தொடர்ச்சி.

அடுத்து பேச வந்தவர் மார்கண்டேயன். இவருக்கு மகேந்திரா கொடுத்த முன்னுரை " மோதிர கையால் குட்டுப்பட்டவர்களை தெரியும். ஆனால் இவர் உயர்ந்த மனிதனின் மோதிர கையால் அடி வாங்கியவர் ". சிவகுமார் மைக் முன்னால் வந்தார். விழாவிற்கு தலைமை ஏற்றவரை வாழ்த்தி விட்டு அதிரடியாக "என் தலையின் குடும்பத்தினரே " என்று ஆரம்பித்தார். உரத்த குரலில் "சிவாஜியின் ரத்த துளிகளே" என்ற போது ரத்த துளிகள் எழுப்பிய ஆரவாரம் அறிவாலயத்தை தாண்டி கேட்டிருக்கும். தன்னுடைய பத்தாவது வயதில் பராசக்தி தனக்குள் ஏற்படுத்திய பாதிப்பை பற்றி சொல்ல ஆரம்பித்தார். குறிப்பாக ஒ! ரசிக சீமானே பாடலுக்கு பின் பணத்தை எல்லாம் இழந்து விட்டு மதுரைக்கு போக முடியாமல் சென்னை தெருவிலே நின்று நடிகர் திலகம் பேசும் வசனத்தை அப்படியே பேசி காண்பித்தார். தமிழ் திரையுலகை புரட்டி போட்ட வசனம் அங்கு தான் ஆரம்பித்தது என்றார். அடுத்து மாறன் வசனம் எழுதிய அன்னையின் ஆணை திரைப்படத்தில் சாம்ராட் அசோகன் வசனம் அதே ஏற்ற இறக்கங்களோடு வந்தன. பிறகு கட்டபொம்மன் நாடகம் 99 வது முறையாக நடத்தப்பட்ட போது நடிகர் திலகத்தின் தொண்டையில் ரத்த நாளம் வெடித்து பேசும் போது ரத்தம் வந்தது, டாக்டர் சொன்னதையும் மீறி மறு நாளும் நடிகர் திலகம் நடிக்க போனதை பற்றியும் நினவு கூர்ந்த சிவகுமார் கட்டபொம்மனின் இறுதி காட்சி வசனத்தையும் பேசி காட்ட மறக்கவில்லை. கலைஞரின் எழுத்து வன்மையை புகழ்ந்த அவர் எப்படி பராசக்தியின் கோர்ட் சீன் வசனம் எப்படி முழு கதையையும் சொல்லி விடுகிறது என்பதை மொத்த வசனத்தையும் பேசி காண்பித்தே விளக்கினார். சினிமாவே அதிகம் பார்க்காத பெரியார், ராஜாஜி போன்றவர்கள் எப்படி நடிகர் திலகத்தை பாராட்டினார்கள் என்பதையும் நினைவூட்டினார். சம்பூர்ண ராமயணத்தில் கதை நாயகனாக இல்லாவிடினும் எப்படி நடிகர் திலகம் பெயர் பெற்றார் என்பத்தை சொல்லும்போது இப்போதைய தன்னுடைய விருப்ப விஷயமான கம்ப ராமயணத்தில் பரதன் கைகேயிடம் கோவித்து கொள்ளும் இடத்தில் வரும் செய்யுளை சொல்லிவிட்டு படத்தில் நடிகர் திலகம் கைகேயியாக நடித்த ஜி. வரலக்ஷ்மியிடம் பேசும் வசனத்தையும் சொன்னார். இதையெல்லாம் சொல்லி விட்டு தான் அவரோடு நடித்த சரஸ்வதி சபதம் படத்தில் நாரதராக வந்த போது நடிகர் திலகம் பேசிய முறை எப்படி மாறியிருந்தது என்பதையும் குறிப்பிட்டார். அதிலும் " நாராயண, மாதவா, கேசவா, ஸ்ரீதரா, மதுசூதனா, த்ரிவிக்ரமா, வாமனா, ரிஷிகேஷா, பத்மநாபா, தாமோதரா, உன் பொற்பாத கமலங்களுக்கு என் பணிவான வணக்கம்" என்று ஸாப்டாக நடிகர் திலகம் மகா விஷ்ணுவாக நடித்த தன்னிடம் வசனம் பேசிய போது, தன்னிலை மறந்து நின்றதை அவர் அழகாக குறிப்பிட்ட போது அரங்கம் அதிர்ந்தது. இறுதியாக செவாலியே விருது நிகழ்ச்சியில் தான் பேசிய அதே பேச்சை மீண்டும் பேசிவிட்டு உரையை முடித்தார். சிவகுமாரை பொருத்த வரை அவரது நினைவாற்றலும் வசனங்களை அப்படியே பேசும் திறனும் அனைவரும் அறிந்தது தான் என்றாலும் அது மீண்டும் ஒரு முறை வெளிப்பட்டது. அதே நேரத்தில் பட வசனங்களை குறைத்து நடிகர் திலகத்துடன் இணைந்து நடிக்கும் போது நடந்த சுவையான நிகழ்வுகளை எடுத்து கூறியிருந்தால் இன்னும் சிறப்பாக இருந்திருக்கும்.

அடுத்து வந்தவர் கவிப்பேரரசு. இவரை அழைக்கும் போது மகேந்திரா, கவிராஜன் கதையில் வரும் "அது எப்படி எட்டயபுரத்தில் ஒரு தாயின் கர்ப்ப பை மட்டும் நெருப்பை சுமந்தது " என்ற வரியை குறிப்பிட்டார். வழக்கம் போல் தன் தமிழ் ஆசானுக்கு நன்றி சொல்லி விட்டு தொடங்கினார் கவிஞர். "சிவாஜிக்கு கிடைத்த பாராட்டுக்களிலே உச்சம் எது என்று யோசித்தேன். லதா மங்கேஷ்கருக்கு கிடைத்த உச்ச கட்ட பாராட்டு, அவர் பாடி முடித்ததும் மைக்கை கவிழ்த்தால் தேன் சொட்டும் என்ற பாராட்டு. கார்ல் மார்க்ஸ் பற்றிய உச்சகட்ட பாராட்டு அவரது எழுத்துக்களை படித்தால் எப்போதும் அவர் சிந்தித்து கொண்டேயிருந்திருப்பார் என்று தோன்றுகிறது என்று சொன்ன ஏங்கல்ஸின் வார்த்தைகள். அது போல தொலைக்காட்சியில் ஒரு சிவாஜி படம் ஓடி கொண்டிருக்கிறது. பார்த்து கொண்டிருந்தவர் மூன்று மீட்டர் தூரம் இருந்த அந்த டி.வி. பெட்டிகருகே போய் அந்த நிழலுருவத்தின் முகத்தை தடவி விட்டு நீதான்யா உலக பெரு நடிகன் என்று சொன்னாரே அந்த பாராட்டு, அந்த நண்பனின், கலைஞரின் பாராட்டு தான் உச்சகட்ட பாராட்டு" என்று கவிஞர் சொன்னபோது அரங்கம் அதிர்ந்தது. அடுத்து பராசக்தி படத்தில் வரும் பாடலை எடுத்துக் கொண்ட கவிஞர் அதில் வரும் "காரியத்தில் கண்ணாயிருந்தாலும் தாண்டவகோனே காசு பையில் கண் வைய்யடா தாண்டவகோனே" வரியின் போது நடிகர் திலகம் நான்கு முறை ஆலாபனை செய்யும் போது அங்கு வரும் நாடக குழுவிடம் அவர் நடத்தும் ஒரு விளையாட்டை அழகாக குறிப்பிட்டார். பராசக்தியில் அவரிடம் தெரிந்த முதிர்ச்சிக்கு அதற்கு முன் அவர் கண்ட 3000 மேடைகள், நாடக உலகில் அவர் செலவழித்த பதினேழு வருடங்கள் தான் காரணம் என்றார். அதற்கு அவர் கொடுத்த விலைகளை பற்றியும் வைரமுத்து குறிப்பிட தவறவில்லை. நான்கு வருடங்கள் வீட்டிற்கு வராமல் இருந்து விட்டு, பிறகு வந்த போது தன் அண்ணன்கள் இரண்டு பேர் இறந்து போன செய்தியை தெரிந்து கொண்டது, கையில் காசில்லாத காரணத்தால் பாலக்காட்டிற்கு பக்கத்தில் இருக்கும் கொல்லன்கோடிலிருந்து பொள்ளாச்சி வரை ஒரு இரவு கொட்டும் மழையில் நடந்து வந்தது போன்றவற்றை கவிஞர் நினைவு கூர்ந்தார். நடிகர் திலகத்தின் சிறப்புகளில் ஒன்றை விஞ்ஞான உண்மையோடு ஒப்பிட்டார் கவிஞர். பிறக்கும் போது இருப்பதை விட ஒரு மனிதனின் எல்லா உறுப்புகளும் வளரும். ஆனால் வளராமல் பிறக்கும் போதே முழுமையாக இருப்பது ஒரு மனிதனின் கண் மட்டும் தான் என்று குறிப்பிட்ட கவிஞர் அந்த கண்களை மூன்று மில்லிமீட்டரிலிருந்து மூன்று மீட்டர் வரை திரையில் காண்பிக்க கூடியவர் நடிகர் திலகம் மட்டும் தான் என்றார். அந்த கண்கள் மூலமாக அவர் சொன்ன கதைகள் ஏராளம் என்றார். நடிகர் திலகத்தின் உடல் உறுப்புகள் மட்டுமல்ல அவற்றில் அணிந்திருக்கும் நகைகளும் நடிக்கும் என்று சொன்ன கவிஞர் அதற்கு எடுத்துக்கொண்ட உதாரணம் வணங்காமுடி. அதில் நடிகர் திலகம் அணிந்திருந்த குண்டலம் கூட நடித்தது என்றார். வணங்காமுடியில் நகை நடித்தது, திருவிளையாடல் திரைப்படத்தில் ருத்ரதாண்டவம் ஆடிய போது சிகை நடித்தது, புதிய பறவை படத்தில் பியானோ வாசித்து விட்டு சிகரெட்டை ஊதுவார், அப்போது அந்த புகை நடித்தது என்ற போது எழுந்த ஆரவாரம் அடங்க வெகு நேரமாயிற்று.

நடிகர் திலகத்தின் நகைசுவை உணர்வு பற்றி குறிப்பிட்ட கவிஞர் இரண்டு சம்பவங்களை நினைவு கூர்ந்தார். ஒன்று முதல் மரியாதை படத்தில் நடிக்கும் போது வாய்ப்பு கேட்டு வந்த ஒருவரிடம் நடிகர் திலகம் அடித்த கமெண்ட் "ஏம்பா உங்க ஊரிலே கண்ணாடியெல்லாம் கிடையாதா இல்லை கண்ணாடி விக்கிற வழக்கமில்லையா" . அது போல வைரமுத்து தன் மகன்கள் இருவரையும் கூட்டி கொண்டு போயிருக்கிறார். மூத்தவன் மதன் கார்க்கி நடிகர் திலகத்திடம் தான் கட்டபொம்மன் பார்த்து அழுது விட்டதாக கூற உடனே நடிகர் திலகத்தின் கமெண்ட் "ஏம்பா நான் கொஞ்சம் சுமாரா நடிப்பேன். ஆனால் நீ அழற அளவுக்கு மோசமாவா நடிச்சிருந்தேன்?" .

நடிகர் திலகத்தின் நடிப்பு எப்படி ஒருவரை பாதிக்கும் என்பதற்கு முதல் மரியாதை பார்த்து விட்டு சுத்த சைவமான நான் மீன் சாப்பிட வேண்டும் போலிருக்கிறது என்று சொன்ன ஒரு நடிகரை எனக்கு தெரியும் என்றார் கவிஞர். (இதை சொல்லும்போது மகேந்திராவை பார்த்துக் கொண்டே சொன்னார்).

அது போல் நடிகர் திலகம் எப்படி எதிர்ப்பிலேயே வளர்ந்தார் என்பதற்கும் ஒரு சம்பவத்தை சொன்னார். ஒரு உரக் கம்பெனியின் விழாவிற்கு நடிகர் திலகத்தை அழைத்திருந்தார்களாம். அங்கே பேசும் போது நடிகர் திலகம் சொன்னாராம் "என்னை ஏன் அழைத்தீர்கள் என்று புரியவில்லை. ஒரு வேளை தமிழ் நாட்டிலேயே மிக அதிகமாக சாணி அடிக்கப்பட்ட போஸ்டர்கள் என் முகத்தை தாங்கி வந்தவைதான் என்பதால் அழைத்தீர்கள் என நினைக்கிறேன்" என்றாராம்.

பிறகு ஒரு சோக சூழலை பற்றி சொல்ல போகிறேன் என்று ஆரம்பித்த கவிஞர் நடிகர் திலகம் மறைந்த பிறகு அவரது பூத உடல் பெசன்ட் நகர் மின் மயானத்தில் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த போது கடைசியாக தனி அறையில் தானும் பிரபுவும் சத்யராஜும் மட்டும் இருந்த அந்த கடைசி நேரத்தை நினைவு கூர்ந்த போது அரங்கத்தில் ஆழ்ந்த அமைதி. கவிஞர் முகத்தை மூடியிருக்கும் துணியை விலக்கி பார்க்கிறார். "ஒரு மனிதன் இறந்து போகும் போது நான்கு பேர் இறந்து போகிறார்கள். ஒரு கணவன் இறந்து போகிறான், ஒரு தகப்பன் இறந்து போகிறான், ஒரு மாமன் இறந்து போகிறான், ஒரு மைத்துனன் இறந்து போகிறான். ஆனால் இந்த மகா கலைஞன் அங்கே கிடந்த போது சாக்ரடீஸ் இறந்து கிடப்பதை பார்த்தேன், சேரன் செங்குட்டுவன் இறந்து கிடப்பதை பார்த்தேன், கட்டபொம்மன் இறந்து கிடப்பதை பார்த்தேன், கப்பலோட்டிய தமிழன் இறந்து கிடப்பதை பார்த்தேன், அப்பர் இறந்து கிடப்பதை பார்த்தேன், ராஜ ராஜ சோழன் இறந்து கிடப்பதை பார்த்தேன், ஆக ஒரு எழுபது வருட மனித வாழ்க்கையில் மூவாயிரம் ஆண்டு வாழ்ந்த ஒரே நடிகன் நடிகர் திலகம் மட்டுமே" என்ற போது சோகமும் சந்தோஷமும் ஒரு சேர கொப்பளிக்க அரங்கமே அதில் அமிழ்ந்தது.

"நடிகர் திலகம் மறையவில்லை. அவர் நம்மிடையே வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார் என்பதற்கு ஏழு ஆண்டுகள் கடந்தும் இங்கே எழும் கைதட்டல் சாட்சி. இந்த ஆரவாரம் சாட்சி. இந்த விசில் சாட்சி. இந்த எழுச்சி சாட்சி. அவர் என்றும் வாழ்வார்" என்று கவிஞர் முடித்த போது அரங்கமே ஆர்ப்பரித்தது.

அனைவருக்கும் வணக்கம் என்று ஆரம்பித்த பிரபு இந்த விழாவிற்காக கலைஞரை அழைக்க சென்ற போது உடனே வருகிறேன் என்று சொன்னதோடு மட்டுமல்லாமல் அந்த தேதியில் வேறு எந்த நிகழ்ச்சிக்கும் ஒப்பு கொள்ள வேண்டாம் என்று கலைஞர் தன் உதவியாளர் சண்முகநாதனிடம் சொன்னதை குறிப்பிட்ட பிரபு, விழா காமராஜர் அரங்கிலா என்று கலைஞர் கேட்டதையும் அறிவாலயத்தில் இருந்தால் வருவீர்களா என்று வினவியதையும் ஏன் இப்படி கேட்கிறீர்கள் என்று கேட்ட போது உங்களுக்கு பிடிக்காத இடம் ஆயிற்றே என்று கலைஞர் சொன்னதையும் குறிப்பிட்ட பிரபு நாங்கள் நன்றி மறக்காதவர்கள். எங்களுக்கு பிடிக்காத இடமாக இருந்ததாலும் எல்லா எதிர்ப்புகளையும் முறியடித்து எங்கள் தெய்வதிற்கு சிலை வைத்தீர்கள். அதை என்றும் மறக்க மாட்டோம் என்ற பிரபு கூட்டத்தினரை பார்த்து தம்பிகளா அடிங்கடா என்று சொல்ல அரங்கமே ஆர்பரித்தது. பிறகு திருவிதாங்கூர் சகோதரிகள் குடும்பதினருக்கும், சிவாஜி விருது பெற்ற கலைஞர்களுக்கும், சிவகுமார் மற்றும் வைரமுத்துவிற்கும் நன்றி சொன்ன பிரபு ரசிகர்கள் பக்கம் திரும்பி " எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் மேலாக எந்த பலனும் எதிர்பார்க்காமல் அப்பா மீதும் எங்கள் மீதும் நீங்கள் வைத்திருக்கும் அன்பும் பாசமும் இருக்கிறதே அதற்கு நாங்கள் என்ன கைம்மாறு செய்ய போகிறோம், எப்படி நன்றி சொல்ல போகிறோம்" என்று உணர்ச்சி வசப்பட்ட பிரபு " நீங்கள் இருக்கும் தைரியத்தில் தான் எங்கள் குடும்பமே வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது" என்று சொல்லி விட்டு முதல்வரை பேச அழைத்தார்.

சாதரணமாக கலைஞர் பேசினால் உடன் பிறப்பே என்று சொல்லும் போது அதிக கைத்தட்டல் விழுவது வழக்கம். ஆனால் இன்று சிவாஜி ரசிகர் மன்ற பெரு மக்களே என்ற போது தான் அதிக கைதட்டல். இவ்வளவு வருடங்களுக்கு பிறகும் தன்னுடைய நகைச்சுவை உணர்வும் கவுண்டர் அட்டாக் செய்யும் திறனும் குறைந்து விடவில்லை என்பதை நிரூபித்தார். பிரபு பேசும் போது அடிங்கடா என்று சொன்னதை குறிப்பிட்ட கலைஞர் யாரை அடிக்க சொல்கிறார் என்று பார்த்ததாகவும் பிறகுதான் இரண்டு கைகளையும் சேர்த்து அடிக்க சொல்கிறார் என்று புரிந்ததாகவும் சொன்ன போது சிரிப்பலை. பல்வேறு படங்கள் திரையிடப்பட்ட போது அவை எந்த எந்த படங்களிருந்து எடுக்கப்பட்டவை என்பதை பிரபு சொல்லிக் கொண்டிருந்தாகவும் வேண்டாம் எனக்கே தெரியும். நான் பார்க்காத சிவாஜி படமா என்று கலைஞர் சொன்ன போது அரங்கில் ஆரவாரம். சந்தர்ப்பம் கிடைத்த போது தன் அரசியல் எதிரியை குத்திக்காட்டவும் அவர் தவறவில்லை. சிவாஜிக்கு எப்படி அந்த பெயர் வந்தது என்பதை விளக்கிய அவர் முதலில் ஒரு பெரிய நடிகர் நடிப்பதாக இருந்தது. ஆனால் அவரை சிலர் பயமுறுத்தியதால் விலகி விட்டார் என்றும் அவருக்கு பிறகு அந்த வேடத்தை ஏற்று நடித்தவர் வி.சி.கணேசன், அதை பார்த்து விட்டு பெரியார் அவருக்கு சிவாஜி என்ற பட்டதை வழங்க கணேசன் சிவாஜி கணேசன் ஆனார் என்று சொன்னார்.

தொடர்ந்து முதல்வர் சிவாஜியும் தானும் ஒரே இலையில் சாப்பிட்டது, சான்ஸ் தேடி அலைந்தது, இயக்க நிதிக்காக நாடங்கள் நடத்தியது இவற்றையெல்லாம் நினைவு கூர்ந்தார். 1952 - ம் வருடத்தில் சுவாமி மலையில் நடை பெற்ற சிவாஜியின் திருமணத்திற்கு தான் தான் மாப்பிள்ளை தோழனாக இருந்ததை வெளிப்படுத்தினார். அண்ணாவிற்கும் நடிகர் திலகத்திற்கும் இருந்த உறவை குறிப்பிட்ட முதல்வர் அண்ணா சொல்படி 1950-களில் புயல் வெள்ள நிவாரண நிதிக்காக தானும் சிவாஜியும் கலை நிகழ்ச்சிகள் நடத்த சென்றதையும் நாடகம் நடத்தியவர்கள் பணத்தை எடுத்து கொண்டு ஓடிவிட தாங்கள் நிர்கதியாக நின்றதையும் பிறகு மோதிரத்தை விற்று குழவினரை சென்னைக்கு அனுப்பி வைத்ததையும் சொன்னார். ஆனால் ஒரு சில சுயநலவாதிகள் சிவாஜியை கட்சியிலிருந்து வெளியேற்றினார்கள் என்றும் ஆனால் தன் இதயத்திலிருந்து வெளியேற்ற அவர்களால் முடியவில்லை என்றார். அண்ணா அதனால் தான் கட்டபொம்மன் நாடகத்திற்கு சென்று விட்டு மேடையேறி எங்கிருந்தாலும் வாழ்க என்று வாழ்தியதையும், மார்லன் பிராண்டோவை விட சிறந்த நடிகர் சிவாஜி என்றும் குறிப்பிட்டதையும் சொன்னார்.

எத்தனை எதிர்ப்புகள் வந்த போதும் அதை முறியடித்து சிலை நிறுவியதை முதல்வர் குறிப்பிட்ட போது அரங்கம் அதை ஆமோதிக்கும் விதமாக ஆரவாரம் செய்தது. ராம்குமார் மற்றும் பிரபு பற்றி குறிப்பிட்ட முதல்வர் இவர்களை பெற சிவாஜி தவம் செய்திருக்க வேண்டும் என்று சொன்னார். மகன் தந்தைக்காற்றும் உதவியை செய்யும் இவர்களை வாழ்த்துகிறேன் என்று உரையை முடிக்க முயன்ற போது ரசிகர்கள் மத்தியிலிருந்து மணி மண்டபம் மணி மண்டபம் என்று குரல் எழுந்தது. ஆனால் அதை பற்றி ஒன்றும் குறிப்பிடாமல் முதல்வர் உரையை முடித்து விட்டார்.

நாட்டுப்பண் இசைக்கப்பட விழா இனிதே நிறைவுற்றது.

இரண்டு விஷயங்கள் தெளிவாக வெளிப்பட்டன.

ரசிகர்களில் பெரும்பாலானோர் மணி மண்டபம் இன்னும் அமைக்கப்படாததில் கோபம்/வருத்தம் அடைந்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

நடிகர் திலகத்திற்கு இப்போதும் இருக்கும் ரசிகர்கள் அவர்களது ஆர்வம் பலருக்கும் புதிய செய்தியாக இருந்தது. குறிப்பாக மேடையில் அமர்ந்தவர்கள் (இதில் முதல்வரும் அடங்கும்). அதை வைரமுத்து போன்றவர்கள் வெளிப்படையாக சொன்னார்கள். அங்கே வந்திருந்த அமைச்சர்கள் சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் மற்றும் கட்சிக்காரர்களுக்கு ஒரே ஆச்சரியம். பொது மக்களாக வந்திருந்தவர்களும் இதை ஆச்சரியத்துடன் பார்த்தார்கள்.

I recently came across an alternative reading to the famous "You too Brutus".

It is usually seen to mean a gasp of disbelief "You too have ganged up with them to plot against me ?" (எலே பாண்டி, நீயுமா லே !)

But another take is: You too shall die Brutus. You to shall perish with goals unachieved, dreams shattered, realising that you are also a mere mortal who can't change the fate of Rome/world.

Just watch out for Sivaji's pronunciation. It will lack the modulation to befit the first interpretation. I have always wondered why. We can surely dismiss that he couldn't bring out the pain of betrayal in that line. Every actor worth his salt who has played Caesar did it.

I am damn sure Sivaji was aware of the other (or any other) interpretation of the words also. Thus the studied, heavy delivery of that line. No accusatory tone, no pang of betrayal but just a profound statement of a man in his last moment.

And of course the epiliptic fit before he dies is the stuff of legend. Sivaji had done some background work on Caesar and worked that into the scene. And if I am not wrong, he surprised everyone on the sets by doing it directly in the take.

more than 90 percent of the statues are from our tax money.....the government also allots acres of land for "mandapams"...why? If we start asking this ,then there will be no end....someone will say why a samaadhi for Anna and MGR why one for gandhi and Nehru in delhi and X and Y and Z...I am happy that he did it. And I am aware of the people who in the name of environment,mahatma gandhi,traffic hazard etc wanted to stifle all efforts by the man...I hold no candle for him...nor am I a party member.....Just an NT Fan.
By your Logic the Govt pitting up Statues for all these greats must bring down (kuraiththu madhippidudhal) their achievements and contribution.....Privately funding such things is defenitely a lesser achievement than the Govt spending and putting it up...You may ask is it needed????

I get a feeling that you skimmed the post. I am not against a statue for Sivaji. I am all for it!

I am just incensed by the reasons of Kalaignar - Instead of saying that he, as the leader of the govt, raised/wants to raise a statue, manimandapam, museum, etc. for a great actor, for somebody who is part of the Tamil psyche, he repeatedly says that he felt it was his duty to raise a statue for his friend. Friend? Is that the major identity of Sivaji? If the primary reason for the statue is that Sivaji is a friend of Kalaignar, I say let us demolish that statue!

This forum seems to full of hard-core Sivaji fans. (I like Sivaji, but I am not a hard-core fan.) How do you people tolerate such an attempt to restrict the greatness of Sivaji into such a small circle?

I did not skim through your posting my friend, indeed, went to your blog and read the full version too...which is why I have mentioned the part of socio political economics.....if the politician in the CM wants to encash on his friendship let him have his kicks. My feeling is that the Government must do it at their expense.....the Pondicherry Govt did itfirst for Sivaji ( JJ announced a grant of few grounds for a manimandapam)....the Andhra Pradesh Govt did it for M.S.Subbulakshmi and I am happy they did so...anyway as you say it is a point of view....The CM's, yours and mine.
Indeed as I post it.....I get the news that a Lorry has banged into the Statue.....hope it is not true or too bad.

we must check if it was NT who gave the voice.....I recall that for an english piece he asked a famous english professor...noted for shakespearean mono acting to lend his voice.......

The Shakespeare professor's name is Sundaram. (Mr. Raghavendran mentioned this some time back). He lent his voice to the "to be or not to be" Hamlet soliloquy in Rajapart Rangadurai. Quite disappointing not to hear that in Sivaji's voice. It would have been grand.

But in Caesar I think it was Sivaji himself. More informed hubbers like Mr.MuraLi can confirm.


Incidentally he told me that he saw the epileptic kicking and dying in Richard III - Lawrence Olivier...... Oh, is it.
Please do post more about artists Sivaji admired. That is something I I'd like to know more about.

Yes Sir. I personally visited the spot. A lorry while negotiating the turn from Radhakrishnan Salai towards Kamaraj Salai had hit the fencing made of Iron grills and one or two small pieces of grill had broken. No damage done to either statue or the podium. Sun News had needlessly created a tension.

As you say being the friend of Sivaji is a honour to Kalaignar. To say that just Sivaji is a friend, he raised the statue - this version remains and it is difficult to interpret in its intended version. Whether Sivaji is a friend of Kalaignar or not, his statue should be erected at any cost. That's what you come to say I believe and I too fully agree to it. At the same time, we should not forget how much mental turmoil Kalaignar faced for doing it. And as a true Sivaji Fan we should sincerely appreciate his tough stand for completing the task. That's what every body here means and that's why we appreciate Kalaignar. Kalaignar rightly argued at the function, and asked Adhu enna vaikkakkoodaadha silaiya? And had the objections come from the opposition camp of NT, it would have been understandable. But the objection came from the so-called Gandhians/ congressmen. Both in principle and biographically NT is close to Kamaraj and Gandhi. His birth day falls one day before Gandhi. His death anniversary comes in the same week of the birth day of Kamaraj. This is biographical. We know how a true follower of Gandhi and Kamaraj NT is. That's why Kalaignar rightly pointed out and he aptly chose the place.
If you take it in this perspective, you might become more clear of the situation.

இப்படியும் சொல்லலாமே..!. நடிகர்திலகம் இந்திய அரசுக்கு கோடிக்கணக்கில் வருமான வரி செலுத்தியிருக்கிறார். அதிலிருந்து இந்த சிலைக்கான செலவைக் கழித்துக்கொள்ளலாமே. வருமான வரியே செலுத்தாத திருவள்ளுவருக்கெல்லாம் முன்னூறு அடி சிலை வைக்கும்போது வரி செலுத்திய ஒரு மாபெரும் கலைஞனுக்கு சிலை வைக்கும்போது மட்டும் 'எங்கள் வரிப்பணம்' என்ற வார்த்தை எதற்கு..?. அது அவர் செலுத்திய வரிப்பணத்தில் வைத்த சிலையாக இருக்கட்டுமே
