Special Correspondent
CUDDALORE: Sun TV channels went off the air from Friday morning in both Cuddalore and Villupuram districts, as there is a widespread resentment among the cable television operators over the proposal of the former to offer “free” direct-to-home discs. The cable TV operators claim that the advertisement appeared in the dailies in this regard is misleading.
Besides, the monthly fees of Rs. 75 for limited number of channels the subscribers would have to pay Rs. 25 extra for viewing their favourite channels. They would also have to shell out Rs. 50 towards tax. It has been stated in fine print that the subscribers would be charged installation charges, and the orders would be cancelled without any prior notice.
The operators are also apprehensive that once the DTH concepts picks up they would be thrown out of business, and hence, the concerted efforts to boycott the Sun TV bouquet of channels. Until doubts are cleared, the service providers would not air the Sun TV programmes, the sources added.[/tscii:7f8a99ed1f]
