Thank God, thought Lakshmi. Thank god I was born in my family. She was listed in the top ten millionaires of the country.
When she was young she was called the black sheep of the family. All her cousins had got married to wealthy and educated men except her. Her parents had no money to get her married. She stopped going to relatives’ houses as every woman thought she might fall in love with her husband. She concentrated in her small company and after her parents’ death went to a hostel.
Money took twenty-five years to start coming regularly. All her cousins had stopped pitying her. She had forgotten their names. And then it began. Money began flowing. Her computers were better then Microsoft. Her research and development department showed the results after almost fifteen years. With sole monopoly at selling her brand at such cheap rates she took the world by storm.
She started a welfare trust in her mother’s name that gave away seventy-five percent of her profit for social welfare. Scholarships were given to girls without money to study or get married. Boys and girls were given computers as gifts for winning oratorical competitions in government schools. A toppers list was made across the country in all the government schools and provisions were made for those children for higher studies till they wanted. Old age homes were begun in various places of the country. There was nothing she did not do for social welfare. Her heart was at peace with herself. She had contributed to the world. Her parents would have been proud of her. Marriage did not matter now.
Sometimes during nights, in her dreams she had a husband with two children.
