Surgery for ganglion is a simple OP treatment. Done for cosmetic purpose only since ganglion is harmless! I have an unsung saga of ganglion treatment I happen to personally- a much ado about nothing!!! :shock: :twisted:

Well, in the case I referred to, it was cosmetic, & the plastic surgeon who was consulted ( a busy, skilled doctor dedicated to repairing features of people caught in gruesome accidents) commented jovially about the vanity of teenage girls.
Kajan, the description in the about the scenario was very truthful & touching.

i don't know the exact details of your experience. but i can very well relate to what you may be trying to say. many a time, more than the event/incldent/procedure what's more frightening and uncomfortable is the preparation towards the same, the feelings around it, attitude of people around, communication and the recovery, and support for all this.
Unfortunately some of this is driven by financial and political terms, and so there is inadequacy and displeasure. Most of this can be overwritten by adequate two-way communication and that is very often the case when complaints are analysed. Again the problem here often is due lack of time and resources, and lack of right attitude on both ends in terms of expectations and targets. I know I'm being diplomatic here.
Hope everything went well eventually with you. Sometimes surgeons aren't good communicators. But I would rather be dealt by someone who is good in his skills and knowledge, rather than his words. More and more emphasis is given on the later aspects these days and public expectation reflect the same, and no more they are ready to believe the professional (whatever profession it is) and are becoming inquisitive and demanding on the additional elements of the service and are not satisfied with just the quality of the product delivered. I'm not saying which is right and which is wrong, but there certainly needs to be a balance.
It looks like I just felt like talking a lot today.

Infact we discussed various versions, including Amudha, Amizhdha, Amirdha, Amrita and Amruta.. eventually decided to stick to Tamil version. Had to persuade my wife a bit - what sounds modern to us, may not necessarily be modern in other languages.

Many friends (especially people who speak other languages - Telugu, Punjabi, Rumania and English) acknowledged that it's a sweet name.

நெடுநாள் விடுப்பு எடுக்கும்போது வியர்வை மறந்து பூக்களை மணக்க - pardon the pun - மட்டுமே வாழ்க்கை என்ற தோற்றம் வருவதுண்டு. என்ன செய்துகொண்டிருக்கிறேன் ? சியரா லியோனில் நோஞ்சான் சிறார்களுக்கு ஆங்கிலப்பாடம் நடத்துவது, கேஸ்பியன் கடற்கரையில் ஓவியனாகவோ, பெலொருஸ்ஸில் ரொட்டிக்கு மாவு பிசைபவனாகவோ ஆவது எப்போது (இரண்டுமே தெரியாது என்றாலும்) என்பதெல்லாம் உத்வேகம் இல்லாத passing fancies. நிலையானவை அல்ல. ஒரு சமநிலைக்குரல் அவசரமாக சொல்கிறது. ஒதுக்கித் தள்ளி ஒழுங்குபடுத்த முயல்கிறேன் (றோம்?) . இது passing என்றால் எது நிலையாம் ?

கற்கும்/செய்யும் ஆசையை சற்று நோண்டினால் கற்பது/செய்வதை விட கற்றிருக்க வேண்டும்/செய்திருக்க வேண்டும் என்ற அகந்தைவீக்க ஏக்கங்கள் தெரியும். "எதையும் நிரூபிக்காமல் சற்று சும்மா இருங்கள்" என்ற கவிஞர் ஆத்மாநாமின் வரி ஓங்கித் ஒலிக்கிறது. அவர் இருத்தலும், அதைவிட பிரபலமான அவர் மரணமும் எதை நிரூபித்தன ? அல்லது நிரூபண பிரயாசைகளுடன் மன்றாடிய அலுப்பு தான் உந்துதலா.

i happened to read the hindu seasonal in october 08, when i was chilling in a houseboat with my family in kerala (note: i'm not a great reader.. like many of you.. i always like to be spoonfed. i had to do nothing but reading in the houseboat, as there was no TV there. sometimes.. i wish i get in to such circumstances where I couldn't do anything but reading. atleast then i shall be able to make quotes like you).
anyway, there was an article in that issue on pleasant life, good life and meaningful life.. which i really enjoyed reading. i recommend it for those interested.

It is not so much how the depth and breadth of our experiences to those of others that bothers me much. It is the process of faltering and lowering the bar that the "due flow of time" sometimes goes about doing. We (I) momentarily feel this when we take time off work and pretend that one can just be without doing. To muse over whether "doing" and "being" are indeed as antithetical as it sometimes seems is itself a luxury one doesn't get to indulge in often enough.

Thanks for writing this song here, Geno. really moving!

I really liked the movie, especially the second half, and I have to commend the originality and this kind of fantasy attempt in a contemporary Tamil background - for the first time in Tamil film industry (though it wasn't flawless).

Ironically, unlike others, I didn't feel characterisation of the King and the people that awkward, given that they had lost contact with the rest of the world for hundreds of years and that they lived in famine. And some kings are known for their attitude, having lived in a world away from the common public and for their promiscuous and luxurious lifestyle. And all they are aware of is their rich past and ancestry passed through stories and paintings. I think the imagination (and the art work, except for the north indian style tower - ?shot in Rajasthan) was really rich and certainly been grounded on some historical facts (links of cholas with Telugu kingdom, and a Pandyan 'woman' showing political power and interest).

I don't feel that it is inappropriate to have made the audience relate to Srilankan Tamil analogy, even if it was truely intended. I was made to feel incomplete at the end though, and I hope there really is a sequel to this. Having read the reviews in the hub, I feel I had seen an editted version, especially it helps in UK to have a 12A certificate rather than 15 or 18, so that children could watch the movie under supervision and due to childcare problems, parents prefer to take their children to theatre.

First half wasn't particularly that impressive and I found it lacking logic, when the trio could survive a hard journey after they lost all their belongings when they escaped from the snake trap. The screenplay was weak and obviously had been developed after the film itself developed, given that there was no indication to Reema's mystic powers until she faces the Cholas!

When we watch this video link to that celebrated sequence - where Sivaji acts in the play depicting "kuttuvan" of cankam-era, we cannot help but getting confused if this is relevant in the current tamil socio-political scenario..

Mu.Ka's entire political career was built around this kind of ethnic-prode evoking "Dialogues"..

Perhaps the sense of guilt - after watching this in the recent "pArAttu vizha" (on Feb 5) - evoked due to the fact that he has now disowned the kind of ethnic pride as "anti-national", that he cried? (and perhaps not because of watching sivaji mouthing his dialogues?)

And some ill-informed persons question Kamal's "paguththarivu" - quoting from malicious sources, who spoke in the above mentioned function, talking about this incident (of Mu.Ka shedding tears).

Viduthalai, the DMK (legal wing head?) - Prior to Kamal - spoke that Mu.Ka was an "avathAram".

Kamal, in his speech, points out the irony of a "Pagutharivuvaathi" like Viduthalai,speaking about another "Pagutharivuvaathi", as an "avathAram".

Then he goes on to subtly apply pun, and said "perhaps He (M.K) is an avathAram(meaning to symbolise / personify) all the Kalaignars (artistes like him and others).."

Just because Kamal invoked "vAnchinAthan" in his speech organised by Nadigar sangam(Nov. 2008), and perhaps because he remade "A Wednesday" into a - fuzzily postioned - "Unnai pOl oruvan" - he does not lose his "pagutharivuvAthi" status.

I now am afflicted by a new conundrum:

Does procuring and sending the Hand gun/revolver to the "revolutionaries" who conspired(and later succeeded) to kill the British collector Ash, with that gun, make bhArathithAasn a terrorist too?

What shall we do with the "terror literature" then? :)

I think most of us have gone numb.
we have come to accept anything and everything in the name of 'security'.
Identity has become a second preference while the 'security' that provides the shelter for an 'identity' less existence seems to be the paramount need and this phobia, terror percolates everywhere.

Thanks for your post. The situation that you need to be able to pull the strings in the international political arena to be able to get a
"Nuremberg"-ish War crimes tribunal for prosecuting a genocidal regime is unacceptable. The fact that someone would refuse to condemn, remain muted, even celebrate - and instead talk about the genocidal victims - previous "alleged" policies, is for sure a shocker.

We live in strange times. Jews quoted from religious texts to encroach upon palestinian lands after 1920s. Eelam Tamils have lost their traditional Homeland even though historical evidence is with them. Perhaps, it is time to re-engage with the "other" models to regain their lost homeland.

- இந்தக் கவிதை, 1945 ம் ஆண்டு அறிஞர் அண்ணாவால் எழுதப்பட்டது. சற்றேறக்குறைய 60 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு எழுதிய இந்த கவிதையில் அண்ணாவின் துணிச்சல், தெளிவு, கருத்துச் செறிவு தெளிவாகத் தெரிகிறது. மனித மேம்பாடு பேணப்படுவதற்கான போராட்டமே தனது இயக்கம் என்றும் அந்த போராட்டத்தை புனிதப் போர் என்றும் அறிவித்த அண்ணா, இத்தகைய கவிதையை எழுதியிருக்கிறார்.

குறிப்பு:- யாருக்கோ அண்ணா எழுதிய இந்தக் கவிதை, 65 ஆண்டுகள் கழிந்த நிலையில், கருணாநிதிக்கு பொருத்தமாக இருப்பது மிகவும் விந்தையாக உள்ளது.

Martin Niemoller was a sympathezer of the "Democratically-elected" hitler's regime in the early years. later he was arrested for opposing the Nazi regime.

D. Selvaraj gets Sahitya Akademi award for his Tamil novel


Eminent Tamil novelist D. Selvaraj, one of the founders of the Progressive Writers’ Association has won the Sahitya Akademi Award for Tamil Literature for the year 2012.

He has been selected for his novel ‘Thol’ (Skin) portraying the lives of tannery works around Dindigul, Tamil Nadu.

One of this other outstanding novel was ‘Theneer’ (Tea) which depicts the lives of tea estate workers.

மற்றபடி - "வர்ண"ப் பிசாசுகளின் அட்டகாசம் இந்தியத் துணைக்கண்டத்தில் இப்போதைக்கு ஓயப் போவதில்லை. செருப்பால் அடித்தோ அல்லது போராட்டங்களாலோ இந்தச் சனியன்கள் ஒழியப் போவதுமில்லை.

"உன்னைய அவமானப் படுத்திக் கூனிக் குறுக வைச்சு, உன் அடையாளத்தை அழித்து ஒழித்து விட்டதா இந்து-இந்திய தேசிய சமூகம்?...சரி சரி அழப் ப்டாது, கோபப் ப்டாது, சத்தம் போடாம அடங்கி யிரு அல்லது செத்துப்போ" - என்று அருளோபதேசம் செய்கிற பயல்கள் - அசிம்சாவாதிகளாய் அவதாரம் அடுத்து மிரட்டும் தேயத்தில் - துப்பாக்கி வெடித்தே தீரும்.
