Tamil cinema has been going through a vivid change of trend with films of new innovative dimensions making their way on the screen. These set of films don’t have songs, unnecessary comedy tracks and other commercial elements, but just with a precise story and powerfully crafted screenplay. Of course, Akku can be grouped under this category of trendsetting flicks. This 90mins film has no songs, comedy tracks and glowering sequences.

Produced by On Life Network, Akku revolves around the conflict between love, life and death. The film opens with young lovers Siva (Ajay) and Bhanu (Sriji) eloping to get married. It’s all a night they spend together as Bhanu’s brother (Rakshai), a terrorist indeed get them alienated. With an attempt to devastate both Siva and City, he sets a bomb inside Siva’s shoes. Now the poor fellow has to keep running and if he halts down, the bomb would explode. Bhanu too is a victim for she is estranged into a dark room.

Right before the dawn, Siva starts running with no preferred destination and sooner group of cops led by assistant commissioner of police (Riyaaz Khan), Bomb squad officer (Anu Haasan) and a group of doctors accompany him with an attempt to save him.

Looks like Director Maamani was inspired by Hollywood movie Cellular and Speed. Fine! That isn’t a great deal here and he must be appreciated for his narration of script. Although the film has a wide lot of flaws, you don’t tend to notice because fast moving screenplay. The most flimsy part in the movie is that how can a person run continuously for 24 hours? It looks more odd and puzzled. It could have been just a scenario from dawn till dusk.

As Shiva keeps running, the media is right on its foot of getting this news directly with a live telecast to the masses. On the other hand, terrorists are not far behind the tracks of Shiva to gun him down. How police and doctors extend their feat in saving his life forms crux of the story.

Role of Raakshay is not just over with his performance in a negative role; his stupendous works in EFX steals the show. Director Mamani proves of his intelligence in not just focusing on the protagonist, for a parallel storyline of how Bhanu is saved by cops are well crafted.

The most blatant flaws in the movie are the way policemen are depicted with their working style at risky spots. Usually, a term (Back Up) is usually followed by cops when they are at risky spots: that is if couple of cops are moving towards a particular direction, the other companions should keep themselves walking reversed by turning to other side. But this is completely missing in all the scenes.

And IT professional calling a nun as madam looks odd. Well, along this hard enduring journey, we have eyes of entire policemen, doctors, media and public turned towards Siva, but none of them are seen in tensed moods. Doctors encouraging Shiva to keep running looks as though he is taking part in a running race. There is no sweat, tensing looks or serious emotions in them.

Misconception of steroids by Doctors is not acceptable. Steroids has its side effects on a person when its continuously taken. Over here, we see doctors saying that injecting steroids into Shiva will have a side effect. Even if it has a side effect, it doesn’t cost more worthy than his life.

If Mamani, his crew of associate and assistant directors had an eye on this, they could have presented this film with more perfection.

Background scoring by Sriram works good for the film, especially in the initial 20 minutes where you don’t see dialogues and only actions. Chitti Babu’s cinematography works a lot of best for the film.

As a whole, though filled with some defects, creative script and good narration moves audiences to edge of their seats, making them feel its worth watching for 90mins.

Bottom - Line : Bold and the beautiful

Verdict: Watch it for different experience…
